love that ending, didn't see that coming. imagine having a mini that can spit up all over the table to simulate breath weapon attacks. ingenious. someone file a patent.
@@alexreid6224 Oh this is just the base coat, the rest of the painting is going to take 18 years, they could always pass the model off to someone else but then it can only be used for Rogues and Paladins, and the person who painted the Paladin mini will need to tragically die first.
It is also about the editing really... Not to diminish the acting, which is really good, but it is also very very well edited. It makes them sounds like they are almost talking over eachother, yet not. This is natural speech (also talking over). So many skits and most Computer games, cannot do this.
That was hilarious already, seeing spencer come in all the sudden like she was there the whole time and just being ignored was extra hilarious. When I saw her mini I almost choked though! This one just keep getting funnier until you killed me. And now I have to make a new mini. Thanks.
This was freaking great. I love how the two complained about the Tiamat mini and then once things got started all hell broke loose.... and then the baby, lost it. As an aside- as an older player from the 80s I have never used minis, they really weren't used back then much so I still don't.
I use chess pieces. Kings and Queens are usually taller enemies (unless the group is meeting with royalty), Knights are knights or guards or something like that. Pawns are common folk or goblins or other smaller things. Bishops are religous folk, rooks are other random NPCs and I have a random Wile E. Coyote that I've had since I was a kid who is always the Big Bad. Some of my players get legit excited when Wile shows up on the board.
Oh interesting, i always thought mini's were used way more back then as DND was created from a miniature wargame called 'Chainmail' so i assumed the first wave of DND players had a large amount of mini's.
@@matc1995 In the 80s lots of mini's were made of lead so were quite expensive and limited to whatever your local store had in stock. Improvisation was the key. This video was an exaggeration but also pretty accurate ! I never thought of using popcorn though 😆
@@matc1995 Back in the 80s, my father used to play with a nurse, who at some point realized that something (single-use medication vial caps, I think?) came in two sizes; just under an inch, or about an inch and a half. They were just little plastic disks, in all sorts of colours, with a bit of metal foil on one side. He started saving them for use as "minis", and he'd bring home a few dozen a day; soon it was all they used. Green ones for orcs, brown ones for goblins, big ones for dragons, all sorts of stuff. By the time I met the nurse, he had a full on 8-gallon bucket full of the things, and he let me take a couple scoops worth for my own games, which I still keep with my kit and use whenever I can't find a good mini.
When he called in Spencer I was like "oh wow, she's right bck into the skits after childbirth, that's cool.". then I saw the "mini" and couldn't stop laughing. Damnit you guys are too cute and deserve all the happiness.
Well that answers something I was wondering, if this was the reveal they had a kid. Would have been an amusing way to tell the fans. But if you are saying that, it means they told the fans already
@@AndrewJW I mean I just follow the RU-vid, and not only was the pregnancy mentioned multiple times, the child's birth, and name, were posted here as one of those images things, the community posts, from almost 2 weeks ago.
Yeah if the battle is even a little bit complex then theater of the mind just leads to confusion, back tracking, explaining the already explained multiple times, and lost time.
I won’t lie, I’ve got a budget of zero, so I just use chess pieces instead of minis, works brilliantly Edit: Also, Spencer is adorable, and the paint job is stunningly detailed
That honeslty works really well becuase you can use the pieces to sort of show the roles of the monsters. Kings and Queens are the leaders, Knights are fighters, Bishops are casters, etc.
I have never been so displeased that I can only give your comment a thumbs up as I am right now. Applause, applause, applause!(said in lady gaga voice)
Im laughing along "this is exactly what happens on every physical battlemap encounter I run". Then the baby reveal and just lost it. Excellent "delivery"!
You know, I had a sneaking suspicion that somehow you were gunna fit your newborn into this, but that ending with Spencer was hilarious. Congrats on the baby!
I love how in the most recent skits Jacob has been putting an effort into making each of the characters realistic. It's not just picking on the DM/player/rule that everyone dislikes, no strawmen. It makes them all feel so much more accurate but also just less mean, which is always nice to have on the internet.
I remember a time when somebody at my table was playing a dragonborn, and we didn't have a dragonborn minifigure, so we just gave them a small actual dragon minifigure, which looked so out-of-place compared to everyone's more humanoid models but was definitely fun.
My lord. The love Spencer has in her eyes when she looks at that baby. Unbelievable. Congratulations you too. Raise them well. Make sure they never play a wizard.
@Uxion For those who spent a fortune on theirs, especially Hero Forge customs, it would be considered sacreligious to not use them, especially for a game whose combat system “requires” minis.
@@Mariner797 Theater of the mind is fine if you're just doing a little scuffle or a one-on-one duel. It gets really convoluted and difficult to follow the more combatants you add, and the more complexity to the terrain/enemies/etc. that you add. Even just drawing a map on a single sheet of paper (or a napkin) is better than doing complex combat in TotM.
@@DJB3lfry Tell me about it. I had a lot of battles that would ordinarily have been relative easy, but nearly ended in TPKs, because nobody knew where they where.
CONGRATS ON YOUR CHILD"S BIRTH!!! I've been watching you for years and watch you pour really exceptional content into your channel as you also have a busy life. We, your fans, really appreaciate you Jacob, and CONGRATS to you too Spencer!!!
Congrats on the baby! Awesome video. We use 1x1 LEGO bricks in those situations in which theater of the mind doesn't cut it. In my view, the less realistic the better, so it doesn't get in the way of the cool stuff we can make up in our brains.
9 months to paint, a lifetime to adore. Speaking for all the fans (I realy, realy think), congratulations again, both of you, you weird, weird people. From Sweden with Love - Kami
Man Spencer’s new mini looks really nice the detail is so fine! Also AWWW SO CUTE! Congratulations Jacob and Spencer and good luck in the many rough nights ahead!
We actually use minifigs with a 3x3 base as our minis in a game I play in. They work really well size wise and can be customised and created easily! Would 100% recommend if you have a lot of lego and nobody in the party his minis
Congratulations on the baby! I’m home sick with Covid and somehow started binge watching your videos to pass the time. I REALLY want to start playing D&D now!
The struggle to have a beastmaster ranger, a druid and a shapeshifting mage in the same game is real. Everything just becomes a cow (flying cow, poisonous cow and water cow)
I just use bases, black circles with nothing in them, they work great! We just need something to identify them which is easy to find, so no problems there.
honestly inaccurate minis for enemies is pretty useful, instead of saying "the cultist there" and hoping they know which one you are talking about, you can say "the Gollum cultist" with the knowledge that they definitely know who you are talking about
This is why you give unique paint jobs to some models. For example: the cultist with the Black hood, the cultist with the blood splatters, the kitbashed one with the dope ass skeleton hand.
Love the aesthetics, I'm just concerned that some of the design choices may be a bit fragile on that mini. Be careful not to drop it unless you have some superglue handy
The best video i've seen on this channel. That was a really high bar to clear, but this video was amazing. Love it! And congrats on the awesome mini, you guys!
There was a possibility we’d fight Tiamat in a campaign I was playing in that recently ended, and I brought the pop to use as a mini in case we did, so I definitely get the feeling
