As a salaried manager let me tell you personally that I LIVE for these moments, I love to watch the soul leave someone's body when I come up and tell them in the most professional way possible that what they are requesting is idiotic. I make sure to have my employee nearby but out of sight so they can enjoy the moment as well because I know they just endured some B.S. 😂😂😂

Pro tip from one decade+ service worker to all you young bucks: the second a customer starts getting agitated, just smile and say "let me get my manager for you!". You dont get paid to deal with sociopaths, the manager is. If your manager won't do their job, tell their manager. If that manager wont make your manager do the job he is paid for, time to step.

Being both the manager and the cashier....this is so crazy accurate it had to have been pulled from real life. The best tip I can give for anyone in this position, just pretend to be on the customers side and offer the "solution" they most likely gonna end getting...but make it seem like you cut them a deal. Cuz at the end of the day person really just trying to feel special.

This 100%. If you're the agent, then if there's something you can't do, you act disappointed and equally frustrated and mimic the customer's feelings. "I know, I don't get why we can't just combine it, it's not the best system, I see what you mean." If you're the manager, then you enforce the rule but like you said, make it seem like you're cutting them a deal. "You know what... I said we can't combine them, but I can help you out. What if we order them separately, what I'll have the kitchen do is see if they put the entrees from both trays on one tray and put everything else on the other tray so they're together? I know it's not exactly combining them but it's the best I can do, how does that sound?"

I'm in the same industry.. it always irritates me when I have to repeat back exactly what my employee said. Sometimes they'll get it and be like okay well since you're the manager saying it now. But a good chunk of times they continue to be even further combative saying because I'm the manager I should be able to do XYZ and like this is a bank there are rules and policies have to follow the same ones. Then they want to speak to my managers I'm like nope you're not speaking anybody else but me regarding this manner.( Not to mention my manager does not even deal with customers lol) Feel free to switch banks. They act like we want to argue. If it were up to me I'd say yes to whatever they wanted just to leave us all alone. I assure you sir/ma'am I don't want to talk to you either and I'm not making this difficult for the sake of. I got rules to follow.

When I worked in retail I had a customer come up to me while I was working the register during a rush and ask me to help them take something out to their car I told her, "Sorry ma'am I'm working the register right now and we're really busy at the moment but I can call someone to help you." She started cussing me out, calling me unhelpful and talking about she never coming back again and asking for the manager. The manager came regurgitated the same thing I said and the woman was like, "Thank you I'm glad SOMEONE was helpful!" and gave the guy that helped her a $100 tip just to spite me

I used to find it amusing while working in retail that even after explaining the policy in detail to the customers, some customers would still treat you as if you didn't know what you were talking about. But as soon as the manager repeated exactly what you just told them, the customers would suddenly act civilized and reasonable. People are funny sometimes!

Not always sadly some of them extra extra and want to fight me asking if I'm a supervisor why can't I do XYZ. Because there are policies I have to follow lol. Then they wanna speak to my boss and I tell them that's not gonna happen. They end up trying to go around in circles saying "they have all day" as if that's gonna wear me down to put my job on the line. That's when I put them on mute and continue doing work I need to do. Eventually they'll hang up after cussing me out or I'll have to say if you like here is our correspondence address to write in your concerns. I guarantee no one is reading these letters but if it'll make them feel special and get them off the phone have at it. Can't wait to get out of this industry 😂. Trust me I don't want to talk to you and argue if I could just give you what you want to get off my phone I'd do it in a heartbeat. I'm not trying to be difficult. I got rules to keep my job.

I recently had a customer who literally yelled to get my attention. Tossed the food at me, said it was wrong, and almost REFUSED to take the FREE FOOD we made him after. He wanted a receipt more than anything and when our system couldn't get that old of an order back he walked out telling me to WATCH MY ATTITUDE. Y'all need to start paying respect to the people just trying to pay bills, we're not an enemy AND Y'ALL NOT OUR BOSSES.

As long as you're not giving them a whole attitude, some managers tend to walk out of the house wearing clothes soaked in cat pissed urging your aggressive tone on anyone you deal with. I'm all about respect, but please be kind to everyone when you walk out of that house getting to work. If not, just stay house, turn on some gentle music, cook your favorite meal, and meditate. I dont like people with attitudes, they're rude, irresponsible, and obnoxious.

This is painfully accurate. When you get customers that refuse to accept an answer from a worker but the second a manager steps in and says exactly the same thing but just adds couple of flair to the answer customers about 99% of the time just accept it and move on. Just pray you don't get the 1%. Screaming at you making up lies just so the store buckles and gives them exactly what they want just so there isn't a scene in the store. The amount of times I had tell a customer "No unfortunately we do not allow cake orders for same day. We need at least 72 hours or more depending on your cake" and they either don't care what I said or simply expect me to give them a pass and continue with their same day order is ridiculous.

My favorite is when a customer asks a question and receives an answer they don't like, they will sometimes ask the exact same question again, just rephrased. "Do you have any of the new phones in stock?". "No, I'm sorry, we're all sold out". Pause. "Oh, so you don't have any left then?". Blank stare, waiting for a different answer.
