I always trust rattle to tell me what horse games are good! If it’s not rattle approved I don’t want it!

If the dev ever takes this knowledge they gained from this game and make another that'd be amazing. The concept and their attention to detail is amazing

I think the fact that the courses are accurately measured and credit is given and permission was asked alongside with the technical functions for riding/jumping make this a great game. Sure it might be simple and lacking in some areas and the big price might not be everybody's thing, but I for the effort behind it and what the gaming seems to be I really think this is a nice game to play. I'd wait for it to be on sale, but I will definitely buy this. It reminds me of the old, simple games like Equestriad 2001 and such that had just minimal things of right about anything (sometimes even less than this game offers) but they were and are still enjoyable to play. :) My message for the dev would be: Please do not be discouraged and try remaking this game perhaps with all the knowledge gained. The idea and effort is great, with a bit of polishing and some more time and effort, you could make something grand that many people will love!

Hello Rattle! 12:56 I do show jumping (not agonistic, but I've done it for years and also see how other people ride) and we are always told not to do sharp turns with the horses or we can hurt them.. it's likely because show jumping horses aren't trained to do those movements, especially during courses (except some like sometimes there's 90° angles to do), we gotta make wide turns by starting to turn 'early' also to have the most amount of time possible to adjust ourselves before the jump Also... yeah keeping the stride isn't easy, some horses don't slow down, some others stop or change to walk/trot, I'm still working on it even if I've been doing small jumps for years😅

Can't agree with the stray sentiment sadly and no, I didn't play it for the visuals. It's either your type of game or it isn't but it definitely isn't bad but you're making it sound like it is. It's not just 'popular because it's pretty and has a cute cat' because by that logic games like Little Kitty Big City or Spirit and the Mouse should have WAY more attention but alas, they do not but they're pretty and feature a cute animal with a dedicated 'make noise' button. I get the comparisons you were trying to make, but I don't think Stray was the ideal candidate for it because it sounds like it's a game *you* don't like and not actually a known game to be bad, lied to it's players and was overpriced (coughBethesdacough)

Once again a very respectful and interesting commentary on a promising horse game. I love that you point out the good points, and though I do not have the finances to get this game, I do see the positive things it contains. Solely the concept of basing horses on real champions immerses oneself in the game. I do agree it could be more competitive. As for the animations, I find them well made and pleasing to the eyes. For the camera bit, I believe we are a lot to be disturbed easily, but hopefully the dev will hear this ! Oh, and as for the grey horses… perhaps Mylord Carthago could be included hehe

i'm confused about the stray slander when it has nothing to do with horses, it isn't even the same genre as this game. really curious about the video you'll make on it, but i'm kinda lost on why it's relevant to this one. especially because i find it's a really well done game

Bruh I remember Horse Riding Tales original price for LIFETIME VIP was 600$, but they had to cut it out because of backlash so now it is 56$. BUT STILL ITS SO CRAZY!!!!! 56 for just unlocking VIP 1-8 and only getting exclusive horses and a couple monthly chests, cosmetics, but that’s it. Mostly you got to STILL WORK SO HARD IN THE LEADERBOARDS. Even if ya pay to win, ya still pay to lose at this point.

The joke's on you Rattle.... the Tetris theme is one of the very few earworms I'll happily get stuck in my head. 40 years of it & going strong! 👌😉 Pricing is always tricky to work out when you've invested so much effort into a project, so I hope the dev sees the sticking point here & drops the price to ensure they capture more of the market that's clearly out there. You don't want to give the game away for free & your efforts _are_ worth money, but when you're in a niche area it's always better to get lots of purchases at a lower sticker price than a handful of sales at a price you think is "reasonable" for your game. With the way Steam is set up, people won't think twice about paying around $10 for a game that they'll get a few hours of playtime from... they're also a lot more forgiving of jankiness & limited options/features. But once you've passed the $20-30 mark, the level of expectation is _much_ higher & you've entered the 2-hour refund 'clock-watching' zone. Knowing how good games get buried amongst the absolute rubbish that Steam allows to proliferate, I hate seeing passion projects like this lose out because they're at the wrong price point.

I know we shouldn't judge games purely on graphics, but man this game looks rough to me. It's got that trying for realism without the budget issue a lot of small game/indies fall into - think it could have worked better with a more stylised art style (more ETG/ToRR) or at least some less drab colours/lighting. It all looks very flat/grey. I enjoyed Stray though, so I'm not sure my opinion counts! 😋 NB. I do love the screens around the arena showing your jumps live though - such a cute little touch!

I'll probably give this game a try when it hits sale. I love that it has a different mechanic than horse is a motorcycle and just space to jump. Horses have quirks like slowing down or getting excited, and riding requires work/balance. Love to see variety in games 😊 it's pricey but a very good start for for a more realistic horse game. Hope there's sequals!

Nit totally related, but you've brought up jousting more than once. I would LOVE a video on jousting games! What little exists- The niche Joust/Balloon Fight genre (Killer Queen being a personal favorite) to the newer experiences like the simulated experiences in, say, Mount and Blade and other medieval sims, and what you feel like the gameplay has been missing, both in terms of realism and possibly just in terms of fun. What do you personally want to see? And if people went more fast and loose with the concept, (like how swordfight games can be crazy inaccurate but still be fun) where do you think video game jousting would go? Rhythm game elements? Flappy Bird vibes? Ultra Jousting with a row of dozens of opponents and rail shooter controls? Or maybe more Monster Rancher style Raising Sim mechanics, where the act of jousting is incidental to the logistics of preparing for a tournament? Oh, and the Doom overlay gag at 11:05 was hilarious.

I recently found Petz horsez 2 on steam, and it must be one of the best horse games I've ever played. And it's ridiculously cheap too. I noticed older horse games are very often better than newer ones, Petz horsez has a caring system, training, an interesting story, a world you can ride around in and so much more. I admire this game and I'm hoping new horse games will take inspiration from ones like this one.

I was one of the early adopters of Pro showjumping and seeing what it has become is honestly really great to see. I bought it for $35 and I do agree that the $35 is a bit high but seeing the passion and drive behind the developer makes it all worth while. I can't wait to see what he will bring with later updates. I do hope he will bring in other gaits with later updates along with more camera stabilization; along with more optimization (It likes to max out to my graphics card which I try to avoid)options.

I’m actually curious to know why you hate Stray!! Unless you made a video on it that i missed…

Its visuals remind me of an acrade hunting game or a ps2 cabellas game and its not the worst. It seems like a simple little game to play every so often. I like the learning of the jumping course which is super intresting. Maybe if the horse felt more alive? Like the refusals and maybe stopping when it hit something at least. There are many parts that are unique to this. I like it. I know its one person and its a passion project but i hope they pour more passion into it when they can. I hope this game can and will grow it would be very unique.

It definitely should have been early access with appropriate pricing but I will be waiting for the game to be in a better place with more feature for the current price tag

Nobody will probably get this reference but it reminds me of the Olympics game (Athens 2004) for PS2 that had show jumping. Same dead lifeless AI judge and similar graphics but lowkey their game looked better??? Only difference is you can pick and name a horse here.. it even had REPLAYS!!!!. Amazing game and it wasn't even the main, this looks good too honestly.

Gosh what I would pay for a horse game that has replays. I'm remembering the first My Horse and Me on PC, played that a lot when I was young and after every round I loved watching the replay. That was 2007 (I don't know if there was an option to save replays, just watching after finishing the round)

I dont entirely agree with the point about us wanting pretty graphics. We want them to be visually appealing yes. Its tiring to look at something that looks odd and cheap. You can stylize things, make things ugly etc but they have to be pleasing to the eye. I dont like playing 'realistic' games where realism in how things look is omitted. Even adding simple shadows would make this game look so much better. Especially if the goal of the game is to make it immersive and feel like youre in actual fei championships. The camera need to move. When im on the horse i move my head and dont look where the horse is going. I have to see where im meant to be going. My message to the creator of the game would be: add shadows to the jump, add even a flat png of the crowd and maybe copy the environment that fei courses take place in. For upgrading the camera maybe try a wobble as if you were actually sotting on a horse/walking. Especially in that 1st person view. A fun but unnecessary thing to add would be swapping colors of tack, and hair/frame on the rider. Good luck with your future games!

I know it has nothing to do with this video, but could it be that the developer from Tales of Rein Ravine forgot to set her Steam Page online, or is postponing her game...? She wanted to publish the game on the 19.07. so she would have need to make the Steam Page public a month before that, what would have been yesterday. Soooo I am just a little worried? ;/

So I never heard of the game before this video so before watching this I saw the trailer. The models are decent, animation good, but everything else needs work. I feel like this game was trying to reinvent the Ride! Equestrian Simulation and failed as you need to look down at the bars instead of where you are going. The shadow is blurry. Why? The crappiest ai voices; my ipad has better ai reading. The sound effects for the hooves is lacking. A horse does not sound this hard on sand. On grass, yes. Just a lot of things that need work and aren't hard to do.

i love the "upload a custom course so others can play it" part!!! im very interested in that, to be able to build courses for your friends. but the rest of this game is not interesting to me, so i wont buy it.

I dont want to play a singleplayer horse game. I want more mmos where I can race against people and be in an open world. Why do all of these horse games assume we want to ride alone in an arena with some jumps? Why is there almost never any worldbuilding or quests? Why are the outfits so ugly? Or sometimes just bland as hell? The best game is still Star Stable and there is nothing else to compete with horse MMOs!

Unsubbed after the "Stray is popular because it has a cute cat" First of all - horse games are popular because they have horses. YOU of all people should know that Second - unlike 99% of horse games, Stray actually has a story. And a good one. THIS is why it is popular. If you choose to like a specific genre games in which 99% are cashgrabs, don't make it everyone else's problem. Third - unlike MOST horsegames, Stray has gameplay beyond "hold W to run, press SPACE to jump". If you choose to sh*t on a game, maybe actually play it before yapping, will you?

I think everyone is too forgiving of AI. 'It was made by a solo dev' you know what a solo dev can do WITHOUT using a software that harms other people? Record the voices themself. Seriously. They clearly do not care about the aesthetic of this game one bit, so why did they need to use something like that? We don't forgive visual artists who use AI because they should know better. We don't forgive voice actors who use image generation because they should know better. Both things are an insult between creatives. Well, a game dev IS a creative. A game dev should know better. This game dev chose the insult over speaking a few lines of dialogue themself. And frankly, I think the dev could have done a better job with a $20 mic and an iota of passion than those flat, boring generative voices did. You know what? I'LL do the voices for goddamn free if the dev is willing to stop using this stupid software and show other creatives an ounce of respect. There are so many people willing to work for nothing, kids who just want experience on the voice acting forums I frequent. If you're not willing to pay a fellow creative under any circumstance, then at least put a human's name on something. There were so many options that weren't AI. They just didn't bother.
