I haven’t read the light novels this anime is based on, but from the information I’ve gleaned from the novels Yuuri and Wolfram do become a romantic couple. And the series creator confirmed that they have a “chaste engagement”. So basically, Yuuri hasn’t ended the engagement because they get together for realsies.

I think that the light novels do a way better job at explaining what’s going on here. Essentially, in the beginning, Wolfram didn’t like Yuuri in a romantic sense. Both he and Yuuri were attracted to each other on a superficial level, but that was that. Conrart recognised that this superficial attraction existed, and supported this relationship because Yuuri was going through problems with accepting his own homosexuality, and this was a good opportunity for him. He supported these two 100%. The rest kind of didn’t care and just let them go on as they were. Meanwhile, Wolfram was seeing all of this as an obligation that he didn’t particularly mind, and breaking the engagement would reflect very poorly on him, but as time went on, they became closer, and Wolfram recognised his feelings while they were in Shimaron, just as the first of the boxes was opened. Things were very difficult for Wolfram around this point, because he felt these strong, genuine feelings for Yuuri, and he was made to feel worthless and insecure every time Yuuri pushed him away for reasons he couldn’t understand, and retaliates in an insecure manner every time he’s made to feel this way. Yuuri’s own feelings were slowly coming to the fore at this point, but seeing as his parents in the light novels would have disowned him if they had ever found out that he was gay (and he has a lot of anxiety over this), he finds this incredibly hard to admit and recoils from Wolfram when he’s at risk of being found out. Things keep going like this for some time, Yuuri’s feelings becoming just as strong as Wolfram’s, eventually culminating in Yuuri’s confession where he admits that he doesn’t have the strength to pretend that he doesn’t feel like this anymore. Essentially, both spend a lot of time hurting each other until the moment that Yuuri comes out, admitting who he is, and that he likes Wolfram. The moment Wolfram hears this confession, he’s reassured. He doesn’t have to feel insecure anymore. He’s not going to lose the only person he’s ever loved, and likely the only person he ever _will_ love. From that moment on, their relationship is secure, Wolfram stops retaliating and accusing Yuuri of cheating, and Yuuri stops giving Wolfram reason to feel insecure. At this moment, Yuuri considers them as good as married. The anime really did this series dirty.

@@vladimircain Unfortunately, yes, they would have. They’ve all got an inkling that Yuuri might be gay, but they’re dealing with it in their own ways. Ever since they were born, Shouma has spent a significant amount of time essentially doing things to “man his sons up” so that they won’t turn out gay. It was one of the reasons he used to object to Yuuri wearing dresses. He’s currently pretending that nothing is happening, but has been known to fly into a rage when it’s suggested that Yuuri might be gay. Miko correctly guessed that he might be gay and told him that it wasn’t the end of the world, but ultimately couldn’t cope and quickly asked him if he wanted conversion therapy, nearly making him cry. Shouri is the only one who looked at Yuuri in a positive light. He was so worried about the things that Yuuri might face that he chose to become the governor of Tokyo for the sake of legalising same sex marriage so that his little brother could live in a world that was safe for them. He lives in Saitama, so he couldn’t become the governor of Tokyo unless he moved and jumped through more than a few hurdles, but his reasoning is that it’s worth it because, when Tokyo does something, the rest of Japan eventually tends to follow. There’s a scrapped ending for the series set at some point in the future where Yuuri is living without his parents in his lives, presumably because he came out so that he could be with Wolfram. He’s nearly had panic attacks from the mere thought of other gay people being found out, and at one point, in a short story, he runs away from a blind panic when he hears about the experiences of the boy from the baseball team that he punched the coach over. You can read the translated novels, read all of the short, canonical stories, and listen to all of the Drama CDs with translated scripts for free at the link below, by the way. @@vladimircain Much of these pieces of backstory happen in the short, canonical stories, so it’s fascinating to go back and read them, knowing that this is what Yuuri’s been going through, and what he’s been feeling, and then seeing them evolving over time from this sad, tortured, panicked young man with massive self-esteem issues who can’t even be himself in his own home, to those little romantic stories between him and Wolfram, with whom he can finally be honest with himself. It’s lovely to see, really.

For me Wolfram being jealous put a huge smile on my face it was entertaining and funny also Yuuri doesn’t stop it cause it’s more of him being a tsundere than him actually being uncomfortable he does end up falling for wolfram so in my opinion I don’t really agree with your criticisms lol
