Where Can I Find Gold Silver and Copper in Massachusetts? 

Prospector Jess I live right near Dracut Nickel mine, would there be a good area to prospect gold here?

I grew up in Sutton and there was silver load mine on a private farm. The farm is named after it "Silver mine farm". It wasn't just a name because I knew a person who witnessed the closing of a mine. The entrance was bull dozed over. That said, there has been gold found in Douglas State Forest in Mass. I have yet to find any there. I just started testing myself.

@@brianwalk6868 how about couch brook in Bernardston mass...i grew up in greenfield and always heard storys about this brook but was never verified...was just wondering if you ever heard anything on that area/brook (?).

Borders Franklin by my house, I've worked the piles for years and they definitely were worth my effort. Tracked the vein a few miles with several outcrops . No free mill gold its all refractory ore .

Bernardston, Savoy, Charlemont, Colrain, Florida, you will find gold. Just takes a lot of digging around to figure out the rivers and how it got spread out.

Yeah. You are getting close! Westfield river from the Chester wildlife reserve down towards Huntington is about the best I have found in that area. Gotta hike for it. A solid day of panning and bringing concentrates home to finish up yields 2 grams on a really good trip. I can usually do better driving an hour north of there in certain streams above Readsboro Vermont. Pay the $50 for a state sluice permit. In the right place, the fee will easily pay for itself in a couple hours. Silver is plentiful. There is gold in Massachusetts, but none that I have found has been easy to get to! Google maps south of Chesterfield Gorge and on the north side of Littleville Lake. Paystreaks in gravel of inside bends. Check the low pressure zones of obstructing rocks in swift areas at low water level in late summer. An occasional small picker or fat flake. I have never found anything chunky for gold in this area. Someday when I have the time, I would love to scavenger hunt for the remnants of the lode source. Peru maybe? Pack a lunch and enjoy the wilderness. Good luck!

@@chrisvaughn4399 my family's farm house has been in central mass for 200+ years with a stream that runs through the woods with big boulders around it. Do you think there would be gold in there? I always thought there would be somewhere on the property.

@@untrainedmechanic Tributaries on the eastern slopes of the Berkshires draining in to the Deerfield River are your best bet. The closer you are to the Vermont border, the more color you will find in your pan. Other than that specific region, a day in the solitude of wilderness is the true reward, any speck of gold to be found is icing on the nature cake. Mill River has its share of decent areas of exposed bedrock and large gravels if you are in shape for a thorny hike upstream from Williamsburg. Rice Brook and Mill Brook north of Charelemont seem to have potential as well. Rugged terrain though. Not an easy hike. A rare picker or two is about all that can be expected. Flood gold is better than no gold! The streams around Somerset Vermont late in the summer are my favored (somewhat) local panning areas. Many interesting finds in the pan. Pickers are more common.. Silver and some assorted gemstones. Definitely worth the drive. Have not gone up to Jamaica VT to try that area yet, but.. I have heard good things.
