they say it's all part of global warming but the more this weather goes on the more i'm convinced of that cloud seeding having a mjor impact on our seasons. The sun literally can't get through those clouds. I wish they would just let nature do it's thing, rather than trying to contriol it.

I’m Canada a lot of people living in permanent caravans put straw bales under their trailers around the perimeter and then putting wood in front of it so it looks nice. It keeps the cold air from blowing under the caravan and stealing the heat. Essentially installing the bottom of the caravan.

A trick to measure gas liquid level in the cylinder: boil a kettle and pour slowly down the side of the cylinder until you hear the gas sizzle. Make sure you have a black marker in your back pocket, now place your palm on the cylinder near the top and work downward until half your hand feels cold, the gas level is between the warm and cold feeling in your hand, mark with marker. I increase accuracy by then using two fingers pressed against the cylinder rather than my whole palm. One finger will be warm, the other cold, mark between the fingers, boom!

Electric blanket here, it's lush! However vans suffer with humidity especially in bedrooms from breath exhaust. My bedroom literally runs wet (down walls, on top of duvet) when the Mrs is here and blanket on when it's 5c or less over night. Grab a 12L dehumidifier (which leave on every other night), best purchase all winter, you won't regret it, can also be used to dry washing! Diesel heaters are generally banned on site, you may get thrown off due to fire risks.

There’s some nice onesies about - when we had our caravan a lady who had 2 Dalmatian dogs had a white one with spots she wore to walk her dogs so they all matched . Luckily they don’t do them to match afghan hounds or folk might have thought they’d seen a yeti 😂

I also installed smart heating in order to finely control the van room temperatures and provide a way to control on/off and temperature settings when not at the van via phone app . The basic Drayton package (was around £100 last year) does the job nicely, providing a smart digital mobile thermostat and the control unit which can be connected to an LPG boiler (do you have a boiler, if not prepare for the cold!).

Thanks Ivan, apparently the strange weather that is happening over the last three years is a normal occasional cycle of events caused the El neno (spelled wrong) which starts over the Pacific and normally lasts for about two years (actually I think that it's been going on for four years. Those Schallen oil heaters are pretty good, dry heat and cheap to run. Take care and all the best. Stevie

Hello from New Jersey, USA. We have your summer here and would gladly give it to you. 😅 It's been very hot and extremely humid here for quite some time with no end in sight. As much as I like shorts and t-shirts, my wife and I prefer bundling ourselves up in winter. "Warm yourself and not the caravan." is definitely the right way to go. We keep our house fairly cool in the winter and truly enjoy layering up while watching tv. BTW best of luck with your new job!

Speaking from the NE in the U.S. in the winter months, I always wear a soft extra large hooded sweatshirt to bed. It keeps my body heat from being lost from the top of my head….I tried wearing a hat but it kept falling off. I also wear bed socks and I’m snug as a bug in a rug….at below freezing temperatures

Good luck with the winter Ivan, I lived in a static for a couple of years while doing a barn conversion and although we were warm enough in bed the condensation in the bed room was horrendous, the large propane bottles we went through was quite alarming in the winter months, one thing I would suggest is you get the underside sprayed with foam insulation it will make a big difference.good luck with it, Best regards Ron H.

Hi Ivan, I fitted a Diesel heater in my big shed to help dry our washing during the winter months! It was a 5kw Chinese one. When it worked it was epic! But when they go wrong , and they sooner or later will , it was a right pain in the bum to sort out! But as I`ve worked in Air conditioning all my life, I would always have a small Inverter split air conditioning system installed! Keep you warm in the winter and cool in the summer! And it will filter the air and help any allergy sufferers with special air filters! I have three in my house and I only ever use them in the winter months as my house is always cold even in the summer, due to very very thick stone walls!. The only draw back is that they ain`t cheap. And you cannot fit them yourself! Also, if your going to decorate your caravan, look at the thermal wall paper. I used it in a room that had an outside wall and it was a game changer! My better half loves her electric blankets and over blankets, but another game changer was when i bought a padded boiler suit. lol. At the end of the day when you are all showered and fed, just pop your boiler suit on and its warm and very comfy, and best of all if you move from one room to another or pop outside to the car, you stay warm! I know it sounds stupid, but take it from a man who knows, they are great! Not to mention the good old fashioned hot water bottles! Keep up the good work, Shaun, from very very wet North Wales.

Using the correct fuel, basic maintenance suggestions, and strictly sticking to the correct startup and shutdown procedures for diesel heaters should leave you having very little or no problems with them, and they are very simple to work on, with spare parts plentiful and inexpensive. I suspect the heaters at 200+, seen by Ivan, are German made Webasto or similar models.

a diesel heater with all the kit is what you would need, heater, tank, pump and pipes etc, costs around £100. you also need a 12v power supply which is used mostly for warming up the glow plug, about £25, and a carbon monoxide detector. Check if you have a local stockist of kerosine, as its cheaper, hotter and cleaner, i get around 5-6 hours of heat per litre on a low setting . I make my own bio-diesel so very cheap for me but also very messy job. good luck with everything watch loads of diesel heater vids if you take this path.

Same here Ivan, I'm in & out today doing odd jobs but it keeps starting to rain. You can actually buy an electric blanket that goes on top of your duvet my dad had one, it's an over blanket I think, we've had our heating on a few times this week also been very nippy. Bathroom looks nice, well done Ginny😊 A lot of folk are buying those electric airers now for drying stuff on, then you cover it with the cover that comes with it. Thermal underwear especially vests & t shirts will help too, my husband was a security officer & wore those in the winter. Thanks for the update Ivan interesting...

I am in my my mid 80’s and I tend to feel the cold far more than my wife. We have two large Woolen patchwork blankets which my wife knitted from old rolls of wool she had. They are large enough to fold in two and I often sit with one of them over me and we have central heating. We don’t have heating on at night if it gets really cold I spread one of these blankets on top of the duvet, they are wide enough to fit in double bed and folded over for a single bed.

Hi, I like your channel, refreshing to see such honest down to earth content, presented without hype and false enthusiasm as on other channels. We stay in a freezing cold cottage in the country and both bought big fluffy hoodies and thermal leggings. A heated throw is good too. The most important thing is to make sure that your pipes don't freeze. If the weather does get warmer I would like to see an episode on how to cope with the heat as I find that much more difficult to deal with than the cold. My bedroom is a dormer and gets so hot that I have slept downstairs. Also does the fridge in the caravan use a lot of power in very hot weather?

I hear you about the lights thing. I keep putting the lights on and normally we wouldn't need them at this time of year. It's messing with my energy bill because I've had to dry stuff in the dryer which is only supposed to be for emergencies because the drizzle and rain keeps coming. I also agree those laws need another look.

They can just take the chill off on a low setting or turn them right up and you'll be really toasty!
