The SR-71 cruised at 85,000 feet in the 1960s. So it's safe to assume the successor would cruise at least there but probably higher. I also think he should be making more random course changes to throw off the missiles

Actually, SR71 pilots dropped altitude on purpose then burned afterburners into a climb to easily outrun missiles from SAMS during Cold War and later... So sorry guys, but SR72 is gold if you can force the missiles to change directions they can't keep pace. It's easier if your life survival is necessary.

I have a theory about the initial blasts not working on the plane is because of the speed and force. The explosion was less force than the movement of the SR72 moving away. It may be the same theory of soapy bubbles exploding. Just a thought. Great.

I personally think the SR-72 would've been much better off higher, like at 100k feet, even if it meant dropping down to mach 4 or something. Part of what made the SR-71 so hard to intercept was it's cruising alt/speed of 85k feet and mach 3.2, with .2 mach in reserve so it could speed up when shot at. SOP when a missile was fired at an SR-71 was for it to just increase speed to mach 3.35, which killed the missiles firing solution and made it burn all it's energy. So if the SR-72 was flying at, say, 100k feet and mach 4, then entered a shallow banking dive to increase speed and make the missile turn if it got shot at, i think it would actually be much harder to hit. Still an interesting video!

@@skatman3278 It certainly has enough fuel, but also consider that a peak speed of Mach 8 against a Mach 3 target is like hitting a Mach 1.5 target with an AMRAAM (~M4). Doesn’t sound too far out. A 1974 BAC F53 EEL armed with two "Instant sunshine" Red Tops would intercept an SR72. The story around is that in 1974 an EEL "BOUNCED" the SR71 in the mid Atlantic as it was setting the record crossing. The SR71 had to be refueled mid way and the RAF used the opportunity to intercept it by the EEL supplied by Victors. The BAC EEL was powered by 2 Avon 302 r's that developed over 40,000 lbs of thrust in a frame weighing less than 25,000 lbs and was capable of mach 3 in short burst although no one ever found out how fast they could fly as the engines would run out of fuel before the EEL stopped accelerating They are still far quicker than the present day F35's and from mach 0.9 are doing mach 1.8 before an F35 has dragged itself to mach 1.4. Limited fuel and burning nose cones were the only vices the EEL had but it could climb over 15,000 ft in a 5 G turn @ 450 knots without loosing speed and Brian Carrol took his one up to 87,300 ft where the only limiting factor was the Pilot.

What I think is going on with the damage model is probably that it is working exactly as it should. Basically an explosion will expand at about the speed of sound, or a bit faster, but that creates a problem when you're trying to destroy something that flies away at hypersonic speeds. Because of this a missile needs to explode ahead of a hypersonic target to catch it in the explosion. That would explain why the missiles that exploded from behind or from the side did no damage but the missile that exploded in front of it set the plane on fire. That or the damage model of the plane isn't working at all and the missile killed the pilot because it was just in front of it.

First- GR, that looks more like the Darkstar from Top Gun Maverick, which is no doub't inspired from the SR-72 Project, but LOL they didn't call this one the Darkstar even thoguh looking a that cockpit and windows, thats what it is the thing you said about that model of the sr 72 engines blowing up- is that because this is a darkstar,which i assume the mod maker set to blow up at mach 10.2 in line with the movie source material? because in the real world, things like the blackbird - just had compressor inlet temp limits, not speed limits...and the engines don't "blow up" if you hit that point, lol Surprised GR said no missile is as fast as this- the R 37 hypersonics carried by the Foxhounds and the modern flankers(i dont know if any of your flanker drivers used it ) can move in the same speed regime Anyway, thank you GR, your supersonic vids are my abosolute favorite! Curious what would happen if they were all trying to intercept a mach 3 or whatnot plane at 100,000k ,or 120,000 k...altitude I LOVED the bonus rounds with the blackbirds and foxhounds(lol, no foxbats eh? :P ) LOl, the R -37 would have gotten a Mach 6 boost on top of a mach 3 foxhound, and would have put those speed boosted amraams to shame :P

It's actually the opposite; plasma disrupts electromagnetic waves, dramatically reducing the size the quality of a potential radar return. There was actually a whole field of research on "plasma stealth" because of this interaction. Although to my knowledge the research didn't produce any viable systems.
@Utubesuperstar
@Utubesuperstar 11 месяцев назад
@@92HazelMocha It depends on the radar band you are both technically correct, however in real life plasma stealth isn't really a thing, any modern radar band is going to be able to lock and pick up an aircraft with the plasma field

@grimreapers Realistically the F-16 is not as fast as the Raptor, but you did mod the game so that makes sense, Raptor has a top speed of Mach 2.2 with Afterburners, the F-16 only hits 1.6 with Afterburners (incidentally the Raptor has a cruising speed of Mach 1.5 or 1.6 without afterburning But the reason planes like the F-15 and F-14 are so fast (with the F-14 and F-15 actually being faster in a straight line then even the Raptor) is because they not only have twin engines like the Raptor does, BUT the F-14 and 15 can suck in larger amounts of air in any given moment compared to the Raptor, the reason for this is because the air intakes on the Raptor are much smaller compared to the F-14 and F-15 who have much larger air intakes, but we have to keep in mind that the reason the Raptor doesn't have larger air intakes is because having larger air intakes would compromise it's Stealth, and since Stealth is the name of the game of modern air fighting, speed has been put slightly into the back seat of things. THAT said, here is a top speed comparison F-14: The F-14A is powered by twin Pratt & Whitney TF30-P-414A engines while the F-14B is powered by two General Electrics F110-GE-400 engines. These engines combined with the big air intakes on the F-14A and B allow this plane to fly at a top speed of Mach 2.34 with Afterburners. F-15: The F-15E is powered by twin Pratt & Whitney F100-PW-220 or 229, which combined with the equally large air intakes (the intakes of which are essentially as large if not larger then the ones on the F-14A and B models) allows this plane to BLITZ through the air at Mach 2.5, it is single handedly the fastest of these three planes, however like the F-14s it has to use Afterburners to achieve this speed, which means just like the F-14s this plane is a FUEL guzzler when traveling faster then sound, but...... F-22: Pratt & Whitney F119-PW-100 turbofan engines, capable of Super Cruising at Mach 1.5 (no afterburner needed), highly fuel efficient because of this super cruising trait, however it's air intakes being small restricts its top speed because it can't pull in as much air in any given moment compared to the F-14 and F-15. So while it is indeed slower then the other two the obvious advantages however are its Super Cruise (which neither the F-14 or F-15 have) and it has massive stealth capabilities and is almost just as fast. But in todays world where speed is not the biggest, most important thing, this doesn't matter, the F-14s and the F-15s would get SMOKED by the Raptor because of it's insane stealth, it's super maneuverability and not to mention it's superior payload. Man Pratt & Whitney have a monopoly here.....:D Sorry for the info dump! Thought you might like this info :3

With 40nm offset only the S-400 could hit it with it's monstrous long-range missile. I think basic setup should include at least some offset like 10nm. It's unrealistic that the target would be flying exactly over the Sam.

SR-71 was tracked by Soviet radars as far as 480km. That enough warning time for MiG-25s to scramble for a mission kill, and MiG-31s to position into intercept firing solution.

Can you please update the F-35 to be more in line with what we know about the F-35 now? It's far more maneuverable, more stealthy (specifically from the front), and far more powerful in terms of radar than what the model is now. Also, the new AIM 120D upgrade is software only to get it to be on par with the PL-15. Your last video implied that there's only a couple hundred upgraded 120's. If it's software only, why would you not update the software on every missile before it's loaded onto a plane.
