Another well done segment Fred. I've driven a huge variety of manual transmissions - including a 1968 911. I also wouldn't say I'm all that good at heal and toe.

Hi Fred, Nicely done (especially for a guy on vacation). The right tool for the right job is well put. I LOVE a stick shift, but with 670 HP Z06, or any car with huge power, if you're going to drive it at the limit, reducing the variables makes sense, whether that be, bumping the rev limiter, grinding the gears or money shifting. Regular automatics (torque converter) have come a long way, but there's a disconnect that I miss coming from a stick. The DCT seems to be my compromise. Lightning fast performance when you need it, normal automatic driving when you don't, and full control. Did you neglect CVTs on purpose?? (which would be understandable : )

Hi Fred, great video and hope you’re doing well! I love the thrill of driving my manual GS, and it will be a sad day for me if I decide to give it up when the Z06 eventually comes. In my mind, you can’t stop progress and the DCT transmissions are simply amazing. I really am looking forward to how this transmission will change the driving experience for me. All my “fun” cars have always been manuals, so I think hope to have a manual car of some sort in the future if I pass along the GS. BTW, not sure if the “Hi Lorenzo” was for me or someone else, but great to be back and enjoying your vids!

Hi Lorenzo! The sign was for you! :) Agreed, on all points. Though I love my manual, I think the DCT's these days are getting really good, and will be an ok tradeoff. Plus, like you I'm already thinking of what other second fun car I could have with the Z to still get my manual fix. TBH, I'm considering an early Gen Boxster as a project car. Grew up with my parents having one, and it was just fantastic. Nice to hear from you man! -Fred

Fred, I was on vacation last Friday, so I did not see your video. My son has a 20+ year old Toyota pick-up and it is still running strong. The last time I drove a manual it was 3 on the tree, so I would be a disaster driving a manual high performance car. I do know that at Road Atlanta I was happy that I could focus, with both hands on the wheel, optimizing that C5R-427 monster. Just one comment comparing auto to manual, which came from a Panoz race car driver. He said 90% of the drivers who have manuals loose time on the track because they do not know how to optimize the car. Sully

Awww Yeah... It's Fredday Again...ha ha ha! GM Fred, Another extremely well done video and content! I 100% agree with you about the right tool for the right job mentality. Manual's are more connected or visceral feeling. To date my 92 Isuzu truck, 95 Jeep Wrangler, 96 Ram, 03 Mustang GT, 03 Civic, 06 Tacoma Limited, and current 87 Porsche 911 & 74 Civic were/are, all manual's. I even had an old Chevy C10 3 on the tree too! Although, I really enjoy driving stick, it does have it's place. I really don't think a manual would benefit the C8 Corvette's in anyway other than less transmission problems/issues than the current DCTs are experiencing! Anyway, did I see a decal mod 🏔️ added to your new TRD Pro above the Tacoma Badging? Have a great weekend! -Shane

I was 684 for the Z06 at Ciocca when they announced the results of that crazy sign-up day. When they required more money I exited. I am 228 at MacMulkin. Not sure when or if that day will come when I drive one, time will tell.

Hope you’re enjoying the vacation! I would like a Manual in certain vehicles, but those days are behind me. My only manual was my 1975 Trans Am. The negatives I encountered scared me to death! Being on a hill with a car behind me on my bumper and parked on a hill between other vehicles. My wife can drive a stick as her car she was driving in 1981 was a VW Bug. But after we got married and got to go shopping for cars, she DEMANDED THAT THERE WOULD BE NO MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS! Did you hear that? lol So Automatics Rule! No third pedals. Be safe in your travels. Doug

Manual is for being more at one with the car for the driving "experience". I remember the long past early days of aftermarket modified automatic transmissions for serious hot rodders, street racers and drag racers...the B&M Hyrdro for GM cars and the Art Carr torqueflite for Mopars. These were hard shifting, manual shifted transmissions that had no negative stigma but the opposite for being recognized as being faster shifts not requiring the advanced skill of a really fast manual shifting driver. I have driven stick shifts for years on transportation cars and don't miss them in more recent years. I hear all these unhappy people complaining about various cars without stick shifts yet small percentages of them buy stick shifts when they are an option. How many Lamborghinis, Ferraris, McLarens can you get with a manual? At least Porsche has tried to make everyone happy unless you want that big horsepower model. I say there are much bigger problems ahead...like losing that V12, V8, V6...then finally ALL and any ICE. Sorry...no manuals on the electrics. Enjoy the high cost of electricity when half the population has these cars. And get used to not being able to stop for less than 10 minutes to get enough fuel to get you another 250 miles, particularly when you are in a hurry. Count on a long lunch or dinner...at best.

Nicely done video! My take is that if you are driving your car on the street ATs are the way to go - MTs are little fun and do wear out faster than an AT. On the track, again ATs are the way to go. Why? With MT you're not as good at learning the course regarding all the other things required to engage with your car i.e. steering, braking entering and exiting tight corners etc. MTs take away from your ability to really learning and getting great at all the more important aspects of driving. Finally, I think it is just a mindset. If you love shifting and clutching an MT at the expense of really learning and engaging all the other important aspects of the total driving experience than a MT is right for you. If you want to engage with the other important aspects of driving at the limits of cars engineering dynamics than an AT is right for you.

I am only here to say that the C7 Corvette is more beautiful than the C8.

The really big attraction is mid engine...where the Corvette should have been years ago.

Looks are pretty subjective IMO, but I will say that *personally* I agree with you. That may change when I get my Z06 and can see it more in person, but I love the lines of my C7 GS and the Admiral Blue paint. Do you have a C7? -Fred

@@FredsFullThrottle What I don't like about the C8 is the view in profile. The rear quarter panel appears too large, making the overall design ungainly. Also not a fan of the busy rear end. I have the antithesis of a sporty-looking vehicle: a Honda Element. I know many if not most hate the way it looks, but I love my toaster on wheels.
