I took magnesium glycinate through my second pregnancy because with my first pregnancy I had terrible heart palpitations and tons of Braxton Hicks contractions. The magnesium glycinate made it so I had zero palpitations and very few contractions. I really feel like it helped me not go into premature labor again. The best.
Did it also help with constipation? I’m looking for magnesium supplement, but not only helps aid in digestion, but also helps to go to sleep. I don’t want to have to take two different magnesium supplements for this. As I think it is dangerous to take too much magnesium.
I first bought magnesium citrate many years ago as I used to get leg cramps at night after running. Initially it made me go to the loo about an hour after taking it, but it completely cured the leg cramps. After a few months I think my gut must have got used to it and no more running to the loo. Have been taking it ever since - no effect on bowels, but no more cramps. I think magnesium citrate has fairly high bioavailability. It is extremely soluble compared to the inorganic salts, and remains soluble at a wide range of pH. The magnesium ions are absorbed into the small intestine - there are many studies that show this. It is also much cheaper than the chelated versions.
Running to the loo? 😂 Same as the comments above, I still haven't found a good magnesium to take, citrate makes me have immediate waterery bowel movement
I also wonder where the "bowel movement" issue from using citric version stems from. I have never had this issue and I'm taking 1000mg capsules once or twice a day. I speculate it's an allergic/immune reaction to overdosing or perhaps a gut flora issue in certain individuals. I noticed Thomas Delauer said the same thing about citric magnesium. I also speculate, that it might be a question about conflict of interest(less dollars to be made on citric version...why does hospitals use it, if it's so bad/inefficient?? 😉)
I have a spinal injury my whole life I'm now 45 and I used to struggle having a BM. I would go maybe once a week. I've been taking magnesium citrate capsules for about 6 weeks and I've had a BM everyday since it's saved my life i wish I'd tried it years ago.
Wow, this is great news. Can you send me an email mike (at) highintensityhealth.com want to send you a sample to see what you notice of something we're working on

@@debbieklose8776 yes you can take them in conjunction. Some brands even sell them mixed. I’m taking L-Threonate at night and sometimes Glycinate AM. I take mine at 9pm 30 mins before bed at 9.30. My last meal is at 6pm.
I love all types of magnsium but threonate was horrible for me... constant trobbing pain in the spine, irritability and the worst nightmares a human can have. Maybe im too low or too high mag in the brain already. Many people on reddit reports withdraw side effects also.
After years of suffering from chronic shoulder and neck tightness, I saw a video of someone recommending magnesium after being hospitalized with the same symptoms I had. It worked, relaxing my neck and shoulder muscles, within an hour of taking simple supplement. I take Wal-Mart brand Magnesium and Zinc daily. It's been a game changer. I interested in the other versions recommended herein.
Interesting video. As a hairdresser who suffers from carpal tunnel syndrome, Magnesium Malate is the difference between getting through a days work & being able to sleep without pain at night.
Back before I read up on magnesium I bought a bottle of magnesium citrate because it was sold as “High Absorption”. I read more about magnesium after we realized it was giving us the runs. Some supplement companies are clueless.
As a Pharmacology addict, and someone studying to go back into Pharmacy again, this is really informed and helpful. I already know a lot of this stuff, but it helped nicely to build onto what I know. Good video, I'll have to check out some others.
I’ve been taking magnesium oxide for decades. As far as supplements, it’s the one that they sell in all of the stores I have learned that only 4% of it is absorbed by body. I am looking for a magnesium supplement that not only helps me fall asleep, stay asleep, but alsoaids in healthy digestion. Do I have to buy two different forms of magnesium to achieve this result? I’m afraid if I take magnesium Glycinate and Mag citrate, I’d be consuming too much magnesium.
Have had my husband on magnesium threonate for a little over a week and already can see a difference. Much calmer. Not complaining about other drivers so much and his irritability is way down. For myself I feel more focused and I think less fatigued. We had been taking magnesium citrate for awhile but threonate makes a big difference.
What do you mean when you say your husband takes triple magnesium ? I’m looking to start magnesium l-threonate to help with feeling calm. Very interested.🙏🏼 hope you’re doing well
Personally, I’ve noticed more restful sleep, vivid dreams, and lucid dream induction taking a small amount of magnesium citrate. I did use several different L-threonate products. As far as working memory and day-to-day mental acuity it worked very well. I’m just stumped as to why citrate has been working better for me in the sleep realm. Might just be unique to me but I’d be super interested if anyone else has experienced this.
Same experience with Magnesium Citrate 200 mg before going to bed. I thought it was because vitamin B12 was accumulated in the body from the multivitamin pill I take every morning.
Yeah, I find magnesium glycinate and magnesium threonate to be good after dinner / before bed and beneficial for sleep. Whereas I take magnesium threonate in the mornings because it seems to enhance cognition but doesn't make me sleepy.

Hey Mike, I've been watching your channel for a number of years. I'm a fan :-). I don't know why you would leave out magnesium taurate. Taurine is so good for the heart as is magnesium. Standard process and Premier Research labs, two excellent companies use magnesium lactate. Life Extension which is also an excellent supplement company often uses magnesium oxide in their formulations.
That's very interesting. I've read so many literature and testimonials, that Magnesium Citrate is one of the most bio available forms of magnesium within the body. Yet it's contradictory to your video.
I tried taking magnesium threonate at bedtime like I had been doing with magnesium glycinate and my dreams were so vivid that I would awaken during the night. So, now I supplement with the Mg threonate in the mornings when I use it. I alternate between magnesium threonate, glycinate and orotate. I also have the citrate around and Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) is great for a 20 minute hot soak now and then. I may try the magnesium taurate after a little more research.
can you take L-Threonate after a workout with protein shake to chillax your muscles ? I usually take Glycinate but wanting to take L-Threonate for memory and brain power. should i take L-Threonate in the morning and Glycinate in the evening after a workout ?
I was surprised you didn't cover transdermal magnesium chloride application (Zechstein origin source) which is by far the strongest magnesium therapy I have ever used.
very good presentation, thanks Mike - not many delve into WHEN to take l-threonate (and why), along with thinking about which chelating agent (and why) - so thanks
Interesting info but how about transdermal? Apparently (meaning I've seen a paper but cant be bothered to look for a link) you can replenish deficiencies transdermally faster than orally and combining both is even better. Epsom salt bath or magnesium flakes or magnesium oil spray... or daily baths in a sea... Cheaper as well. Personally big fan of magnesium oil spray - provides relief in minutes.
Thank you for this very informative and comprehensive video. Interestingly, I am able to keep my migraines at bay with citrate, whereas I don't have the same result with the others. It would be interesting to find out why, as it seems to contradict your explanations.
I've never seen a magnesium with this many forms of magnesium in one capsule. Sounds too good to be true. I keep pursuing third party certificate of analysis. I look for the day when all supplements will provide this because it's like the wild west out there and I won't take any supplement that hasn't have third party COA
Cool. I’ve been using mag citrate after testing low on mag, have noticed loose stools, and I never had constipation before hand. So I grabbed your product and see how it goes!

I have been taking for a while about 100-300 mg of magnesium bisglycinate plus 48mg of L-threonate (from one capsule of magtein in which 3, has 2000mg of magtein, so 144mg of total magnesium) per day. Due to the high cost of L-threonate, do you think this could be a good strategy to get the benefits of different forms? Also, there is some difference between bisglycinate and glycinate, or is just about name. Thanks
congratulations for the video! regarding magnesium threonate, how many hours after meals is it recommended to take it to avoid absorbing metals from food
I take 250mg malat and 100mg Glycinat 3 times a day. If I take a lower dosage I get headake. The large dosage of D3 and B3 use up alot of magnesium. I think its a good sign that the vitamin works.
I’m skeptical about the unique benefits of the various magnesium formulas. Before any of these formulas existed, how did magnesium in our diet achieve the same benefits of all these formulas?
Hmm interesting for sure . I am currently taking magnesium glycinate and am curious if I can add the magnesium threanate as well. The glycinate does help calm me and has seemingly helped reduce leg jitters and nerve twitching at night. I am challenged with insomnia and I was under the understanding that the threnate may help with sleep. The video states to take it on a empty stomach so would taking it at bed time with the glycinate be ok? I’m 62 yo post menopause female with very sensitive nervous system ; not that that should matter but I thought I’d share that incase it matters.
I believe magnesium glycinate helps with sleep. Threonate is for mental acuity and can actually interfere with sleep. It should be taken earlier in the day.
@@margrose5 thank you . Unfortunately neither worked for me. Caused way to much GI problems. I tried different doses and combinations and one at a time. Great for brain fog and temporary slept benefits but my GI system was affected horribly. I finally had to let go of both magnesium’s.
@@debbieklose8776Hi. I have been taking one capsule of magnesium L threonate for about five days but I have had horrible gut problems and I was wondering if it could be the threonate what is causing it. After reading your comment I think I will have to stop taking it 😢and I just bought it a week ago. 😢
@@sabinealexander2773 I’m so sorry to hear this about you. It’s difficult as the gut microbiome is so complex. Additionally symptoms of Cptsd and irregular healthy and unhealthy foods over the last 50 years has added its own flair to the challenges I face today. For me , it seems since I started taking a medication for GI motility (Linzess and Amitiza) that I can handle magnesium better but it’s not a definite or daily regime. I hope you are able to get all resources you need that will benefit your best health moving forward. 💖 Information: I’ve struggled with IB-C and negative affects of SIBO that has also contributed to GI distress but the symptoms of Cptsd has played a gnarly part in my pelvic region and nervous system as well.
If it didn't absorb like that then why would people that have headaches from magnesium deficiency have them goi away after using a magnesuim oil spray consistently
@@Carnivorefitness2024 actually I have Citrate and Glycinate and still use both, Magnesium citrate is a more common choice if you want to maintain magnesium levels for general whole-body health. Magnesium Glycinate has a more calming effect and i will take it late afternoon or early evening as its known to improve sleep quality which i find to be the case...Glycinate can be taken with or without food..I never take more than 200 mg citrate and my Glycinate capsules are 175 mg...I do feel a little more calming effect with The Glycinate form , but generally Citrate is still beneficial and effective...
@@Starchaser63@Starchaser63 Thanks, I use it in powder form, I wanted to try the glycanate but reviews say it tastes very bad, I don't want to try the pills, I hear they aren't as good, who knows.
It say Magnesium L helps you sleep? So if I take it in the am like you suggested will I be tired all day? I've had long covid for for almost 2 years (getting better throughout that 2 years) so I'm always looking for something new to help. I'm a 65 year old male. Love your channel
I tried all forms of magnesium, all doses, with or without b1 etc... It makes me extreem depressed, lethargic, short of breath and extreme weak in de muscles.... all symptoms are gone within 48h quitting it...
should u take different types of magnesium throughout the day? for example threonate/taurate/malate/chloride around lunch time and glycinate in the evening?
I'd like to know this too. I don't understand how L-threonate exactly affects heavy metal absorption. I have heavy metal poisoning so him rings that up rings the alarms in my head.
You talk about heavy metals. Arsenic is very common here in water. We buy water because of arsenic in our well water. How is this your body and what could be done to remove it?
What about magnesium sulphate, also called "epsom salt"? I've been taking some lately (dissolving in water and drinking) and I think it may have reduced my leg cramps at night. It's far cheaper than any other form of magnesium... Are there any good reasons not to take it?
I do this exact same thing, along w potassium citrate, sea salt & trace minerals in distilled water. It tastes so good, in addition to the other benefits

I have had fantastisk resultater taking zma for musclesoreness now I work out... but I still got a forgyldt brain... I will try Trythis threonate thing when fasted in mornings. Cheers
I alternate between Mag malate and glycinate. For whatever reason malate produces faster results in regards to eliminating cramping, heat palps, period cramps, and I sleep awesome with it.
It's great information thanks for that, but here's a question, I have a bottle of Magnesium Oxide that says on the front that it helps metabolize carbohydrates, is this true or false advertising?
Chances are good that you are going to have at least some absorption so it's not a total waste of money. There's a way to know if it's helping you. Test mag levels (RBC), take the mag consistently for three months and then retest your mag.
This has the most research behind it. I’ve tested my blood levels through magnesium RBC testing numerous times after courses of different magnesium forms and chelates. Magnesium chloride is the only one that raised RBC levels significantly. I use a product called ReMag but there are many other brands.
@@troy9407 reference range goes from 4-6.4 . I went from 4 to 6. I test my blood every quarter. It took 1-3 months of magnesium chloride each night to boost it up. I have restless leg issues and it’s helped a lot.
Hi, is magnesium malate best for energy production (if you are endurance athlete) or which is? I take glycinate cause its affordable and is also for deficiency
Apologies if answered already. I'm late to the party. Where is the best place to buy l3&8 there are many places, many fakes, prices high to low....can you help?
I take 600 mg of glycinate for leg cramps but I’m also worried about Alzheimer’s prevention. Can I switch to threonate and it still help with leg cramps?
