Awesome instructions! My spring clamp got whacked out and I just needed to reset it. It is very difficult finding something to eat these days when you can't use your microwave. This video allowed me to fix it in 20 minutes. Thanks!

Thank you for making this video! For some reason the upper door lock switch was in the locked position. I reset it & it works like a champ. I'm sure this is only a temp fix. But it didn't cost me anything but my time & saved my wife and I over $100 buying a new over the range microwave. Thank you!

Thank you!!! I fixed the dislodged latch catch myself with your help and saved replacing the microwave or calling a repairman. Women, you can do this. I had MANY wires...more than what was in this video because a slightly different microwave. About 12 wire connections. I put masking tape on the wires and a little where they went in, labeled with numbers so I knew where they went back. Some needed a bit of prying off.

Thank you for this video. It seemed complicated when I first saw the video but it worked. The process was super smooth. The only thing is that the two blue cables plugging into a small black box would not come loose so I did not force them off. Other then that I didn't even have to replace the cam plate. I just had push it back to the open position so the door could lock and unlock properly. That was it. the whole process took like 15 minutes. If I had to do it again I could probably knock it out in 8 minutes now that I know what I'm doing.

This is awesome thanks! What I would add is to be certain to tighten the interlock allen (front) screw snugly. Be sure you have the correct allen star bit to get it tight. The constant opening/closing/slamming of the door can cause the interlock to shift slightly over time, and any mis-alignment whatsoever will affect the actuator button's consistency.

Well after seeing this seems to me that whirlpool should’ve had a recall on this and refunded some people some money. Researching how to fix mine and this is my exact microwave. Hmmmmmm, how lucky I am. Thanks for an amazing how to video.

Hi Brian, I had the same problem. I dont think it's a permanent fix but at least the next time we know how to fix it. It it happens for the 3rd time I'll replace the whole switch with the locking mechanism.

Great video I don’t know if this video does apply to my problem. My microwave is a whirlpool low profile model wml55011hs and the door does not close. There is a pin right below the upper latch that won’t let the door to close

Any recommendations on getting the interlock mechanism to properly snap into place? @2:45 Mine refuses to snap back on, and I'm experiencing and odd behavior from the microwave now: when I close the door the fan and light turn on and stay on. Any help or suggestions on troubleshooting this would be much appreciated. TIA!

I have a Kitchenaid microwave/convection KMHC319ESS2. I started getting the open/close door message that prevents from working. I ordered a bunch of stuff off repair clinic. Ended up replacing the bottom latch and switch, but can't find the actuator part for the bottom latch. The original says W10824413. It still said close door, so then I pushed the existing actuator all the way back so it doesn't 'spring' it just stays in the closed position. It works right now but not sure this half ass fix will work in the long run.

I have whirlpool. Suddenly tonight my microwave won’t go on. It flickers like it’s going to work then doesn’t. The door doesn’t seem flush seems like it’s hanging down a bit. Is this the issue. Or did I just never noticed how can I know if it’s issue in your video? Any advice?

So far, I'm having a really hard time pulling the red & brown wires. The bottom latch popped off, and I think once I get to it, it should be an easy fix. But this is a $400 microwave, and the lady who owns this condo will freak if I can't fix it, so I want to fix it as quickly as possible.

me too. I think the problem is the bottom actuator. I am literally in the middle of replacing that and the switch attached to it, but I can't get it to 'snap in' as shown here. Ugh.

I fixed it by resetting door locks. Used a spoon to set them to locked position, removed control panel per instruction and reset them manually. Worked like a charm.

Our 2-year-old Whirlpool microwave door latches were acting up. Was definitely something with switches/cam plate. Door would think its closed when open and visa versa. I was playing around with a screwdriver poking at the plastic cams from the outside and then the circuit breaker tripped. Microwave never powered back on after resetting breaker! Completely dead. The outlet is fine. Any ideas? It was working totally fine before I poked around at the plastic cams (power, cooking and keypad wise). Thanks in advance for any advice!!

Hi BMJAUDI, I would recommend calling a friend who is knowledgeable with electronics. You probably shorted out a component. It could be a cheap & easy repair. Or you might be better off just buying a new microwave...it all depends on how much money & time you want to spend.

Tony Newman Thanks for the reply. I did some more homework and figured out that there is a fuse at the top behind a metal plate. It was indeed blown from the shorted door switches. I replaced the $2 fuse and door switches and it’s been perfect!

@@BMJAUDI same thing happened to me. Pro Tip: make sure you unplug the microwave before poking around the door latch assembly with a steak knife. For those who dont read instructions, youll need a 250Volt, 20Amp ceramic fuse to replace the blown one. ;)

DO NOT BUY WHIRLPOOL MICROWAVES!!! it's the only microwave that won't recognize the door is open/shut for THREE different design failures. There's the dozen sensors around the door that need to be wiped clean, theres the white latch in this video, and there's the black sensor that burns out.
