Thanks for the video, I only needed to replace the bulb but its base had separated, remaining in the socket when I pulled out the bulb so this showing me how to access the socket made it way easier to get inside and get the base out.

This was exactly what I needed to remove the broken bulb. NOTE: if the screw holding the light diffuser cover is missing, just use one of those 10 screws from the bottom. I also glued a wingnut to the top of that screw so now I can remove the cover without a screwdriver!

I have replaced the bulb 3-4 times. It seems to work for a while, then goes out. Replace bulb, good for a while then out.... I have stopped replacing it. Kicking myself cause at the time it was only about 6 months old...

prior owner broke bulb in socket.. i replaced the socket but still light doesn't come on. I did order a compatible LED version, so not entirely sure it may just be incompatible bulb? or maybe the circuit board at this point. any thoughts? there isn't a separate fuse for the light ?

What if one of the connectors to the light socket is burnt out? would that cause the light bulb to not work? I replaced a new socket and a new light and the light still won't work. If so I will replace the connector at the end of the wire. Just curious if anyone knows how I should fix it.

Same thing happened to me. I ordered the bulb and socket. One of the wires seemed to have burned near the terminal. The wire near the terminal looks black. I may need to replace the wire as well.

My base separated and got stuck as well. We replaced bulb. Everything but the light works after plugging in. Any ideas? Our microwave is only a year old. Pretty frustrating!

The light in the interior top of my microwave flashes a few times every time the door is opened. What does that mean and do you have a video showing how it can be fixed? I have a Whirlpool microwave.

I have a Whirlpool WMH31017HW06 The light does not come on. I checked the voltage at the leads and had 120 v and it never changed with he switch. I took the leads from the turntable motor and connected them to the light and when I started the microwave the light came on. So I have a constant 120 volts but the light doesn't work. Anyone got any ideas? The microwave is just a year old.

Bad circuit board. You make just have to cut your lose and buy another microwave or add a light under the microwave

I fear this is my issue. I havent replaced the socket yet, but I'm gonna order another socket and hope for the best. This is my 2nd microwave. The door switch went bad twice on the last one.

by changing the sock will this fix the problem of the light staying on and will not go off with the switch? The bulb blew out and I replaced the bulb and the light stays on all the time

Same here, but I replaced the old bulb with a 40W led bulb, works but will not turn off.

I got the old base out using a old handyman trick. I had already flipped the breaker so no chance of shock then I cut the end off of a carrot that would fit in that small space. Trim the carrot so it fits snugly in the old bulb base, now while pushing in unscrew base. On larger bulbs a potatoe trimmed to the right size works well.

I had to have someone come over and replace my bulb and socket when the bulb burnt and the base broke off while I tried to change it. That was less than a year after purchasing my microwave. It burnt again not long after, and I didn't bother changing it, because I think it's silly having it so far back. After all these years, I thought I'd try to change it, and the bulb is stuck in the socket. How can I get it out? What would be causing the bulbs to burn out so quickly?

I saw where someone said if the replacement bulb doesn't work, replace the socket. But another person said it's probably the "switch." What and where is the "switch?"

have read so many comments that say the glass part of the bulb comes apart from it's metal base. wow, what a cheap thing to do whirlpool. what is this? built in money collection cuz so many of us have to buy the base as well? you can't make a light bulb that actually stays together so that we don't have to take everything apart? not cool.

My light stays on and doesn't go off. when I looked at the socket after taking the panel off, it looks like the rubber protector over the plugs have melted and gotten hard. Is this a bad light socket because the light wont turn off. I have already replaced the keypad but kept the same motherboard

Crypto Ops I think I may have an idea how to fix it. My microwave started doing the same thing about two weeks ago been doing some research and I believe it has to do with the soldering connection to the circuit board. I’m a pretty adamant about being DIYer I really do 90% of my fixes and projects so going to try I’ll let you know if it works. I found a video of someone explaining the same or similar issue but not the same microwave.

Rudy Salazar Just the bulb, though in my case the base of the bulb separated and got stuck in the socket, so taking the whole thing apart as shown in the video made it way easier to access the inside of the socket. Hopefully you didn't have that additional problem!

Eddie Lovins I’m having the same problem as you, the lightbulb detached from the metal part. So did you end up removing the whole bottom piece as he did?
