White's MX Sport Metal Detector VDI Readings with New York Metal Detecting

I'm pretty sure Whites made several firmware changes between the time the MX Sport came out and the MX7 was announced. Both machines share the same control box inner components. Have you checked if your detector can "see" that small ring with salt track added to coin and jewelry mode ? Mine can but I've seen a youtube video where one guy demonstrates that his MX Sport can't unless the ring is actually touching the coil when salt track is added. Same thing when he uses beach mode which probably adds salt track automatically. Alternatively, have you ever tried a concentric coil ? It shouldn't make a difference but just out of curiosity.

Hey guys, White's checking in here. After watching this video the detector seems to be operating within normal parameters. The Hi Trash mode on both the MX Sport and MX7 feature a default discrimination of all numbers up to 15 VDI. This gets rid of foil but lets most shallow nickels ring true. In this video you can clearly see why sometimes less discrimination is better, as it can cause you to miss out on thinner gold rings. Users can modify the discrimination setting by hitting Options, going to Disc, and then selecting which segments to accept or reject. We have seen gold rings come in anywhere from 05 (small women's wedding band) up to about 80 (large gold class ring).

master ofrevolt not broken. The default discrimination in that mode is too high for a thin gold band. Simply lower the discrim. I routinely hunt discriminating nothing but negative VDI’s. The MX Sport and the MX7 are both powerful, deep seeking machines, and I have dug several gold rings throughout the past couple years at varying depths.

Glad to see that White's checking in here. I probably wrongfully assumed that the OP had the presence of mind to adjust the disc in hi trash mode before performing the test. Of course if you disc out the ring numbers, how can the detector find it ?? Duh. Sometimes detector modes (anything other that all metal)can do weird things apart from just raising or lowering disc and that is what I thought was happening here. Anyway, I love my MX7. It has found me many goodies this year.

Yes I agree that it does get very low VDI's for gold. Gold can be 02 VDI up to 60 VDI I have been told. I personally only seen gold show from 02 VDI to 30's VDI. For me, it is just proof to dig everything.
