Fox News may blame Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Bernie Sanders for socialism’s increasing popularity, but Neal Brennan thinks it’s clearly due to rich people’s endless greed.

People seem to think that Jeff Bezos has that kind of money under his mattress. That is not how it works. Whenever he wants to buy something with that money he needs to sell shares from Amazon and pay taxes on those. Also he can't sell many stocks at once cause it could trigger others into selling. Also he is always at risk of loosing billions of dollars in net worth.

@@whochangedmyscreenname he could be worth Zero at any moment. GE used to be the biggest company in the US not too long ago. I just don't see anything wrong with how much Jeff Bezos has in net worth. Didn't he took the risk others were not willing to take? Didn't he found a solution to a problem in a way others did not? Hasn't he employed many people? Are there not many people who have become richer by investing in his company? Shannon Wiggins A Walmart employee earning the company’s median salary of $19,177 would have to work for more than a thousand years to earn the $22.2 million that Doug McMillon, the company’s chief executive, was awarded in 2017. At Live Nation Entertainment, the concert and ticketing company, an employee earning the median pay of $24,406 would need to work for 2,893 years to earn the $70.6 million that its chief executive, Michael Rapino, made last year. And at Time Warner, where the median compensation is a relatively handsome $75,217, an employee earning that much would still need to work for 651 years to earn the $49 million that Jeffrey Bewkes, the chief executive, earned in just 12 months. Absolute free capitalism is not at all where we are right now. We have an executive branch that is literally trying to socially engineer our economy by intervening in our spending decisions via tariffs and subsidies. One may disagree with their dubious attempts to prop up the domestic steel and coal industries (et al.), but by advocating for socialism, one fundamentally agrees with the Trump administration that the government is better suited to make capital allocation decisions than the forces of supply and demand of free and willing market participants. I would respectfully disagree.

@@deepfreeze202 - Libertarianism is shortsighted and extremely economically regressive. It should be obvious to everyone that being born in certain social classes has an overall effect on opportunity and wellbeing. Saying "government is the root of our problems" is an empty statement that means nothing. Which part of the government would you like to diminish or abolish? Police departments? How about no more military? Look, there's plenty of parts of our government and the practices of our representatives I'd love to diminish or abolish, but be real, the last thing we need is something stupidly regressive like a flat tax - with our ever-expanding class divisions - that Libertarians seem to love. I mean, would you rather live in a plutocracy, theocracy, corporatocracy or go all the with back to the good 'ol hunter/gatherer days? That's what would happen if government was all around diminished or abolished. A power vacuum ensues. I'd rather have smart government that works for the working-class' best interests, provides healthcare and education through progressive taxation, and also fully respects our individual liberties and bodily autonomy. In many ways, our government needs to expand.

Let poor people be "poor" as long as we're not starving, unhealthy, homeless, stuck in a cycle perpetrated by the rich, etc. We act like this country is a meritocracy, but the reality is that the rich exploit the poor with little return for the worth of their labor. Skilled labor has gone abroad and people with little money can't afford to learn skills professionally, especially for such few fields with high demand. We're stuck with tons of service and low-skilled work for little pay. This applies equally to socialism and communism. Exploitation of the poor by those in power. Everyone is so scared of the Boogeyman that is "Socialism". Let me explain what it really is in hopes of better enlightening everyone about it: Socialism is any political movement that is geared towards Social interests or centred around society. "Socialism" is just "Society"+ "ism", and anything + "ism" is a political/religious idea that is centred around that thing. It's not the gulag style Soviet Communism that many conservatives fear. Atleast it doesn't have to be. You see, If you Google "Socialism", you would get the definition "workers owning the means of production" but that is Marxist Socialism, because Marxism is the most famous type of Socialism and because Marx proved an important framework of what Social politics should be like, so naturally political scholars started to associate Marx with Socialism and suddenly, the entire meaning of Socialism has changed to what Marxism is. In other words, the politics centred around Social interests the way that Marx perceived how it should be, is Marxist Socialism, it doesn't define the entire concept of Socialism. I could, for example, come up with my own theory about a political system that benefits society and is centred around Social issues. That would also be "Socialism", because my theory would also be centred around Society. But mine could be entirely different from the Socialism of Karl Marx, yet it would still be a form of Socialism. So it would be unfair to say that my form of Socialism (or Karl's form of Socialism) is the default form of Socialism "Racism" is a type of politics centred around race, specifically how one race should dominate the other. "Feminism" is politics centred around women. Anyone can have their own perception about what Feminism should be like, in other words, they can have their own way of _how_ the feminism is implemented. The same goes with "Socialism". As long as Society is the central focus of it, anyone can dictate how it works, it's not this scary boogyman idea that the right portrays it to be.

Socialism is the Social Ownership of the Means of Production. Meaning that the Community owns the Workplaces, Tools, and Materials need for Production, either as Co-ops or through State control. Marxist Socialism is Socialism under a One party Regime implementing the ideas of Karl Marx. Pretty much All Political Movements are centered around Social Interests. Racism is the discrimination and prejudice of people based on their race or ethnicity. Feminism is a Socio-Political movement that seeks the equal rights of Women Those are Official definitions. Not really up to debate or Opinion.
@kalanaherath3076
@kalanaherath3076 5 лет назад
@@jascrandom9855 your comment shows the exact kind of Ignorance I loathe and often see in people. Listen, you are talked by about the manifestations of these ideas in specific forms in the society that we live in and that we know of. The outlining of the exact jobs that these ideas do, is what is mentioned in my comment above. You are mentioning the specific instances of the ideas, and I'm talking about what they actually are in theory. Also, NO all political theories are not CENTRED around society, but they rather make changes to society. The difference between a Socialistic political theory and every other political theory is that ALL political theories affect and make changes in Society, but Socialistic theories are CENTRED around Society, meaning that they make Society their central focus, and introduce thing like the Social welfare state to benefit Society, rather than any one group, one corporation or one individual 1) Racism is only discriminatory BECAUSE it is a system of politics centred around race. When it is centred around race, it divides people based on race. That is WHY it is discriminatory. 2) Feminism seeks to improve the status of women in society BECAUSE IT IS CENTRED AROUND WOMEN. Why the actual F would it otherwise be specific to women? 3) The Socialism you mentioned is the system of Politics centred around Societal interests that Karl Marx invented. I could make my own (anyone can for that matter) with the hope of benefitting Society, those would also then be Socialism. Putting this aside even, Socialism existed way before Karl Marx introduced Marxism, it was actually started by Henri-Saint Simon

Justin Taylor the report is produced by the united nations, so it’s pretty credible. As for how they measured it?... they asked them «how happy are you on a scale of 0 to 10». Don’t see why size or ethnic diversity should matter. If a system yields happiness to 85M white folks it should do so to 350M white, brown and latino people as well. In fact, every country happier than the US has evidently more wealth redistribution than the US. Perhaps peoples and cultures are more similar to each other than you’d like to think.

Let's not get all too excited here. We are not really seeing anyone argue for socialism, the closest we get is the Nordic version of Democratic Socialism (TM) which advocates Economic Democracy (which just translates into the economy working for the people. I'm Norwegian and Elizabeth Warren would literally be a right winger here, hell, even the majority of Sanders' policies would be well right of center - and we are NOT socialist ... :D Calling universal healthcare socialism, when even Margareth Tatcher supported it (yes, she did ...) is just ... weird. It is like calling the police socialist. Yes, I understand the thought - collective spending = socialism - and you are, pending definition, kinda right, but by that definition everyone who does not want to privatize the government and hand it all to Jeff Bezos is a socialist. (Edit: And just to be clear, the Nordic countries are not democratic socialist either, we do however have notable democratic socialist parties, and the biggest parties used to espouse it - but have now embraced Social Democracy. Norway's last Democratic Socialist PM was Trygve Bratteli '71-'72 & '73-'76. Sweden's last, possibly only DS PM was Olof Palme, '69-76 & '82-'86)
