@TooMuchDramaInTheMilkyWay Galaxy german here, with one of the best healthcare systems in the world. Still, women have to buy those things with taxes and no one is complaining about it. Just buy the god damn pads if you don't want your pants be painted red. The Argument "It’s a necessity not a choice" is not very smart tho. I can put the same argument on food. It's a necessity to eat, i didn't chose to eat, though i have not to pay for my 3 Big Macs, 4 large sodas & 5pound steaks...

@@fivetynine How about the equality of women getting free admission into clubs and free drinks while the men have to pay? Clearly it would be a bad business practice to make both pay wouldnt it? There would be less women coming and therefore less men...its discriminatory, but thats because WOMEN will be less likely to drop by on their choice if they have to pay. Men will be willing to pay if they can get more opportunity to pick up women. You legislate equality on that or even change the culture to make women more aware of their participation in gender inequality, then nobody wins most likely...

@@Obinndash Partially yes on the razor. No on the deodorant, generally. Its not always that women's deodorant has more ingredients. They usually have the same, with the mens sometimes having more of the antiperspirant. It could be the fragrance costs. it could be that since female deodorant containers are smaller and the amounts of product is smaller- its that quantity of product factor. Like if you have more quantity of something, you generally pay less. Like if you buy a 2 pack of something vs individual. It could be many other things.

I’m a woman. I started using Harry’s razors and love them. I’m on their mailing list. I don’t buy them that often, and a customer rep asked how they could improve, as I wasn’t buying them at a rate that a man usually buys them. I told the rep that I’m female, that I love the product, and not to change a thing. She (yes, I said ‘she’) couldn’t believe that I bought them for myself! She said that perhaps they should start marketing to women. I told her, don’t you dare. I like the low cost, thank you very much. If you make a pink razor and raise the price, you’ve just lost a customer.

If women as a whole stop buying the more expensive product because it’s pink and start buying the cheaper alternative, companies will either lower prices or be ran out of business. As a guy, I realized this a long time ago. The PH scale in deodorants are different for men and women. I don't believe they need to be but they are. Some men's deodorants burn due to the high PH. I was at a convenient store with limited options so I bought Secret deodorant. It cost more than the Men's options although it obviously had less of that PH related ingredient. Secret has been awesome for me although admitting to wearing it has some weird stigma attached due to Secret being a "woman's deodorant". It is just a product that blocks perspiration and covers up odor. The ability to block perspiration and cover up odor should be a gender less issue. That is a worry everyone has.

@Chronicler9
@Chronicler9 5 лет назад
@@AndyOO6 I actually agree with you in a general sense. It's Commerce, and logic from a business standpoint. But the issue of "pink tax" goes far-enough beyond simple razors. There have been multiple studies about it, honest marketing sessions promoting it, and just plain common-sense by reflecting on payments in general. It really does start during babyhood - easily seen when you go shopping. To be fair, women also need more things than men in a general sense - periods, birth control, breasts, and highly-varied body sizes affect their necessary income on the very basic level: toiletries (taxed as "luxury items" although they are necessities) or excruciatingly-pricey bras (again a social necessity) when you compare the $15-$50 avg bra price at a store where you can get a shirt for 5 bucks. Now tack on socially-obligated make-up or care products; compare deodorant prices - which may have slightly altered ingredients but ultimately little to no difference in cost for production between genders; even Dress Code standards at jobs (have you SEEN the price of even our most basic dress shoes?). The cost of living, for women, even though I fully understand that marketing is what it is and upselling based on visual appeal is a legit tactic for business, is so SO skewed that it's not something a progressive culture should just write off. Moreover, rate of pay IS legit skewed as well - not as much in more common jobs (although still applicable) but the higher a woman climbs, the more skewed it gets, or the harder it is to continue climbing compared to a man putting forth the same effort. This stems from our history. Our culture not too long ago was "Men are the breadwinners, women are the homemakers" so our current system along with our mass accepted culture - although progressing if you consider suffrage or women breaking into more job arenas - is still highly impacted by that previous viewpoint. There are more factors than i believe can be overturned in a night, and not just businesses are to blame. But if there's something us baby-birthers and generalized-caretakers have, it's Endurance. It sucks that people working for 20 years have still made precious little headway on this, but i'm glad they continue. And more and more voices are chiming in, along with entertainers and media offering their voices to promote the humanity of women more than the gender (like Captain Marvel, for instance). I don't believe it will end with just "hey businesses - stop it!" What has to happen is an overturning of the system in the minds of the general public. But the US has been known for revolutionary ideas and taking stands for things we believe. Our ideals, although not fully realized, make this a country where it's at least Possible for smaller voices, minority voices, and common voices to all be heard and even make great changes. Rather than regretting the long road we've already been on, I'm choosing to be hopeful for the future. I love comedians like Desi and Trevor adding their voices and keeping the topic in public mind. When it was done the barber said $20. I had an argument with him over discriminating against me for having a different genetalia. The men in there were looking at me like I was crazy. The barber acted like what's the problem. You're a women, women have longer hair and I'm like BUT I HAVE THE SHORTEST HAIR IN HERE. AND THERE ARE MEN WITH LONG ASS HAIR. @pdoylemi
@pdoylemi 5 лет назад
That makes you one in a million. Companies don't set up pricing that way. Also, it is not about length of hair, but the style. You may be that rare case where your cut is as easy as a guy's, but women (even with short hair) tend to have more difficult styles and tend to be more picky about their hair. When I was in the Navy, the high and tight cut that shops near the base knew well was easy - usually took under 5 minutes, but I paid the same as civilian men with longer hair and more difficult styles. It never occurred to me to bitch about it. I cut my own hair these days - so could you - problem solved. They COULD charge by the minute, but that would just encourage them to go slowly and screw everyone. How about the "blue tax"? GO to any bar in the nation - see if anyone buys a drink for a man. My wife used to go out with her cute girlfriends a lot, and they rarely took more than $20 with them - because they knew that guys would buy most of their drinks. Before I met my wife, I dated for 17 years. In all that time, only ONE woman even pretended to be willing to share the cost. The counter argument is that if I didn't like that, I should make sure the woman is willing to pay at least half when asking her out - and I probably would have been a virgin for 57 years. You don't like the way these businesses calculate prices? Buy some trimmers or scissors.
@pdoylemi
@pdoylemi 5 лет назад
@@OjaysReel No it isn't. Businesses can't set their prices on an individual basis, unless they go by the hour, which just encourages the people to go slowly, screwing everyone. Remember, most of these people do not work for the shop - they rent a chair. My niece was a beautician - she charged by group. Because if she had to play the averages, and if one customer got a break because they were easy and anyone knew - then everyone would want the same and she would spend more time explaining her charges than actually working. If you do not like the way these businesses work, go to Walmart - buy some trimmers or scissors and cut your own damned hair as I do. How about this? When my wife and I were in Vegas I needed a cut, and my wife decided to get one too. I paid $18, and I was in and out of the chair in under 10 minutes. I paid $35 for her, but she was in the chair for over half an hour. So her cut cost about a dollar a minute and mine cost almost two dollars a minute. OH! I am paying a blue tax!

Look, I know you think women are inferior beings beings with putty minds being manipulated by society, and so nothing is their fault. If you are correct, then patriarchy would be a good thing. You know what? When a guy buys a drink for a woman, that gesture has MEANING! Anyone without the dignity to turn it down, knowing what it means, should be ashamed - as I used to tell my wife before she stopped. Unless they are at least a bit interested, they are almost stealing. But it is all men's fault. When most women start rejecting free drinks or free dinners or free dates, men will stop offering them. THese things are GIFTS made in the hope of getting a woman's interest. No man in history has stopped and thought about whether he had more or less money than the woman he buys a drink for, you fool. If I thought I had even a tiny chance of dating her, I would buy a drink for Scarlett Johannsen and she is thousands of times richer than I will ever be. just so everyone is aware, the wage gap studies were not comparing "TOTAL earnings of ALL men and women working." they are comparing per capita earnings of all men to all women. very big distinction. you implied that the reason men earn more on average is because there are more men working. which makes no sense, because we're talking about average earnings. if there were merely more men working, and the studies were conducted on the same basis, then they wouldn't show men earning more on average. this is pretty basic stuff, an average is the sum of all the mens' salaries divided by the number of men. more men working for the same wages would result in the SAME average. in reality, the studies were conducted by comparing averages of the salaries of a broad, uncontrolled sample of men to those of a comparable sample of women. the results were that the "average man" earns more than the "average woman." it is not because there are more men in the workforce, it is because men seek different occupations. men are more driven to succeed financially, work longer hours, seek more overtime, and like you said are more aggressive in requesting raises. men work much more dangerous and productive jobs. it's not exclusively because of choice but also because men generally score higher on aptitude tests for systemizing tasks, while women score higher on empathizing. in general, the lifestyles and biological differences between men and women are the sole cause of the "pay gap." the studies themselves were not methodologically flawed, and didn't make any false conclusions from the data. it was the reporting and misrepresentation of the studies which caused this misconception. scientifically illiterate leftists touted the studies as proving that men make more than women for the exact same work. at best, they completely misunderstood the research. at worst, they intentionally and knowingly misrepresented it to advance their bogus narrative.

And something else they probably taught you in that class is that the reason companies do this is because the items sell. Industries have discovered that women will choose to buy the pink (or women-specific) versions, despite the higher prices. So it's not just the companies' faults for selling pink things at higher prices, there's also some blame to be laid on the women who create the demand for such items, despite the higher price. Like they said in the video, we can starting solving this problem by reducing demand for the $30 two-pack of pink razors with beautiful smooth curves and hydroglide gel action and just buying the giant box of Bics for $2. I'm being hyperbolic, but you get what I'm saying.

Some people are just set in their ways. My family had been buying name brand allergy meds for my whole life. When I went off to college and started shopping for myself I realized that the drug store brand legally must have the same active ingredients. I paid a teensy bit more but I also got several times as many pills. I introduced the idea to my parents and now they do the same. Sometimes you unconsciously get stuck buying what you always do. There is also a bit of a stigma around women buying men’s products. Once when I was home for break I realized we were out of the shampoo/conditioner we normally use and my brother had replaced it with some for men for himself since I’m away 90% of the time. So I just used his, no big deal. But my brother, mother, and father all told me it was strange I was using men’s hair products when they found out. Not to mention rumors that men’s razors (or whatever product) are too harsh on women’s skin and they need to stick to women’s products. Even if they were the same exact price I don’t think most men would feel completely comfortable buying a pink razor. It probably feels the same for women. Of course not all people actually care (especially in the face of a discount) but some do. Also also, something not covered in this video is that pink tax also refers to menstrual products which are unavoidable purchases that are taxed as luxury items.

It's called Supply and Demand. CEOs aren't thinking about how to rip off women, their #1 priority is how to make the most money. They will charge the price at whatever price makes them the most money. Nobody is forcing the women to buy the pink razors or forcing them to have a higher demand for products made with a feminine appearance. If the women didn't have a higher demand for pink products than men have for black/grey/blue products, then the pink products wouldn't be charged so high. Instead of trying to get a law passed that would force draconian laws to make all the prices equal regardless of the difference in demand and cost of production, just take some personal responsibility either buy the cheaper men's products, or pay up for the pink ones.

The problem seems to be that most women don't know that the "women's" product of two otherwise identical products is more expensive. Thus, the price difference does not seem to derive from *price discrimination* but *market failure,* the latter which is considered to be an undesirable effect to capitalists/economists. The law as proposed in the video actually creates a market inefficiency. If a law is passed, then it should focus on making the premium for "pink" products explicit, such as placing these products side by side when the consumer is purchasing. In that way, the market has the opportunity to correct itself, and there are not different expectations for personal responsibility between men and women.

Exactly Dexter Morgan. In 1:19 if you pay attention you can clearly see that the painkillers are totally different, and it's actually pretty easy to notice. I also think this video is spreading a lot of misinformation so to anyone who disagree with me I would recommend you to watch this video: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-pltkcFNRxjo.html and even after watching the video you still disagree, I would like to have a proper debate.

I'm not gonna start all the Pink tax debate which is discussed in depth for years in the whole political spectrum. I just want to point out a single thing about haircuts. The basic requirement for a barber is one year of apprenticeship while for a typical hairdresser the time of apprenticeship is three years thus there is a difference in cost. I think that's the basic principle of economy that you can charge more for a higher education/apprenticeship. Sorry if the translation to english may be flawed in some way or another.

But as a woman who gets her hair cut like a man. I have to pay $5.00+ , to get the sam hair cut as my twin brother. So, why?

@@EveMe He told you why he think it is so. Hairdressers require more training then barbers. Get your hair cut at your brother's barber. His barber is not going to require you to pay more.

The problem is occupational licensing.

At 1:09 you can see the price tag above the pink razor. It says $5.49... the same price as the men's. Do they think we are just that stupid?

I don't get how just buying the version for men isn't considered a good way to deal with this problem. By basically boycotting the overpriced female version producers will be forced to change their pricing. Is all about supply and demand, as long as women keep buying pink products even though they are more expensive someone will take advantage of that.

Its not a good solution because the corporations creating the issue still get your money if you buy the male version of their product.
@BentonRox

There's two basic problems with what you're saying. And that's if I just to ignore the inherent sexism in the statement "just buy the version for men." 1. Not all of the products are gender neutral enough to just by the male version. Women who buy male scented products like deodorant and shampoo and body spray are often judged for it. They should also might not want to smell like musk or Old Spice and might prefer something simple like baby powder and shouldn't have to pay $2 more because of it. Or the product might not be as effective. The piece brought up the subject of diapers, which are gender specific because of physiological differences. having the sex change operation necessary to not get over charged for adult diapers seems like a lot to ask of our female senior citizens. 2. Sometimes even when we take the male version we still get screwed. On this thread are many comments, (None of which I'm guessing you've read) addressing the haircut part of the issue. ) Even those of us with short, some might even say masculine haircuts, who go to a barber or a chain salon store are still going to get charged $5 more for a "women's cut." I spent months shopping around trying to find a place that doesn't do that only to find that the only place in town with gender neutral haircuts charges $20 more. But even those two basic arguments are not the point. Boycotts and protests take time and energy and often don't actually yield a tangible result even after years. All a man has to do to get a fair price is walk up to a shelf, pick the product he wants and buy it. That's the only "men's version" that I want.

@@BentonRox "Boycotts and protests take time and energy and often don't yield a tangible result..." Sure, and spending 20 years lobbying for new federal regulations of dubious constitutionality is a much better option.
