Why 2024 Will be a Great Year for Melee! 

Even more good news we are learning about today: Genesis is on pace to be the 3rd largest ever, with it being one of the top 10 most-entered tourneys of all time! Entrants for locals are also up and it seems like an offline boom is happening. Is there anything else I missed for 2024, or what are you most excited for this year?

Ppmd competing would definitely bring life back. Still hoping

I understand that everyone is eager to see you compete, and this can create a lot of pressure. I hope you recover well and consider participating in a tournament either as a player or a caster. And if you choose to participate as a player, there's no need to play super tryhard like a Melee god; we just want to see you enjoy yourself while competing again.

Being able to bring up the positives in the community with a video is huge. Thank you for making this, the scene needs positivity!

To add to all the points he mentioned: 1. Aklo's Link is phenomenal and paired with his incredible Fox, its super exciting, so Link representation at top 8s (and RedX's combo videos) should breathe life into that character too. 2. Outside of Morsecode and TheSwooper, FkinSilver is another Samus menace to look forward to. 3. Combo breaker and Genesis Black were both showcasing the highest level melee with non-top 10 competitors in attendance. 4. Speaking of Combo breaker, Joshman is now sponsored and can attend more events! 5. Speaking of Genesis Black, Lucky seems to be back on the melee grind as well, and it would be so hype to see him duke it out with the rest of the best at Genesis. 6. KJH. That's it. That's the point. 7. There's Mang0 practicing which is so fun to watch. There's Plup and Leffen still taking majors when they attend, and Wizzrobe, Axe, and Amsa giving them the run of their life, so it's almost like a gold-plated platinum era. 2024 will be diabolically fun.

I honestly didn't know about you too much until I saw EmpLemon's documentary on Hbox. I was growing up around the time Melee released but I didn't really have too much internet access, so I was in the dark about Melee's competitive scene for a good chunk of its early life. Just wanted to say I quite enjoyed seeing a few of your matches (albeit much later after they happened) from that era. I'm glad to see you doing well for yourself.

I’m just hoping that locals aren’t impeded with the new restrictions. Back in October I hosted an ultimate tournament, which was not only the first event I’ve ever hosted, but the first video game tournament that my entire county has experienced since pre-pandemic. A lot of rural places have talented players, not just for Melee or Ult, but for a lot of games, and the players can’t always afford to consistently travel to larger cities for events. The grassroots aspect of smash needs to stay alive.

I personally thought 2023 was a great year and it never felt like there was a drought of majors, but maybe that's because I follow both Melee and Ultimate and didn't have as much time to watch tournaments during Fall because of school
