Glad I found this video. Getting a 23 700r but I kept seeing videos of it having cracked engines 😂

Ive got a 2017 motor stock, uni filter and cfm oil tank. About 82 i think was my top speed, dont think i hit rev limit. Absolute top maintenance done. Cuervo knows his raptors! (:

Even the best engines in the world will fail when you keep them bouncing off the rev limiter. Maintenance and understanding how your machines work are what make engines last. Glad you pointed this out!

Ugh. Can't fix stupid. It's a big block beast! You can't hold Banshee rpm's. Let it thump, that's where the power is. Plus.. Yamaha. Awesome power but a nightmare of unserviceable over-engineering. Remember the first gen 660 that would backfire through the carb and destroy the intake boot? That was a fun 2 hour fix.

Hi from England. Definitely love all the information you offer us. I totally agree with you, when you say "operator error" I own a 700 and I keep telling my friends, there is no point me riding with them while on there motor bikes. I can blow them away, but don't have the longevity in my engine, to continue at higher rates of speed and distance. This type of sports quad, just isn't designed for road trips at prolonged periods of time. People forget, it's a sports Atv made to be road legal?? Why do people forget this?

Stay off rds period! Chews up tires badly. Forget top speed racing (on rd). Stay off rev limiter as much as possible..your bike will last much longer! Use Maxima oils in states or Motul for you guys across the pond;) Motul is excellent we can get it here too. Can you get Maxima or Bel-Ray ester fortified full synthetic oil there? Thanks. - Ohio USA

Maintenance is everything! Quality oil as well as quality filters is well worth the little extra effort/money. Ran my built 686 pretty hard for 3 seasons on a stock crank with no catastrophic failue. Replaced it with a falicon stock stroke rod and to my surprise, the OEM rod had very minimal wear. This is most likely because my bike seen an oil change after every dune trip wether it was ran all weekend or just for the day!!

@racequad9
@racequad9 3 года назад
Far more important than quality of of oil is the time between oil changes. I think you can go a cheaper oil like Rotella and just change the oil every 10 hours along with your filter. Which, like you said, is the reason your rod was still in good condition.

@@chrispotts2808 Yamalube definitely isn't bad.. but Cuervo Racing & a few others on forums DONT recommend it for the really higher performance Yamaha's! Seriously ..sport street bikes/MX bikes/sport quads etc. U should run Maxima full synthetic (Pro Plus) 10w40 or Mobil1 4T 10w40.

@@racequad9 Well ..kinda true. Frequency can make up for mediocre oil to an extent BUT at very least use a semi synthetic 10w40 like Maxima OR Bel-Ray! Both are ester fortified oils. Change @10hrs religiously w/ good filter. I use K&N / Yamaha / twin air oil filters! That's exactly all I do 100%. Have YZF450X & new '21 Raptor 700R-SE. Race 🏁 em both.

I have a 2020 rappy synthetic oil always. Change around 10 hours or so. I ride hard and push it but I always short shift no need to rev all the way out power drops off up top

Thats the ticket! Stay off the limiter. Use Maxima semi synthetic 10w40 or Yamalube semi synthetic 10w40 consistently & OEM filters or Uni air & oil filter boyz. Ur golden .

another thing too ppl dont see is that if you put any bike on a dyno lets say like the 2018 700 raptor max rpm is around 8k rpm ab7k will be your max hp anyway after that you anly get 2 mabe 4 mph so if ppl just going to do mile after mile wide open back it off to 7k and save the motor

I agree with bad maintenance being1 issue & over revving another , but how does 700 hold up year after year winning the Dakar ? That’s thousands of miles basically wide open on a stock ish engine ! I’ve got 4K miles on mine 2011 driveline never touched . Dakar is one reason I got a 700 , I figured if they can take that abuse I will not come close . lol

Ok listened to entire video. Been riding/racing 30+ yrs. I never stay on rev limiter..in fact I try not to hit it while still reving hard thru gears (experience!). Plus use ONLY Maxima Semi-Syn 10w40 OR Mobil1 4T racing 10w40.

Good information. Love the videos. We have 2 2018’s and 1 2017 raptor. We ride the dusty trails in Michigan and have some stretches of straight trail that go on for a few miles then back to normal trail where we slow down. When you say high rpm do you mean keeping it at rev limit or the upper 25% of rpm range? For a good oil. Do you have a recommendation? I have read many debates. We just run the yamalube 10W40 but change it every 2-3 rides which is could be 300 miles or more before changing it. Do you have a oil change frequency recommendation? So far we have not had any problems how we are doing things and we have close to 2000 miles on them already. We just want to make sure we are doing everything right. Thanks.

i would stay under 6k for a sustained period. change the gearing if necessary. i also recommend to run anything but Yamalube, ... switch to Mobile 1 4t or amsoil or another synthetic 10-40 motorcycle oil. i also recommend no more then 6 tanks of fuel between oil changes, use, modifications for hp and riding style can change this, most see 3max with modified engines

Michigan strong! Get an hr meter it sticks on side of ur frame. Don't go over 10hrs on an oil change. Yamalube is AWESOME oil. Get the 10w40 semi-synthetic formulation or try Maxima semi synthetic 10w40! Also a super engine oil! Use OEM filters or Uni or K&N an change every other oil change. Run 93 premium fuel ONLY & add some octane booster to it. Get at auto zone.. Ur Raptor will run better & cooler.

Thanks for all the great videos, may I ask your opinion, as I value it highly, you are one of the best. Of all Rap700 available model years, which is generally best for overall quality and engine reliability (not full-on race build, only plan 'BIG 3') and hard trail use? 15+ for the single port exhaust? New 2019? Any other known improvements year over year, or bad year or model to avoid? Thanks in advance for any advice or insight you may share.

the newer they are the more refined, the quality dropped some in the 13+ YEARS while gaining some improvements. not one particular bad year though i tend to shy away from the 09-11 with the speed dash as the repair parts for that system are expensive and not very common in the used market.

YAMALUBE RANKED WORST OIL (That can't help the situation)

What's your source for this
@windycityjohn400
@windycityjohn400 Год назад
@hank1556 Feel free to check-out yourself. Simply search "540 rat blog oil test". It's A LOT of data. But YAMALUBE ranked 240th out of 240 oils tested. Unfortunately I can't post the screenshot highlights, but essentially they concluded that it tested worse than any oil they'd ever seen and shouldn't be ranked as a oil. Their testing is admittedly harsher than engines experience, but 239 other oils outclassed YAMALUBE in their testing. Having said that...I own 4 YAMAHAS, (133HP Banshee, 74HP Banshee, 83HP Raptor, 50HP YFZ450R) I bleed YAMAHA BLUE.....But you couldn't pay me to use YAMALUBE.
