What do you get when you cross a croissant and a waffle? A very popular trend in South Korea. The croffle. I live in Seoul and pass at least ten cafes selling croffles whenever I walk anywhere so I was very surprised when a friend from Australia messaged me saying they’d just found this amazing new food. It was in fact a croffle, although it made me realise that I’d never actually tried one so today we’re fixing that. Come with me on a journey to find out why croffles are so popular in South Korea and also to find the best croffle cafe. Theres some steep competition.

Until I can travel, I love that all these food trends from Asia are finding shops in Toronto. We walked by a croffle place yesterday in Kensington Market and I explained to my friend that these are hugely popular in Korea. "What's a croffle?" "It's a croissant and a waffle" "awww, I was hoping the the cro was for crawfish" "....that would still be good"

So the sweet garlic one - is it the pastry itself that is sweet? Or is there sugar or some sweet sauce on it? I'd never heard of a sweet garlic bread before.

The brown cheese you guys saw is another big trend in the last 6 months or so. It's a Norwegian cheese called brunost and it has a caramel flavor.

Ahh Mangwon-dong ㅠㅠ my favorite place in Seoul! The cafes there are the best! They have the kindest owners. I miss it so much! Croffles were just starting to get popular when I left but I never tried one

Those look so good. We’ve got a really popular cronut place where I live (that I actually don’t like), but I haven’t seen croffles yet. I really like that there are savory ones too. Maybe I should suggest them to the new French Pastry/Ramen restaurant (weird combo, I know) when it fully opens.

와플집 한국에세 젤유명한 덕수궁옆 와플집 줄서서 먹지요 그집 와플이 젤 맛잇어요 크로와상 와플 맛없어요 크로와상도 아니고 와플식감도 아니고 작년에 인기잇어서 줄서서 사봣는데 맛없어서 안사게 대더라구요 강남역 카페만 가봐도 기존 벨기에식 와플위주로 판매해요 거기에다 아이스크림과 여러가지 토핑으로 된 디저트 넘맛잇어요 ^^
