Why Are We Getting no NEW Traits in The Sims 4? What Happened?!

I have been disappointed in the amount of new, useful, and interesting traits added to The Sims 4 for a long time now. Expansions and Game Packs have given us very few, and I have taken the time to crunch the numbers to compare what we got with The Sims 3, to what we have now. It seems like some philosophy at Maxis has changed, but in my opinion it leaves players wanting for more.

@@XxXNOSCOPEURASSXxX nah it's badly optimized by EA, they even made it break more with the last patch for the game, so we would all move to 4! Guy Yes! This is all I’ve wanted! I thought they would just update what they had with the Sims 3 in the Sims 4 (run faster, better graphics, crash less, maybe some different gameplay). Both Sims 2 and Sims 3 were unique in their own sense, but they all felt like upgrades to their predecessor... Sims 2 was revolutionary in that it gave us aging, weather, the full camera view, toddlers, fantastic gameplay, and better building. Sims 3 gave us an entirely open world, the color wheel, collectables, a better camera, advanced terrain tools, better building, houseboats and swimming in all water, etc... Sims 4 gave us what...? Multi-tasking...? Except they did it in a way that’s not fun because no one can sit still or ever get anything done and they all wonder around with plates of food... Instead of being an upgrade, Sims 4 was this entirely new game that took away features we literally waited years to get... It really brought nothing to add and took away main features that none of the other versions did.

I liked "Can't stand art" trait because you had to improve a sims surroundings without just throwing an expensive painting on the wall. I was a fan of "shy", because you had to work to get to know the person and then they would be comfortable around you - as opposed to 'loner' who just hated being around people. I also like "absent-minded" because you had to pay attention to the game and sometimes they left a task like cooking on a stove. And yes, unlucky was definitely a fun one.

The unstable trait is currently my favorite. You MUST pay attention to the moodlets, because your sim might have a Delusional Episode and their traits will change. You have to send them to the hospital if it's too late. At early stages, you can make your sim calm down by taking deep breaths. I find this gameplay really dramatic and challenging. We don't simply want a copy/paste of Sims 3. We want a Sims that expands on what Sims 3 brought to the table. Sequels are supposed to be better, or at the very least more expansive, than their predecessors. Sims 3 brought a LOT to the table. A full seven course meal with a few of the top expansion/game packs. Sims 4, while clearly an upgrade in the visual department, brought appetizers, even with the packs. Saying "just play Sims 3, then!" is dismissing the problems that Sims 4 has. And if you're a Sims fan, you don't want to do that. IF they ever make another Sims game (and they may not since Sims 4 isn't getting the same love from fans that 3 still is to this day), they need to know what we want. And this is how we tell them.

Definitely agree with the point on “just play sims 3 then.” We shouldn’t have to go to a visually dated, older game (that doesn’t run well on my newer laptop) just to find enjoyment in a franchise that has a current game out! I still love sims 3 but the more I play it the further it feels from the world I’m in now. The base game came out in 2009 and it’s just so outdated in some aspects that it feels too far from being a life sim for what is my current experience in the world. The sims 4 shouldn’t be such a downgrade from a previous version of the game that I feel the need to play the previous one instead.

I think TS5 will be a better balance between the two. When 4 released, it's graphics were pretty revolutionary for a life sim-it probably took up loads of development time and limited how deep they could make the gameplay:/ But I don't think they could really have gotten away with launching 4 with only somewhat updated Sims 3 graphics-leaving them kinda stuck. They'll probably only have to update their graphics engines a little for TS5 (since TS4 pretty much meets modern visual standards), giving the team more time to establish good systems! --btw I'm not saying I think TS4's systems are solid (like at all)...but I can see how they got to where they are now, and I have hope that there's light at the end of the Sims 4 tunnel lol

[Rant] They are making plans on creating new DLCs and connecting with the sims community, but they've never been this out of touch and complacent, Sims 4 is in a absurd price range for all its dlcs and the lack of content when compared to Sims 3 and even Sims 2! Yeah, sure the game is good looking, smoother, but IT IS A TODDLER! You have to punish yourself to have fun! creating self imposed restrictions so you're not millionaire or super-powered 3 weeks with a new family, you need 500+ mods to make the game better and to add content! we even have MODS FOR TRAITS! Don't even get me started on their the overuse of Townies, Sims 3 University you had tons of crafted Sims to marry, bring back and play to with Sims 4 TOWNIES ARE RANDOMLY GENERATED COSMIC ABOMINATIONS! made for filler functions! yet they never been this prioritized before, to the point you have a bunch of Townie Generator scripts all conflicting or overwriting one another, where you only needed 1 GENERATOR! if only the game bothered using your "created sims pool", sims you intentionally leave homeless and unemployed so they can be used instead of TOWNIES! Dev team should have at least created a better generator script. yeah, you can use mods to fix it, but should we rely solely on the community to fix everything? I invite all to think about these things, rumors of sims 5 being a multiplayer (so mods will probably not work or if they do, be quite limited), I played sims all my life and it is such a strange game for me in Sims 4, what truly went wrong there? The quality of the traits is arguably an even bigger issue than the quantity. Compare the same traits that are in both games and most of the interesting details that flesh out a Sim's personality and how they interact with others and the world around them are completely gone, usually replaced with "gain X skill faster" or "randomly be in this mood for 10 minutes". It's like the developers knew traits needed to be in the game but had no idea how to implement them in engaging ways.

hell light sleeper and deep sleeper DID have big impacts, from what i recall deep sleepers lost energy slower and gained it slower while light sleepers gained it faster (and lost it faster) while deep sleepers would not get woken up by any loud noises (like an alarm, fire alarm, gem cutter, radio, etc) while light sleepers could randomly wake up from someone walking into the room or having a TV or radio audio set to loud even in another room. thats still pretty deep for 2 "minor" traits, nothing to sleep on compared to the light and lazy impacts of sims 4 "major" emotional traits, talk about snoresville. i mean deep sleeper and couch potato paired up very well to the point where a sims energy could go on for literal days due to how slow it went down, and thats without the sleep reduction reward, though being couch potato they would spend alot of the time watching TV if given full autonomy and no interfearence but the thing is this fills out pretty much what someone with insomnia WOULD do because as someone who does on occasion stay awake for 2-3 days straight i do spend alot of it watching videos online or laying on a couch. all that from a simple pair of traits that enhance eachother. meanwhile in sims 4 if you pair cheerful and Bro! you would gain a very minor impact to how the sim would automatically interact with the world and that is TWO OUT OF THREE TRAITS!

I feel the most cheated by univeristy and tiny living when it comes to traits. I feel like univeristy should have had a 'studious' trait, where the sims enjoy doing homework, school doesn't stress them out as much, and they gain fun from learning skills (please correct me if another trait already does this). And I definitely feel like TL should have had an 'environmental' type trait, like sims who feel guilty for spending too much time on technology, or taking long showers. But even then it doesn't matter. I could literally randomise my sims traits and it would not make a difference to my gameplay. I just feel like this game goes out of its way to prevent anything negative from happening. Nothing has any consequences and I literally cannot play a sim longer than a few hours before I make another one because I'm so frustrated that I cant play the story I want to play. EA keeps advertising sims 4 as a game you can play your own way, but thats total bullshit, you can play how you want as long as it fits into this tiny safe world where all your sims love each other and nothing bad ever happens. The Sims 4 is just a building and avatar creation simulator to me, and if I actually want to create a story then I play 3.

@@reeceyb505 Sims 4 had the potential to be truly groundbreaking, to take some of the best parts of the past games and really capitalize on them, but sadly that isn't the game we got. Even the premades and the associated lore are handled _so_ lazily in 4. Take the Calientes for instance, they went from truly mysterious and intriguing in 2 to being the same as _every other sim_ in 4. Where they had a diverse background in 2 (checking their family tree implies Spanish, Arabic and even *Alien* ancestry), they're whitewashed in 4 (and have a completely different mother for some reason #Justice4Nighat). Where they actually had plot relevance in 2 (for as vague as the plot was), they're just sort of there in 4 and have literally no accompanying backstory, just like everyone else. It's like the current team has no knowledge of or respect for the past games or the simmers who fell in love with them.

We all knew Sims 4's trait situation was bad compared to 3 but seeing the numbers really drives the point home. Having been a fan since the original and seeing just how varied and unique sims were from one another even in 2 when we were still using personality points, it really bugs me that the team seems so content to keep shafting traits and aspirations by 1. failing to include new ones in so many packs and 2. giving us watered down traits and tutorial aspirations that do next to nothing to differentiate one sim from the next. As always, spot on criticism in this vid, and I can only hope the team takes some of the community's suggestions to heart.

The Sims is a big comfort game to me, to the point where my Origin counts me as having over 2k hours on TS4, probably closer to 3k now. And, granted, no wonder I'm bored with the game with the amount of hours I have on it, but I've never felt bored in other iterations of the franchise. I got bored enough to start redoing all my townies and their houses and essentially I'm on the way of making a save file for myself. I'm not a youtuber. I got no one to share this with. But I'm just! That! Bored! I basically don't play anymore, I just build until I'm bored out of my mind again. Thing is: I'm not a builder. I'm a family player. But there's so little content, so little to do in gameplay, that at this point I'm resorting to desperate measures to make the game interesting again Also most of the older sims are ugly as all hell but that's just how it be in The Sims. Real talk, after realizing how overpowered spellcasters were I basically didn't play with them at all for like a month before I felt compelled to even try. Spent like 15 minutes of gameplay with one and was already like "I think I got the gist of this" and immediately stopped playing that family. I'm honestly considering re-buying TS3 on Steam at this point :( The devs implying that they're not focusing on family gameplay is heartbreaking to me, because that's what I enjoy playing most. Kids have no new aspirations and, really, no new, unrecycled content, since release. I'm so, so bored, and I miss having fun with my comfort game. The Sims is the one game that makes me want to dust off my editing skills and my old mic, just so I can make videos on this kind of situation. I feel so sad that a franchise I love so much just becomes so boring after only a few hours of gameplay :(

There's just so much content. Granted, there's also lag and some bugs, but at the end of the day, I'd always buy TS3 again with all its packs (except Katy Perry, the only one I currently don't have and don't miss) before even thinking about spending a penny on TS4. The Sims 3 community is also still thriving, pumping out new exciting custom worlds for you to play in -- a feature I'd severely miss in TS4. Honestly one of the worst parts about Sims 4 Aspiration Traits is they don't... really do anything. Completing the Painting Aspiration makes it easier to manipulate emotions, but so do the Mischief and Mixologist Aspirations; painting is just significantly faster. Archaeology? Confident and Flirty in museums, the two easiest emotions to get into and the hardest to get out of. Beach Bum? Literally just Carefree. I can't remember all the familial ones but I think they effect skill gains--either your own or your child(ren)'s. Fishing Aspiration just doubles what Fishing and Loves the Outdoors already do (reduce tension quicker while fishing). Outdoor Enthusiast is *stupidly hard to complete* but is also just a glorified version of Loves the Outdoors. Traits that clash don't really do anything either. Having a Good and Evil Sim in the same room will give them buffs for a bit and it's just *weird* that a Good Sim would relish in death, no matter how much they disliked another Sim. Cat Lover and Dog Lover don't argue over which is better (which is good, but also... have you ever had a real life Dogs Only and Cats Only person in the same room and watched them argue.) A romantic sim married to an un-flirty sim, consistently negative relationship gain when affection is shown *even though they're married*. If a child/teen Sim rolls the Loner trait, they have a chance to trigger the Stranger Danger buff around family members if there's a new member or their relationship isn't high enough with a member they've known since they were a baby. I'll admit I skipped Sims 3 because Life Happened and I don't think I have a computer that could run it now but the little bit I remember just about Sims 2 and the *smallest* bit I've played of Sims 3... it's... very lackluster and just makes me question a lot of things. IDK this video just reminded me that Sims 4 makes me sad, especially for all the people that paid full price for everything;;;;

Rants can often be valid but lacking in objectivity. What's so unusual about the romantic/unflirty combo? Simply being *married* doesn't mean people must be gaining affection for each other (especially IRL). Conflicting personalities and unhappy marriages exist in our world so why not theirs? Since people so often reminisce about realistic emotions in past Sims games, shouldn't this be considered a plus?

"Just play Sims 3 then!" Well, I would, but I can't. The lagging is insane, it takes forever to load and it's soooooo buggy. If EA can only make either a game that's fun but barely playable or one that's playable but barely any fun... I mean, with all the money they pressed out of the Sims community over the years, you'd think they'd be able to make a game that's both fun and can be played on a normal computer, but I guess not... I really dislike how all of my Sims in 4 feel the same, they have no personality. In 3 I often randomized my sim's traits, because that gave me such unique and interesting sims that I never would have chosen by myself, even bad traits weren't really bad, because they added flavour and conflict and made things more interesting. In 4, I don't really bother with traits, because it doesn't really change anything. The things that are changed by the traits are mostly just annoying, like the random mood swings, so I only pick the most inconsequential traits. Sims 4's gameplay isn't really optimal for playing with personalities in mind, it's more like achievement-hunting than actual gameplay.

I really like the Sims 4 but wow, yeah, the lack of traits is SUCH a huge disappointment. The worst part is that they seem to neglect adding new traits when it would have made a lot of sense, and when they DO add traits it's nothing that anyone wanted. Island Living came with 2 traits, both of which are HIGHLY specific to certain locations. Just "is your Sim part of Sulani culture" or "does your Sim really like swimming?" Both of those are so specific and not relevant to a lot of situations. One of which isn't going to come up at all unless you live in a certain world! Then Discover University comes out and it's like, oh this is a great chance for some traits! For example, maybe a Socially Awkward trait like how Sims 3's University Life had, that might affect your Sim's dorm living. How many traits did Discover University give us? A big fat ZERO! It makes no sense to me.

Unpopular opinion: I really appreciate that they’re releasing fewer, but better, features instead of throwing everything into a pack and calling it a day. For example, we got Vampires, Witches, Faires, Werewolves, and Zombies with the Sims 3 Supernatural. Seems cool but they were all bugged to the point of being unplayable and there wasn’t a lot you could do with them. You were either a witch or you weren’t and there wasn’t really a “becoming magical” process. In the Sims 4, Vampires and Realm of Magic are two seperate Game Packs, but both offer a very flushed out system for their occult. To be clear, this is a cash grab on EA’s part, but at least they’re making something fun and playable. Another good example is fame, which was a feature of Late Night. Fame sucked in the Sims 3. It was only annoying, there was zero nuisance behind it, and it never went away. Get Famous introduces a much more involved fame system that is, IMHO, quite fun to play with. When it gets annoying, you can become not famous. In the Sims 3, when you got sick of being famous, you had to nuke the whole save file because you literally could not become unfamous. I think the primary difference between the Sims 3 and the Sims 4 is that the Sims 3 threw so much stuff into each pack that it didn’t matter if half of it was broken garbage. The Sims 4 gives us way less per pack, so when aspects don’t work, it’s a lot more noticable. That and people looking at the Sims 3 with rose colored glasses.

@@themapoe It's great that you're so optimistic about TS4, but your contentment is seriously misplaced. We should not be paying $40 for 2-3 hours of new gameplay. That is *not enough*. And you shouldn't be forced to completely rely on your imagination because the game itself is shallow. Yes, it's an RPG and your imagination is essential, but not to the point that you're doing *all* the work. TS4 has next to no story-building. Everything feels like a cardboard cutout. Yes, we have more in-depth celebrities and vampires, but at what cost? We shouldn't have to sacrifice content for depth. We shouldn't have to be content with our money being essentially swindled because they finally added an RPG aspect that *we had to buy.* The game is still shallow. The dlc is still boring. I'll spend my $40 on a game worth the price, like, say, The Witcher 3. Compare that game to any of the TS4 expansions and you'll open your eyes to how they're a waste of money.

This is one of the reason why Sims 3 is always going to be my number 1 favorite Sims game. The one thing that really annoys me with the Sims 4 traits is that you have a cat lovers or a dog lovers traits. But there is no trait for if you are both a dog and cat lover trait. With Sims 3 you had a trait that was like that called Animal Lovers. Just like in Sims 3 you can have up to 5 traits for your sim. Or 6 traits if you have the University ep. What a perfect time for this video to come out! After playing TS2 & TS3 a lot again these past few weeks I realized that the lack of Wants/Whims in TS4 is definitely one of its biggest flaws in terms of basic gameplay - along with everything mentioned here with traits! I haven't touched TS4 in months because I just get bored after playing for an hour or two. Have some downtime during gameplay? Might as well just have them sit on the couch until they need to go to work, as opposed to working on a hobby/skill because they rolled a want (while also developing some personal characteristics). There's just no motivation from the game to give the player any sense of direction, if I want to ignore it I will, just like I did in the past. IMO the TS4's only solid strength is Build Mode - If TS5 has this level of build quality, and gives the sims 'purpose' I'd be satisfied....for a while at least haha

The more I play Sims 4, the more bored I grow with it. I've thought about spending money (I got the game when it was free) on packs to give me SOMETHING more to do besides climb the career ladder over and over again, or trying to vary up my playstyle, but it all ends up the same. I even made an evil sim to go down mischief and... its disappointingly easy. I expected the sim to make everyone hate her, but everything she does still builds relationship (and when you need to declare an enemy, its trivially easy to do: just get in a fight and then boom you're done). Its also really sad that an Adult mod does a better job of making sim relationships more difficult to raise and more interesting to play out. You can't just spam a handful of interactions and have a BFF in one day (seriously, I watched someone's LP and that was all it took and I was shocked because I'd grown so used to playing with mods). Or that it takes another Mod to make the emotional system less gamey and you actually need to plan out your sims' day better because you know you'll be stuck in that mood longer (and not having to worry about your room score is strangely liberating). The game is fun, but it's just not fulfilling like previous entries. I still have Sims 2 and 3 on my machine and I've been thinking about giving them a fresh spin. Sims 4 is just... terribly dull. Especially if you have only the base game. Sims 2 has been my favorite of the franchise and I'm sort of at the point where I wish Sims 4 was more like Sims 2. Give me big lifetime wants. Give me wants and fears that matter and reflect my traits. Give me rewards that dont suck (seriously, emotion potions? When its trivially easy to change emotions? Come on.).

One of my sims in the Sims 3 right now has the loner trait, which is similar in both Sims 3 and Sims 4, but in the Sims 3 she is bad in crowds (rather than just getting a stressed moodlet whenever a stranger is nearby), she'll dip from groups if they get too large, she doesn't like parties and when she's around too many people she'll often roll a want to be alone for a while. It's way more interesting than the Sims 4 "stressed around strangers happy when alone" thing. She also has brooding, which I kinda picked to fill out 5 but it's become one of my favourites. She was recently falsely accused of fighting someone as a celebrity and lost a friend due to the relationship hit, and her social need PLUMMETED to its lowest value and she started rolling wants to brood for X amount of hours. It made her feel much more distinct from her party animal husband who loves to be around people. Honestly, amount of traits is one thing but their depth (or lack thereof) is the real offender.

I feel like this, along with most problems, can be attributed to the online origins of the Sims 4. My theory is that since it was supposed to be an MMO, they deemed traits to be insignificant as the player would be imbuing a personality into the sim as they interacted with other players' sims. This doesn't explain why we aren't getting more in depth traits in DLC, though.

Oh, I don´t hate sims 4, but it lacks so much depth in gameplay. It´s a shame if compared to the others. And besides that, some traits don´t even alter for real the GP. For example: being furious. They get furious and sometimes they react negatively to some other sim or they "poop furiously", which is the same thing as "poop" normally, but with different names. The animations are soooo repetitive, they lack more personality.

The most ridiculous thing is that when Sims 4 came out, EA were saying that the feelings and traits system would made unique Sims, with unpredictable personalities. The reality was the opposite... For those kind of details is that Sims 3 is my favourite game.

4 was the first main-series Sims game that I played for any meaningful amount of time, I poured hours into it but just kept getting bored of my Sims so I'd make another family, etc. I bought 3 a few months ago and was just absolutely blown away with not just how much you can really customize your Sim's looks in CAS, but the sheer amount of traits that came with the base game and Late Night alone. I was *even more* blown away during gameplay when I saw that the traits actually did something and made the Sims unique. After just a few hours of playing 3 I realized just how much I'd been missing while playing 4, and I basically made the switch to 3 being my main Sims game and 4 just being a sandbox I play around in for about an hour and then leave.

I was thinking a lot about that and, above all problems the sims 4 has, what affects more the gameplay is the fact that the sims life are based on EMOTIONS, not in TRAITS. So, it doesn't matter what traits you have, because if you get a buff (of happines for example) strong enough, your sim can overcome anything that his 'personality' had imposed. It makes the sims previsible, but also emotionally unstable, because some buffs just come. Maybe the simpler emotions are(like TS3 positive/negative sistem), the more depth and impact the traits have (since they can take your sim up or down).

I would completely forgive the Sims for all the shortcomings if they made an enhancer and decreaser trait for each of the skills introduced in the game as a final stuff pack before moving onto Sims 5. If people don't have a certain expansion pack that introduced a certain skill include some base game interactions so it's not completely useless- like archeology can want to visit museums and view statues.

one thing sims 3 also had that i liked was the potential 3 extra trait slots you could earn through maxing out each one of university life's social groups affinities, i think 4 could benefit from something like that even if, or perhaps specifically, the potential rewardable traits were dependant on the affinity you maxed, it wouldn't even need to be based just on social groups either

Like in this video, the fact that unlucky means you don't die from accidents was complete news to me. Sims 3 had so much depth and replay value that even went beyond the open world, it still amazes me to this day and there's no reason there should have been quite as many compromises when it came to Sims 4. Like, adding new and more unique traits doesn't contribute to lag or loading times so why exclude it?

I'm starting to think we need TS5 to take a whole new approach to personalities, honestly. Neither of these trait systems make that much sense to me for a realistic life simulator, because they mix actual personality aspects with random quirks, hobbies, or even physical attributes (like the light sleeper etc. in TS3). I would like something like the point distribution from TS2 to return, so that every Sim could have a stance on maybe 8-10 basic issues, I think a 3 point scale for each would be enough: are you a loner, extrovert, on in between. Are you a clean freak, a slob, or neutral. Rational, spiritual, or in the middle. Love children/neutral/hate children. And so on. Those should influence autonomous behavior and emotions the most. Simpler quirks (e.g. hypochondriac, bad luck, vegetarian, afraid of nudity...) and talent/ethusiasm for activities should be 2 whole other systems separate from that, you should be able to pick those in CAS but also earn more throrough your life, and if they ever wanted to add something resembling mental illnesses - that should be another different slot, not take up the place of a trait. Traits are just not enough to make characters unique in my opinion, whether there are 20 or 200. I always add more specific characteristics to my Sims in my head that I have to keep track of while I play them, but to be honest, I do that in TS3 and TS2 too.
@dallyink7412
@dallyink7412 4 года назад
TS2 was actually very close even aside from the points system. Hobbies developed by doing them instead of taking up a trait slot, other interests grew through magazines and they could even use them to influence conversations (with unique thought bubbles and animations) instead of talking about random irrelevant things. Of course they threw that out like many things since that requires a lot of effort and knowledge of how to design a compelling video game instead of a $60 dollhouse.

@JW-bo3ql 4 года назад
I'd guess that making more traits would be a great selling point to expansion packs. One thing that could be fun would be a pack that enables us to create compatible and incompatible sims -- two sims with traits like "pedantic" might get high social need from talking to each other but have a high chance of getting angry from it, while a trait like "empathetic" might enable a sim to catch moods from other sims while lowering those sims's negative emotions or improving positive ones. There could be traits like "intimidating" and "timid," "stubborn" and "flexible," and so on. The point of this would be that social events like parties would have more variability -- are people going to get in fights or fall in love? If there are arguments, who wins? Someone will be happy and someone else will be angry or embarrassed. In the case of physical fights, there could be traits that make winning or losing them more likely. There could also be traits making a sim more likely to fall in love with another sim: something like "attracted to nice guys/gals" versus "attracted to bad boys/girls" and "birds of a feather" versus "opposites attract." SO much possibility ... and people would pay good money for that...

This video laid out all the traits issues wonderfully. I couldn't agree more. I think if the developers acknowledged that they messed up doing emotion based, maybe we could be at peace and look to the future with hope. But for now we're gonna get our knitting pack, a new skill with it, some new things.... My sloppy sim and neat sim will still act the same. They will get along as if they have similar traits because not even oppsoite traits cause conflicts.... Only the inspiring decor making them want to do the same thing, like paint or knit. At leat the building/decorating is good!

I do really miss having more traits to play with. As you say in the video, all the sims pretty much feel like it's the same sim you are playing generation after generation, even when you pick different traits. And it's so easy as well. Sims 3 had a lot more challenge since the traits did so much on the behaviour of the sim.

I miss the Sims 3 so much, but it is glitchy, and I got really sick of my game constantly breaking with no mods or CC or anything. Sims 4 runs a lot better, but is a lot less fun, the characters feel like they have no personality, and this video really highlights why. The Whims system is not as good as the aspirations system. There is less content overall. I like playing with kids and families and Generations for Sims 3 was an amazing expansion, but the Parenting and Toddler packs only add to the game what I feel like should have been included at base.

Speaking of emotional traits - my example. I have a sim who has the "self-assured" trait cause I thought it suited his "personality" (guess this personality only exists in my head afterall 🙄). All it does is giving quite long-lasting and random "confident" emotion buffs to him, they're quite useless for his work as a detective. I already started to think this trait would be way more useful for his brother who works as an actor. But I'm kinda happy his brother doesn't have this trait cause I actually have to work to get him in the right mood for learning acting.
