Even for bad teams, the start of a new season is supposed to bring with it renewed hope. Well, the Detroit Pistons didn't get the memo.

Cade played his best when Bojan Bogdanović was playing. The main issue is the spacing honestly. Detroit has no spacing to help Cade out, which is definitely translating on the floor. They need to get rid of some of those bigs, let Ivey and Sasser have more of a role than Killian Hayes, and get more shooting going forward.

Cade's poor efficiency from the field is the direct result of the Pistons having no competent secondary shot creator and bad spacing. They need Bojan Bogdanovic back. Moreover, I do concede that trading for Bagley and Wiseman were both really poor decisions.

Cade is double or triple teamed every possession because he has no space around him. As a pistons fan, it's so hard to watch him try and do everything by himself because when he moves the ball - the rest of the team cant do anything with it. He needs Bojan back, or someone else that can take the scoring load off of his shoulders. I think there is an efficient 25 ppg scorer in there, but every shot he takes right now is smothered because there isnt another scoring threat on the floor. Pistons are young with injured vets too, so they make reallt dumb plays. I just hope Troy Weaver can construct a competent roster around cade soon. I know lots of detroit fans feel like the pistons are gonna make an agressive move for Devin Booker in the next couple of years since we are his hometown team, and we have his old coach. If that somehow happens, then i think hed be the perfect guard to open up cades game. Right now everything is too cluttered, and everybody us a bum on offense outside of Cade
@milesallen5590
@milesallen5590 6 месяцев назад
I agree just wish he would play the players that can actually shoot. Killian should be the last guard on the depth chart. Marcus should get almost 20 minutes every game. I think him and Cade on the court makes it hard for the defense. Haven’t seen that interaction of a lineup very often. It’s a joke to be honest. The games are really hard to watch. Bojan is a great scorer and the starting lineup clearly misses him. I would say out of the 17 wins last year Bojan was single handily the reason for at the very least 10 of those games. Cade is legit just wish he had shooting around him so he can show it. Booker took a couple years to get it right too look at him now.

The cade hate is pretty unwarranted. This roster is a joke. He's surrounded by non-shooters and his only good big man for pick and roll missed several games this season. He also missed most of his second season so this is basically his second season in terms of development. Plenty of star players struggled in their first couple seasons not sure why cade is getting bashed for it lol. And they just got monty who is trying to establish a brand new system of offense with a bad roster around cade. I'd give it at least another season before writing cade off...

A major reason for the Pistons’ ineptitude-and not just during THIS rebuild but throughout the past 15 years-is their propensity for trying to make role players and bench guys into franchise cornerstones. The first time they made that mistake was with Rodney Stuckey. Same happened with KCP, then with Stanley Johnson and Luke Kennard. It looks like they’re finally realizing it with Killian Hayes (it only took 3 years of historically inept shooting numbers and 10 consecutive losses in year 4 before they removed him from the starting lineup, so give them credit). But the same problem still applies to Isaiah Stewart, whom they recently signed to 4 year extension with a year still remaining on his rookie deal. He’s started at PF every game this season for us in spite of his obvious offensive limitations and lack of athleticism to compensate. He’s nothing more than a backup small ball 5, but leave it to the Pistons to think so long as a guy “hustles” he deserves to be a starter in this league. Entire organization is a dumpster fire.
@Jrseydevil
@Jrseydevil 6 месяцев назад
He’s been by far the best shooter on the team, the second best defender and an above average offensive rebounder. Hes getting paid like 12 mill a year starting next year. Thats an absolute steal for someone who can actually space the floor, get boards, play average to good defense and actually works hard.
@LogicOverEmotion
@LogicOverEmotion 6 месяцев назад
@@Jrseydevil 16 mill a year for a guy who offers you nothing on offense other than the ability to make a wide open 3 (and for a bad team, no less) is NOT a “steal”. It’s not a bad deal, per se, given the inflation of NBA contracts these days. But for 12 points and 7 rebounds in 30+ min a night, it’s hard to make the argument that his contract is a positive. His ceiling in this league is a backup small ball 5. He’s in year 4 and his only improvement is his 3P%, and it’s still on a relatively low volume. He still has no post game, can’t create his own shot/offense, cannot set a screen effectively (which is why in spite of his solid 3P% the Pistons still never use him in the pick and roll), and he sorely lacks the size and athleticism to be a rim runner or a lob thread like Duren. Not to mention his improvements as a shooter still has a minimal effect on the Pistons’ offense because he’s incapable of putting the ball on the floor when defenses close out on him. He just shovels it off to his nearest teammate which immediately stagnates the offense and kills whatever semblance of competent spacing his shooting would theoretically create. And his defense isn’t good. It’s average. He doesn’t have the lateral quickness to consistently keep up with opposing wings or PFs and he lacks the size and leaping ability to consistently disrupt shots around the basket. He’s averaging 1 “stock” (steals + blocks) per game and ranks 7th on the Pistons in defensive rating. Now I’m not saying he’s a bad player by any means. If utilized properly Stew would be a solid weapon. Coming off the bench he could get physical with opposing reserves, stretch the floor a bit, and spark the unit with his hustle and “antics” (for lack of a better term). That’s a role he’d likely hold for any team in the league. But this comes back to my point about why the Pistons remain in NBA purgatory. They look at Stew’s hustle and ignore his actual skill set (or lack there of) and fail to realize that while his floor remains reasonably high, his ceiling is conversely quite low. There’s not a single other team in the league that Stew would start for and that includes other rebuilding franchises.

@@Jrseydevilactually he is still a below average starter. Teams leave him open still so he is free to shoot with no gravity. If he was really a shooter or looked at as a threat he would be covered.. Also if he is guarded he cant create his own shot.Stew also can't guard Stretch bigs or small ball 4s. In a word where Stew is the second leading scorer the team will go 2-20. Ausar is out reb him ever since he has been starting. Stew also isn't an average defender. In no year was he an great defender. He doesn't even average a block and a steal per game as a big. So stop capping for defense. What offense does Stew have?? Teams don't respect his shot at all. So our team is playing 3 on 5. Dude averages 12 ppg and is our teams second leading scorer. If we being real Cade is asked to do too much and he often tires out by the 4th quarter and that’s when the problems come. Realistically they have to start Ivey over Killian Hayes and move Cade to the 2 guard so that way they can alternate ball handling duties.

As someone who with pain has watched every Pistons game this season, I will explain the problem with Cade. The staff treats him as a finished product and a superstar and not someone who still has ways to go. He turns the ball over on a very high percentage because he cannot pass it. Why can't he pass it? Because he is being guarde by 5 players. This team has no spacing, nobody respects any of the other 4 players bar Cade, and he is asked to do everything. Cade is totally fine, the team is ass. Ausar will be a great defender, but he has no offensive game. The same goes for Killian. Stew has no shot selection at all, sometimess he will pass up a wide open 3 for a drive, and sometimess he just shoots a 3 when 2 people happen to be next to him. Bagley is ok on offense but is a cone on defense. Wiseman is Wiseman. Jaden Ivey is in prison. Kevin Knox has been a stand out performer for this team. Kevin knox was traded from the Pistons last deadline and was without a team this season until we picked him up. This franchise seems 5 years away fron being 5 years away from any relevance. We need a trade ASAP.

A good portion of it is health and just improved coaching. Some of it is also getting a couple of mid tier free agents to sign as well. Something like what Houston did. Ever since that trade for Iverson, Detroit has lost one thing: Culture. Like the grit n grind grizzlies, Detroit was known for its defensive culture, from the badboys to the 04 pistons, they were packs of wild dogs that gave nightmares to opposing teams. They lost that after the badboys era but after acquiring Ben Wallace in the early 2000s, they finally got that culture back. Billups was the perfect leader for that squad and the icing on the cake was rasheed who embodied their heart. They need those type of players to get back on track because the pistons right now are just lost, and that's being generous. Duren can fit that defensive mold and Cade can be their leader, depending on his mindset and drive to be a winner. As of now the front office doesn't even know what culture they want moving forward.

It’s time for that OUTDATED draft lottery to go. As the worst team in the NBA, the Pistons had no business picking 5th in the last two drafts. In the 2022 and 2023 drafts, the Pistons missed out on two generational centers in Chet and Wemby. Compare that to the NFL and MLB, the worst teams are automatically picking 1 and 2 in the next drafts. Relying on a lottery ball for the bottom feeders is utterly ridiculous in this exclusively “One-and-Done” era. It typically takes these kids 5 to 7 years to mature and compete at a high level. Therefore, more assurances are required.

The Detroit Pistons didn't get a memo; they got a schedule that guaranteed they'd be in a hole to start the season.

This is not cade fault...who ever did this piece... doesn't watch the Pistons.. first Cade is not a wing...his pg...that's not playing the point at all...they named 4 guards..that plays point.. but none of them can shoot..but sasser (who shoots too much ) same as the rookie that's good on defense..the coach right now is horrible (the plays🤦)We got Duren ,Cade and Ivey and a bunch of pieces that don't fit...ps and we under sized...all ur players the same height 💯🤷

Is Cade a bust as a team leader? He can get his stats but he is not making the team around him better.

How do you MEASURE improvement, when a team has the toughest schedule? It's not like some other team has a better record with the same schedule.

When the NBA riggs the draft its a rebuild around getting whatever pick you get. They will probably have the worst record and probably wont get the number 1 pick still. Record has been worst 3 and they have had two number 5 picks, a 1, and a 7. It is what it is.

They should copy what Houston are doing. Sign vets for investment to your young guys and they will teach them how to win.

Pistons are in a tough position because they have too many terrible young players like Hayes and wiseman so you won’t get any value from them. Their promising young players are good but the guards can’t play defense and the forwards/big men can’t play offense. Really hope Monty can figure this out

wait for bojan and put him at shooting guard.stewart needs to loose weight.bagley needs to improve on defense and timing blocking shots then start him over stewart. as power forward becsuse of the latter’s small height at 6’8” only.ausar needs to stay at small forward and develop his 3pt and midrange shots.

How or why Cade Cunningham is the number one pick of his draft class is way beyond me! And please give Monty Williams more time to mold this group of young prospects into a winning team.

Then who is? Jalen Green? He's also inefficient. Mobley? Barnes? Both are supporting cast players (neither could be centerpieces like Cade and Jalen could be). Sengun, possibly. Rockets probably got the true top pick in their batch in Sengun. And as a bonus, they got a not-so-shabby Jalen Green as well who would be a #7 pick if I'd be re-drafting.

Because Killian is not no penetrating guard he wont go near a lay up ivey started and was killling them with lay ups drives and dunks now you see we dont need a point just shooting when bonadovich comes back then you judge but Killian is not a nba player if you know basketball!

Cade Cunningham is just not a real guard. I am not even talking about playmaking and passing. I am talking about the turnovers. Cade absolute is a cancer in that end. The GM sucks!! He drafted mediocre players that were inconsistent and below-average offensively. Besides Duran, Ausar, and Ivey it's time to blow it up!!
