Me discussing my journey from only buying new watches to increasingly buying used watches. In my journey This includes Rolex and Omega and even Panerai.
People that know about watches know some brands you have to buy used, no matter how rich you are, is what makes sense in the price and value. Most these used watches are from watch people that either never wore them or are obsessed with keeping the piece in pristine condition, is not like used cars. the AD overprice that “Boutique experience”, example Cartier, the boutique in NYC is an experience but not worth paying extra, is throwing away money. Rolex, AP and some Pateks are better retail, everything else better off pre-own.
Ha for most of my 20 years collecting I rarely bought new. This year I bought a Cartier brand new…in order to get a favorable position at an AD. I think I paid over 50% more than I would have buying used….
When I bought my SMP on Chrono24, it was from another Canadian. On his listing, the warranty card was just legible enough for me to check the serial number on the Omega website. When it arrived, it turns out the original owner purchased it from my local AD, which I bought my Speedmaster from. For the price I purchased my Seamaster at, I saved 23% from retail.
Addendum: I had the "new from the AD" experience with my Speedmaster; I was able to buy it at retail listed price, taxes in and the experience did feel special at the time. Do I need to have that experience every single time I buy a watch? I don't think so.
Hi mate im a recent subscriber. Although i enjoy the watch vids very much i was wondering would you consider doing more car and travel vids since im a bit of a watch and car lover also love hearing about people's travels.
I don't mind buying used and enjoy the hunt, I normally do it with brands like Nomos, Longines and Seikos, 40% to 50% off is amazing and if you don't like the watch sell it with little to no lost. With Omega in the UK, I have always bought grey market as the price is the same as used or close and there are some excellent trusted London sellers. If I was based elsewhere I'd just buy used, depending on sellers and price. As you said Rolex is nice but I never met an Omega daily wearer that didn't have Rolex money and they often have a few Rolex. Collectors love Omega!
Well said Michael! If you buy one watch for life, go buy new. If you want to buy/sell/trade in as a hobby then you should buy used imo. Otherwise it is irresponsible! I also agree on the different “levels” of watches! Long Jeans is the best entry level for me. Also: meat.
buy used from trusted platforms and save money, even if you buy new, wearing it 3-4 times will pick up some hairline marks etc. also date on the card/name on the card are irrelevant cause once you put them away; you will not see them till you decide to sell your watch.

@@SteelmoonWatches Also, oddly enough, the more I wear it, the more I'm liking it 🙈 Definitely a change in philosophy living without a date, but I keep catching the hands perfectly symmetrical more often than not, and I'm slowly falling in love with it!
I started the other way. Started buying used watches. But...I discovered that I prefer new watches, knowing that I will pay significantly more. There is something about making those scratches/dings yourself.
For me it would depend on the condition now - so a pristine used for me is ok. But i would probably avoid a used piece with too many ‘significant marks’, even with big discounts. Really depends on the piece, and scarcity of the model.
