I don't have the video, but I will always have the memory. We have a Ragdoll, and while we were acclimatising him to the garden, he managed to fall in the fishpond, or at least that is all i can assume happened to get him absolutely soaked. After i'd made sure he was ok and dried him off a bit and mopped up the water off the floor, I realised that I really wished the security camera had been on to catch what happened. it wasn't and at the time I was far more concerned about checking my cat hadn't come to any harm than i was about getting my phone out. He has always been far more careful around the pond since so no repeat incidents to get on film either.

Please be careful with using tinfoil as a deterrent. I tried to use tinfoil to keep them from climbing my wallpaper, but what happened when I was in the other room is that my cats literally started eating (and swallowing) the tinfoil. That was a fun trip to the vet. Lesson learned: Don't introduce new materials in the home without testing the cats' reaction to it first.

I adopted a female cat (my first female....always had males) who was being rehomed due to her owner going into an assisted living facility. I was told that she did not like wet food, but I incorporated the wet food into her daily feedings immediately. She absolutely loves it, and she is verbal about it also! She didn't know what a scratching post or pad was, but after being with me for four months, she is becoming more interactive and being more "cat." I agree with your disgust of people who frighten cats!

I had a couple of cats who also hated closed doors, especially my bedroom door. Which was a problem growing up as I always had to give up my bedroom when my parents had guests stay over. The cats would meow and scratch at my door. My mother would have to ask the guests to leave the door open a few inches at night. Problem solved. 👍🏻🐾🐈🐈‍⬛ When I adopted my cat, she was 4 years old and only knew two other humans (her rescuers). I wait three weeks before attempting to pet her. It was hard to resist, but I did. Then, one day I was sitting on my bed reading. All of the sudden, she nestled right against me and I petted her gently. Her purr motor started, she drooled and gave me a tiny love bite (no skin-piercing)! She was over stimulated. But after that, it was easy. ☺️ I never regretted letting things be on her terms; I know she appreciated it and our bond was strong. RIP Baby girl🐈‍⬛❤

Some cats get used to being held if you walk around the house and let them sniff at light switches, picture frames on the walls, and other things they can't reach. While doing this, let your cat's back paws sit on your hand so they can jump off without a struggle, with the front paws resting on your shoulder. Some eventually link being held with an enjoyable experience and will allow you to hold them more often.

He loves hunting bugs when outside on leash, but during the winter, that doesn't work so well. Also, he seems to prefer to wrestle - and has a distinct advantage - but she is starting to get fed up. Furthermore, he is more nervous and cautious than she is and needs more coaxing to try new things but she is silly enough to go on hunger strike if she feels ignored. Are these injections you are doing at home? I put a bowl of food or squeeze one of those tube treats into a bowl, have my cat start licking away, and then give the injection while he's distracted. You can also give a treat after the injection if that works better. The tube treats are nice because my cats really love them so my cat has no idea and doesn't care he's getting a shot when he's licking on one of those. It makes the injection a more positive experience for the cat in his mind, and so forgiveness is more quickly and more easily earned back. I hope that helps you!

You have to find someone who is used to being around feral/stray cats. The three rules are space, patience and everything on their terms. A cat will be ok with food and shelter, eventually they might grow to trust enough to allow touch, but you have to be experienced enough to do affection on their terms. Also basic grooming is something that can be done too, again that's down to experience. Every stray I have been caretaker to likes to be brushed - eventually. Anyhow find someone who understands how ferals work and your fur baby will be fine. That's my advice. Good luck. ❤

I had a cat who hated and was terrified of others in the house, he would only relax around me and my partner were fine. He woudd hide, refuse to be in the same room as strangers, wouldnt eat if a stranger was in the house etc. We got him at 3 years old, he is now 4. Not sure if you have tried or could try something similar but this is what we did for him. We had my mum come over once a week to start by trying to gove treats to him, if he wouldnt take them, then she would leave them out for him to come get when he had gone. She wouldnt try to pet him, didnt try to talk to him and just used to chat to me so he got used to other voices in the house. When he started to get used to her coming round regularly she would ignore him when he eventually started to come out of hiding and just let him come to her in his terms. Little by little started to come into the same room as her, eat in front of her etc. We went on holiday and he even jumped up on her lap for a bit of fuss. This process took 7 months to get where we are now, but he now can deal with others in the house, he still prefers not to be in the same room but he actually does walk past them, eats with others in the house.

Also, as far as Grace is concerned, she doesn't ever hide or anything like that. She is very confident in a lot of ways. She knows this is her house, and she owns it, lol. Where the problems come in is if someone other than me or my husband gets to close or they try to touch her, she will lash out and slap or hiss. My daughter works as my in home care provider and is here almost every day for the past couple of years, and she still hasn't warned up to her. She gives her treats and food, and it hasn't helped. With me and my husband, she is totally different. She loves to sleep on me and cuddle. When I lay on the couch, she will lay next to me on her back with my arm around her and fall asleep to the point of dreaming. At this point, I would like someone else to be able to get within a few inches without getting smacked by her. As far as finding someone who's good with feral cats. That's easier said than done. In case anyone was wondering? Yes, she is a gray tortoiseshell, lol.

My mom couldn’t understand why she did it and she was also allergic to cats (she found out after moving to the US). However, Kitty seemed to tolerate me when I wanted to play with her. There was a time I was crying and the more I did, our cat yowled at my mom and scratches her, as if she was trying to get her to do something to calm me down. I figured it could be because of the cat’s nature around babies or the body scent I had, since I shared a bit of DNA from my dad.

Hi, watched you for many years. Had cats all my life, but I wanted to comment on a video I watched a few days ago. You specifically mentioned cat belly rubs. I wanted to tell someone, who will know how special this is, about my cat. I adopted Shadow in 2017. Visited him a few times while waiting for home inspection etc to adopt. Finally got to bring him home. He was the most adorable, social, friendly & gentle cat. Even the vets loved him, he was so gentle. Anyway, my point is, the 1st day I had him, he was laying on me & turned belly up. I was cautious, I know most cats don’t like belly rubs. But, he stayed lying on his back, stretching his legs & looking at me, so, I tried stroking his belly. He loved it, purred like mad. That confirmed I had the right cat. 2019 my mother died. In a care home because of dementia. A very good home I have to say. Anyway, then covid hit. UK went into 1st lockdown. No going out, stay at home. It was very, very quiet. Shadow went outside from the start. He made it obvious, he escaped through a window in the first 2 days, but, he always stayed close. I know because whenever I called him he’d appear, meowing as he walked along the fence then ran to me. Then one night he didn’t come when I called. I believe, because of lockdown & the quiet roads, he ventured further than before. 2 days later I found out he’d died & had been discovered in a neighbours garden. Hit by a car. My beautiful boy was dead, 6 months after my mother. My comforter was gone. My heart was broken, again. Now, I’m living with my father, who also has dementia. I often think, I wish I could have a cat again, but then I realise, what I really want is my Shadow back & that’s not going to happen. Strangely, after he’d gone, a neighbours cat kept coming to my back door, peering in as if looking for him. I let him in and he spent hours at my house, loving any attention or affection. I never fed him, but he still came. He got badly injured one night in a fight & came crying at my door in the middle of the night. I let him in & went round to tell his owners, who came & got him. 10 minutes later he was crying at my door again. Of course I let him in & took care of him. Anyway, I just wanted someone to know how wonderful & special my Shadow was. His name fitted him well, he followed me everywhere. Maybe one day I’ll get to live with a cat again, who knows, I’d like to think so. I know I’ve rambled forever, I’m not sorry, I need to get this out & feel heard. I miss him, I still miss him so much it’s hard to even look at pictures of him. I don’t care if anyone reads or reacts to this, I needed to say it ❤

My cat is a rescue that has been prego before. I've noticed that when i give her belly rubs (which she LOVES!) she has similar reactions to nursing cat moms.

My cat acts very strangely toward shoes. If you live in his household, your shoes are fine. But if you are visiting, he will first sniff the shoes, then rub and roll all over the shoes, then progress to attacking and bunny kicking the shoes. I'm sure it's a scent thing, but it is hilarious to me. He accidentally bit my sister's ankle this morning while attacking her shoes when she came to visit. My sister's cat likes to hang out when she takes a shower. For some reason he doesn't care (and even likes it) when his head gets wet only. So he will stick his face under faucets to get a drink while also soaking the top of his head, and sticks his head in her shower while she's in there. 😂

My rescue older kitten is obsessed with wanting to bolt out the door. When he is successful, he runs without even looking back. I’m out of ideas as to how to break him of this. He is well fed, loved, played with, etc.

Oh I watched an episode of my cat from hell a couple of days ago about a cat that did this. Jackson had them put a cat shelf next to the door at about head height. It worked. Also a cat wand for coming back into the house, til the cat just started to jump on the shelf when the door was opening.

Thanks for the video! I've grown up with cats all my life and knew to not do certain things but never why. I now have 2 very different cats: one must be held and smooched and loves whole body stretches with belly rubs, but hates getting his nails trimmed so I only do a couple at a time when I get the chance. The other loves chin scritches and back scratches but no petting and no holding. She will move off the couch or bed if I am in physical contact with her more than she wants. She has such soft fur too...

I've got two cats--a brother and a sister, about six months apart--with very different personalities. The boy likes to be picked up, likes belly rubs, is more social to everyone, etc. The girl is more of a wallflower: doesn't like to be picked up, has very specific petting zones, only likes me, all that. It's amazing how individual they really are!

The discussion on being held (and the kitten socializing) was an eye-opener for me. My kitty was rescued and started the TNR process where they estimated her age at 3 months. She has "white coat syndrome" and is terrified of the vet and runs a fever every time she's there. (Which cost a lot to find out!). This changed when my Sr. Kitty was put to sleep. Of course my younger cat was very upset, and required a vet visit - actually 3. The first two times we were in the same room where my older cat passed. The second time, she was a little more attentive, and I could have sworn she was watching her "big sister" in that room, so asked for a different room the next time. Wow! It was amazing. She actually got out of the carrier and went over to the cat tree (in that room) and looked out the window. Best vet visit ever. Maybe her big sis told her it was ok. 🙂

Hey Jackson, have you ever done a video on long term manageable cat conditions? For instance arthritis, diabetes, FIV, blindness/deafness, amputations etc. Even kidney or heart disease can be managed somewhat. I think people panic when their cats seem ill, worry about vet bills & end up not getting care (esp. with the elderly) & I reallly, really want people to understand that picking things up early & managing them not only gives more time together but also is much cheaper than waiting for an emergency. I know you can't give medical advice but a general overview of the condition & what kinds of treatments plus how important yearly health checks are to pick up issues early

I am fascinated by the way that our animal friends reflect our own behaviours back at us. I am not a “huggy” person so neither are my cats and dogs, we share physical affection but not constantly, they know I can’t cope with that. However, I once had a beautiful Abyssinian kitten who had obviously been raised by someone who liked to carry her around. Unfortunately she came into my life at a time when I was running my own business- a boarding cattery - and had a 18 month old toddler and twin babies who were born premature. This poor cat desperately wanted me to cuddle her all the time but I just couldn’t. One of my clients really wanted a cuddly cat and after much soul searching I gave Indie to her. It was a big deal to me as she is the only pet I have ever not kept for life and I’m 60 now. I know she was happy and healthy as she would board with me when her new owners were away on holiday but I still felt guilty for giving her away just because I need my personal space.

You are so right! I have 3 cats and each one has such a different personality. Each one will allow and want something different. I have one cats that loves belly rubs and will throw her little belly out there begging for rubs... Another that hates her belly being touched. I have one that was feral who now allows me to touch her belly a bit, which really means so much to me, she is so sweet and trusting. I cannot think of one thing that my cats absolutely hate, but I do know that they love routine, routine, routine.

I got a cat because i couldn't get a dog, but i knew nothing about cats. I learned SO much (most from this channel) in just the first months to know how to live with her. One thing that became very depressing to me is how the vast majority of people don't know (or care to know) how to have a cat... Especially on the internet, where everyone else can see. Usually people deal with cats as if they are dogs, which is the HUGE problem in my opinion. I learned the difference immediately when deciding to adopt an older cat, but it also turns out that I'm a cat person. But it's so incredibly sad to me to see what most people think and do... And if I leave a comment in a video, no one seems to understand what i'm talking about, sometimes because people watching also have/had cats and do the same. Soooo many cats need homes, but so very few homes (people) seem to be good for cats... It's depressing, because i wish these people didn't have cats, which they have because dogs are more work, so they can have a cat while ignoring the fact that it's a cat... Like shouting when the cat climbed on something they were not supposed to, and thinking that if the cat ran away, it worked... And then saying they have mean cats that bite and scratch them... I wouldn't care about this (they deserve) except that this also makes the cat miserable 😢

I have always been a cat person. I do like 'some dogs', but only a select few (and mainly chill dogs that are a bit more like cats!). So glad you turned out to be a 'cat person' :) I think the only secret to cats, is to let them come to you on their own terms, and be patient, especially with a rescue kitty, who will likely need a little extra time to recover from trauma (even just the trauma of the shelter). My new rescue kitty had taken six weeks to really settle into her new home (she bonded with me on third meeting before adoption). But she had quite the disruption in the four months before adoption, and four months in the pound before that. She is gradually getting more confident, and definitely is her house now.

No that’s natural. That’s because in the wild, running water is not stagnant, therefore much less likely to contain mould or bad bacteria which grow in stagnant water. Now, getting IN water is a whole other breed of cat. Lol

My cat Chaos loves when I pick her up. Starts purring and snuggles right in but when my mom visits and picks her up she waits until she’s eye level with my mom plants one paw on each cheek and then hisses in her face. Then she waits about 30 seconds to see if she’s paying attention and hisses again. That’s usually when I grab her

My Bento, the Bengal, just LOVE water!!! He opens the shower door, gets in while my husband or I are showering, takes a stroll under the shower and leaves all happy to make a puddle outside the bathroom. And EVERY time I’m doing the dishes, he sits by my ankle waiting to get his share of water dripped on top him! And this has been going on for the past 9 years!!

Great video! My cat is very skittish; he tends to be nervous and jumpy with unexpected loud noises. He doesn't like to be held. He absolutely adores me, tolerates everyone else in the house but absolutely despises any visitors that we have. He hides when there's a knock or a doorbell.
