Unfortunately, Eladrin lore no longer applies with the new 2024 5.5e system. Also, technically in the proper 5e system/lore the Eladrin can consciously choose to stay the same season.
@@Dragowolf_Rising All Races changed mechanically; those mechanics being changed, indirectly changed their lore. Certain things about how a Race did something/had something got changed. For an easier example: Mountain Dwarves since they primarily live underground & mine, they get exposed to toxic mushrooms & gases therefore, they developed poison resistance as well as higher Constitution & Strength. They also have to defend themselves from various monsters and hostile intelligent enemies from the Underdark so develop Proficiency with Weapons and Heavy Armors. BUT, now because of the mechanical changes they no longer get those innate stat increases & Proficiencies. An Eladrin example: Various seasons/types of Eladrin get certain innate abilities & stats each unique to their season. But now because of the Racial/Mechanical changes, they will no longer get those things.
Maybe you could do different of them based on tropical seasons, a wet versus a dry season for example since those are the main seasons around the equator in some areas.
I mean if you want more story ideas to use them I recommend just wholesale copying Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons. BBEG disrupts the flow of time in the form of seasons to cause chaos to feed a magic ritual, so now there are pockets of different seasons all across the land
I like this guys, they seem fun. I like the idea of the party trying to calm a fued between two spring seasonals who argue who is the better musician and threaten to level the whole town because of it.
11:50 or maybe you could do a campaign where some event happened and now you’re living in a year without summer; it just directly goes from spring to autumn. In the real world, this would probably be caused by a volcano, but given the personality of these fey creatures it might be more likely that the summer seasonal just fell asleep for the whole three months they were supposed to be around.
Omg I have a bard with the Feylost background 👀 maybe the fey who took care of her was one of these? They are musical, after all. She learned their music and their ways. Give her a few thematic spells related to the Seasonal who raised her and voila! I kinda vibe with a Hibernal. She seems like she'd be flighty but enjoy celebrations. I don't think Bards get any ice spells though, but I can't help but imagine her using snowflakes to emphasize her music.
I'm writing Vivaldi as an NPC, now. On a quest to find the four seasonals and learn from them. The transition between two could be an escort quest and the seasonals can depend on the lvl of the party. Neat.
To his credit, Josiah does point out it's a mid latitude thing in first 11 seconds. You could have fae that are more regional to allow for some new soggy fae and dusty fae.

Lots of potential with these duders, and you could localize them to your own world's regional seasons pretty easily (e.g. if you have summer thunderstorms, it's a simple swap). Thanks, DD! 💜

I wrote a short RPG based on a fantasy world where each season lasts a year and during that period, magic and monsters from different planes of existence would merge. Winter was undead and ice themed monsters. I planed on making a pseudo-undead class, but never did. Spring was fey and plant themed monsters. One of the classes were changelings, and there was an alternate variant for a changeling who has animal traits that give unique powers, but make the human forms more obviously fake. In the lore, changelings were made by elves who eat human babies that they acquire by telling humans that they can taste whether or not a baby will become evil. Elves have long tongues and throats full of retractable teeth and muscles that they can twist to grind flesh. They will save one body part of each baby (usually an eye) into a bag, and mix it with some other stuff to make a changeling. The changeling can shapeshift into different human forms, but can't change their original body part which commonly manifests as heterochromia. The animal variant comes from when animal scraps are accidently left inside the elf bags so they get fused into the body as well. I also planned on making beekeeper class, but never did. Summer was dragons and fire themed monsters. One of the classes were monks with dragon themed abilities. Fall was the least developed season. The core rules were only a page long, the rest were just classes, enemies, and lore. Every class was mostly linear, but every level would give them a selection of a few featlike or spelllike abilities. There were many other classes. All of them had at least one offensive, combat utility, social, support, and niche utility ability. Some abilities served more than one function at once. Some of them I was really proud of like occultists who could collect blood from attacking and use it to control an enemy's action to spend both of their actions. They could also sacrifice people or valuable items to summon demons. Then there was a whole list of demons with unique powers and desires that could be dealt with in different ways.
I have immediately thought of possible plotlines including the Centenials (not sure if correct spelling, don't have the book in front of me) from 2C Gaming's "Total Party Kill Bestiary". Can't recall if they're in volume 1 or 2, but they are essentially like powerful treants that embody a season and have an effect that for a certain large range around them it is always that season regardless of the time of year. The possibilities of having some of these fey with them could be an interesting addition to a world or plot.
Im gonna say it fall>summer>winter>spring. as someone who had to deal with the best and worst of all the seasons snow can suck my nuts its awful. christmas is great but snow is too damn much
My favorite season is Spring, with how fresh and green everything is, and how rainy it is. Autumn and Winter are close seconds. Not a fan of Summer, because here in Washington state, it gets hot, humid and muggy. I'm happy whenever I come across creatures like these who can DEFINITELY help me with those problem players. Imagine murder hobos making an enemy of NATURE ITSELF because they felt like robbing and/or offing one of these harolds of the seasons.
Their musical natures would go along well with the elemental wisps for Pathfinder. Unlike other elementals they go along well with other types of elementals, especially other wisps, where they make symphonies. Maybe you could cover the elemental wisps too?
As a Floridian might first thought for plot hooks was immediately an Aestival staying too long. Perhaps it is staying near the equator so people are less likely to notice that there is a localized summer. Also as a Floridian I must mention if it isn’t so hot that you have to close your eyes due to sweat dropping on them it is cloudy with a chance a of flooding.
Can you do a video and stat update of the warforged Colossus. Its a giant mech warrior, and thats pretty cool on its own. But I dont think a lot of newer players arent familiar with Ebberon, and I think it would be awesome to show some of the absurd technical marvels of House Cannith.
Imagine if a Vernal tried to claim a mage storm. Either it would affect the storm in a certain way or it would be in trouble from the huge amount of magic flowing into it.
Just an FYI but the Southern Hemisphere also has all four seasons. I only mention it because the graphic only showed the northern part of earth being highlighted.
I can see miself giving the vernals vicious mockery. I can imagen 2 vernals just spewing insults at each other so one can claim a cool thunder storm and people geting hit in the verbal crossfire
Why is the winter one called a hibernal instead of a brumal? Brumal lines up with the teminology used for the others (Aestival, Autumnal, Vernal)? I guess Hibernal also works, but Brumal isn't as recognizable as associated with sleep (which is is stated to be more of an Aestival trait).
It bothers me immensely that the CR goes in opposite order of the progression of the seasons. It makes sense, but I feel like this is something that should be encountered in chronological order.
Those aint the mid latitudes? Are they? Thats, northern but not too north, or southern but not too south. Where i am from there is jist 2 seasons, rainy and dry! So honestly i have never been too cautivated by the "magical power of seasons" since they arent all that, universal obviously, tho i would love to see some concepts around dry and rainy season from regions like my country.
For those wondering: - most of us don't get snow, so no hibernation - our years crossover in summer with winter being mid-year - autumn is kinda similar, though it's March to May and most of our native trees are evergreen so no red wash of colour - as a whole the euro-centric four seasons don't really fit and the six season system made by the first nation Australians is much better, so looks like I'm making six 'seasonals'
So I like this idea that the Faye are vibes personified. Like the redcaps that are born from the blood on the battlefield. In like your ruin keeper video. I watched AJ Pickett's Needle blights video and thought the inly way they make sense is they are created from collective trauma of being hurt by thorns. There's no reason that a plant would ever want to be a humanoid it's not advantageous for them at all. So the same goes for treefolk. Now they are supposed to be protectors of the forest but I feel like they are fae also from the feeling if awe you fet from a really big and old tree personified. This way of thinking makes the fae feel a little bit like the gods. Because need the emotions of mortals just like gods need the belief of mortals. In this seems similar to old pagan religions where nature spirits fet replaced by gods. Fae are emotion elementals. Make me think of poltergeist feeding off of people's emotions but the original poltergeist was a fae creature not a ghost.
Autumn is far away the best season and it isn't even close. Summer is the worst, winter is the second best, no spring is the second best, winter is third best. It goes autumn, spring, winter, summer. Nope, I'm changing that. It goes autumn, winter, spring, summer. Summer absolutely sucks ass
Personally not a fan of these. They don't feel like they fit the theme of their elements. Why would a fiery spirit 'prefer' naps? Fire is the most active of all four elements. It would desire action. I could see the earthern or water themed napping but not fire. Not just for the excuse of "bwah random fire suddenly!"
