I really enjoyed this episode of the pod and also I’m loving the in person episodes more than the ones the previous ones where you’re doing it over a video call, the in person episodes since you’ve started the euros is so much better, you bounce off each other better and the jokes are so much better too, can’t wait to watch more in person episodes of the pod
People allegedly support free speech, until a footballer voices their opinion. Politics is in football whether we like it or not. Politics is about life, and football is a part of life.
@@Edward-cv2gw A footballer, which is what I referred to, is a private citizen and is afforded the right to free speech. The Rest is Football is a private entity, and similarly has the right to invite whichever guests they want, to voice whatever opinions they may have. Nigel Farage as a private citizen has the right to free speech, and very much uses it. Now stop being such a soppy tart.
@@TC8787-yq7og Farage has won two national elections to be fair. He also hasn't lead to the unnecessary death of thousands either which is always a bonus.
"Free speech" is bought. The most wealthy monopolised free speech. The same people who preach it want people in prison for anti-genocide marches in the UK
I hereby apply for a vacancy as a presenter to be the fourth memeber of the team. I can talk football and will happily use my vast expertise to cook while we live in an appartment during the Euros!
Hi gentlemen, I see all the negative comments here because you dare to talk about anything other than football. Just wanted to let you know that it's precisely because you speak up for things that matter to you that I subscribe here. Keep it up!
He's still the byword for pure skill in my house. Maradona was stronger, Messi more adept at dribbling, CR7 had more tenacity and longevity, but Pele could do everything, left, right, header, long shot, trapping, passing, the complete player. Stick Pele at Real Madrid and he would still be a record holder.
Stop hyperventilating. This is far more of a generational thing. Pele Was great but when you do not see him every week, his memory is not as central and dominant. You are watching Europeans after all.
Southgate's lack of tactical ability will be England's downfall. Even last night, England's dominance against Serbia was because Serbia sat back. Once Serbia started to play England looked lost. Southgate has no courage.
He's afraid to lose!! His decision to take Shaw looks like a huge mistake and exposes the left needlessly when options (not as good but you need a left footer playing the left back bomber role) were available. Foden is consequently exposed and has been harshly singled out in a team that retreated, as a team entire, when Kane was equally if not more so ineffective. Quarter finals will be as far as this team goes IF Southgate ploughs his usual furrow. And, as good as Rice is, he is NO RODRI, and teams with a patient style of play, with technical players that love the ball, will get through them to a very shaky backline
Very different feel to this episode and I really enjoyed it. AC has such breadth of experience and interests, he added a great dimension to the usual gang of threes
Incredible how Alastair Campbell has managed to reinvent himself as an affable middle aged man of the people and completely forgotten how he played a massive part in taking the UK into an illegal war and everything that went with it. Ho hum, let’s forget about that and listen to him talk about football. What a crazy world we live in!
There is a very easy answer - Without Southgate and with a half competent Manager , with this talented squad England would be favorites and have a very good chance of winning the tournament .
@@Edward-cv2gwthe torries also have committed war crimes in Bosnia don’t ever hear people mention that one the us uk and Australians did in the Middle East
Didn't every English football journalist & pundit say for the last 18 months that England are the no 1 favourites ??? England have yet to play their opening match and already the excuses are rolling in .....
Its the bookies that said it, pundits have been pretty clear "England are the bookies joint favourite". The reason; we gamble a lot. It drives up our odds.
Kills me to bring English politics when this podcast developed from match of the day! I watched MOFTD from Ireland my whole life. Gary/Alan/Micah aren’t stuck for guests to ask in so this is disappointing? Answer producer Harry?
the lack of a winter break will hold England back again, didnt have that problem at the world cup which is why did alright and had it not been for France could have reached the final, last night they already started to look tired
Big fan of the show. Gonna pass on this particular episode. We shouldn't normalise criminals or give them a platform. Gary in particular should be morally consistent, especially when Qatar where publically shamed on TV by Gary + BBC for there laws. So the idea Gary should be doing a podcast with a war criminal whose responsible for over 1 million deaths, with blood on his hands is rather dissapointing. This for sure wasn't Micah Richards or Alan Shearers guest. I understand they are part of the same 'The rest' podcast network & also know each other personally, having gone to the same school. Also the fact Alastair campbell was there for Gary Linekar and defended him in public when they tried to cancel him. But being morally consistent is hard, but if your not gonna do that then you shouldn't then shame a country in there biggest ever moment to make a political statement. Its not like Gary & Alastair Campbell gained a good relationship post Qatar World cup. They likely knew eachother long before them having been at the same school. Gary called out sports washing, but is doing sports washing with this particular episode.
@@TheKingOfBeansbet you cry angrily about Isreal in Palestine at the minute , yet a million people died because of people like Campbell but cause he’s linekers mate it’s alright
Consequently shouldn‘t you be missing every show? Because The Rest Is Politics, The Rest Is History and The Rest Is Entertainment all belong to Gary‘s media company.
@eleanorzissou I don't listen to Campbell podcast. Gary isn't the one whose lies led to deaths of hundreds of British soldiers, million plus Iraqis, and the inevitable rise of terrorism and ISIS.
For doing nothing he was only a spokesperson paid to talk and advise on the press that’s it he made now laws or had no say no whatsoever in what was going on stop being thick
@@willtallis5275 It's well documented that he embellished the report that convinced the media and cabinet to support the illegal war. He is as culpable as Bliar and Straw.
Southgate is the reason we nearly won the last euros and did well in a world cup. But with the players we have and the pragmatic approach Southgate is now the reason why we wont win this euros
Why invite Campbell on a football show ? He's not some harmless, neutral observer he's a very divisive figure with a lot to answer for. I don't like the way he's presented as a cuddly nice guy when he isn't.
You'll be having Blair and Bush on next! Unsubscribed because this is the last straw, can hardly bare Lineker picking his nose constantly but having Cambell on has killed it for me.
Is it that hard to believe? He grew up in England but had two Scottish parents. It’s not hard to believe that he supported Scotland like his father. He supports Burnley as that’s the team he went to watch growing up.
And also, footballers are part of a democratic society, why should they have to give up our dearly held right of free speech? You can't deny that to them, just because they are famous professional athlets!
It's important to note this man should have been imprisoned for war-crimes. He was also unelected, he was never a politician. Shameful he now has a television career.
@@iamamyb That's palpably untrue. He guided Labour Policy (even though unelected) and it was judged he played a large part in the construction of the so-called 'dodgy dossier' that helped justify the invasion of Iraq and subsequent genocide of up to a million innocent civilians. He also handled the press, to ensure they remained compliant, but even by his own admission, he was one of the key architects of New Labour policy.
Really lads - a politician who happens to be Scottish , hates the English - and is such a Commy and also killed many young men and women of the UK 🇬🇧 in a war that he lied 🤥 about , so sorry if I don’t give this one a like , and please Gary if u wanna be a political person then do it and stop trying 2 be both
It is amazing to me how Alastair Campbell has managed to reinvent himself after the Iraq war dossier. Thousands of people were unnecessarily killed as a consequence of the actions of Blair and Campbell. Both of these 2 should have been prosecuted and should have no tolerance in decent society. Campbell now appears as some sort of cuddly uncle. There are some things which are entirely unforgivable and should lead to banishment from public life.
Whst an effing hypocrite. Just to remind people he was Blair's mouthpiece & still defends the invasion of Iraq & the subsequent deaths of 2 million Iraqis. Disappointed in GL considering the stance he takes on Gaza.
Alastair Campbell is a war criminal whose actions have led to millions of deaths in Iraq. He should not be on a football podcast, he should be in The Hague. Really disappointing having him on
