Why Fighting Hwoarang Sucks 

One of the best comments, thank you brother. I know that Hwoarang isn’t top tier, and I know he can be beat, but as someone who’s just getting into to tekken coming from 2D fighters, I start to see things that I haven’t seen in other fighters. It does all come down to match up knowledge and just playing more sets against Hwoarang players. Hwoarang is a character that’s easy to make fun of and to complain about, especially to a casual/average player. But to a person who has that match up knowledge it’s a walk in the park. That’s why I don’t want people to take this to serious, this is all jokes and having fun. But I’m going to find a good Hwoarang player I can run friendlys with to learn more about the character. Than you find me the 2% missing, not abusing of flowcharts, watching and punish the enemy and you’re fucked up. Keep in mind not evry Hwoarang is equal to another, we have different play stayle and different mind, for example I’m at bushing with 86 def, fought a Hwoarang in mirror tekken king with 54 def. In your opinion who won between me and him? The real solution against Hwoarang is watch him, and lab his string, all those who start from 1 2, duck and dickjab to interrupt, train your eye on d3 4, if you duck on d3, stay low to avoid the 4 and launch him if you have a while standing that can launch. Df1 3 it’s not plus you can enter with a jab, don’t use anything else because he can powercrush mid from that, so if you do 1 jab and he goes for powercrush, def on that than punish. Uf 3 4, 2 is another string safe till the 2, but 2 is high so guess what? Duck and launch. Ps: if you see a Hwoarang not pressing at the start of the round have fear he will fuck you badly 😁

Yeah that the problem I run into is that I haven't fought him that much to even notice patterns, cause everything he does mixes together and looks the freaking same. I got actively like pay attention, not just autopilot. Like in MK and games like that, idk the moves seem slower to where I can actually see the hits. I'm new to Tekken also. I come from 2D fighters like Street fighter and MK where the moves are clearly visible lol. But yeah I just gotta play more. Get more matchup knowledge. But it's fun to complain 🤣.

Yeah, I see what you're saying. But as a non legacy player. I feel like Tekken 8 is one of the best fighting games to ever release in the modern era. No other fighting game comes even close in my opinion, especially one that's released on all platforms. I understand there's problems with it, but if I had to play one fighter for the next 10 years it would be Tekken 8. I would like to play Gran Blue but that's not on Xbox so yeah.

Yeah I just need to run into him more and study the replays and lab the things I have issues with. It's just his moves all look kinda the same so it's harder to get his moves down compare to others. Like even though Drag is op, I rather fight him cause I can actually see the moves he's throwing out and act accordingly if you know what I mean.

It should be easy for you as a Kaz, get your defense up and just block, duck and punish accordingly. Kaz vs hwo is 7-3 Kaz. I'm a hwo main, but I play Kaz too.

I mean, honestly it falls on me. I need to lab him more. But I don't think he's that bad to where he's needs to be nerfed. But that's just my opinion. I'm also not a player who's super knowledgeable about Tekken like a PhiDx. So I don't really know who needs to be nerfed unless it's super obvious like Drag.

Trust me he's a cool character. When you do it it's fun, when it's getting done to you it's not. 😂

@@cptnaizen His linearity is his downfall. Typically, stepping to his stomach side will get you out of a lot of his options due to his stance moves not tracking well.

Yeah nah this all facts, I be watching Gm and Mirio. Also Camacho. I be trying to learn. Lee is super hard. I stay dropping the misstep combos but I do see my self getting better and better. Nah bro I understand, at the end of the day it's all fun and games. I don't actually hate him, you know it's a strong word. I honestly can find things that are mad annoying about every character, even my own. But yeah I picked to rant about Hwoarang first because I see myself always having the hardest time with him. But like I said I main him in SfxT he was always a cool character to me. And he had some blender things in SfxT and my friends would complain and I'll just be laughing my ass off. I believe genuinely it’s a bit unwarranted due to how many ways we have to find out for ourselves how to counter the character and make adjustments to our approaches with characters. Asuka has 4 parries so it's easy to deal with a Hworang with her. If your playing a different character i suggest looking at some parries and evasives options they have.

Aww man, we don't want people leaving. It's not an easy game. But I feel like if you was to stick with it and not worry about your rank and just try and learn it would be easier to take when you're on a losing streak. I have to tell myself that all the time. Or I think about how pros, train for years before being anywhere near close to a good player. But if you find yourself not having fun then yeah stopping is cool. But I feel you should give it another chance.

I see what youre saying, so basically how I look at it is anything that the opponent does thats not a jab is punishable with a jab. So when you arent sure of what to use to punish a move you can always resort to your fastest move which is the jab. Now is it optimal ofc not, but a punish is a punish. Also alot of legacy players I hear them distinguish between whats "punishable" and whats "launch punishable" So as you play and lab against different characters you have to find out what moves they have that if you block it you can launch them into a full combo. But I see what you are saying when it comes to feeling like you have way to many options to choose from to use as a punish. But I realized as you play the game more and more you start to realize that you are only really using about 5-8 moves in rotation. So we have the jab, which is 10f, then we have your go to mid which is usually 12-13f, then we have the launch moves, like the hop kick, orbitals, etc, which is 99.9 percent of the time 15 frames, and a good low, which is usually if blocked always launch punishable like Bryan's snake edge. So with those moves, those are usually the starters of a string, so your jab turns into a full string etc, so Tekken just boils down to is it a low or is it a mid. And thats it. What I learned coming from 2D, is that Tekken is not a combo based game, in a 2D fighter you be thirsty to hit someone with a combo you learned in training. In Tekken is more footies, tap here, a kick there, a punch here. You arent supposed to be looking to full blown combo someone from the jump. Now if you do get a counter hit or a chance to launch then you gotta make sure you take full advantage. But thats not the objective like a Marvel Vs Cap or SF. Combos should be the last thing you lab in Tekken, and I had to drill that concept into my head. Also what ive learned crossing over is that you have to focus wayyyyy more on blocking and what your opponent is doing, instead of focusing on what you are doing. Patience is a huge thing and one of the best skills to have in tekken. You have to focus more on blocking and learning how to block more than being the agressor.

@@cptnaizen I could learn all that, or I could just play Nina like a maniacal crackhead like I been doing 🤣 Na that’s good advice bro I guess what I meant is just that like… aight bear with me, so for example -6 on block means something totally different in Tekken than it does in Street Fighter or MK. Just that in itself is a pretty big pacing difference to get used to, I’d say. Then in basically any 2D game if someone does something that’s -6 it’s either A) jab punishable or B) it’s REALLY your turn, and there’s generally 1 or 2, probably not more than 3 options you’re choosing from that you’ll do in response. Whereas in Tekken there are so many other factors that even if it’s like -10 to -15 your options, not even for punishing but just for checking them without getting blown up, can feel SO situational compared to any 2D game. So all I’m really saying is that there’s already enough adapting we as Tekken noobs are doing in terms of how the frame data affects the pacing and decision making of the game that when you have a character like Hwoarang, who I’d say is a character that can make it REALLY tough to tell when it’s your turn, it kinda feels like… the adjustment problem has gone from 3 dimensions to 4 😂 That’s how I’ve seeing it anyway

I'm complaining cause it's fun to complain, and I'm coming with a new player perspective, I'm and 2D land player, so when it comes to Tekken I'm ranting about things that maybe obvious to pros and the hardcore but it isn't to me. In SF I know the ways to counter most situations, in Tekken I'm slowly finding them out. So I'm just pointing things out from a casual lens. I know there's ways to counter Hwoarang, but I haven't played enough to find out, like one of the big problems I have with him is I don't know when a low is coming, hence all those things you mentioned goes out the window.
