I am south Indian vegetarian & 67. Diabetic since 17 years. I started 16 to 18hr fasting by skipping my break fast. Today is my fifth month. My blood sugar reduced to 145 from 250. And my tablets reduced to half. These readings are without any exercises. Some times my morning and afternoon sugar has touched to 60. And if i start my exercise and 24 hr fasting I may discontinue my tablets. My gratitude to Dr. Jasonfung. I always remember your help. I welcome your kind suggestions to reverse my insulin resistance. Thank you.

Adding 24-72 hour fasting does help much more, as it's a miracle for Autophagy (Nobel Prize). It is easier if you set your mind to it and plan in advance and keep discipline. Dr. Brad Stanfield (RU-vid) explained how he does it and why, Dr David Sinclair, so many studies.

Great video! I have always had my son eat his protein and fat first, because he has a very limited appetite, and I want these building blocks in his body before he feels full. His carbs and any treats follow, and these are easier to eat so require less appetite. After reading your book a couple years ago, I felt even better about this decision. I talked with him about the effects of sugar on the body, so he understands why we put the building blocks in our body first, and his teacher spontaneously reported that he always eats his main dish I pack for him in school before his sides. I am so joyful to know he continuously applies this, even on his own.

My father used to work in a restaurant where there are always japanese tourists eating and he noticed that they eat their meats first and their rice and beer last and he always notice that they are lean despite drinking beer and it's also common knowledge how incredible the longevity of most japanese people despite their rice prominent diet, so now I understand due to the recent studies and also I stumbled upon Jessie Inchauspe's "hacks" based on research and observations she done while wearing continuous glucose monitors that it actually indeed helps in preventing insulin spikes, I hope this knowledge spreads more, you dont even have to change your diet drastically, just have to change the order of your food and it helps a lot with preventing the long term dangers of glucose spikes, thank you Dr. Jason Fung and the rest of the health community for spreading this information for people trying to better their health, bless you people.

Yesterday, I had a tiny bit of pasta with some chicken and my blood sugar shot up to 160. Then, for dinner, I had a salad first and then I had 2 slices of pizza after the salad. My blood sugar only went up to 111. It didn’t spike so high cause I had the salad first! I was so happy to see that. Eating in this order really does make a big difference.

Salad will have no effect as leaves do not blunt the insulin release from the starchy carbs. Meat first then carbs last !
@Sjj827
@Sjj827 2 года назад
@@baz9653 False. The fiber from the vegetables will coat the inside of the intestines and prevent the glucose spike from happening. There are studies on this. Look up Jessie Inchauspé. She speaks all about this. She’s a scientist that specializes in metabolic health. You can find her videos on RU-vid having interviews with Dr Mark Hyman and other functional medicine doctors. She is also on Instagram. Also, having the salad first obviously gave me an excellent glucose reading despite eating pizza. I believe my own eyes. You don’t even need the protein. Eating fiber before the carbs is enough to blunt glucose. I drizzled olive oil on my salad, so I had the healthy fats there, as well. But it looks like you’re a body builder and body builders don’t believe in eating vegetables. So it’s typical that you would say something like that. Stop giving false information!

And don't forget to try out fasting, too! Some of the many benefits of fasting on the immune system, blood pressure, blood sugar and anti-aging, all backed up by clinical data: Thymus stem cells are regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system. Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria and viruses by the immune system. Blood pressure is quickly and dramatically lowered, which is very important for a good outcome with the current pandemic. Fasting increases nitric oxide, which has manifold postive effects like reducing arterial plaque. Weight loss from fasting only loses10% lean tissue and 90% fat compared to the typical 25% lean tissue and 75% fat lost when calorically restricting for long periods. Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body. Vitamin D plasma levels are increased, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy! Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus. It's absolutely fine for cortisol to be high while fasting, because it produces sugar from fat instead of lean tissue ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-giEDadzoErs.html The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again! When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state. It stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses. Does fasting burn muscle? In most cases no! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-teQIaU6wp2o.html Fasting can make you gain muscle faster: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-5RM8GRzsIIg.html Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which also help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. Ketones also provide an additional energy source during infection, which is critical when trying to fight off a bug. In fact you can have as much as three times the total energy available in your blood when you are in deep ketosis, or even more. It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention! Fasts from 36-96 h actually INCREASE metabolic rate! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-BeC_gIR2Z14.html Your body releases interferon which is also triggered by the body during viral attacks to shut down the replication ability of the surrounding cells and stop infections. After 72 hours or more fasted, your body actually recycles large numbers of immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire system. When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells. This kills these cells off completely. Senescent cells are responsible for the effects of aging and are the root cause of the development of cancer. If it were possible to destroy them all it would completely stop aging and cancer. That is not possible but fasting can help limit these effects by killing off many of the affected cells and limiting the future effects of aging. Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth, helping a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers. In fact, the biochemical precursor to BDNF is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting. Autophagy induced by fasting even helps hair regrow. What breaks a fast? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-7aRLsCpxy3o.html Dieters losing weight through intermittent fasting show greater reduction in waist size and increase in insulin sensitivity for the same weight lost and alternate day fasters were shown to lose fat while gaining muscle at the same time over a six month period. Fasting has been shown to increase bone marrow volume by 10% and levels of carnosine in the body in as little as a few weeks. Fasts of several days will not affect short term female fertility and may increase long term fertility especially in women with PCOS. Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level. Eating one meal a day can bring most of these benefits to a lesser degree, and adding a few entire days off from eating per week will have even more effect especially when starting to feel poorly. Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia. Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or certain forms of hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution as it could lead to ketoacidosis. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice. I did this just a few days ago when my dtr brought home cookies from work-she’s a mixer at Crumbl. She knows not to bring them home often because I can resist everything but temptation.... I did save half of a lemon blackberry cookie to have after my one meal for the day which I ate in the following order; hamburger casserole, small serving of roasted veggie combination-cauliflower/broccoli/green bean and mushroom; cultured whole milk cottage cheese with a few strawberries, followed by my half of a cookie. Not only didn’t blood sugar rise afterward, it went down as it normally does after a meal of fats. Of course it isn’t advisable to do this often but for occasional use it actually does work.

Interesting. I've noticed over the years, that always eating a small salad or veggie soup as a starter would help keep my weight in check. I attributed this mainly to 'filling' up on low calorie food first. But maybe blunting my blood sugar response to the main dish played a role, too.

I thought maybe it had something to do with time of day or weather I exercised that day, but I couldn’t figure it out. It just seemed random. I just tried to reduce carbs as much as possible, but I love white rice, so it was difficult. Now I will have a salad with vinegar and oil or anti-pasta (meats, olives, cheeses) first. Great advice, as an Italian in my meals I usually have at first a carbo dish (such as pasta, rice, etc..) and after the proteic food with some vegetables. I've often wondered if a reversed dish sequence could affect the post prandial blood GI; here I get the answer. The goal I'm pursuing is to avoid the post prandial drop of focus which could happen with such meals and is due to the digestive effort and the GI spike.

Salads, meats, vegetables that aren’t loaded with sauces and aren’t normally cooked with added sugar, like asparagus, Brussel sprouts, greens etc. you can’t avoid 100% carbs even at home due to nearly 100% of real foods will have at least a trace of carbs. Do I stopped eating them as part of my low carb journey . Pastor Dennis ( beat diabetes ) did an experiment where he compared oats to a very typical high sugar breakfast cereal . That probably goes hand in hand, I mean the kind of food and eating less. I'm swiss, eating quite similar to our french neighbors, we don't skimp on butter, oil, full-fat cheese and so on. Was in the States many years ago, people around me were shocked about the butter and cheese amounts I've eaten (predicted me heart attack and clogged blood vessels). Didn't scare me, cause I knew, my ancestors eaten similar and almost without exception, all reached a healthy age over 90 years. But what struck me, was that everyone around me always seemed hungry and snacking. I've only eaten once or twice a day and felt full and active. Never breakfast, just a tee or coffee and then, in the morning, body activity does it almost by itself, cause without something in your stomach you feel liftet and weightless. Well time goes on, more than 30 years have passed since then, I'm still healthy and activ, never had a doctor's appointment. The same with salt, enough natural sea salt or Himalayan salt (your body will tell you), no refined and certainly no fluorinated salt. But everybody is different and has to find out what works best for them. Just something to think about.

Thank you so much Dr Jason Fung for all that you do. I love and appreciate your teachings. I will give this a try to see my outcome. Question: Are side carbs really needed ... (Rice, Potato, Pasta etc..) I know that rice (Purple Rice) is what I eat has some great nutrients in them. So smaller portions like 2 Table Spoon serving should be surfice instead of 8 ounces serving at the end of my meal instead of throughout my meal? How much carbs are actually needed to help the protein and nutrients from the meat, beans and vegetables to help absorb their nutrients? Or are carbs just not really necessary, are they just a filler to be full?.. Not a good habit? Thank you in Advance to hear back from you!! ❤😇

Why are you even eating salad ? It is absolutely pointless with no nutritional value you may as well just go into your garden and start eating the grass 🤦🏻‍♂️

@@baz9653 I would eat grass, but I don't have enough stomachs ... kidding! You're 100% right! I nary eat salads. I was suggesting to folks who "absolutely must" have their salad to eat it last. Thanks, Baz!

I find I always want the meat and fat first, then pick at the carbs (tho I usually want some to top things off). And when I was a kid, before "healthy eating" warped us away from our better instincts (and before obesity was more than an occasional oddity), we always ate the crunchy fat off the meat first, then ate the meat, then the potatoes or whatever carbs (with lots of gravy or butter), then the sweets.

Dr. Fung, Can you speak about how eating rice with beans is a complete protein and if eating them together doesn't spike your insulin? Or does it? Also white rice or brown...which is better? I'm trying to incorporate more plant based eating and would love to hear what you have to say about it. I appreciate you and watch your videos everyday. Thank you for all you do!

Woah! This could be a game chamber for me! I've never lost weight eating omad. Going off sugar screws up my monthly cycle. I'm going to try this right away because I almost always snack on fruit while I cook my main meal.

Omad for a woman in productive age is not the best idea.
@witcheater

@@FeFeronkaMetallica Il agree. Productive aged females need all of the proteins and animal based fats that they can get, to be ready for the reproduction journey, but likewise be ready for the nursing of her baby. Yes, I am saying it here also, baby formula does the baby harm; a loving mother will breast feed always.

@Bok Choy You seem not to be so based... as in, you are emotional in your life narrative. So sad or you and your future. Get over yourself.
