Why Genshin Impact's Archons Are Perfectly Designed 

1:35 Nitpick, the Gnosis isn't the source of their power. Zhongli, Raiden and Nahida gave up their Gnoses and they still have their powers.

I think one thing that you could have touched on is that to prevent excessive powercreep, genshin designs the archons with supportive capabilities in mind. There are lots of big dmg dealers in anemo, geo, dendro, hydro, but the archons have a recurring utility aspect that helps ensure they're uncontested in the situations demanded of them. Even if some of them have very generous multipliers on their attacks, all of their elemental bursts aim to provide something to the party, whether thats energy, durability, crowd control and reaction or damage buffs. On a sidenote, they all also offer off-field elemental application in some form, hence the current "afk" archon team. I feel like even with the pyro archon, she'll be similar to raiden shogun by dealing high damage but also giving off-field buffs/off field pyro application. Similarly, the tsaritsa will almost certainly provide crit rate buffs given its ubiquity with cryo artifacts and resonance.

With so many Pyro on-fielders I can see Murata being a 5* Xiangling since there aren't many off-field Pyro characters. As for Tsaritsa I think it would be so interesting if she could amplify Freeze by being able to freeze bosses, changing the rules of the game established at the start

I have one nitpick about this video, and it's the fact that Venti would be the strongest character in the game by a wide margin. Him being playable means that Hoyo needs to put enemies in abyss that can't be lifted up or staggered easely in order to make him feel balanced. If they still put enemies in abyss like those, or new enemies that are easely lifted up, he would be the most used and strongest character.

Sorry, Vars, but when you make lore statements, you need to check them. Archons neither choose who receive a vision, nor do they choose to stop giving Visions. EI herself was surprised that no new Electro Visions were given to mortals since Vision Hunt Decree And Neuvillette's character details explicitely state that it's Celestia who decides. Archons have ZERO control on Vision destribution system. Also, Ei became a NEET right after constructing Raiden Shogun at some unspecified time in the past. Vision Hunt Decree was put up a year before Traveler's arrival to Liyue, Zhongli stated that.

I always like to think that the Archons were all designed to fix the biggest problem at the time. Venti for grouping, Zhong gor survival, Ei for energy demand, Nahida for sustaining reactions, Furina for filling roles (healer, buffer, dps and hydro applications all rolled into 1). So I think the next Archons will fix the longest problems we're still dealing with with cryo and pyro

I'll just always find it funny that at the start of this game, Venti was so much more powerful then any other character by far that everyone wanted him. He also made abyss possible, not just doable you basically needed/required him specifically. He also gave an updraft, no other character could. He was too powerful too early, they skipped the whole power creep thing and just gave us someone whose a lot stronger then you should need that early on in the games life. So much so they have to design enemies to be not effected by his attacks just to remove his relevance. They had to alter the game because of his existence. Meanwhile Zhongli gets released in a state that was so bad he was terrible to own before his buffs, and from what I am reading, he is the only character release to ever be buffed? And instead of just being strong, they go and design a boss around his kit to make him a "requirement" when the boss itself was just extremely terribly designed.

I want the tseritsa to be able to freeze any thing even weekly bosses that will show the real power of cryo

My guess is that Natlans characters will be centered around a high-risk, high-reward mechanic ("burn bright or be snuffed out") a bit like how Fontaine characters have a health-centered mechanic which Murata will take to a whole new level, being in essence a Support-DPS like Raiden who gets rewarded when you do risky stuff with your team.

Fontaine is unique because we also got the Hydro Sovereign along with the Archon. It felt like a 2 for 1 type of deal. How many of you think Mihoyo will introduce other Dragon Sovereigns?

Archons in a nutshell: Venti: best cc (when it works) Zhongli: hold e and you gonna forgot what dodge means Nahida: broken but green Furina: broken but blue (also you need a healer)

The greatest measure of how powerful venti is is how Hoyo literally changed how they designed enemies so he would destroy everything

I find it funny through the Archon quests currently (of the playable) only Nahida and Ei are the only Archons that are the recognized archons of their lands while Venti (having hidden in plain sight), Zhongli (morax officially is “dead) and Furina (having passed on her authority and gnosis-yes I know Furina never actually had the gnosis but she was the recognized face of Fontaine) are just choking an doing what they please as mortals (albeit Venti and Zhongli possibly still have their long life spans)

Very great video ! Thats what i love so much about archons ,they the best representation of their respective element . I think something makes also Archons great is how synergistic they are with other units of the same role or element.

There is another side to Furina kit representing the hydro archon. Flat is justice... Okay im joking. There are 2 sides to Justice, retributive justice that is portrayed most often, meaning punishing those who commit crime, and the other is restorative justice, meaning justice that seeks to repair the harm done to victims. And what Furina does? On one hand she deals damage and on the other she heals. Brilliant, simply brilliant.

to murata/fire, one way i can think of is to make the archon the symbol of the element and at the same time "future proof" would be for her for example to accumulate the damage dealt by the group to a certain percentage and then discharge it in its own burst with a big blow. so even if stronger chars come out in the future they could enhance the dmg dealt by the archon. add some debuff, buff capability to this and you have a pretty interesting char

The ratio of male to female archons is admittedly a little curious but I still have a small inkling that Aether himself may become some new form of archon himself by the end of the journey.

I like how the ability that trascends human understanding are reserve on the archons. Like Zhongli who literally summons a meteor that no one can immitate, literally an ability worthy of a god. Raiden Ei musou no hitotachi that is like a dimensional slash and Venti who summons a vortex that seems like a block hole. These old folks wield the heavenly powers.

A huge part of their longevity is their support abilities Venti is always helpful when it comes to exploration and crowd controller Zhongli will always make you immortal with his shield and resistence shred Raiden can battery any team to hell and back Nahida applies a lot of dendro while also buffing EM And Furina has both healing and the fat fanfare

The only thing I am going to predict when it comes to the Pyro archon is that I think she'll be a claymore user like Diluc. I only say that because every other weapon has been used by the current icons. Claymore hasn't and I feel that be very fitting for the archon of war lol. But yeah I wouldn't be surprised if she was a major DPS unit. With the Cryo archon, no clue because of how very little information we have on her.

I wanna imagine the Pyro Archon won't be locked to just Attack scalers like a 5* Bennett might be. I think the Pyro Archon Kit will do two things. Firstly, being the best party healer, and secondly, being a Talent support. The first idea is that the God of War being some nigh unkillable badass because of stupidly strong regenerative capabilities just sounds correct to me, even if in gameplay that would mean being a super strong healer for the whole team. Her Skill could be a 25s~30s type that puts an aura on the active character. Attacks from the active character can heal not only themselves but also the entire team, while also having enough Pyro application to enable Forward Vape. And her Burst could be a 2-piece special; it could be a massive party-wide heal plus a Pyro infusion state that buffs her based on how much healing she/the team received. As it's on her Burst, she can either stay on field if she's your main DPS, or she can swap out immediately without issue if she isn't, but her Burst still has a use if she's not the DPS because of the party heal. The second thing the Pyro Archon will do is increase Talent Modifiers. This keeps her from stepping on Furina's toes since Furina is Dmg% and the Tsaritsa/Cryo Archon will most likely be Crit%. With Nahida covering EM and Raiden covering ER% and a smidge of Burst Dmg%, the Pyro Archon increasing the base value of your Talents lets her apply to more than just Attack%. Characters who's Talents use Attack, Defense, HP, and EM alike will all benefit from the Pyro Archon this way, and complimenting this with her insane healing potential will help her synergize with units like Furina and cement her as the most universal Support in the game, taking Bennett's title from him. I feel like they're gonna fuck us over and lock her on-field capabilities behind her C2 or even C6 if Furina and Nahida are anything to go off of. That said, I could imagine something busted for a C6 of someone who supports Talent Levels; increasing her own Talents by just adding whatever Talent Levels her allies have. A full team of triple crowns adding 30 Talent Levels to her NA, Skill, and Burst would be absolutely unhinged, for example. I think she'll be the best support if we ever see a Pyro Sovereign become playable who might effectively be just a Pyro Neuvillette. Then again, maybe the Pyro Archon will be one of Neuvillette's best supports? Neuvillette w/Furina/Nahida/Pyro Archon might be able to continuously land all his Vapes from across the map with none of the drawbacks of needing to be close to enemies like Xiangling currently wants you to be. And if you build the Pyro Archon for EM like Raiden, you could probably get a ton of safe Burgeon AoE into your team since the Pyro Archon will always be healing you along the way anyhow. I keep saying Pyro Archon because I'm not sure if Murata was the original Pyro Archon who got replaced since Venti and Zhongli are the only original Archons. Or maybe Murata is the replacement. Either way, I'm not expecting her to survive GOATHIMtano. Since Natlan's based on South America it sounds like, it'd be cool if we just got to Natlan and Capitano's on his way out with the Pyro Gnosis saying Murata died. Traveler tries to throw hands and immediately gets killed in one-hit. You then wake up in the "afterlife/underworld" in Natlan alongside Murata and you have to fight your way out as the Archon Quest.

I can see the pyro archon doing a Yun'jin /Shenha thing where she increases attacks by a portion od her attack and then have a second cast that is a nuke based on how many stacks were used

one thing for sure is that Dendro characters have alot of way to go to actually reach Nahida's potential in Dendro.

Honestly with nahida and focalor having an elemental burst that kinda like a domain expansion. I think the others should too, kinda like raiden boss fight she should take on that state when in your elemental burst, Venti should fly around and do plung damage lol

I dig a headcanon about the Tsaritsa that she'll have two modes, like Furina. Kinda in a nod to how the Delusion changes physical aspects of a Fatuus' design, not changing the body per se, but acting like some power up armor. However, instead of being a support in one mode and a DPS in the other, it would be about how she manipulates Cryo. It could be something like changing from single target DPS to AoE DoT, as it gets colder

The archons are designed to be supporting units rather than dps so they will never get power crept

i think the pyro archon will be a dps who scales of of the party's damage output. so the more damage your party is apart of the more damage the pyro archon will deal. I'm probably wrong of Corse but i think the concept would be fun im more curious what body type they will be if they will be small, medium or tall. i hope they make her muscular but i cant see genshin doing that.

Murata will have atk-based mechanics, obviously. If I had to guess, how she'll work is having low base attack, but offset that by boosting her own atk by a significant percentage of total team atk stats. There's your "warrior leading army" motif.

It would be cool if the fire Archon had an ability, that sets your teammates ablaze, causing burn damage. Would play nicely into the theme of war, how it hurts everyone. Not to mention how well it would synergise with the healers who got back into the spotlight again

On the topic of pyro supports, any word on the community's thoughts on Cheveruse? I wouldn't say she's as good as the Power-5 due to her being limited to pyro/eletro teams, but within that niche, she's essentially a more potent version of Benett with a built in res shred who does damage at C0 and cracked at C6, based on her Con descriptions. She was essentially the reason I was able to 36 star abyss after two years of playing this game, so I'm surprised people don't talk about her more.

In terms of design and combat, absolutely amazing. In terms of writing, it's arguable, especially with Raiden. Edit: Bro... why does every comment of mines that blows up always have to have some kind of beef...

I agree with the general idea that they are all extremely well designed. I also agree that I think that's Murata will be a main DPS. I have a video (which I will link) about what I think should be in her kit. The question that I want answered for her will be if she is a persistent DPS or a burst DPS. If I were to guess, despite pyro being often consider the big oonga boonga DPS, since Raiden is already burst based, Murata will be persistent. But that's speculation on my part. As for the Tsaritsa, I'm not fully sure what she'll be yet. We need more information. However, I'm willing to take a stab and say that there are two possibilities for her kit. As a believer in the slime theory, I'd say that she will either have a dropping ice ability or a ice mist ability. Personally, I'm voting for the mist. I'm also going to guess that she's very, VERY freeze oriented. Like, potentially has a passive that increases the duration of freeze on a target. But again, that's speculation. 'Aight Imma just bring my own take on Murata now. Knowing how fire is mostly known for it's destruction, another thing that it does is weakening. We cook food to weaken nad nullify they're general compound structure which are mostly very strongly bounded making them hard to consume if not cooked. Anything that survives after a fire will most likely be weakened too, however fire could also toughen things up, making them even more durable in many cases. Giving how Murata is the god of war, I will bet my money that she'll do three things: +Debuffing: she will be the first most effective debuffer in the game, making the enemies a lot more vulnerable and stunted as we need to weaken our enemies' consense in order for a surprise attack. +Increasing defensive capability: Kinda like Xingqiu but make it better. Increase DEF, increase stuns resistance, increase dmg RES you name it. +DPS: this is kinda obvious since you know, god of war and all that. She'll be kinda like Raiden in this department imo. If they will give her some buffing capabilities then I want her to buff the general stats of all characters' talents. Make it be like Childe with his increase normal attack level but make it BETTER, either she will increase the level of all talents as a whole or buff the general stats of said talents so don't give a shit whether your DPS is atk, def, hp or whatever scalers because she's buffing them nonetheless. I kinda want her to lean more towards the defensive/debuffing side of spectrum cuz those are kinda rare inbthe Archon roster, with imo only Zhongli and maybe Furina + Nahida being capable of those.

This video is a mix of lore and meta so I need to say this here, Mondstat vision holders have a goos range for the attaks or burts (Jean Sucrose Bennett) Venti is a Cloud Control god, Inazuma vision holders kit's plays around their burst pretty much all Ei kit's is her burst, Sumeru vision holder's play aroud Elemental Mastery Nahida's kit is just a EM symbol, Fontaine vision holders kit's is pretty much HP wonderland (they have pretty much all play whit their HP going up or down) Furina's kit is that but whit buffs she heals and is a dmg dealer and plays whit all party members HP to make them all stronger. Now 2 Archons need to touch around a mechanic that all 5 don't do... (Sorry can't find something for all liyue vision holders and Zhongli so please tell meyour idea)

tsaritsa might be the best cryo off-field sub-dps enough to make melt teams more consistent and on top of that a debuffer.

I think Murata will me more focused on dealing Damage. I think she will me more focusing on desling damage outside and on field and buffing the damage of the whole team so you have an increase of the whole damage

I think one of the reasons genshin didn't get powercrept so fast is because the devs have done very well at diversifying the gimmicks. They don't have to release a stronger version of the previous characters in order to make the character more valuable to pull for.

Tsaritsa kit that i want to see: 1.Slow enemy movement and/or attack speed 2.Give a lot of crit buff and turn overcap CR to CD 3.Reduce enemy def

I think it'd be interesting if the Tsaritsa had a special burst that acts differently depending on the status of enemies For instance, let's say if the enemies are already Frozen, the burst causes Shatter with greatly increased damage, whereas if the enemies simply have Hydro applied to them, the burst causes a Freeze with a much longer duration than normal (maybe this could be called Permafrost), and maybe if the enemies have Pyro applied, then after the initial hit of her burst, they take additional strong hits of Cryo over time that line up with the optimal timing of Melt reactions, but could also be used to facilitate further Freeze reactions that can help set up the next usage of her burst for a Shatter Having the potential for more than one of these effects active at the same time due to different enemies having different statuses in the moment would be chaotic, and, in that way, can symbolize the chaos and confusion that the Fatui cause around Teyvat Making it so that her skill is a single Cryo application with two or three charges could let her choose whether to apply Cryo or not, making it easier to line up her burst with whichever status you prefer, or use multiple charges to chain Freeze and also deal more raw damage while waiting for the burst to charge back up And maybe both her skill and burst would have a big AoE for a skill/burst, making it so every time you perform an action with her, it's literally a big deal, which would fit her status in the narrative Just some ideas 🤔

I really love how the archons embody the main aspects of their element and also something beyond the limits of the standard genshin system. Consider this, venti with crowd control, with the ability to let any character fly on spot, surpassing the traversal system. Zhongli with his incredible shield, that's permanent in terms of duration and geo representative, and also surpassing the damage aspect of genshin. Raiden, with energy recharge for electro, and going beyond the standards of the genshin system not only by surpassing the energy system by universally batterying and also providing permanent electro application, with limitless duration with her skill cooldowns. Nahida, with permanent dendro application with her skill cooldowns, emblematic of the reaction centric dendro meta and also going beyond the internal cooldown system by functionally giving enough dendro application to be near infinite. Furina with permanent healing and hydro application for hydro's healing and reaction meta and also susrpassing the healing system of the game(and also her ludicrous dmg buff). The archons not only represent their element brilliantly but also surpass the system of the game in a way going beyond the mortal characters.

While the archons exhibit the core principle the element they represent, I believe the sovereigns exhibit the pure and raw strength of 7 elements, making them quite possibly the strongest units for each element. Neuvillette proved this for hydro, and knowing Hoyoverse, they might release more sovereigns in the future in order to extend the lore beyond the 8 chapters of Teyvat. I honestly think Neuvillette being a playable sovereign is just the beginning of what they might add in the future.

I agree with some other comments suggesting the pyro archon could be an attack scaling healer/buffer, mainly because we have no healing focused archons (yes, Furina *can* heal, but it's far from her focus) and the Cryo archon being a high tier buffer. None of the archons are really focused on DPS- they can put out a ton of damage but it's not their main job. As such I doubt the pyro and cryo archons will be DPS

I kinda wish Raiden shogun was a more hyper carry like unit like a really heavily leaned into mechanics wise I know her kit right now she can be one but she's more of a support burst dps carry thing.. lol idk don't get me wrong I like her kit and she's a great character but I always felt like if any archons embodies the hyper carry mind set it would be here but maybe the pyro one will be more suited towards it (the cryo archon should def buff or utilize crit dmg or rate or both tbh)

I am hoping the Pyro Archon is a better, kinda side grade to Bennett. Stronger buffs, but no healing to offset, so that Bennett may still be relevant. As for Cryo Archon, we still do not have a very strong cryo applicator aside from Ayaka constellation and C6 Kaeya.

As I said in the comments of the Ratheil video you mentioned, Archons should always have _something_ that they're the best at. So long as they have some kind of niche role that is moderately useful that no other character can outdo them in, they'll always be relevant even if other characters get released that have better numbers than them. Venti having the best crowd control against "Venti-able" enemies, Zhongli having the best, most consistent shield, Raiden... yeah idk (flat energy gain for teammates? Tbh I'm not really sure what she'd be the best at, she just feels like a "I am 95% of like 5 things where some other characters can maybe barely hit 100% in 1 thing" type of character), Nahida having the most consistent damage regardless of range and number of enemies (and of course dendro application, but I'm trying to leave their respective element out of the judgment here) and finally, Furina with the best, most consistent DMG% buff.

Out of all the playable Archons I think Raiden Shogun is closest thing we'll get to the Electro Archon, but part of me wonders how much stronger would Ei be in comparison. edit: Just recently finished Fontaine, so guess also more curious how much Focalors would vary from Furina.

Since all the Archons have been of the formula, "They are amazing (probably the best) support of their elements but also can deal major amount of dmg"... I expect Pyro archon to have exactly same kit philosophy but more emphasis on major amound of dmg. So kind of like Xiangling replacement with something extra..... Also all the Archons had an easy access to all the reactions their element has so I wouldn't be surprised if Pyro archon can vape, melt and burgeon reliably without much effort.

Purely from a gameplay perspective this is what i think/want the last 2 archons to be Murata should be a pyro on-field dps. Pyro is the element of on-field dps so this is a no brainer. I think she should also have a big pp damage ability like hutao. As for something unique, i think she should have a talent that allows her to prolong other party members' off-field abilities. Prolonging things like bennett's ult, xiangling's ult and yelan's ult could allow more time for murata to stay on field and do damage. As the god of war, i think this also fits into the leader architype of leading her team to war. As for the tsaritsa, i think she should play around freeze. Maybe even allow her to freeze bosses or without a reaction like zhongli's ult can. She should also be consistent and have high uptime like ayaka and ganyu. A talent that makes frozen enemies take more damage is also an idea.

Still crazy even after the nerfs Zhongli has gotten with corrosion , Dendro and the Healing mechanics of Fontaine. He still consistently remains in the Top 5 most picked characters. Some people complain about his energy recharge being low but honestly thats probably the best case scenario for Zhongli because he will have way more versatility in team comps without the risk of stealing reactions.

Judging from cryo resonance i expect the cryo archon to be a crit rate buffer. To me the rrsonance is what tells the most about the focus of the element in gameplay (pyro is attack, hydro healing, dendro elemental mastery, electro energy, geo shield strenght)

All Archons so far represent the best that their element has to offer, but Pyro is known for explosive damage, so logic dictates that she will be a Hypercarry DPS, but all Archons focus on support precisely because supports tend to age better than DPS in the META, so I predict her to be a fusion of Diluc, Xiangling and Bennett: A Hypercarry with Sub-DPS and Buffs for the team

honestly, we just need more pyro supports. i know the likelihood of Murata being a support is slim to none, but g o d do we need it for mono pyro. tbh, i'd take her being both support and dps. Lyney just needs more, and Thoma or Xiangling just don't cover for what characters outside of the element do. speaking on the idea of her being a general type, support and dps like Ei would make sense, boosting the damage of her team while also boosing and doing big damage herself. there was also a theory i heard not to long ago that there might be two archons instead of one, though it's a long shot. it could be a case for the archon and sovereign to rule over Natlan, sorta like Neuvi and Furina. if that's the case, it could be split between the two, one is pure dps, while the other is a support boosting said dps. we'll just have to see

I generally agree with you there. As for the Cryo element, I don't feel like it has a clear identity, but for all we know the Tsaritsa may not be playable at all considering she's an actual antagonist
