Interesting. As a child i was often told i looked like a refined female version of my dad. Now in my late 20s people tell me a look like my mom. It's funny how it can change 😆
Its interesting to think what facial traits change with age and how that is connected with what parent you look like more. If I have to guess - I would say that now you have more weight on, so your face is more round, with more female/neoteny features. Just a guess and Im not calling you fat lmao.
Yeah same..now that im 28 i have more of my moms facial features(nose, lips, brows) but i have my dads face shape(wider cheek bones and stronger jaw)..except it looks a little longer cause my mom has a long face.
This is a very interesting and thought provoking video. I’ve seen a lot of girls that are the first child have a strong resemblance to their fathers more than their mothers.
Fr. I'm the eldest child and only daughter in my family and I look, just as the video says, exactly like my dad but yassified. Same thing goes with a close friend of mine and my friend's older sister; like me, they both are the first born children and are daughters and they look exactly like their fathers while their younger siblings resemble their mothers.
I think it's super interesting--for me it's the opposite. I'm the first born for my parents (dad had two kids with another woman when he was younger) and I look a lot like my mom--eyes, eyebrows, hair color, but more of my dad's side of the family's type of face shape and nose. My younger brother is the spitting image of my dad, so is my older half-brother. If you look at baby pics of the three of them, they look almost the same. I wonder if in my younger brother's case, that's genetics being like "okay, 2nd child, you'd better look like dad to get them resources because you've got competition" 🤔
@@the1stmetalhead I blame cancel culture for the inability of our society to talk about topics without filtering the facts . @@kaushikidhupar2954 that's so true. I'm optimistic this channel will probably motivate and help others to start their own channels and present the truth in a systematic manner without attaching their own personal biases towards the subject matter.
I am the youngest daughter and I look exactly like my dad. I've felt insecure about it because I'd rather look more feminine, just like my mother and sister. My father had received compliments because of his appearance while I did not because as a female I look a little bit rough. Instead of forcing myself to look more feminine I decided to embrace it and have more of a "cool" style instead of a "pretty" style. This video was so informative, it's interesting to know the reason behind it!👌🏽
Good. Glad you came to terms with it. Rock it girl. You've got your Dads DNA in you and no one can take that way from you. Even when he is gone...you can always look in the mirror. I'm sorry that turned deep real quick.
So this sparks a question I've had for a while. What is the science behind a child growing to adulthood to still look like the child version of one of their parents? I always thought I looked more like my father, but I saw a picture of my mother when she was 10-12, and I look *exactly* like her. But we look nothing (okay, a little bit, but you get my point) alike when comparing 30 yr old to 30 yr old. But for some reason, 30 yr old me looks like 12 yr old mum.
I don't know much on the topic so please take this as it is: just a theory. Maybe you inherited a lot from your mom (the genetic part of how you should look at least), and the reason why despite that your mom at her 30's seems so different its because of other factors. Its a small portion but a part of our features are determined by the environment we live in, so maybe her environment influenced her features heavily, meanwhile you environment has not have that much influence on yours. I might be wrong tho, but seems possible.
@@blackcat6374 That seems reasonable! I've also wondered if the parts I got from my father just *happen to be* things that mixed to make me have a slightly 'softer' look than my mother - which might mean an adolescent version of her.
I'd say facial growth, by which I mean bones. As seen in twins, facial bones can develop in different directions. Did she used to have a more squared off/rounder face with a more defined jaw which and her face has now developed to me longer or more downswung in profile, and your face shape stayed pretty much the same? That could mean your facial bones developed "better" than hers after the age the Foto of your mother was taken.
@@davednuhenabla interesting thought! It's kind of the reverse, she has a squarer jaw while I have a narrower jaw. Neither of us have long faces though, and I've always had proper tongue position. However, I could definitely see that something could have caused our facial bones to continue to develop in different ways!
My mom really said "copy+paste" when making me. Even my dad is a little disturbed not only that I am a lady clone of him but also that we make alot of the same facial expressions and it freaks alot of people out because the resemblance I guess is so identical that it makes them uncomfortable? Least my dad knows what he would look like if he was a woman and I know what I would look like if I was a man so that's one less curiosity 🤷🏾♀️
This makes sense. The mother has no questions that she's the mother lol I heard something like 10% of men are raising a child they think is there's but isn't (10% sounds like a ton though so who knows). When your child looks like you it's probably much easier to invest time and attention.
@@thinking-ape6483 Can you show me some stats about your claim? Coz I can show you stats about mine lol. France didnt make a law forbidding men taking paternity test for nothing lmao.
I definitely look like my father and was always told so as a child - I still resemble him, which makes me feel rather unfeminine. I've always found eye color rather fascinating, as I have brown eyes like our father and my twin brother has blue eyes like our mother, but our younger sisters (who are identical twins) has a murky grey-greenish color. We've always been told we don't look like siblings, even though I'd argue we have very similar features, but the eye color seem to get a lot of attention. Also, I always thought it was wierd how I was the only one with brown eyes - since it should be the more dominant.
I share the same feeling of perceiving yourself as unfeminine when you look like your dad. I look like my dad more and yes, not very comforting, plus, my body type is inverted triangle (i don't look bad) but is a body shape more associated with "the masculine". I accept myself but this video was very interesting and I wanted to see if there were ladies who had this thought as well
It's why women are supposed to make sure we procreate with men who are really attractive in the face cause our daughters will most likely look like their fathers
@@bellacortez this is actually a bad idea. Choosing men based on their physical attractiveness is a bad standard to measure them. You need to learn more about intelligent hypergamy. There's therapy, gym, aesthetic surgery and self acceptance
@@marte1376 the heck are u talking about, are you gonna tell your kids just go to therapy, surgery or just accept yourself if they turn out "bad" ? lol
When I try the male face filter I look exactly like my dad when he was young, same eyes, hair, smile, face shape... My brother looks exactly like my mom and since they both have long hair sometimes he uses her ID to prank people
Now I can reverse engineer what my father looked like 😎 Edit: Also, since I was adopted, I notice that my face does resemble my adoptive mother’s face, even though she is Caucasian and I’m Asian. Maybe that is some of the developmental resemblance at play.
Something I heard is when you're a baby you learn to mimic your parents facial expressions and that changes the way your muscles develop in your face so with time you start to look more and more like them
Same with my boyfriend, he’s like a mix of his dad and mom even though he’s adopted, it’s really fascinating (and honestly I swear even some pets I know resemble someone in their families 🤣)
Going through the same stuff for years would do that. I heard that's why old couples end up looking like each other. Or it could also be that they adopted someone who already look a bit like them. I know some people do that so that it isn't obvious that the kid is adopted and they can wait for a few more years before telling them.
(please explain what yassified means in the comments in your own words for those who don't know): 1. Differential resemblance theory is just a theory at this point, but it has strong empirical evidence. 2. Girls and boys may look more like their Mothers OR Fathers but this depends on what point in their life we're talking about. The graph at 6:13 explains best why girls look more like their dad as they age. Boys look more like their mothers too according to this with age. The scientists argue this is a result of genes expressing themselves in ways to maximize the opposite sex parent to love them MORE, because the same sex parent will already see themselves in the child by default.
I guess that explains why I'm going bald with age lol. Grandpa on Mother's side went bald at 25 while my father has extremely thick hair which I had as well until a few years ago....
many people tell me that i took after my dad, and that my sister took after my mom. sometimes i think about it and take it as an insult because my mom is beautiful and all my friends tell me that they aren't sure how my dad pulled her. RIP!
As a German (Dad)-Filipina (Mum), I find it so so difficult to determine to whom I look more alike. I have my mum's skin, hair color, and lips but everything else seems to be more like a mix (e.g. nose is small. Dad's is prominent and pointy and Mum's is pretty round). So I feel like I don't really look like my mum or dad but as their combination of genes :D
OMG ARE YOU ME?!?!?! I have a German dad and a Filipina mom too, but I have my dad’s bone structure while I have my mom’s skin color, eyes, and hair so I don’t really look like either
@@hakujoudaidraws2633 oh how cool! :)) but do you also do that: every time I went grocery shopping with my Dad, I let ALL the people know that he is my dad/Papa. Otherwise, they look and probably think that my Dad got a veeery young, hot Asian wife/lover (haha I needed to compliment myself :D )
I get what you're saying. When I saw photos of Meg Ryan and Dennis Quaid's son Jack, as a boy, he looked so much like Meg, especially with his fair hair. But as an adult of around 30, with some frown lines and darker hair, he often looks very much like Dennis - especially when he smiles (he has Dennis' smile, and teeth). Actually you can see both of them, depending upon the photo and pose.
Also environment hereditance may take part in your final phenotype, as you may look more like your parents not strictly from genes but the preassures that they are exposed are the same (ex. Living in nordic regions whereass in south europe, where the same genes for fat distribution lead to different phenotypes) overall pretty good!!
This is really interesting in my case! Although you can tell that I’m related to my siblings (older brother, younger sister), I look way more like my dad, than my mum. Even as a baby, I looked way different. I had my dads colouring (dark hair, olive skin, black eyes) vs my siblings who were born blonde with blue eyes. For reference, I have grey eyes now, my brother has green (like my mother) and my sister has a bright blue. Both their hair and skin are lighter than mine. We are all 100% related. In terms of parenting, my dad has always said that he has, and had a closer relationship/bond with me as I was more ‘like him’ growing up-but that can be put down to more time/investment and his own values/moral code being put onto me in comparison to my siblings. Alternatively, my brother was very much a ‘mummy’s boy’ growing up, and my sister, as the baby, got more combined attention from them both. Funny thing is, is that people do say that I look like a younger, albeit different version of my mum now that I’m a bit older and grown into my features, but put me next to my dad and I’m the feminised equivalent!
I am glad that I can carry the features of my late father as it makes me feel he's alive in me. My mom has the finest nose and eyebrows, but I inherited my late father's nose, eyes and bushy masculine eyebrows. So I rather look masculine because of those strong features. Earlier people used to say me and my mother look the same, but as I am growing up they tell me I look more like my father.
I have an amazing blessing. I look like a female version of my dad. My dad died 9 years ago, and recently I went back to the town he grew up in with my aunts, his sisters. On our walk, we met like 2 separate people I'd never met before who upon seeing me with my aunts whom they knew for decades went "That's amazing, my God! She looks exactly like the late *name of my dad*" And I used an app that showed me what I'd look like as a man and it was as if I was looking at a picture of my dad. Showed it to mom and she laughed from both amazement and disbelief." It's like he came back to life" So even though he died he's alive in me. He's alive through my face which looks so much like his, through my personality which resembles him and through my heart which never forgets him.
I'm literally my dad but female. I playfully used a mustache and beard filter and I became my dad. Showed the photo to him and he laughed out loud cuz he thought he looked in the mirror 😂
I definitely got my father's musculosketal structure, but in my face, I'm the perfect fusion of my mother, her sister, and their mother 😅 I remember learning about eye genetics, and it's something I've consciously paid attention to since, because I've only ever met maybe 12 people with green eyes in my lifetime, 8 of them are from one family, and another 2 are siblings. I've known of a million blue eyed folks, and it makes me wonder why green eyes are so exceedingly rare in my world
It's interesting...in my family situation, it was better for me and my sister's sanity to get attention from none of them. I hardly look like my dad, and I've always looked more like my mom, who was more tolerable. In recent years, I noticed my faces bone structure developed to look like neither, since I can't really stand looking at my mom anymore without getting sad. I look more similar to my sister than to my parents, and my sister looks almost nothing like either of my parents, really.
My sisters and I don't look much like our parents either, our mother has zero patience and tends to be controlling, and our father works a lot so we don't interact with him all that much. We share a feature here and there, for example my (eldest daughter) nose is 100% my father's but more feminine, and my sisters have thin lips like my mother. We don't really look like siblings either. People are often surprised to learn we're related lol
As a child I was always told I look like my father, now as a 20 year old we are closer to brothers than father and son. My father also looks pretty young
I'm literally the eldest daughter and since I can remember people say I look like a spitting image of my father even my mom 😪 Now it's intresting to see why lol
i LOVE when you upload ❗️. please keep up the good work🤘🏽. it’d also be great if u talked more about male fashion. i enjoyed that video and found it helpful
I'm a mom of four. I haven't yet watched this video but every child was born looking exactly liked their father and slowly changed over a decade to resemble me a bit more. I personally have been stopped to be told I look like my mother by strangers in my hometown although I do feel like I look more like a female version of my dad. Ew lol
@@buriedomasta3375 he's a huge very manly man. I luckily am not big lol but I did get his eyes and basically face but feminine. My mother was incredibly beautiful. Wish I looked like her.
@@buriedomasta3375 same here. I'm a man but look more like my mom, especially her eyes and nose 😂 On the other hand, I have my father's lips and natural tanned skin.
Interesting, I have noticed that pattern around me and in my case I grew up looking obviously my father’s daughter and when I start to look more like my mother I notice their relation was getting worse at the point that people start to notice I was more like my mother and then my father abandoned her. I really think it has a lot of unconscious jealousy of who has the stronger genes. The detail is that he’s very atypical in our region he has dark skin and a Jewish-like face and most people in our region are more a mix of northern Iberian and Germanic people, so it’s really noticeable if someone change from looking like him to looking like my mom.
Hi, not sure if you're going to cover more celebrity faces, but I really hope you can do one on talk show hosts/comedians? Cus especially nowadays people are tuning in more than ever and imo they kinda have a "leader" impact on at least what the public view of a lot of things are. Since you did a video on world leaders, will you do this? I also would like to know if someone's face can influence their humor or comedic performance like how actors do.
I don’t know if this theory is true or not, but I was told by a professor in college that a first born DAUGHTER…tends to always resemble the dad. But she has to be the first child…period. If she for example, came after two boys, it doesn’t count.
I've always been told I look like my mom but the rest of my features match my dad, especially my skin. My dad tans super easily (people often mistake him for being Hispanic) and my mom has red hair and is covered with freckles. So I'm kind of in-between those two extremes. Idk. People also say I sound like my mom and vice versa when I talk on the phone, so my grandparents often get us confused lol.
My dad has green eyes, my mom brown and I have grey eyes and my sister brown too. My dad's dad had green eyes too and my mom's dad has blue eyes. My dad's brother has green eyes and my mom's brother has blue eyes. LOL genetics are kinda funny. I don't think anyone in my family had grey eyes but i suppose they are just a shade of blue eyes
I look like my dad and I am a firstborn female. My sister looks a lot like one of my aunts on my dads side. I also got my moms genes in certain aspects. I am thankful for my nose, slimness, eyes, legs, hair from my dad but also got cystic acne, excess hair on my body, and have a recessed chin. I also inherited IBS from him. My smile and mannerisms are my mom. My sister has a lot of similarities to my mom and got her beautiful skin and facial features. She inherited the issues with mild form of lymphedema and she has stretch marks in the same area as her. I don’t know why but this is so interesting to me. How genes mix and what mannerisms, ailments, looks, skills etc. We get from our parents. I got my dads knack for public speaking and connecting with people (very empathetic). My sister got her grit, sense of humor, independence, and adventurous spirit from my mom.
Lmao the title has me rolling! And it's so true! I look a lot like my grandma on my dad's side, but my dad looks a lot like his mom. The cheek bones and nose 100%
I don't know if others experienced this, but whenever people saw me alone with one of my parents, they'd mention that I resemble said parent. Don't get me wrong, I definitely have facial traits that were passed from me to them, but never anything that immediately stood out to the point that people would say "WOW! You look just their [said parent I'm standing next to]". It was weird that everyone would say these things, yet no one would say anything when I was seen with both my parents. Honestly, I look more like my sister than either of my parents lol. We've been confused as twins when we were younger (despite having an age gap) and nowadays, people assume she's my mom.
Ok this might sound crazy, but I literally was discussing n wondering abt the logic abt how genetics decide which features to take from one parent n some from the other.. and lo and behold Qoves studio makes a video abt it.. Coincidence?! Idk.. but it sure as hell answered alot of my questions..
Facially I’ve always looked 90% like my mother. I only really have some characteristics from my dad like his height and nose basically just things that aren’t as noticeable
Kind of a stupid question but I wonder if attitude has anything to do with changing your looks? I’m mixed so all my life I always thought I looked more Caucasian and more like my dad and paternal grandmother and that was all I saw in the mirror, but there was a time I didn’t look in the mirror for a about 6 months and it so happened I was going through a spiritual journey at the same time. I started to become optimistic and learned to appreciate the things I have even when I was miserable. When I looked in the mirror after several months I was really shocked to see my face, and for the first time in my life I didn’t see my dad’s features but my mom’s. Now everytime I look in the mirror I still see more of the features from my mom’s side of the family than my dad’s. It really blew my mind. Note that even back then when I went long without seeing my face in the mirror, I still looked like my father and my paternal grandmother after taking a look again. So if anyone tries to tell me it’s because I went long without seeing my face I don’t think it was because of that. It was the first time it ever happened to me
First-born daughter and I've never heard anyone say I resemble my dad even as a baby. Once I got a little older people sometimes compared me to his mother, though. He has a long and lean face and I have the opposite so resemblance would've been hard.
I wonder if this works the same between a step-dad and child scenario too? Our step-father became part of the family when my biological sister was about 4 years old. She looks so much like him even though they have no genetic relations.
They often tell I'm not clear sided one but an obviously mixed one, but I've get some comments that say I look more like my father. In some photos I realize I look a lot like my mother while in others I look like a mix. My parents also have one brown eyes and the other green eyes and I've got green and brown eyes while my brother has them brown and looks a lot more like my mother than I do :)
Funny! I was always told I look more like my dad, while my little brother looks more like my mum. As we have gotten older it feels like we resemble both of them. Especially in my little brother I see a lot of my dad nowadays!
Omg I used to be called ugly for looking like my dad growing up. Also some of these articles are inaccurate since I was only rasied by my mom and I wasn't the first child of my dads. 😭
My brother and I both resemble my mom (my voice is even the same as hers) - to the point that people genuinely confuse my mom and me (like close family members) in photos and in person. My brother is starting to look more like my dad's side of the family as he gets older, but as a child was so similar to my mom. She must have strong genes?
Im always told i looked like my father, and to my mother's later friends (friends she made after my father died) they'd say i look like a younger version of my mother. But ofc, since i hate being compared to anyone - even my parents over biological proof of me being their child - i didn't accept such statements. "I neither look like my mother nor father." Is what i'd say. But that face editting app where you can "genderbend" or make yourself very old or very young literally showed me. I looked like my bro's twin brother. And my bro is the exact same face my dad had when he was at that age. 🤣🤣 I went to edit his photo too and he ended up looking like me as well. LMAO. but weirdly tho, i editted my photo to look old and i ended up looking like my mother. My bro just looked like our father still.
Guy here who has always resembled my mother more than my father except for a few years as a teenager when I definitely looked more like my dad. But it was odd because I looked more like him as an older adult and not like him as a teenager. Now that I'm in my twenties I look more like my mom again but I still have some prominent features from my dad like his chin. Never started hearing "You look like your father" til I was maybe 16. My hairstyle can actually change it a lot, when I cut my hair to be short I looked just like my mom.
I’m a donor baby and I look nothing like my (nonbiological) father, but look a lot like my (biological) mother. The interesting thing is that I, as a child, was often mistaken for adopted. People would ask my parents if they had adopted me, to which my mother would become (mildly) offended, because she had to go through a tremendous effort to birth me. I wonder if the physical similarity between my mother and myself is prominent now because I have grown into an adult face, or because of some subconscious biological effort making me look more like her.
i thought i looked like my mom since we have similar eyes. but then i saw my dad and uncle's (they're twins) baby pics HOO BOY. I could be their triplet if my face was less round.
I've sometimes wondered if I was my father's daughter. All my siblings inherited his strong facial features except me. I got my mom's round nose and plump cheeks instead. As a result, I get confused for a teenager and the youngest in the family.
This is so mind fuckeningly interesting. When I was small everyone said I looked so much like my dad when he was a baby. But now I'm in my 20s I see my Mom's facial structure. But a mixed skin color from both my parents. How does that happen? According to the video, it's either/or right? But also, I eerily look so much like my dad's sister when she was young. Her childhood photos look exactly like me and its freaky. She's the wicked one in the family who somehow has a soft spot for me because I look like her.
My daughter was the spit of her dad as a baby’s then my mum at ages 3 - 6, she went through a fair few years then with no discernible familial similarities (her dad was adopted and never knew the birth parents so 🤷♀️), now at 18 I don’t see her looking particularly like any of us until looking at photos and those first glances I see myself and / or one of my sisters.
I would love to know how much genetics changed in my family over generations, cause we have alot of bad facial features: huge noses, tiny lips(not all of us), big chin, not good eyebrows :(
My older sister looked completely identical to our mom in her younger years, recently she got her nose done and now she looks so much more like our father.
I'm going to answer the question before watching the rest of the video. Most people who have seen me with my parents, say: "You look like your mother, you're so beautiful!" People forget to mention how I look like my mom because I have her overall looks. Yet, they hate saying anything if I look like my dad. But here's the thing, I look like my sister and she's not my mom daughter. So, for us to look alike, I had to look like our dad. The finer details on me come from my dad DNA. My messy looking curls in my hair, the shape of my brows and, etc.
No disrespect but you could make your points more clearly in your summaries. Why? You say a whole lot of technical stuff but I don't feel like I'm taking away a clear answer.
I think thats the difference between genetic probability and absolute numbers. Blue eye people are more likely to have kids with other blue eye people, that green eye people with other green eye/blue eye people. Just coz its less of those green eye folk to go around.
I am also the first born child and resembled my father way more than my little sister when I was a child. As an adult I now look more like my mother. I even changed eye color from his colour to nearly hers
I used to do gymnastics as a kid, and I remember my mom randomly walked into the gym while I was working with my coach. He said “wait” and I was worried I did something wrong. He said “is that woman your mom?” I said yes and he told me I looked just like her. However, my dad still thinks I look just like him to this day, but all of my relatives say I look more like my mom. My brother and I both look like our same sex parents more, but we resemble a bit of both parents. It’s strange lol
Iits better if he does but I cant do it in short - strong neoteny features like round face, small nose, but in combination with kinda deep voice, full lips and 'manly" eyes. (strong eye brow region , deep set into the scull, if you see them without the make up, and with natural eye brows, you would have hard time imagining its a womans eyes) So its a strong combination of traditionally male and female traits, with heavy favor of female. If you look at her pics in younger age - its even more obvs. Baby fat and full lips - very pedo combination lol. She kinda looks more like a man with age. In her 20s,30s and 40s, its was still a good balance but not so much now days...
@@tcrijwanachoudhury phahaha, you may be dumb tho. Do you think her eye brows are naturally this way? You have never seen a woman using small handy tools to shape her eye brows the shape and size she wants?
I’m the middle of five and am basically a balanced blend of my parents. My two older full siblings look more like my mom and then my two younger half siblings look more like their mother. However, my dad’s eyebrow genes were STRONG. Four out of five of us inherited his thicker eyebrows.
I have really dark brown eyes, my dad has a bit lighter brown eyes, my mom has grey/blue and my brother has a bit more green/blue color. I was born with blue eyes, but they changed to brown soon after my birth. There is no doubt of mine and my brother’s paternity, because we definitely look like him.
If I’m not mistaken, can’t you also inherit traits from your grandparents or even great-great grandparents? Plus too your environment, lifestyle, etc kinda plays a role on your facial features as well. But I could be wrong though.
When I was a kid I didn't look like either parent and people often didn't believe my parents were my parents. Sometimes people say I look like my dad now but usually people don't think we are related. 🙃
“The yassified version of your father” my genes were a bit artistic and decided to mold my appearance to the likes of Uncle Hermin, who they thought was particularly hot (I do not blame them, he was)
My mom has brown eyes and my dad green and 2 out of 3 of the kids have blonde hair and green eyes(dads side). I have sectoral heterochromia that is a brown dot on one eye and I think it's interesting why my dads eye genes were so strong that they overpowered my moms brown eyes. I wonder.
I have my fathers face shape (although the jaw and chin are my mothers), my eyes are from my mother, lips and nose are nothing like them. Some people say I look more like my dad, others like my mum. Wondering how I used to think back when I was a teen that I was adopted 😆
I look like a perfect mix between both my parents while my brother looks nothing like either although he has a very wide muscular jaw which is prominent in men on my mothers side of the family though not actually present in her. My brother somewhat looks like me in the way that sometimes I look at him and for a brief moment I see my own face but he doesn’t look much like either of our parents. I’ve had people ask me if my brother was related to me because how little he looks like either of our parents. He still got love and affection growing up though so I guess it worked out
