Thank you for that last point! I knew I made the right decision by breaking up with a man, but I was feeling scared that I'm being too picky and sillily chasing a love feeling. But it truly would have been me tolerating him. I Am getting older, but I'd rather be old and single than old and tolerating my partner. Phew! I'm gonna be older anyway, so I might as well be happy.

I, 100% agree with you on this one! "Growing to love someone"....is a very BAD idea. Either love is there or it isn't. Also, attraction whether it's physical or personality-wise has to be present. I prefer both! NO exceptions! I LOVE affection! Hugs, kisses, cuddling, hand-holding, etc TOO much to sacrifice that.

Wasting each other's time is the worst thing you could do, especially if your trying to grow to love your partner.. nothing has go wrong for you to just want to end things with him unexpectedly especially when you knew how you felt for him already in the beginning (potential regrets). Things could get better or worse over time. I agree with you on this Steph-fine😁. It won't work.

Yup. Agree 100%. Accepted an invite to see if I could grow to know him more. Granted, he’s a nice home, gentleman, humble, and so forth. Within 24 hours … I knew… there’s no attraction. It gets boring. Lesson well learned. Appreciated for his kindness, and welcomed me into his home. Knowing is good.

I haven’t even watched the whole thing but I agree with the title. I dated someone who isn’t what I typically go for, but he had other great qualities that I felt were what I am looking for. However, I noticed very quickly I was NOT attracted to him and against family opinions, I cut it off because I didn’t think it’d be fair to him or me in the long run.

I love this video!!! i have been with this kind loving and caring man for 3 years now! He´s in love with me but unfortunately i am not and never was in love with him. I feel like i just learned to tolerate him and feel so much gratitude towards him. But not real attraction, even though we have intimacy. I can not lie to my self i do care about looks! i want a man that when i look at him my eyes and my heart feels joy. I am very honest with him and i told him many times exactly how i feel about him but he still wants to continue this relationship. I have tried to end it many times but then we went back to each other because he is so kind to me and my son and probably because there is now one else i am interested in at the moment. I think i gave this man a chance because i got heartbroken twice and those guys were not kind people. Also felt kind of desperate because of my age. But i don´t really feel happy sometimes i feel so sad because he doesn´t look like my dream guy and i don´t feel stimulated when i look at him. Often i feel so bad and have strong guilty feelings because i feel this way about him and he is amazing person and deserves love and appreciation.

This seems to be on the other side of the spectrum of "if you get butterflies, he's not the one." There has to be balance in the triad of love connection, i.e. intimacy, passion, and commitment. Hoping to grow more into one aspect as the dominant basis of the relationship is not going to work. It feels so difficult to strike the golden balance in all three in this dating landscape, so sometimes people settle.

Thank you. I am of Indian origin and 46 years old. I never got married for all the reasons you talked about above, although I have made errors in my romantic relationships. Its just so nice to hear you speak this aloud as I have never been able to articulate it, but it also gives me reassurance in my decision to stay unmarried / enter relationships, when you have the majority of people around you telling you that you have to 'compromise' on these things.

What is described in this video is exactly what happened to me. Fell in love with my ex-husband for his potential. Thought I could help him realize it. He became very comfortable and lazy and I ended up shouldering most of the burden financially and at home. And he was exactly as Stephan says, very happy with his income. Very happy with my income and the lifestyle it afforded us. Very little self-motivation of his own. It is only now after I have filed for divorce that he's getting his act together as he realizes. Now he has to stand on his own two feet to make it in the world

Yes you can grow to love anyone, if they are nice and treat you well. But there must be an attraction for intimacy. I've also learned that you can love someone, but not like them one bit. And liking someone is more important for a relationship to last. Character flaws, secrecy, mean spirited are reasons to not like someone, and not even want them around you.

Very educational and entertaining podD. Wish I had gotten that advice when I was younger. Then I had avoided like the plague the two long relationships I had endured and left them at the first red flag. I understand why you are on the side of the women as opposed to other men on RU-vid who blame everything on the women for their failure. Thank you, yes I was sweeping things under the rug as they say for 13 years with someone because he had so many great qualities and I was hoping he was going to reach his potential especially in communication and ambition, but it never happened.I learned a lot and I'm appreciative of the relationship but I also overstayed because I was in denial.I also had a man be with me in another relationship where he said that he wanted to be with me because I was a great woman but that he needed to grow to love me emotionally, suffice to say that relationship didn't last.These are all the ways we settle for less than what we really desire and it is not fair or good for neither party.Thanks for all you do 🙏

Thanks Stephen for letting me know about your new video. I watch your video and thank you. Regarding your talk, I don't think any woman can marry without love and I think it is impossible. We don't live like three hundred years ago when some women were forced to marry. Fortunately, women are now free to choose. In my opinion, no sane woman would seek a motherly position for a man rather than a good partner. When a woman gets to the point of loving a man, she definitely accepts him as he is, and if there is something about his side that needs to be fixed or changed, then he is the one who should know how to fix or change it… nobody else. Also I have been watching your videos for a long time and as far as I know you are doing relationship coaching but all the videos I have seen lately are about men. I think it would be nice if you could make something about the other side that would teach men more about women as well.

Lots of marriages based on love don’t work either. If you’re in a non-abusive marriage, our kids expect us to sacrifice our happiness for theirs not the opposite way around. I don’t recommend you stay in a bad marriage. For the sake of your children, I believe that you work on your marriage to fix it.

When does the "love their potential" argument get pulled? I would say in some cases. Especially young, were not 100% developed or established in ourselves or in the world. Are those people not fit for a relationship?

My very lengthy comment disappeared after I made some changes to my settings. Not sure if that was a glitch or on purpose...if on purpose, sorry for posting something so long!! 🙂 100% with Stephan on this. A woman that's not attracted to a man is going to find it very hard to respond to him as he needs her to. It takes MUCH self-control to stay in the feminine and be respectful, forgiving, longsuffering, accepting, and submissive (something I know VERY little about...except with the right man....one I'm actually attracted to...but something many men seem to need). This self-control, IMO, can only be achieved when you're truly attracted to someone. Otherwise, it's just too much unnatural effort. With the right person though, even this sassy strong independent woman can submit and bite her tongue and let the man lead. Even when she wants to guide him, darn it. Sometimes he needs to do it on his own. REALLY hard to let a man do this, and possibly mess up, and still be proud of him...if there's no attraction. Almost impossible. (Hell, it's almost impossible for me when there IS intense attraction). Anyhow, thanks for the video.

Yes you can grow to love a person.. I did it long ago.. He was older, 39 - 22(me) , I wasn't attracted to him at all,, he came along and wanted me,, and did what it took to get me.. Next thing I know,, I'm loving this man,, ironing his clothes for him to go out,, learning how to cook his kind of food.. The sex was passionate, nice but quick. We did 7 yrs.. It was back in the day tho..

I love your videos but there are certain points I disagree, maybe I understand some points wrong. First of all dating apps show most women choose only 5-15% of men, based mostly of looks and social status, and if you claim women to focus on this genuine desire attraction you will set most women up lonly. I believe somewhat of attraction, connection, appreceation and willingness to work on yourself and the relation are base ingredians to love and successfull relationship. But genuine attraction might be a nice to have, but very unlikely. Second I disagree is that the attraction must be so high to maintain. Studies show for women the attraction falls down sharply after about 4-5 years, there may be evolutionary reasons, and you have to work on this and not be confused that there is something wrong. And what I think is a good way to start: the women needs to heal from past trauma and understand her toxic attraction points (bad boys) to find her true attraction points. I would also suggest women to stay away from this toxic social media apps where comparison with the filter images of other perfect women and the images of the fake perfect happy couples without any conflict are setting standards no one compete with.

Arrange marriages work only because of cultural reasons. Western culture is very different. Arrange ⚭ marriages are about financial stability, education and family caregiving with sometimes involved with a dawlry.

Let's not overlook the fact that arranged marriages were moved away from for important reason. It restricts autonomy & it's VERY difficult to get out of.
