She feels betrayed and realizes that if Naruto found out she was part of the Akatsuki, Naruto would never love her. She hides all the proof that she has to do anything with the Akatsuki

I feel like Kamui being a space-time/dimensional jutsu was as perfect as it could’ve been to explain why he’s so sneaky. It could be an ability or even unintended side effect derived from Kamui, that your body can hide it’s presence so well because it can literally phase in and out of this universe. How that didn’t occur to them, idk.

1. In that encounter, I highly doubt Hinata's first move would be to uncover the identity of a random masked guy. She probably used her byakugan to see Obito's chakra points which completely bypass his physical appearance. They enganged in a fight right away so I think she's way more focued on Obito's chakra flow. 2. Chakra signatures were based on someone's blood/DNA. Since the absorption of Hashirama cells, Obito's chakra signature completely changed. The chakra signature on Kakashi's sharingan has completely changed aswell so there were no similarities between him and Obito. The change is also the reason why Kakashi did not sense Obito's chakra signature.

Hinata not noticing the sharingan really is a massive plothole. Hinata wouldve told everyone and kakashi wouldve figured it out right there and wouldve come up with a plan in no time at all like he did in the war arc and they couldve actually beaten obito at that time

Imagine Hinata about to reveal something about Obito and as soon as she’s about to then Black Zetsu pops up and kidnaps her. That would’ve at least been interesting and engaging. Let’s go even further, you can even have a moment when Hinata is retrieved and a cool ass double page spread of her revealing that Obito is Madara while Obito reveals himself to be Madara later in the story.

it wouldnt even matter if the mask had some special property to make it impossible to see through, his eye wasnt covered so hinata should still be able to see its chackra and compare it to kakashis. Or what if she just saw his head from the side or the back? his mask doesnt wrap all the way around his head. it would only make sense if he had a special jutsu that obscured the byakugan, which unfortunately isnt in the story.

i think the biggest problem is that Ao who had a stolen byakugan was able to identify shisui's sharingan based on the chakra if i remember correctly, so why couldn’t Hinata who has seen kakashi plenty of times be like huh their sharingans have the same chakra plus their mangekyou looks the same. i cant remember the source if it is a databook or in manga/anime statement but neji in shippuden could see 800 metres and hinata can see 10km and 20km when she is an adult so how could she not see the sharingan in high detail when in normal person visual range.

My guess is it wasn't important at the moment to the cast since nobody would expect Obito of all people to be alive and Hinata wouldn't know how to explain to kakashi who already had a feeling on it If they had heinsight they'd probably have Hinata do it but even then like kakazu it's an Akatsuki member.

I think you are right the Hinata not seeing or not saying she cannot see Obito’s face is quite the gloss over, and it is missing a direct explanation at the end of the show . But I think this is a hindsight argument, Obito was in goofball mode until this point and was giving a minor antagonist even silly henchmen vibe, pointy out something was off would have elevated he to much more important too quickly. Only downside is this is an anime perspective where kakashi and obito backstory is shown later, I think the manga readers got the story early and some easily put the 1 and 1 together.

Even if Obito somehow made it so that his mask couldn't be seen through by the Byakugan, it still had a hole that both he and even a non-Byakugan user could see through. And not only DID a non-Byakugan user see his Sharingan through that hole, but he was also using that Sharingan throughout the fight. The mask see-through vision blocking explanation seems ad hoc and too convoluted to make sense, and it doesn't address the possibility or likelihood of a Byakugan user still happening to notice a Sharingan through the open eye hole from even up to the Byakugan's max viewing distance, WHILE the person in view is USING that Sharingan the whole time. No, a more reasonable explanation would be that Kishimoto was strongly invested in teasing yet retaining the mystery of this Sharingan user, and didn't think about how likely Hinata actually was to see through that mask before Kakashi or anyone else.

I got an idea for a video you could make, I always asked myself if someone could take and possibly implant the rinnegan from one of the six paths bodies? I can’t imagine the eyes vanishing just like that. At least you should get some kind of amp from them or only temporarily as the og rinnegan user could create a new path or just take control over you. see lots of questions and I believe many people asked themselves before. couldn’t find any video covering this topic

Obito, thanks to Madara, has a lot of knowledge regarding jutsus and the several clans' abilities. Therefore, it could be that his mask is made of a special material that can block the Hyugas' Byakugan.

I’m sure there are a lot of people with dark hair and messed up faces due to battle. Plus Kakashi thought Obito was dead so he would have no reason to think otherwise. The only thing that would have made sense is the Ao method where she could have determined that the chakra signatures of the eyes were the same. But even then it could just be said that she never really payed that much attention to Kakashi’s eye to be able to point out the resemblance. Either way there are too many factors in this. And a lot of this would just fall into us making assumptions and headcanon

Nice little idea but I think I got a far more agregious plot hole that happens in this very scene. Why doesn't Obito just trap Naruto in the Kamui dimension right here? They aren't in Konoha so Itachi's deal doesn't apply here. Obito could have jsut tried what he did agianst Minato ,trap Naruto in the Kamui dimension then steal the Nine Tails after they capture Killer Bee.

Didn't the manga and anime present the image the byakugan sees as a kind of X-ray? So hinata wouldn't know the details of obito's appearance, more his chakra inside his body, perhaps his internal organs with chakra points and of course she didn't know how Obito looks. Maybe she would be able to recognize the chakra in the eye as similar to Kakashi's sharingan chakra, but basically each eye had slightly different properties, so maybe the chakra was different too.

The answer is always the same with Naruto PLOTHOLES. There is no other reason.

So, the Byakugan capabilities is not that well explained. First, maybe it's true you can see trough the mask, but maybe it's incredible difficult to see trough exactly 2 cm of an object, that is probably moving, using Byakugan, requiring unattainable chakra control, or at least one that Hinata doesn't have. I mean, in the chuunin exam Neji saw trough a whole body and he had like 20-50cm error margin to see the paper. In the forest, Hinata just looked increasingly further away trough the trees, probably by increasing the chakra flow to her eyes, and in all instances of seeing the chakra network, it wasn't a clear picture, so it rather seem like seeing trough things and seeing chakra are 2 distinct Byakugan capabilities. Alternatively, it is also possible that the byakugan is more sensible to chakra then to light, so it's not really possible to see a person naked with the byakugan, you either see them normally or their chakra networks, as clothes are too close to their bodies. 2nd you can argue that maybe Hinata was simply not clever enough to gather information with the Byakugan in that encounter, or maybe she is so used to see trough stuff and too dumb to actual think the appearance of the enemy will help the village, for her he was another stranger and it can as well be Madara, you can't really understand the face of a person from a statue, especially one that was made after the fight from the memory of people knowing how Madara looked, maybe they nailed the hair-style and height relative to Hashirama, but I don't except to be able to sculpt a perfect face out of memory (and I also don't think they had pictures back then). I mean, even the faces of the Hokages are not so clear, and unless you know the person sculpted there you won't see the similarities, otherwise Naruto would have though "man, that kinda looks like me! I wonder why..." 3rd we know he doesn't have a whole Zetsu wrapped around him, but the mask could still be made by some kind of "Zetsu material", of course, it's not explained, but it kinda looks like it was made like that, maybe it's made from Zetsu like some kind of wood-work, and later he just painted it orange so it fits the Akatsuki uniform better. 4th regarding the attack on Konoha, I think you under-estimate how incredibly FAST everything happened, especially the fight with Obito, it was done in seconds. The only reason Minato managed to get there in time is because of his Flying Raijin jutsu. 5th It's incredible likely that the chakra of most Uchihas looks similar, as well as the chakra of the sharingan they are using, maybe if you are close enough as a Hyuuga and see 2 Uchiha members, you can tell that they have a different shade 6th Regarding Kakashi smell jutsu, first, I don't actually remember him using it with his nose, he just have the dogs he can summon, I mean, otherwise he wouldn't need to use summoning jutsu to track Sasuke and Naruto in Sasuke retrieval ark, the only way he could have a smell developed enough to tell people apart, would be if he used the sharingan on an Akimitchi clan member and learned how to concentrate and mold the chakra in his nose, which is possible for the Copy-Cat Ninja, and as far as we see, the smell jutsu of Akimichi si not really a kekkei genkai, but even if that was the case, he didn't had the sharingan until after the incident with the rock, so no. AND AND AND, you don't really let a smell trail if you teleport using Kamui, so it will take a lot of time for the wind and what-not to spread the smell, again, that was a very short fight. And lastly, regarding the different types of chakra in Obito, so, by having half of his body made of Hashirama cells, I'd say his chakra is pretty well mixed and have one shade, and if that shade is close to an Uchiha, then she can't say anything else then "hey, maybe that's an Uchiha!" I mean, it might be obvious when somebody else have the sharingan, that it has another chakra signature, but at least with the Byakugan I don't think you can see as much as telling 2 eyes apart, and the sharingan of Obito was his, so she shouldn't see anything weird in his right eye. I mean sure, if she could say "wait up boys! let's do something fun, Kakashi and musk-guy, can you stay close to each-other, I want to see how similar your eye color is", and everyone listened, sure, maybe she could figure it out it's the same eye, but again, don't forget this is a fight. And it's not like she's obsessed with Kakashi to remember the exact details of the chakra in his left eye. If Obito chakra was, let's say, all orange, and then he had blue chakra in his right eye, then maybe she could think that it is weird, and then remember something similar about Kakashi, and then investigate further to see if there are any differences, but just seeing a guy with his normal chakra, idk. And there are better explanation then some magical clothing, you can say that Kamui can erase the user chakra signature, which seems plausible, given that it pretty much responds instantanously to attacks, I don't think it's humanly possible to use Kamui just on the precise part of the body affected by an attack, so it kinda has some abilities of it's own, maybe it sends the chakra signature in the Kamui dimension and somehow the jutsu uses that to instantly teleport anything that gets into contact with it, which makes sense, because as the Kamui is explained for Obito, he pretty much have only 2 options: pass trough everything or be solid, so maybe he must bring his chakra signature back from Kamui to be able to make physical contact, yes, Hinata should see this if he's attacking, but I don't remember he did in that fight.

There was one character that attacked chakra points without the Byakugan, Shira the sand shinobi that Lee fought in the second chunin exams.

White Zetsu mimics other people's chakra signatures perfectly. So, that isn't a way to debunk that. It even mimics Chakra Pathways. These points were brought up during the Great Ninja War. Byakugan sees Chakra Flow and Chakra Pathways, it doesn't have X-Ray Vision, but Byakugan users can see things within the radius of their sight. So it couldn't just see through the mask, either.

I fail to see how knowing the identity of the guy was relevant. How was that going to help them at that moment?

Even the base version can cause visual illusions and if the byakugans 360 vision still counts as eye contact he could be using some king of visuel genjutsu on her to make himself look different and mess with her vision to make everything look normal (preventing her from seeing the hashirama cells) we really dont know how the 2 interact to know for sure. We did see a cave in 1 episode of the war arc where the cave screwed with the byakugan maybe the mask caused similar issues or a combination of both.

I'm putting Hinata on the fraud watch, how do you get Obito's face and not inmediately go to Ino or Inoichi to have the memory recovered and projected. Also I just realized that Ino has a jutsu that hard counters obito's intangibility but is just too weak to do anything.

it doesn't matter that she could see through the mask, she didn't know who obito is nor who madara is and she didn't know how they look. On top of that she didn't know that a massive rock fell on obito years ago. Having half his face 'destroyed' (that's a strong word) is not something so distinct in the shinobi world that she'd start running around screaming that half his face looks WEIRD. What's even the point of a mask when transformation jutsu exists?

I’ve never really understood this complaint, hinata didn’t know what madara or obito looked like and didn’t even know who obito is in general. Also if he’s claiming to be madara, well madara had two sharingan so that would be expected so her not saying anything isn’t crazy lol.

You know as boring as it is you explained the reason quite simply: he has obscuring jutsu that applies to his person much like how he had that seal on his heart so Madara could control him if he betrayed the latter. You pointed out numerous sensory shinobi and powerful characters literally couldn't see the guy unless he made himself known. I mean Occam's razor right? It's like asking why Lee couldn't beat Gaara despite how much if a hard worker is by comparison. Stronger abilities negate inferior ones, it makes even more sense when you think about how Itachi wasn't able to make the connection of sharigan between Obito and Kakashi.

I never understood why there was no long range Hyuga corps. Considering they can see infinitely further than anyone else in the naruto verse. They could potentially destroy enemies before they even get near the village.

I recall Neji having trouble making out what was on the other side a boulder in the Kazekage retrieval arc and his Byakugan should be better than hers. So even if she could see through it maybe it was hard for her to make sense of the face she was looking at.

He probably put a seal on his mask to combat the Byakugan. Hashirama cells may have changed Obito's body chemistry thus changing his smell

Doesnt make since that people assume she would know who Obito is or his relation to Kakashi. She would've been like 3 last time he was in the village (not counting the 9-tails attack). I could see her still looking and also looking at his chakra but why would she be looking at Kakashi's to notice the similarity, she doesnt train with him, rarely goes on missions with him, barely ever encounters him? Is she supposed to know every chakra signature in the village? Furthermore should she try to ID everyone with more than one chakra signature, I bet there are a lot of people with more than 1. The medical staff treat people by using their own personal chakra so it makes sense that everyone coming out the hospital has at least 1 extra chakra signature (if not more) from a medical ninja for at least a short period of time. Plus everyone with limb or organ transplants would have a permanent 2nd charka signature. Or anyone carrying an item infused with the chakra of someone else like the necklace Naruto got from Tsunade. If multiple chakra signature were a big deal Naruto should've been blowing peoples minds, at one point he had the chakra of Kurama, Kushina, Minato, Shisui as well as that necklace then he traded all those to get the chakra of all the tailed beast plus 6 paths sage and his own meaning 11 different chakra's in 1 person.

This was a good video. One of the main kinda feelings you got from Tobi was who was this guy? Could it be? Why is it that this guy almost doesn't exist? He was undetectable so it would have empowered the mystery more if Hinata further backed that up in this encounter. Good job :)

Could just be that the Byakugan can only see chakra signatures when it looks through things, so it didn't see his body. Still weird that there wasn't a note on his chakra network disappearing as it phased out, but yeah.

i am not sure here, but while watching the series i did hear obito discussing with someone that his mask is made of white zetsu's material which means no one can look through it. not even byakugan............

The Byakugan not being able to see what's behind Tobi's mask and clothes is actually pretty consistent. Right before the war arc started, Anko was looking for Kabuto with her team and they actually found him. One of the team members, who btw had a Byakugan, noticed Tobi in the hideout but from what we can see in the anime, Tobi's face was still covered in the Byakugan vision.

One thing to keep in mind is that due to the way Zetsu's chakra-absorbption works the Byakugan isn't effective against it. It takes a special sensory type like Naruto's Nine Tails chakra to detect it (even Sage Mode wasn't effective enough). Therefore, it would look like a ordinary looking dude with normal chakra to Hinata

My thought was that most of the time the Byakugan is in effect it jumps from surface level to internal organs and veins. So maybe she went from seeing a mask for just his chakra network and not his physical appearance

Dygo, i think youre over complicating things than they should be. I personally dont agree with your conclusions. There is no known fact that states both sharingan have the exact same chakra signatures, and it makes sense that they will be similiar but not identical. Both sharigan awakenings have different abilities, certainly the charka it gives off needs to different. Similiar but not a 100% copy, if it was 100% copy id expect both eyes to have the exact same abilities. But because we know theyre different, it makes sense for them to be with a different chakra signature. Also the reason they were able to recognize shuisis sharingan was because they seen it in the past. The bykaugan user saw it in the past. Its not necessarily mandatory that if he saw only one eye, hed knew the second belonged to him. Also, the entire looking under the mask is pretty stupid. If obito seems to have the skills to back up his claim of being madara, why would they doubt him? So what if his chakra is a mess, or he has face marks, it wont really change the perspectives of everyone about being madara. The only way they knew how madara looks is by a old statue, low quality at that. And things happen, if i were to visit you one day and the next day with a scar, you wouldnt be saying im someone entirely. My claiming to be me, would be sufficent to believe who i am..

It has been stated that there are components that mess with the byakugan’s visual abilities. It’s not difficult to imagine Tobi using that to make his mask/uniform.

Am posting this before watching the full video, but Something people miss about the Byakugan, is that it's abilities are reletive. The user has to be know what they're looking for. Also Hinata doesn't know what madara or Obito looked like. The Byakugan has so many visual abilities, that using them all at once would fuck anyone up. But Hinata Nor Neji would recognize the difference between Madara and someone claiming to be him.

I would say no mainly because Anbu are required to hide there Identity and the Byakugan makes that pointless unless the village has special masks that can stop the Byakugan from seeing through it. So i would say that Obito's mask is most likely made the same way.

She should've been able to see him active kamui since they can see the chakra network and see the eye chakras light up... So this is a fair point.

The Byakugan's penetration power isn’t absolute. Aside from ninjutsu, there are materials that can block it. Obito's masks are probably made of such materials. He was from Konoha after all, so of course he'd know how to hide his identity from the Byakugan. Even if Hinata could see through the rest of Obito's body, she had never met a white Zetsu or known about Hashirama's cells at that point, so that information would've been of little help. Finally, the Sharingan... Hinata is obviously familiar with Kakashi's Sharingan, but not necessarily with his Mangekyo. And, IIRC, Ao only recognized Shisui's Sharingan when Danzo used Shisui's special Genjutsu. It's possible that Hinata didn't connect the dots because she was unfamiliar with Kamui.

Up until the kakashi's sharingan there could be an eplanatiın. Fİrst one is the fact that Obito and half of the zetsu been living tıgether for more than 15 years together thus their whole existence become one in chakra perspectives so she could not percieve the difference between real and zetsu body parts. And about the mask and face one thing i can think of is the Ninja code and honor to not look under someones mask before its unmasked in battle rightfully. But theres no saving the kakashi and obitos Sharingan having the same Chakra trail.
