Find out why I don't deep condition every wash day. Deep conditioning is massive in the natural hair community right now but I'm still retaining length and my hair is the healthiest and thickest it has ever been.

Sister in the Lord indeed!! 🥰 I love this style and chat vibe! Would you consider doing that when you’re just doing your normal protective styling for the week? I so appreciate what you’re doing with your channel. It’s nice to be growing my hair with someone in real time. 😊 Your hair turned out beautiful!! ❤️ I may try that next year. Thanks for sharing!!

Hey 👋🏾 amen! Hope you saw your name in the vid too 🎉🎉. I appreciate your regular contribution. You make a good point because it was quite quick to install. Probably about an hour after doing all my partings. The only challenge for me is I don't feel like I have great access to my hair to remoisturise it under the flat twists. But it's a nice pretty style as a one off for me. Hopefully you do get to try it ☺️

I did see the shout out, I appreciated that!! 🥰 I almost missed it cause at first I was just listening, but went back to view the video so I could see your hairstyle! 😅 But what I meant was would you consider doing a chat video while you did your regular routine, the way you normally wear your twists and plaits? I hope that makes sense. I enjoyed the chatting about hair while watching you do yours. It’s like a virtual conversation with the girls. 🌺

@@A_Wilson ohhhh sorry I misunderstood. Yes definitely i'd consider that. Those videos end up much longer though (like this one). Maybe doing voice overs would be easier but yeah I'll have a think about how I can do those and keep them short. Thanks for the idea 💡😊

When transitioning from a stretched style and you care about heat damage, i find pre pooing actually matters more than deep conditioning at the end. Allowing ur curls to sit wet enough to fully revert is very helpful… Beyond that, it’s when i get time. I think there’s time limits on bottle (5-15min) for a reason. Sometimes a simple shower is just enough.

I totally agree! A quick application whilst in the shower is enough for me - as an when I feel my hair needs it. Certainly not every time I wash it.

I don't deep condition point blank. I just noticed my hair never suffered if i didn't do it. I only deep condition if i'm straightening my hair. Also i got into Black hair care during the 2000s on Black hair forums and forums really encouraged a see what works for you but follow the rules first as a foundation. So i deep conditioned for a bit, sealed my ends with oils for a bit but realised my hair didn't care either way or disliked oils. I find it interesting seeing advice and techniques that got pushed on forums back in 2005 being interpreted on RU-vid because the way its applied on current social media is always much strict with a loss of context than on hair forums or why people did it. Maybe if i had a more drying hair routine i might need to deep condition. Hasn't stopped my from being waist length or beyond for the past decade ( minus when i've cut it) and before that around bra strap length after the advice on hair forum finally got me past shoulder length Daily and semi weekly moisturising of has been enough for my hair if i moisturise if properly on wash day.

This is such a good point. It shouldn't be a directive, but more of a "try it and see if your hair needs it or doesn't". It's great that you've learned what your hair absolutely needs compared to what your hair may or may not benefit from.

With african black soap, it you don't dilute it it can be stripping so adding stuff to it is a good call. My DYI days are behind me lol Red Ken all soft shampoo works too well to make me stop mixing anything up again. With length retention what is KEY for someone getting past a plateau can be different: for some its moisturising their hair more, for others its what they go on wash day etc its usually a combination of how you detangle, how you style and how you keep your hair moisturised. Each one of my hair length plateaus had a different issue and solution. For my hair the first one was solved by not combing and detangling daily and my next was when applying moisturiser on wash day making sure i work the product into my strands until you can't it anymore and my curls clump ( similar to the praying hands motion but my hands are cupped ) and not using thick heavy moisturising products. I understand what the least amount of care i can give my hair and keep it at my desired length and i think that's something most never discover. I know myself and know that i will never "do the most" lol that's half the reason i don't deep condition so i had to work around myself. I don't have the energy i did as a teen on hair forums to try everything. Im a big advocate for following the rules before breaking them so you can understand what exactly doesn't work before jumping on a viral hair hack or product. For most the issue is what you're doing before its a hair product.

Haha DIY days behind you. Fair enough. I imagine it gets a bit long after a while. That's interesting, I just released a video on length plateaus. Are you saying you had quite a few plateau stages? That's quite new to me. Really appreciate your thorough comment sharing your journey and your experiences 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

@@Natural2020_ Hey! I'm long winded so i can't help lol.Yes i've had different plateaus, some more significant than others. I might have commented on the hair plateau video, i don't remember. The hardest was getting past arm pit length. My hair would hover around my shoulders and after i started healthy hair practices my hair was healthier and got longer but was stuck at arm pit length for years. Mostly because even though i was using protective styles and moisturising my hair, i was detangling my hair daily lol i was a teenager and very hardheaded, even after the women on hair forums kept saying don't do that. I had to find out myself. I had such a negative view of what my hair could do and back then and my protective style was buns, as no one was really using twists or plaits the way it is now. Once my life got busy i stopped detangling my hair in-between wash days and noticed when i was in the shower where my wet hair was on my body. From that point my hair was mid back length for years and i was happy but wanted waist length but didn't change much. Just like my first plateau i got over this by accident. I changed moisturiser and stopped using thick heavy oily products. For my hair it was too much, thick hair butters like mango butter sealed in dryness in my hair and i wasn't have the results others were. I also noticed that my hair was more hydrated if i made sure the moisturiser was smoothed into my strands until the product was fully absorbed ( only on freshly washed hair though ) and my curls clumped together. The moisturising session after i wash my hair is the most significant, if i do that properly i can be lazy during the week. That's who i got to waist length. Whenever i'm hip length, its periods when im very consistent with my hair and what i've been finding lately, if im mostly wearing plaits or twists. Usually my hair is waist length but since wearing plaits and twist, its hip length without lots of split ends. I used to get to hip length then have to cut it because of split ends. I still love my buns i understand i need to have a week or two where my hair is in plaits or twists or my hair splits

@@Nottiy thank you for explaining. That is so interesting to hear about your different plateaus and how you overcame each of them. I love that. I can hear that sometimes our hair can respond differently at different lengths. So I'll be looking out for that as mine gets longer over the years. Thanks again for responding 😊
@Nottiy
@Nottiy 15 дней назад
@@Natural2020_ Definitely our hair response to things different at different lengths. There's things i can do at waist length that causes length retention issues when its shorter. I've cut my hair shortish before since learning to look after my hair so i know its not just hair practices. I feel like its easier to keep my hair moisturised when its longer vs shorter. Long hair doesn't seem to need re-moisturising as much. My hair is dry right now lol

I take care of three of my son's hair, and all I do is wash with any regular shampoo, add grease , and twist. And all of them have , thicker, healthier hair than mine. We are all at the same length, which is mid back, only my hair looks like I need a big shop because I've tried all the crap I've seen on utube. Now I'm done. It's shampoo grease and twist or plats for me. Our hair does not need anything extra to be at its best! Take it from me.
