Welcome to this natural hair growth journey. I'm growing my type 4 natural hair from shaved to tailbone length within 7 years! I've never had long hair and I'm full black. This channel will show you how none of that matters. With consistency and a good routine, you too can grow your hair longer!

I totally agree I started twist this year and my hair had become thicker than ever plus longer. I usually braid three times then do twists. Do you just twist them or braid and also if you do just twist them how do you manage to keep them in for longer than a week?
@@qyoff748 Gooood point, I should have mentioned that in the vid. I do plait the root, that helps to keep them neat. Also the front ones and the back ones I do tend to redo just for neatness but I just leave the rest 😊 that's awesome news though about your hair growing and getting thicker. Yay!!
I wore mini twists and mini braids before locking my hair. They definitely helped retain length and were so convenient! If I ever comb out my locs, I’ll be going back to that.
@@2013lovemy you're right! They really are convenient. Ah congrats on your locs journey. If there was an ultimate style to retain length, it's probably locs lol.
@@Natural2020_ Thank you! Yes, I’m loving the length retention. I just wish my hair was a little thicker. Overall, very happy with them though. Your vid made me miss my mini braid/twist days!
I have been wearing my hair in twists (with extensions) for the past 6 weeks, and I loved them. I was re-twisting and washing every 2 weeks. My hair is broken off in the back, which is why I used the extensions, but I can say that I have noticed some growth in that area. Going to try a new style today, just to save some time from reinstalling the twists.🙂
@@qayyaksmith3652 hey good question. I reapply flaxseed gel every time I remoisturise. So it ends up being about twice a week. But occasionally if it's not a good batch and it's not hardening around my hair for very long, I may go ahead and reapply it again. So usually twice a week but it could be up to three times if the gel isn't holding well.
Hey Sis! 👋☺️ I will say I’ve been enjoying my twists since I converted them from my plaits. They are much quicker to moisturize and I have less scalp showing. I also keep them stretched at night by banding my hair with satin scrunches. I think I may keep them in the next 6 months. It’ll be interesting to see if I notice less or the same in length retention. My wash day is still in plaits though. 😅😂
@@A_Wilson Heya! Good shout about stretching your twists, because that shrinkage has a life of its own. It's great that you recognise wash day works best in plaits. We always have to do what's best for our hair.
Nope, not buying. My hair is finally retaining length & I’m sticking to what‘s working. Will change products only if something is no longer works. But won’t be Fenty or Beyoncé products . They got enough money. I rather spend on natural hair brands who are small business owners
I rarely put flaxseed gel on my edges. I just tried that as a one off to see if it would slick them down without white residue and surprisingly it did. I put the gel on my ends regularly. I'd say around two times a week. Basically, every time I remoisturise my hair, I will apply flaxseed gel.
Relaxers have done so much psychological damage to women in the black community. I find that many black people accept black men’s natural hair (and still think of them as sexy) but not their own. And many women who still choose to relax till this day don’t care about the severity of what the chemical does to your scalp. I’ve heard of a woman who had it burn through her skull. That’s a nightmare!
Hey, hmm. It's hard to say really but a few typical culprit would be: how do you typically wear your hair? Is the back rubbing on your clothes, pillows, chairs or anything like that? Do you keep it in a protective style? Do you wash and moisturise your hair regularly?
@@Natural2020_ mostly I sleep on my back maybe that could be the reason,, it's always in a protective style because I'm trying to retain length plus I do moisturize.
@@lwendobanda2986 maybe that's it. But if your hair is covered with a satin or silk scarf, I wouldn't have thought sleeping on your back would prevent length retention. Have you tried hair growth oils and massaging daily? If not, you could try doing that regularly for a about a month and see if you notice even a small difference.
The nape of my head has been really thinning. I believe the culprit to actually be, wearing my scarves to tight. Started using a satin pillow case instead, and I am seeing some improvement.
Free in Christ indeed!! I’ve been getting my coils altered since I was 4 years old in some way. First I was getting my hair straightened with a hot comb on the stove. Around 4th or 5th grade, I started getting Jheri curls. Around 7th grade is when I started getting relaxers. No matter the method, the psychological message was the same…my natural coils were not okay to be seen. I had that “rough stuff”, as my aunt used to say. My hair remained relaxed till I was 36 years old. I started seeing ladies return to their natural hair and LOVED IT for them, but thought I could NEVER look nice with my natural hair. Then I started developing a small bald spot in the front and center part of my edges. I had to comb my hair a certain way to conceal it. My friend asked me if I had ever seen a woman with her natural hair and thought she shouldn’t have done that…I said NO, and she said likewise for you. That was 10 years ago. Returning to our natural hair is waaaaayy deeper than just the aesthetic of it. It literally causes us to peel back and handle sone deep insecurities, old wounds passed down through generations. I literally just started loving my hair within the past year. Even though I’ve been natural for years, doing my hair was a chore, but now it’s a privilege. I had to remember the One who created me designed me with tight coils, and He doesn’t make mistakes. He said His creation was good. If He thought I was good, who am I to think any different? Returning natural is a whole journey. Now ladies are having to lay down the wigs and attachments the way we had to lay down the relaxers. What a multi layered topic this is! Sorry for this dissertation!! 😅 Thanks for this video! 💕❤️
Your dissertation was sooooo spot on though! It absolutely has been passed down through generations. Your friend made such a good point! When I first went natural my hair was totally shaved, so I had these lovely natural waves in my hair that were so shiny. But as my hair grew longer those waves couldn't be seen anymore, just frizz lol. So I had to learn to love that element of my hair, realising this is how God created me. It's a great thing we've come to the place we are now and we can help to educate others about their hair.
Hey Sis! I agree. That used to be me, running up and trying so much! Now that I know what works, which is mostly natural and plant based products, I get a little anxious just thinking about trying something new! 😂
Honestly I have been on a natural hair journey for years. My first one started in 2012 to 2015, the second one was 2017 to 2023 when I messed up with the textlax. I said that to say this : throughout my journey nothing and I mean NOTHING that was targeted for my natural hair in the natural hair market worked for me ! So I will not be wasting my time or money on anymore products they have. I found something that works for me after years of trying and I am sticking with it.
Hey! 💖Glad to have you here. I've never been patient enough to deal with transitioning I have a habit of just freely cutting my hair 🤣but keep going! Being natural is easy when you've got a solid routine that works for you and your lifestyle.
Hey beautiful love your hair. I’m seeking advice I’ve started to notice my hair at the back is starting to thin and as much as I’ve done the big chops going bald, having hair start disappearing like that is new to me. I’m not stressed I workout and have a healthy lifestyle. Is there any tips you can give me. One thing I can say what’s changed in maintenance is wearing a bonnet every night to be and I never used to I would just anyhow but now since wearing it my back hair is thinning and I’m sure bonnets are meant to protect. So sorry for the long message but please help ❤
Hey! Thank you for your comment 🙂 Funny I was going to do a short on this soon. See I have a bonnet and mine has cotton/elastic around the edge to keep it on my head. But I will always fold that bit over so only the silk/satin material is ever touching my hairline and not the cotton. So if yours has anything like that you could try folding it over. But since it's already thinning, you could try remoisturising the back a little more often, maybe adding scalp massages if you don't do them already and maybe a hair growth oil if you use oils. Try and keep the back protected as well, meaning keep it as clumped together as possible (twists, plaits etc) and tuck it away so it's never rubbing on your clothes, car seat, chairs etc. I hope that helps.
Hey Sis!! I just subscribed from my other channel since my primary channel is acting funny about me subscribing to others. I wanted to be sure you got a new subbie. ❤ I love your hair by the way.
When transitioning from a stretched style and you care about heat damage, i find pre pooing actually matters more than deep conditioning at the end. Allowing ur curls to sit wet enough to fully revert is very helpful… Beyond that, it’s when i get time. I think there’s time limits on bottle (5-15min) for a reason. Sometimes a simple shower is just enough.
You can also inspect the hair that falls out for a bulb at the end. Shed hair will have a whiteish bulb at the end, if not, then it's most likely breakage.
My plateau has been shoulder length. I have very fine strands, medium density. Even though every single porosity test result indicated my hair was low porosity, when I started treating it like high porosity, I started maintaining more length. I had to add protein treatments. I also believe tucking my ends away and double sealing my ends (flaxseed or botanical gels) helped.
I have heard that the porosity tests aren't really accurate, but that's good that you were able to discover it anyway. Sounds like you're doing well on your journey 🙂
Trust me, it takes years to have waist length hair. I’m waist to hip length it took me 8 years and every one else i see on video, it took them some time. Initially it grows fast, then it slows down, but still grows as the years go by. Good luck with your journey 🎉❤
Oh gosh 8 years from waist to hip. I guess everybody's hair grows at different rates but I'm also setting realistic goals, plus opposite to you I've seen many women get to tailbone length in a similar time scale to what I'm expecting and quicker. But I do hear what you're saying, hair begins to behave differently as it gets longer and thicker so I look forward to navigating those changes 😊
@@Natural2020_ Now that I’m thinking, yours would take less, to be at your hips, as I did a big chopped 8 years ago. So it’s like starting from 1 inch. I know exactly as it was just after the birth of a baby in our family and she is 8 now. Lol. Yours is already is way longer. So it will take you less to reach your goal, but I’m sure not in one year’s time. Then again you never know, everyone hair is different and with proper care anything is possible. Lol. All the best. 💕
@@MH-hw4uh Oh you meant it took 8 years from your big chop to hip length. That definitely sounds about average. This channel is documenting my growth from shaved to tailbone length in 7 years. I'm four years into the journey so I'm on track.
My plateau is at the collar bone. You and your channel are a blessing! I'm officially subscribed and let you know my progress. I am now in a protective style I will keep in all summer. Your hair looks beautiful Sis!!! Thanks again for your contnent. All the best! 💖💖🙏🏾💖💖🙏🏾✊🏾💕
