Omar tells us that life is complicated. People work, people play. Photographers are people, Omar is a photographer so he is also a people, um, a person! So he works, he plays. He has tools for his work, he has toys to play. Tools can be used to play, toys can be used for work. We subscribers see all of Omar's world, and very lucky we are.

I am a former Nikon film shooter who went with Fuji for the size (and the results!). Also, gosh darn it, the XT 2 ( IMHO) is a sexy little camera that's fun to use. But my son uses Canon gear and we borrow each other's equipment. I believe that whatever works for you is just fine. If we all liked the same things, this world would be a very boring place.

My wife is not a photographer or into it really, but she refused to let me sell my 5d3 of all things. Had to lay it all out on a table for her to go "oooh. When you put it this way it is a ridiculous number of cameras". 4 (m43, ef, efm, sony e) different digital mounts, trying to reduce that to 1.

Sometimes professional photographers forget that this always starts as a hobby for all of us. We all started taking photos for fun and if we eventually blessed to turn this into our career, the fun aspects can sometimes diminish. I took up film again and shoot the little Canon EOS M cameras for "me" as well. I love it! I also love not traveling on vacations with $3000-6000 worth of heavy gear I make my living with! Haha

It's not that you are saying that shooting with Fuji is crap. Having multiple cameras for multiple purposes is a great idea and also expands your knowledge in photography. Sticking with just one brand is fanboy/girl fanatism.

True. I think the problem is when people defend a brand blindly...without realizing everyone's needs and likes are different.

This was a good video. The interesting thing for me is that I bought an expensive full frame Canon DSLR and failed to learn photography as I had hoped. I just didn't take the camera around and photograph enough with it. I just remember it having a substantial learning curve, so I always stayed in Auto mode and when I didn't... well, the results were bad and I didn't always know why. The camera was replaced by a smart phone, which resulted in more photos and emphasizing composition. Then, a couple of years later, I decided to buy an inexpensive Fuji APS-C camera -- the XT-2. And, I found myself taking photos all the time, mastering the exposure triangle, and learning a lot about photography. I suppose from a technical perspective that the full-frame Canon takes better photos -- but I haven't touched it since I got the Fuji because I take better photos with the Fuji in every way that actually counts. The cameras just make me a better photographer. I'm hoping someday Fuji will come out with a full frame camera that is still fairly small, but has a bigger handle. But, for now, I bet I can't resist getting an XT-4 in a month or two.

I shoot with the Fujifilm system and can tell you why I would not use it for professional work without caring about upsetting the fanboys. Low light autofocus is not great in single point and in continuous auto focus forget about it. Eye auto focus is way behind Sony and now canon. For static subjects in good lighting eye auto focus works fine but for moving or lowlight no good. Fuji underexposes compared to the competition by half a stop, combine that with worse high iso noise and already less image detail compared to full frame, makes the Fuji a poor choice for low light photographers. Full frame sensor’s capture a shallower depth of field which is desirable for many photography applications. And full frame sensor’s capture more image color depth, more shadow detail and more resolution. All of this information is not subjective it’s factual so stop trying to make excuses that somehow it’s not true or somehow is not important. Fuji is a lightweight fun camera to shoot with good quality lenses at a cheaper price and lighter weight than full frame, that is why I shoot Fujifilm for me too but not for professional work. Their I said it for you Omar so you don’t have to take the wrath, lol.
@ogonzilla
@ogonzilla 4 года назад
Oh man...I love this. And agree as well. Yes...Fujifilm is fun for me, but you hit the head. GUYS...YELL AT THIS GUY!!! Joking aside. True...side-by-side with my full frame photographs...sadly the XT2, XT20 lose...by quite a bit. Canon was a $3400 camera though...Fujiflm $899...... Sure clients won't notice the differences... but I do.

I could surely be wrong, but if someone gets angry with you or stops liking you because of the brand of camera you use they have far bigger problems than photography gear issues. I thoroughly enjoy your work and the tongue-in-cheek manner in which you present it. Life is far too short to get spring loaded in the ticked-off position over this stuff! Great video! I shoot Canon for work/business, and although I do take an M50 with me a lot for family stuff, I still love walking around the city with my x100f. I just enjoy both systems. The m50 is a bit more flexible, so it does get the ‘carry everywhere’ designation, but when I just want to shoot some street photos, and not be noticed, I often take the x100f. Keep shooting!

I get it. I love my XT-3 and have used it for outdoor environmental portraits..however, I lean on my A7R4 in studio. Main reason....Dynamic range in low light and strobes. I can pull far more information from the shadows in post than I can with the XT-3. Both bodies rock, IMHO but each has their place.

I use Canon, Fujifilm and Sony cameras. I will say the best camera I’ve ever shot with is the Fujifilm XT1 and XT3. I was gradually selling my Canon gear bit by bit, then WHAM!!, I bought a Canon5DSr out of the blue. Where did that come from. 50 megapixel baby!. Fujifilm is definitely my favourite though. Did I mention I work at Fujifilm.

I used to shoot events and was rocking a Canon system. Eventually I got a day job, then bought a house, and we had a child. At that point my Canons remained in bags unused for years. My point is once photography no longer became my source of income, and life took over, I wasn't shooting anymore. Last year I made a conscious effort to start shooting again, and decided to sell off my Canon gear to buy into the Fujifilm system. I'm loving the X-T20 on a hobbyist level, and your previous Fujifilm videos have been great lessons to help learn the system. Thanks for all those, and after using Fujifilm for nearly a year I certainly understand why you don't use them for professional work but to shoot for you.

Omar, all the REAL photographers out there get exactly what you're talking about. I shoot Fujifilm, primarily for me. I use it for street photography and I'm soon to make it my only digital ecosystem for my professional work. I currently use a Panasonic LUMIX for that. But I also shoot with Minolta and Canon rangefinders with film. You buy and use the tool that fits your needs. The primary reason I'm leaving Panasonic, or better yet have left Panasonic is that the gear is too technical and doesn't inspire me to shoot artistically. I decided I wanted to use an overall ecosystem that both inspired me to shoot and worked well with my film workflow. All of my film camera lenses work with my Fuji cameras flawlessly. I shoot manual 90% of the time so autofocus is not a big deal for me. Don't get me wrong autofocus is nice to have but I don't rely on it. For me, shooting manual has made me a better photographer. That said, keep doing what you do. Your REAL followers love your channel. I do have one question, why the photo of the MLK memorial at the end of this video? I'm perplexed. LOL

Well said Omar. I do not shoot professionally full time but more of a part time thing to try and pay for my love of photography. Therefore, I only shoot Fujifilm but I personally have noticed that when I am making photos for money I enjoy it a whole lot less than when I am doing it for myself. So....I totally get where you are coming from. I am fortunate in that I make a pretty comfortable living with my regular job so even if I am not really making much (if any) money with my photography I can still purchase and use the gear that gives me the most joy. For me that is Fujifilm (at the moment). I am not saying that it is any better or worse than the other brands but it is the gear that I most enjoy using. I will say that I have not tried any of the Sony gear as when I made the switch to Fujifilm the Sony system was not quite fleshed out yet. Maybe I will give it a try next? Keep up the great content and I think you are a very talented photographer as well. I love that you are not afraid to show the stuff that wasn't really good along with the great stuff.

To those that are interested in event photography with Fuji and this video caused any kind of doubt ("Is he not telling us the real reason he does't fuji, is it because they suck, is it because they aren't enough?").I do concert photography (meaning that if I ever use flash I get kicked out of the venue and press pass suspension for a couple of months) for over two years now under a press company and Fuji is far from enough as long as you are okay with working with primes or super expensive zoom lenses and as long as you are fine with carrying a ton of batteries or being concious about battery life. I started with a Fuji X-Pro 1 and it was fine, that's the lowest you can start with, so yeah some people just prefer to keep Fuji gear for personal use only.

Love what you have said in this video. I am an XH1 user and a beginner coming from phone photography but I love the feel of just feeling engaged just shooting with this camera , and for me that is what photography is. Just getting out there and enjoying your shots while discovering the camera. Don't need the bells and whistles, just want a fun experience that gets me the shots that I am happy with. I feel that is what it should all be about unless photography is your business or income. Then there will always be a better and more feature packed camera. But as a hobbiest I am just having fun and Fuji has provided that , and even elevated my passion for photography :)

Just because I sold my Nikon FF system for the X-T3 system (I have my reasons) doesn't mean I don't like other systems. If I were rich enough, I would have a Nikon, Canon & Sony, but I'm not rich. My Fuji has exceeded my expectations for sure, but every system has it 'pro's & con's'. There is NO perfect camera or lens! Although, my X-T3 w/ my 16mm f/1.4 is, well, as perfect as it comes for me,. I still wish I were rich though! Your explanation of why you don't use it professionally IS 'perfect'.

I agreed. Fujifilm system really a family/personal system. camera that you can bring everywhere.

I just got my first decent camera (Fuji XT-30) and my mentality is similar to yours. Fuji will be my hobbyist photography focused, family camera for it's strengths (size, colors, vibe). In the future tho, I'm going to get a Sony for Videography/content creator video stuff for it's strengths (autofocus, video stability, sharp + clear pics & vids). I don't think I'll ever do paid/professional photography, but most likely I'd use a Sony system (unless I'm going for stylized Fuji colors/film sim photos.) Just like with music gear, and everything else, the tools and gear really depend on the person and their use case.

You use Canon (and used Sony) for pro work because they have better cameras for that, nothing wrong with that.You certainly don't need to apologize for that. I also have Canon (for over 30 years) and Fuji and wouldn't use Fuji for pro work (I use Fuji for the same reasons you do) and have no problem with that, on the other hand I don't have a youtube channel dedicated mostly to Fuji 😀.

I've had a Canon DSLR for four years and just got a Fuji last Fall. I thought I would slowly transition from one system to another but discovered I enjoy both for different reasons and will be keeping both. Ain't nothin' wrong with juggling systems.

DSLR's are no fun to lug around when you're doing personal work. Totally get it. I also think there is a general public perception that you're not a professional unless you're carrying a 5lb camera with a 6" or longer lens protruding from it. Personally I have two mirrorless cameras (one Canon and one Fuji) and a Nikon DSLR with an assortment of lenses and it's still hard to wrap my head around the fact that the mirrorless cameras can do everything the DSLR can do and do it better. Size matters at least in perception

Love your channel! I agree with you I use my Sony for professional use and use my x100f as my everyday carry. Sometimes I just enjoy shooting more for myself with the Fuji!

Great video. I use a Canon DSLR I’ve had for years for commercial work. If I am traveling, or doing documentary work in countries where a big DSLR isn’t a good idea, I always take my Fujifilm.

Hey Omar!! Enjoyed the show again, but I have to agree. Yes, I can use my Fuji camera's professionally as well, but...they're sooooooo much fun to just play with!!! :-) And, travel with, and hold (they're so cute)!!! LOL! I use my Nikons for pro work, but these Fuji's are just great cameras for fun!! Peace from Bermuda bro!!

Understood. Thanks for not totally dumping Fuji for Sony. I myself left Sony (A7iii, A7Riii) for Fuji x and GFX. I appreciate having the less weight with the x system and when I want top notch image Quality I take my GFX system. You’re right we’re tribal creatures Lol. Keep up the great work and Fuji videos!!! :-)

This is an awesome answer and reason!!! I just started getting into the Fuji system and bought an X-T3 and X-T30 and a few lenses so far. I have a Canon 1DXm2 and a 5Dsr and a ton of Canon glass, but it’s just too big and heavy to carry with me all the time. I went with Fuji, specifically because it’s APS-C, to have a lighter option… and it’s just so much fun to use! I am getting rid of my 1DXm2 but keeping my 5Dsr for the 50MP and more stationary type work like macro (I’m only a hobbyist). I recently contemplated selling ALL my Canon gear, but I think there is room for both systems. I also agree with you that Sony is still king on the eye AF, but Fuji is catching up.

I am the EXACT SAME WAY!!! I tried to switch to Fuji for my weddings and event work.. But for some reason, I just couldn't get along with it in those scenarios.. not 100% sure why.. My 5D mark III and my now EOS R just feel right for those types of jobs. Maybe it might be the ergonomics and control layout... That being said I hate just carrying that stuff around for personal photography. One of my all time favorite cameras is my X100F, and I will be getting the X100V for sure! Also, I have an XT2 (w/ a battery grip, which I don't like to be honest.) So I hear the XT4 is going to be announced soon too.. I WILL for sure get one IF they update the battery to a higher capacity. that's the only thing I don't actually like about the Fuji cameras right now.

I shoot with Fuji, Canon, and Nikon no need to discriminate any brands. Fuji for street & video, canon for portraits, Nikon for sports & wildlife.

Everyone needs a separation from work and hobby/fun... even if those are basically the same. And the fujis are perfect for hobby and personal use, because they are fun cameras to use and toy around. BUT! as Omar said, they are also powerful cameras to use for pro work

I currently shoot Fuji, Nikon, Mamiya, Contax/ I use them all for different reasons. They would all go in a heartbeat if i find something that suits my needs more. I don't get the whole allegiance to a brand or ' my brand is better than your's'. Saying that Fuji is better than Canon ;)

Omar, been following you for a couple of years now, and yes i started following for the Fuji content. And yes I was also 😮 when you announced your switch to Sony, but for work. I totally get your separation of work and personal time. Totally makes sense to me. I know many photographers who own Leica cameras and only use them for their personal work. The brand of camera is irrelevant. Photography is more than gear. I watch for the tutorials and the entertainment. Thank you. 🙏🏻

Started with Nikon and still use for sports. Have Fuji for me, too. I am not a pro. I am not an expert. But my Nikon is super heavy with large lenses and kinda too chunky to carry everywhere and all of the time. Totally understand being divested/invested in more than one system.

I have Canon and Fujifilm. I have had Canon since 1980. I decided to invest in Fujifilm, and not sure It was necessarily the Best choice overall, but I love the Fujifilm gear for sure. I love the prime lenses. I a getting the X-T4 tomorrow. Mainly because my X-T2 has an issue and I don't want to put another $600 to fix it. I'd rather invest towards the new camera. I'm looking forward to the IBIS.

I don't know why I clicked on this. But it was entertaining. I just had to send back a defective Fujifilm camera and decided to get a Canon instead. I am already so glad I did. Honestly, I have really only done manual photography on analog film cameras. Really, I needed to keep it simple as I transition to full digital. I've used Canon and Nikon before and thought the controls would be more user friendly. I was right. I loved the Fujifilm for the month that I had it and will probably buy one in the future. But alas... Thanks for the humor.

Depth of field is the reason. Everyone knows that larger sensors provide a shallower depth of field. It's within that depth of field that our eyes get a better perception of the depth- it's kind of like quality within the depth. Highlights all the way down to Shadows, transitions of color, and color itself within these depths just make larger sensor images that much more desirable to our eyes. They are more lifelike to our brains. Don't get me wrong, I own more cameras than I should all the way down two itty-bitty sensors.... I just believed that the larger the sensor, the more versatility you have for a final image. That would be supporting the whole 'pro' thing. Why not have the most versatile tool for clients. BTW'S.... I will fire anything with a shutter for the love of it, and Omar makes awesome videos! 🤟🤟
