Always an enjoyable watch. I’m really looking forward to the macro algae. Being in the desert, you may not have any condensation issues with the chiller. In Maryland, it’s good and steamy, so anything cooler than 75 is constantly wet!
Can you run a chiller in an enclosed space like that? Just thinking about the thermodynamics of it all, your collecting the heat from the water transferring that to a radiator and dumping it into an closed off space directly under the tank with other equipment that has water flowing through it. Maybe I'm missing something but it seems like even if the chiller works, it definitely working a lot harder and less efficient than it needs to. Outside the stand cabinet would really be best. Take care, Jason
Hey Jason, no, you can't run a chiller in the cabinet. I have to leave my cabinet doors open right now. I will be installing two cabinet fans in the future to alleviate the problem, but for now it's open cabinets for me. The chiller does get super hot. I just don't have a space for it outside the tank, since it's right next to my walkway. But I think once I install some heavy duty cabinet fans it will work out just fine. We'll see though and I'll certainly keep everybody in the loop!
Hey Matthew, good stuff as always. Thanks for the effort you put into sharing your knowledge. I’m down in SD, and will gladly take frags you can’t find other homes for. I have a 6 month old nano tank, and am starting to add in corals myself.
Sounds great! I'm gone until this weekend, but shoot me an email later this week and I'd love to get rid of a few frags if your willing to make the drive! contact (@) myfirstfishtank (.com)
Prioritise.. yes you have commitments but always remember.. this is a hobby, don't let videos spoil your enjoyment. It's not and we're not worth it :) Besides which quality beats quantity.
I totally understand your frustration, but, although I am a relatively experienced reefer, I watch all your videos, because you are good, always giving very good advices and most of all you are so much fun to watch. You have a style and no matter what you are saying, its always pleasant to watch. Do as much as you can and desire and don't worry, I am sure most of your subscribers agree with me. Keep on sharing the passion and knowledge. Greetings from Switzerland
I agree I have been in the hobby for a while but this dude is just fun to watch and a down to earth good guy. I can definitely see him hosting something in the future
Yeah, my wife keeps saying that. I have definitely scaled back my editing, but I can't bring myself to stop editing completely! But I always tell myself that content matters so much more than editing, so it is a good reminder for sure! Thanks Lincoln!
Hey, you are one of the most entertaining and interesting reefer out there. Don't sweat about having content every week. Heck I can't see how anyone have anything that changes in a tank of note in a week to even put out there. There should be several custom tank maker in your neck of the woods, check ebay or the local facebook or reefer groups. Keep up the great work!!
Hello Matthew. Love the videos you put out. You are helping me set up a tank. Not a good one but a tank none the less..... But please sir, ensure your family's health first. What the heck are you and the wife doing bending at the waist? I about had a cardiac arrest watching that as I have suffered from back injuries before. Good Lord man, lift with your legs!!!!! Clown Fish For The Win (CFFTW). Stay safe!
That made the video watching you cut the frags & have part of the plugs fly across the room. 😁 The Ocean Wonders tiles & plugs are what I use as well as they’re so easy to cut. The tanks are looking good as I really like how you have them displayed.
I totally feel you. I used to hate working 7 days a week. Until I realized that I could go from &250k/year to $400k/year just from working weekends. That cured my aversion to working weekends
Awesome, thanks Laura! I'm out of town until this weekend, so shoot me an email later this week and I'd love to give a few frags away! contact (@) myfirstfishtank (.com)
Sorry I know this doesn’t have anything to do with the video but I was wondering if you thought a reef octopus 1000 HOB skimmer is too much for a 38 gallon tank. the tank has been running for more then a year now and never had a scammer needs one now?
No worries at all. I actually own the 1000 HOB for my 65 gallon seahorse tank. It's definitely a bit overkill for a 38 gallon, since it is rated up to around 50 gallons for a highly stocked tank. But, you could run it on a timer or a super dry skim so you don't suck up as many nutrients.
Breathe, take the time you need to ground yourself. You do such great stuff but don’t burn out man. Less is good sometimes… I’ve always gone with the idiom that if you have too many irons in the fire it’ll stifle it so take a few out to get it going good again… That said I always enjoy your enthusiasm, energy and knowledge… plus the stuff you do is awesome… Now go make a coffee and actually enjoy it hot and don’t let it get cold… ; )
Thanks Ian, I need those words of encouragement from time to time! I'm definitely on the lookout for burnout, and will do whatever I can to avoid it! Sometimes I wish I was one of those people who could just work and work and work and thrive, but I'm just not!!
Wow, ya got me started in this hobby a few years ago.... And just seeing what you got now, show us the possibility of what we can do, we can find the beginner stuff anywhere!!! LOL
11:41 looks like a montipora digitata. 12:08 The coral whose name you can't remember is a chalice. I believe it's a Miami Hurricane. 12:14 Is either a favites or favia (war coral)
I keep saying I'll remember the names someday, but I think the time has passed! I just think I never will! Thanks for taking the time to remind me of these names! Once you said the Miami Hurrican and War Coral I was like yes, that's it!!
Awesome. Shoot me an email later this week and I'd love to give a couple away for sure! I'll be back in town on Saturday. contact (@) myfirstfishtank (.com)
Awesome Arnold. Shoot me an email later this week. I'm out of town until Saturday, but if you want to swing by sometime this weekend or next week, I'd be happy to give a few to you! contact (@) myfirstfishtank (.com)
Well let's figure out how to get you a tank at an affordable price. Shoot me an email contact (@) myfirstfishttank (.com) and tell me more and let's see what we can figure out.
Thanks Cary. I actually just used this LED light that I use for my background studio lighting. I super glued some velcro to the back of it and it worked great! amzn.to/3gsQHao
