Zarna speaking of her mother-in-law: 'She comes for three months at a time.' So did my mother-in-law, at our expense (which meant at my expense, financially & emotionally). Unfortunately I didn't speak her language - Arabic, & she spoke limited English - British English, which made it even more difficult. I didn't cook much, she cooked everything perfectly according to both her & her SON. Nothing I cooked suited my husband, (yet he gained over sixty pounds in the first three years of our forty year marriage). I tried to follow her recipes. But she NEVER ever measured anything. I always followed recipes to the very quarter teaspoon. So no matter how I tried my cooking never ever measured up (pun intended). They are both gone now. He sank into a three year depression when she died. By then he was a double amputee, I was the one & ONLY care giver. It was hard. But I believe marriage, even a hard one, is till death do we part. I fully believe he was trying to kill me. Guess what I survived. I survived the forty years. I survived being told I burned water. I survived being alone: his fourteen trips 'home.' I survived the majority of my life being criticized, put down. It hasn't been easy, but I'm a survivor.
Thank you for sharing in a most honest way. It seemed like you lived a nightmare of a marriage. Now, you can live in peace as you have paid, I do believe, a karmic debt.

Aunty Zarna here! I’m a Female comedian and writer from India myself, lemme tell you, you have a serious fan base here back home. We are literally using some of your material as a case study for transition jokes(which are TOUGH to write unlike call back and one liners) hats off, more power to you.
Bruh...come on! We have amazing female comics in India ...Prashasti, urooj, shreeja etc. are liked a lot more than Zarna. Her humor is stuck in 2000 India. You need fresh humor to be able to connect to Indian audience.
Oh, that joke about rushing to yoga. One of the nurses and I at West Park Health Care Center used to say it to each other all the time. I was there for two years, learning to walk again. Ovie, I miss you!
This type of humour is obviously targeted to an Indian audience. Americans have the inane slapstick humour so, for all intents and purposes, this routine is one of an acquired taste, best served with a Vindaloo to assist in swallowing it.
This reminded me of my aunt (who I really like btw). I was living with her in my early 20s. She once indirectly told me, they rejected a couple of girls for my cuzin coz they were "healthy" and proceeded to tell me I needed to reduce my lower body so I get good proposals. BTW My cousin has always been of stocky build. Non-existent neck and a bulky body. But that's okay. It's the girls who needed to be slim and perfect. I have always grown up feeling insecure about my lower body. Even though I don't want to marry. (Although it was never that big from Indian POV). And now RU-vid teaches me that girls yearn for a big round butt. And wear butt foam to look bigger 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️

3 months not bad at all!! Mine was aiming to stay full term visa allows - 6 months, we bargained a lot and made it till 4! She was complaining every day she wants to go home, how boring it is here and guess what - she wouldn’t want to change ticket!!!! Next time will say 2 months - take it or leave it!!😂😂
re: rushing to yoga - a saying from Yoga comes to mind: "everyone should spend 20 mins per day communing with Nature. if you think you are too busy to find the time, then you need to spend 1 hr every day" 🙂
I'm sorry but this is not either funny or relatable for me as a typical middleclass Indian but gives me cringe. But yeah there are people, not just any aunt, but random people irrespective of gender who gets so bothered and worked up if not interrupt and question others life(color, look, career choice,life decisions). And also showing fake sympathy even when there's nothing to sympathise about.
She has potential though.... She will improve with time... And I can see people liking this because she has lived both Indian & American life... I support her... There is a certain likeability in her as she is real and not faking experiences
