I quit raw accel after 6 months. Over the last 6 months, I found raw accel to be less and less useful. After all this time, I eventually quit raw accel so that I could do other things. In this video, I'll explain whether or nor raw accel is good, and whether or not I like it, and whether or not it is good for Valorant.

right around the "how rawaccel can give you better aim" video I built my curve alongside you in that video. I have changed my curve over 10 times since then after vod reviewing myself and finding my weak points. I found the curve that is most comfortable to me and stuck with it for that entire time (7ish months). rawaccel genuinely made aiming easier instantly (after 4 days with maybe around 12 hours total building/ refining my curve). And it's extrapolated into my valorant games as well. My game sense is progressing rapidly because I don't have to put as much brain power into aiming. I love looking at it from both sides, and I may attempt a flat sens again someday, but before I installed rawaccel I was a constant sens changer and obsessed with finding the "perfect" sens, with rawaccel I don't think about it at all

i used to be a low linear sens player but since then i've had a wrist injury and just cannot play low linear sens since. But mouse accel genuinely makes it painless to play with the precision of low sens with offset mouse accel for the big mouse movements. I think its also valuable to look at that perspective aswell as mouse accel is way more ergonomic (at least in my uneducated opinion) than a linear low sens

RA for me actually helped immensely. I had always had an issue with myself where low sens felt too low and high-mid sens I had trouble controlling it. Being able to use both honestly solved so many issues for me. But thats mainly because I saw what was an issue for me and used it to patch that issue over on top of practice and such after realizing this was a great way to solve that issue. I already knew what I wanted to finding those settings was pretty easy for me. Its not a be all end all thing. I see it as something that can be used as a personal preference thing like in my case. I run a really steep Natural 0.2 decay 1.11 limit no offset gain checked which is used for me to go between my old high-mid sens and my preferred lower sens in the games I play. I honestly think it would be a pain to find these settings through if I didnt accidentally stumble into mine.

Turning off accel defeats the whole purpose of that involved tracking exercise. It's exactly the kind of scenario that's hard to get used to with accel and thus the one to double down on to get better at using mouse accel. Makes me want to install an aim trainer. If you were willing to go all-in on rawaccel, I'd recommend trying Motivity curve. Parameters conversion for it is tricky: Motivity = (Accel Cap)^0.5 Sens Multiplier = Old Sense Multiplier*Motivity Midpoint based on Offset Growth Rate based on Acceleration.

really though, to me the biggest advantage of raw accel in tacfps is the ability to make large angle flicks fast on a low sensitivity - a static jump curve that just goes from 1 to 2 with a high enough offset to not interfere with your actual aim is such a nice thing to have especially if you're newer and unfamiliar with angles and maps yet want to stick to low sensitivity, and it also doesn't require getting used to the curve when it's only used for 180's
@fun_ruiner
@fun_ruiner Год назад
This is what I am doing too, and I think it provides a real advantage. I basically set it so that it only activates when I am doing a heavy flick, like a 180 degree flick or something, everything else is just a flat sens. Having accel affect normal tracking and normal flicks made aiming hard and unpredictable, which resulted in worse aim for me.

I third this. I trialed a jump curve that was flat and then just went to I believe it was 1.5x with no smoothing purely to help with wide / 180 flicks and, while it did help, I feel like just practising larger flicks on my main sense was better.

Interesting cause I just found your old video on Raw Accel like 2 weeks ago. I started to use Raw Accel now... I personally play R6 and always messed with my sensitivity, but knew my limits with my aim. So I tried to focus on my crosshair placement and positioning so I would not have to flick as much. I play with the philosophy if I have to flick a lot, I have bad game sense. When I started to use Raw Accel... it changed how I perform completely. I'd say for the better because 80% of the time I know where my enemies are, what angles to hold, but now I dont have to worry about flicking because I can "accel" to that position especially if someone is behind me. I dont have to swing my arm off the table anymore, lol.

It literally changed my game, got good instantly and ranked up to diamond in cod in three days from being stuck in gold. It gave me exactly what I needed, slow sensitivity with the ability to flick and turn in ranked. I also knew exactly what I needed so I made a custom curve that works for me in about a day of messing with it while playing. My curve looks nothing like the recommend curves, and I figured it never would. I Was playing at a higher sense to be able to turn with giving up accuracy across the map. Not just a setting for me, a game changer.

@kurushimee
@kurushimee Год назад
Your second point is what made me quit mouse accel as well, not after 6 months but after 3 years. In my case it's even more extreme, I constantly have the urge to fiddle around with accel settings a bit to accommodate my changed preferences, and I can have this urge tens of times per _single day_. Considering that I've used mouse accel for three years I have experience which tells me it isn't going to stop. I don't have much of a problem adapting to a new sens/curve, I seem to play rather fine after doing so and may even perform better. My problem is rather long-term consistency, as changing my settings even just a little bit this often just can't lead to consistency. One other major point is that the main reason why I _started_ using mouse accel back in the day after pinguefy's video is that at the time I was trying to play several completely different FPS games while foolishly wanting to maintain a shared sensitivity across all of them. Back then, I thought that if I didn't use a single camera sensitivity in _every single game_ I play, I'd detach from it and would start forgetting it, hence performing worse. This is, of course, total bullshit as I now understand, and having shared sens between different types of games is only harmful. I do indeed like how I can get an even lower sensitivity in CS:GO with RawAccel without having to dislocate my shoulder to do a 180, but it's not necessary. Also, mouse accel is essentially adding more variables to your aim, which in turn creates more complication, which may not be a good thing.

I was one of the ones that DM'd you early on. I didn't need you to set it up but I was wanting more knowledge of what the different functions did and you did help with what you could explain but I found that I was just going to have to experiment. I traditionally play with a lower sens in general in most games but would move my sens in aim trainers, not to cheese but to force myself to learn to control without memory. My close flicks and tracking are decent I just wanted better wide angle flicks. I found in kovacks several senarios that would let me test my theory. I have a lower sens that most as my base but know where my sens should be for wide angle flicks, I have it multiply that deference on a natural curve with a 9 offset. I have it jump the ramp a little faster than stock. I found I can track and close flick same as I always have but wide angle alot better. But I think you're right, using aim trainers for awhile and it not really mattering to me personally what the sens was I was able to just adapt to it in a way, it didn't make me better it just made it easier physically as I use a lot of arm motion. The biggest take away to me is my arm and shoulder doesn't get as tired with my low sens.

I’m at the 8 month mark. I have adjusted my curve combinations weekly and can say I have thoroughly examined the program. Probably about 300-500 hours of practice with RA in many games. My conclusion is that rawaccel is a tool that an elite aimer should be familiar with. Aimers with less raw aim experience in multiple sensitivities will have less intuition to adjust the curves dynamically and will experience more of the “cons” you discussed. I am at the point where I know how to fix errors and discrepancies in my aim by fixing the curve by adjusting values and curve types. It isn’t as much work as it sounds like, but getting to this point WAS a lot of work. Different aim styles, body ergonomics, type of game played, and many other variables will change how this tool can/should be used. Like anything, it takes hundreds to thousands of hours to learn who you are as an aimer and just as much time if not more to figure out how rawaccel fits into that. Love your videos dude.

I'm one of the authors of Raw Accel. Long-time CS:GO player who reached Main back in the day. (Just to show that I've been around: I have a screenshot around of my team knocking off Wardell's and Neptune's "Bee's Money Crew" the season in 2016 they won ESEA, in which I top-fragged with AWP.) Reached Immortal in Valorant in an earlier season but haven't kept playing. There are many dimensions to the ideas presented in the video and I can't address all that I'd like. Here are a few: - Yes, the players who think mouse acceleration will fix or instantly improve their aim are wrong. I was likewise annoyed by the wave of that mentioned in the video. Mouse Accel does not directly improve your skill; it may improve your comfort. It's not for everyone. - I do not agree with your methodology for finding a curve. I tried your methodology myself and bounced off the curves it produced after a couple months. It has an offset, is concave up, and caps after a lot of rise. These blow my mental cache - i.e., make it so I need to re-feel out the curve too often. Too hard. - Changing your curve often is a recipe for under-performing. At some points in the video you seemed to suggest that you could make a curve for each way you want to train, which is obviously sub-optimal. Instead, you should choose something that can adapt to all the ways you want to train. If you've found a method of training that doesn't seem possible with your curve but does seem possible without accel, then in my opinion you've done something wrong in choosing your curve. Finer points: - A large offset clears my mental cache too fast - I have to re-feel the curve too often to use it well, which leads to the issues you were feeling in the video. Someone like Sarah who has a huge offset kind of comes back around to it working again; it only kicks in when the arm moves, at which point you only need to keep mental track of the curve for the type of motions during which you're likely not precisely aiming anyways. (Sarah, to my understanding, also hasn't changed her curve in more than a year and plays a ton, which makes up for a lot.) - "To be able to hit counter-strafing opponents and wide-angle flicks, your accel should have an offset." Hard disagree. Your accel should be easy to predict which implies a low amount of accel in an easy-to-instantly-access pattern, one of which would be "none". An offset achieves this in one range (up to the offset) at the cost of another (after). - Concave-up means the accel rises faster and faster. Cap means it suddenly stops. Both of these personally require more thinking than I want to deal with, especially if they occur in speed ranges I only hit on flicks and larger motions, as your methodology suggests. - I have never aim trained to be good at Kovaak's, only to perform in the games I care about (CS:GO and Val), and even then only for 90ish hours. Kovaak's wasn't available for most of my playing career and is useful but not necessary for building aim. In my opinion, you should choose the best settings to compete in the game you care about (which may be Kovaak's or even one type of scenario in Kovaak's, but for most is an esport like Val) and then train everywhere with those settings. Playing with one curve somewhere, another somewhere else will be sub-optimal for competing at higher and higher levels accounting for other factors. For all these reasons, I recommend using just enough accel to look around a little more with the simplest shape possible. Two such shapes would be linear and low-exponent power, un-capped and without offsets, such that you reach 30-50% increase on your very fastest hand motion. (Power is linear in log-log space, which is a math way of saying it's intuitive to predict how the curve trails off.) With these shapes, your smallest micro-movements inform prediction of how your larger movements will accelerate, but are not accelerating themselves enough to demand much thinking or hurt your aiming. I would be interested to see how choosing such a simple curve affected your training. Keep It Simple, Stupid (meant lovingly) :)

I feel our main difference is that we've always had different goals. You've always cared about specific games mainly val, I've mostly been an aim trainer player, with a new goal every month and 100 side quests in random fps games along the way. "In my opinion, you should choose the best settings to compete in the game you care about" Different optimal settings exist for different situations, and I have no one main situation for myself. If someone doesn't aim train, hop between fps games, etc. then I see no issue with them staying on accel, my only problem for these people is 98% of them (since around july/august) have been people who treat accel as instant solutions. As for the counterstrafing thing, I'm gonna ping you a reply to an older message of mine with a basic explanation of why I think that. I decided to skip over it for this video as I explained it about a month ago in a separate video.

I tried using raw accel for a couple weeks but found myself focusing more on the crosshair rather than the target while I was using it. I've since started training with different set sensitivities and mouse grips and it feels much more intuitive. The biggest benefit of RA in valorant or other tac shooters is being able to do large flicks fast, but if you train your fingers, wrist and arm instead of just one of them you can adapt and make those fast movements accurately even at low sensitivities. I run 62cm/360 in valo but train with sensitivities between 82-25cm/360 and can get similar scores in most tasks by changing what muscles I'm using to aim.

as to the part about the community, its always been like this in practically every game. Players always want to blame their lack of skill on something like "not knowing the secret tip." I mean there are literally hundreds of videos with millions of views on each all titled something along the lines of "doing x made me a GOD" and it convinces a huge portion of people that if they just use this 1 tip, change this 1 setting, do this 1 tiny insignificant thing that wont actually do much for them, that they will be good. I mean 1 example that everyone can see is the people who genuinely believe they r stuck in their ranks because of bad teammates. Not the people that complain about bad teammates, or jokingly say their teammates r always selling their shit. But the people who literally believe that unless they were literally tenz himself they couldnt climb since their teammate luck is just so much worse than everyone else's. People like this just gravitate from 1 trend to the next, thinking that eventually something will give them good aim, make them a smart player, and finally bring them to the top. Truth is, it doesnt exist. There is no secret tip or advice that will make u better, it isnt ur teammates, it isnt ur setup, it isnt a setting u dont have on. It's that u would rather spend dozens of hours tryna find the secret, rather than actually spending the time to get better and improving ur skill. 90% of all videos that show u a "secret tip that will give u Tenz aim" r all bullshit and just share the same regurgitated tips and settings changes all the other ones do. the other 10% r usually just helpful advice that boils down to "put in the hours, here is where u should put those hours for optimal practice" but usually those videos dont even do as well anyway since telling the audience to just put in time isnt what they want to here. bottom line is that in every community there is a large, sizeable portion of the community who refuse to take responsibility for their lack of skill and improvement and will always think that they just dont know the "secret" yet

you are right, there are a lot more things to improve in your gameplay rather than your aiming. but i believe that raw accel isn't useless, on paper it is actually good and i have been using it for a couple of weeks now. i peaked 168 rr and was already good without raw accel--but as someone who really couldnt decide if i wanna play low or high sens, i resorted to using raw accel and i have seen a significant improvement that i couldnt even play without it. i believe 6 months is a pretty short period of time for you to tell that raw accel isn't really working. you need to invest years and years of competitive gaming to see its actual effect on your gameplay--years and years of competitive gaming that would maximize your game sense, comms, and other things and thats when the raw accel will come into place. i think raw accel provides players a higher skill ceiling as not only you have to practice your muscle memory in terms of the travel distance of your mouse across your mousepad, but with raw accel, you would also practice your muscle memory in terms of the travel distance and the acceleration speed of your mouse. i really think that a day will come that everyone will be using raw accel especially when esport tournaments would allow such third party uses. people always say the raw accel or mouse accel is bad coz it messes up your muscle memory--but if you know that graphs and u play w it for a couple of years, i think there would be a time that you would be able to master your muscle memory in terms of distance and speed.

in short, raw accel isnt really beginner friendly. the complexity of it isnt for the newbies because they also have to think about improving their gamesense and all. raw accel really provides players a higher skill ceiling which is a good thing. investing time in softwares (such as raw accel and aimlabs or kovaaks) for mastering your aim would be useless if you lack the gamesense needed for such video games.

Ur ryt, its never my fault. At first its because i didn't use raw accel, now its because im using raw accel. Jokes aside, the improvement I got from raw accel has plateaued, ill try turning it off and see what happens. I think the idea that "you just haven't found your best curve" actually has merit but not in the sense you would think. Finding the best curve is severely underestimated in terms of time and effort, you have to test out different settings at different situations (flicks, tracking, etc etc). Time and effort you could have just used in training a static sense. And if you do find the "best curve", chances are it is only the best in a specific genre of games. Arena shooters vs tac shooters are 2 very different aim styles (precision vs accuracy) that I initially thought raw accel can bridge and create a setting that works for both, but instead, it just made the difference worse. When I get good in a tac shooter using raw accel, I become bad in an arena shooter, and vice versa. You can argue, just make a separate curve for arena shooter and tac shooter. That is exactly my point, the time and effort for getting the best curve is severely underestimated. EDIT: I ranked up in valorant with raw accel when I was playing valorant exclusively, but when I tried other games, fortnite and finals specifically, my skill in valorant fell off a cliff and I just became ass in all 3 games.

Those can conflict with each other especially in games like apex (not an afps but close) where high sens provides a clear advantage in terms of movement but can harm your accuracy. I found my aim didn't improve much with raw accel but i was able to do a lot of advanced movement i struggled to do before.

I have put a lot of work into my aim on raw mouse settings but I have used your benchmarks and regiment for the past two weeks. I feel like it is too early to say If it is working for me or not, in my opinion. My raw aim isn't terrible in most areas (massive exception for dynamic) my real problem with val aim has more to do with in game mechanics that are more closely tied to game sense. Like crosshairs placement, both vertical and horizontal. That being said, I am not perfect, by far, with raw aim. So I am glad you put this out. And I can't thank you enough for the benchmarks and training regiment. In a couple more weeks I will take the benchmarks again and see how it is working out.

really great video, i tried mouse accel but i found myself crutching on it so i disabled it to help my growth as a player, and improve my mouse control naturally instead of artificially with accel. i feel like so many people don't think about what mouse accel should be used for, they just flip the switch bc they see tenz using it or whatever. personally i just wanted faster aim so i used a jump curve that moved from around 37cm to like 27cm (iirc could be wrong it was while ago) instead of just practicing to get faster aim, worked ok but it felt so bland and boring and flat if that makes sense after turning accel off i look at aiming as like an art form now instead of just clicking on heads/circles. it really opened my eyes to how amazing the process of aiming actually is. having accel on just make me have this disconnect between my mouse and crosshair that just feel horrific to main. overall id sum up my time with accel as a learning experience (a very VERY needed one at that)

I hit my peak immo3 and currently enjoying the game more than ever as I feel 10x more confident playing high pressure agents like Jett where you are expected to hit your shots. I love raw accel personally. I hit immo 2 without it so I clearly had enough skill to aim, maybe for those who have peaked like asc only, its still best to play till that immo1/2 mark and then try dabbling in raw accel. Its true that if you dont find the exact correct curve then itll feel like shit. but once you do, and you play with it for some time, i havent needed to change it and it feels great.

@RentABlackout
@RentABlackout Год назад
I had the same experiences with raw accel. Too difficult to find a curve that was worth using in every situation(and having a curve for each felt like cheesing so I didn't want to do that). I also experienced the need to fine tune my curve as I got better in general(with/without the curve). For games, I don't think it was as much of an issue but I would occasionally find "awkward" situations where I wasn't sure if my curve actually hindered me or not. In hindsight, I'm pretty sure I would have made the same mistake with or without it but the curve would make it really obvious. It probably made other aiming errors more invisible however. I imagine it would be easier to finetune a curve for games with predominantly just one aspect of aim though even something like tac fps has both static and dynamic(and ts too?). In the end, I only use raw accel to change my x/y. Maybe to make 180s easier to do with a jump curve, but I play most games that would benefit from this with a higher sens anyway so it seems redundant. On the part about making errors more apparent though, I wonder if it's actually worth using raw accel in that way in aim training? Make a curve that highlights your errors for aim, or make it more challenging. Like using an uncomfortable natural curve for precise tracking or something.

there no real cons but you have the wrong idea about that. you just said that one guy had perfectly fine settings. well you dont know that. thats the thing, there are no perfect settings you can replicate. you need to adjust it to yourself. ideally you wont even notice its there and your hand eye coordination just simply works. i couldnt even tell you which type of accerlation is best for you because it depends what your brain likes more. and also what exactly you want it to help you most. so for example something like a natural curve is good for the entire aimpart but helps less withmovement. jumpcurves are great for movement fliks (not aimflicks) and woudl rather use a long offset for flat dpi for aim. but ofc you can combine that with a custom array but thats a lot of work if you wanna replaicte something like a natural curve with a jump at the end. the default goto linears are not for everyone or every game and it will take a lot of hours to even understand what exatly you need and work with best

i watched a bunch of raw accel vids when it came out purely out of interest, of what i will go up against in MM or faceit. but i held off making one for myself, because 20 years or CS without accel can make one quite stubborn to change. however, when i started playing valorant, no matter what i did, the mouse movement felt like literal dogwater with raw input enabled. maybe because i use 4:3 streched on CSGO, idk. so i started using raw accel and tried out a few curves. i got one now that i even like it csgo, because it really helps me do a 180 quicker and thats some quality of life shit i don't wanna live without anymore. then i saw my aimlabs scores go down, but my DM rates stayed the same or got even better. this makes sense because i didn't base the curves off of aimlabs, but off of DM, because there's a little bit more to the game than just flick and click. on some early curves i had problems cornering with good preaim, like smoothing a corner then cutting it... etc. that's when i noticed the fundamental mistake i made. i based this curve off of aimlabs and not off of ingame feel and results. needles to say, i just uninstalled aimlabs and continued to play more DM. the curve is still working just fine in CSGO and valorant and i am way happier, because it really ruins your day if you sit in front of this mind numbing aim trainer for too long and wonder why you can't get past top100 or whatever it maybe in a scenario. i am not saying it won't help to some extent, but it's just as you described with the raw accel curve: don't expect too much, just because you got good in aimlab does not mean you have supperior aim to someone that played the actual game in a focused manner. in many ways i would say that guy could potentially have the advantage over your cracked aimlabs flick, track, do everything spin bot like aim.

Source Engine FPS input lag/input "quality" is more framerate dependent than most games. You don't "lose" as much input lag by having high framerate in most games as far as I understand it, it all comes down to a shitty source engine quirk Stretched scaling, especially if not done on the GPU, can add input lag on some games, raw input setting is defective, and there are ways to "break" the setting too (something to do with windowed/fullscreen windowed mode in windows. iirc windowed fullscreen and fullscreen optimizations will also override your vsync settings depending on what you do) there's also the literal difference in pixel ratio dependent on resolution maybe that's part of why valorant feels different

I'm 1-year into Raw Accel and the biggest downside is learning to be fully aware of the gun fights your curve doesn't quite work in and adjusting your curve to fix it. Raw Accel works IF you're super techy and can spend the time to VOD review your gunplays because you'll be constantly tweaking your curve as you get better. The curve you start with, is not the curve you end with. I feel pretty cracked most days (I get accused of smurfing/hacking in Plat lobbies). The aim is effortless now and I can just focus on game sense. Most FPS require high sens, but CS-like FPS (tactical) favors low sens. Valorant is in between and I think Raw Accel solves for both low/high sens scenarios.

Just want to get some tips on how to recenter my mouse on my mouse pad, like whens the most efficient time to recenter it. Kind of new to mouse aiming, as I just transitioned from controller.

In game when you’re not fighting, unless it’s like apex which treat like tracking scen. In tracking scen try to know when you’re close to your limit and recenter when the bot is least viable. Ridd explains it well in his precise tracking video

@@WestProter thanks for answering. Tried to look for the vid, but was unable to find it. It would be much appreciated if you could drop the exact name of his channel.
