Hidden within this Rukarumel, Biologist deck is a secret commander, Throne of the Grim Captain - just add dinosaur, pirate, vampire and merfolk bones and, Hey Presto, it flips into a 7/7 with menace, trample, lifelink and hexproof, and has two incredible combat triggers! This deck is replacing my Mimeoplasm build - is it as powerful? No! But this sub optimal switch is way more fun! This is part of my series looking at power level and player experience.

Love seeing the progression. Coincidentally, I'm also tearing apart my Mimeoplasm deck. Nearly done with the bulk of my adjustments. Hopefully, I'll get to play this weekend.

This is beautiful. I love Ixalan and this card(grim captain) always had a place in my heart when caverns came out. plus ive had an itch to make a 5 color deck.

Ah, five colour. I love five colour decks - some feel they are just a pile of 'good stuff' but I feel the opposite; you can bring together the weirdest combination of cards!

Oh my...I've been sitting on a Rukarumel for a while now and this is such a delightful use. One of the things I love about my Ur Dragon kindred deck is the interchangeability of the lords and I'm sensing some of that here in the four sets of seven. I've been thinking lately that one thing I love in certain decks is their toolbox nature: show me new tools and combinations each time to solve the problems presented by the other players. Old Rutstein has been my #1 deck for this lately. I like that this one has aspects of that, plus the challenge of getting the Comfy Chair out into play. Great deck tech and food for thought!

I see this deck as the companion piece to my Ur Dragon changelings - hence, the avoidance of using changelings in the build. I appreciate these comments; I knew this wouldn't be the video that catapults me into the dizzy heights of MTG YT stardom (!) but it was a creative endeavour I had to undertake for my sanity and I knew my people, like you, would find and appreciate it! Toolbox has been my favourite style of deck since original Kamigawa, when you could play 'Gifts Ungiven' and chuck answers in your yard and guarantee getting them out to solve a problem! I think Brenard is my current toolbox boy - hence why it has fast become one of my favourite decks. Thanks for the support!

@@mtgspecs My favorite toolbox commander deck is a bit more on the nose, its my Garth, One Eye Cycling deck. I built it from my upgraded Gavi Nest Warden Precon deck i had for years but absolutely hated. Its basically an Astral Drift/Slide Flicker deck to win with various ETBs and to reset Garth. The toolbox feeling really comes through both with the swiss army knife of an ability from Garth and the 54 Cycling cards in my deck. Its so much fun to consider if i want to use the cards in my hand or basically loot them away to dig deeper, and then reconsider, or maybe use one of Garths cards instantly, all while managing the mana base. The commander itself is totally not necessary for the overall build, but its just too good to start the game with basically 14 cards in hand. Its pretty slow to get going and definetly the most "clean" and "fair" deck i've ever built, but the reactive nature makes it incredibly enjoyable.

@@mofomiko I've never though of Garth as being 14 cards in hand before! The deck sounds amazing - the constant decision making with a mechanic that draws you cards and access to iconic spells from the zone on top of the bouncy ETB goodness - this is gooood stuff!

Thanks! I go deep into research mode and as soon as I saw that 2/2 was so common among elves, research was OVER! I've been playtesting the deck - you can't keep the elves down and you can't keep cards out of your hands! Really appreciate the sub.@@Zeromus5555
