Iv been back packing off my enduro bike and over nite camping/fishing in UP MI this past year, its been really rewarding. My buds want to go with, but to me best feeling is being in the middle of nowhere on your own. Especially fishing.
Adding a 2-3 inch panel of hard foam insulation to the bottom of the sled and a couple squirts of spray foam into those breezes corners would make the sled sleeper close to hotel comfort.
@@Utah_Mike Im going to make a few additions to the gear this year. Going with a bigger shack at some point. Will probably do another wood floor and the build video.
Yeah right you need to do something about ice fishing grab a minnow to get it somewhere in a short and then you can go back out ice fish and then and to catch a bigger fish perch fishing this is Matthew Snyder
Joe I have a couple ideas for you sled. Line it with thin ridged foam board and the other thing is make a hinged solid rounded top from some 1/4” Lauan board. Wouldn’t add much weight to it and I bet it would be nice and toasty in there. And I probably would add a piece of plexiglass on the end where your head would be so you could see the stars. That would be pretty cool
Heck ya! Been waiting all summer for your return. Was thinking about you when I was fishing while it was snowing yesterday. Hopefully you had a great summer.
Sorry I missed the live chat while watching but the fish were biting and I couldn't leave. I'm like you willing to fish before eating. Looking forward to a great winter!
Love your channel Joe keep up the great work look forward to your channel season after season.. Hope to see you out there this season stay safe and good luck bud
Been waiting for this!!! Any chance you can give the rundown on your auger set up Joe? I haven’t paid much attention to using a drill but I am thinking I might put the gas up and go this route. Keep up the great work Joe!!!
Thank you, There are loads of great options now. If you want a standard auger thats battery I did really well with the Strikemaster, My favorite is the current set up with my Milwaukee drill and the Ion G2 10 inch.
Im so ready for ice here in Michigan! I bought the same shanty you have last year and the weather went to crap as soon as I did. Im itching to get out there
Lew and Charlie great stories! Thanks for letting us know what you're reading, think I'm gonna dig out some Edmund Ware Smith to reread. Thanks for the vid! Me and my buddy been itchen for ice!
I did the woodstove this past winter. Really hard to regulate the heat, especially when it is really cold. Don't plan on sleeping too long either, having to get up every hour or so to stoke the fire. I had a cheap stove, the Winnerwells would be a lot better but I still think it would be tough to regulate the heat. Going with the diesel heater this year.
thank you for the advice. Did you have a baffle on the pipe? Good hardwood. I think I will still bring the Buddy too. I don't even run heat at night but I think I will try it for drying stuff.
@@JoeHollandFishing it was just a cheap wood stove from Princess Auto (Canadas Harbour Freight). The pipe that it came with was way too small so I modified it to a 3” with a damper. Worked really good as far as getting it roaring, but wasn’t really a good way to damp it down even with the damper. Just too small to get any amount of burn time. I used dry birch, spruce, and Jack pine with similar results for all. Mind you, I had the wife with me for the over night trips so the “cold tolerance” was very different than if I was alone. For reference, I have the Otter Vortex Lodge, same size as your 450XD. I think for your scenario it could work well. Nice dry heat for a short period of time. Definitely drys everything out very quickly.
I use a winnerwell and ice camp with it, it’s great for dry heat but at night it’s tough I agree. You got to have aux heat imo. My stove even has a stovepipe oven!
I have the same sled with the Brandon box, I made a set of bows that slide in and out ez . Made them out of 3/4'' PEX . They come out quick and stow ez. They keep the cover up like a covered wagon , I also made a doggie door in one side to make it ez for my old dog to climb in and out . The door makes it slick for getting my big ass smelt cooler in and out,
@@JoeHollandFishing I've seen all of your videos including all the bass fishing vids but I will def go back and review again to make sure I got everything I need gonna try it couple times if all goes well my 8 year old daughter is excited to stay out there with me
I now am known as "that idiot who is out there on the lake when its blowing and snowing and -20 camping out". Thanks for the inspiration to go out and get it done and just enjoy life, the happiness, and the adventure that ice fishing brings. Love your channel! From Upstate NY
