actually based off of what the original writers wrote ghost riders stare works on anyone even the most innocent its strength depends on how many sins and how much pain they have under there belt. in punishers case its plot armor cause its not about regret, now this comic could be different I never read it
The Penance Stare has been shown to work on remorseless criminals repeatedly including who straight up enjoy what they can do and it cannot differentiate right from wrong and people think is right. This claim that it requires the Regret to be effective almost always comes from a popular instance of rhe Penance Stare failing against Punisher and was said to be a massive outlier and that should be ignored. It's likely that either the Punisher was squeaky clean and had not harmed any innocents because the writers messed it up and didn't do their own research.

Maybe the experience is awful, but it also educates Frank on the pain he inflicted on people he feels truly deserved death. It might oddly just be a powerful reinforcement of his character and choices to Punish thinking of the agony of the Stare and what he is doing to others.

This is entirely false. Frank is not immune to the penance stare. The only time it didn't work is because Deadpool put an angel feather on him. He basically had divine protection. The penance stare does not work on the divine. We saw later the penance stare works on Frank. It also would not actually work on Galactus. That was strictly for the cartoon. While Galactus does feel sorry for the lives he must take he is a necessary cosmic force of nature. The penance stare also does work on ppl who regret nothing. We have seen it on panel. A serial killer who killed 45 ppl had no regrets whatsoever and couldn't wait to get out of prison so he could continue got penance stared and it did its usual effect. Remorse is not necessary for it to work
I think the best explanation short of plot armor is who Ghost Rider was working with at the time and a line Doctor Strange uttered about Ghost Rider vs. Worldbreaker Hulk. Doctor Strange said Ghost Rider avenges and protects the innocent, and that was why Ghost Rider wouldn't take on Hulk at the time, because the people Ghost Rider would have to defend from Hulk were *not* innocent in Strange's own words. Hulk was avenging the wrongs committed on him by the Illuminati of Marvel Comics. Fast Forward to the incident Punisher was hit with the Penance Stare in question. As some pointed out, he had a plot-device in his back pocket to help, but further, Ghost Rider was trying to defend the Thunderbolts, particularly General Ross/Red Hulk, who again, was not an innocent man since he did literally try to murder Punisher before Ghost Rider fought him. And one thing not discussed is the time Ghost Rider literally vaporized an angel with the stare (unintentionally) just because the angel tried to lie to him about the nature of his powers. I conclude it's less the feather, and more that Frank was protected by the fact that he was actually the *more* innocent party than the person the Rider was trying to avenge. But the feather did definitely play a role as it was shown Frank is not entirely immune to the stare without one.
It seems to me that the Stare should *not* affect Galactus. He is literally a force of nature that the universe has as a way to tidy up; morals don't seem to be an issue for him, as he's just doing what he was created to do. Not sure that the concept of "guilt" has any real meaning for him. As for Punisher - While he might very well see what he does as a "necessary evil," evil done in the name of God is still evil; killing criminals instead of incapacitating them and hauling them in is still murder, no matter how vile they are. Feels like plot armor to me.
@@pnut3844able Because some so called "PROGRESSIVE" current day Marvel Comics writers who support Gun Control & Identity Politics decided that Frank Castle was RACIST for killing BOTH Black & White gangsters.. & that he used GUNS to do it.. in the last Frank Castle Punisher series they made Castle the leader of the Hand ..who fought ONLY with swords..then at the end of the series they had his previously dead wife come back & not only DIVORCE him... she sold off ALL his hideouts & weapon supplies..& donated the money to charity.. Then after Castle dies ..he wakes up in the Weird World dimension & I forget the rest. Btw the reason that Marvel Comics gave for eliminating the character was that TOO MANY members of the military & law enforcement wore the Punisher skull symbol on their uniforms during the DEFUND THE POLICE era a few years ago.. I believe that they've launched a NEW "Punisher" character who is NOT Frank Castle.. but I doubt it's going to last.
@@pnut3844able well… he joined the hand (ninja clan daredevil fights), renounced his use of guns(used swords after this), became an avatar for the god the hand worships (gained powers from this), his wife was resurrected by the hand but she was horrified by what frank became and everything he has been doing since her death, and then finally he banished to an alternate dimension by other street level marvel heroes because he became too much of a problem, but he’s technically still out there. I really hate this story.
The old saying goes "When innocent blood is spilled" then the Ghost Rider gets summoned well u can bet your grandmas house the Punisher may spill blood but it aint no innocent blood the Punisher will not kill any innocent he actually protects them when need be
Under the premise given for it to work; The Penance Stare wouldn't work on millions of people.. A sociopath generally doesn't feel remorse for the people whom they hurt or kill, hence the stare wouldn't affect them one bit. So I would just call this plot armor..
Maybe Frank doesn't have any guilt to begin with. Maybe he KNOWS that he doesn't hurt innocents directly. In the Corman movie with Dolph Lundgren, he spoke to God all the time trying to reason out his war on criminals. Maybe the Ghost Rider is limited to spiritual boundaries and his victims MUST be consciencless KILLERS or perps who DON'T have a grasp of care or belief. Frank being a Catholic, and a believer would understand that there's right and wrong. That gives him a conscience, and a conviction that taking out the bad-guys ACTUALLY saves INNOCENTS, which would limit Ghostriders penance stare. He's bound by laws of spituality, which The Punisher ISN'T, because he's working against spiritual EVIL, despite being a KILLER.
Penance stare just makes people relive their worst moments they regret, punisher doesn’t regret shit, courtroom scene in daredevil is the perfect example of how punisher feels about his actions

He ISN'T immune. In the comic he had someone shield him secretly which is how he avoided it the first time. Second time it was used on him he got dropped to his knees in tears. Maybe read the whole damn issue befoee ya spout bs? 😂😂😂
The Penance Stare is Hell's timeout corner of pain Because the Ghost Rider isn't angry he's just disappointed and he wants you to know what you've done and it to hurt a lot. but under the Penance Stare the Ghost Rider forces you relive the pain and misery you inflicted on others throughout your entire life. no indiscretions no matter how minor is safe from the Ghost Rider's Gaze. But should your sins so numerous and terrible. The Penance Stare can obliterate your soul leaving you nothing more than a empty husk.
