For the tree map, it was showing density and not number of trees, so the numbers were measured by tree per kilometer squared.

He was confusing the number of trees per square kilometre in a country with the total number of trees in the country. The map displays the former, but he thought (and presumably still thinks) that it's displaying the latter. He either didn't read the map legend or didn't understand what he read. I'd never heard of him until this video appeared in my list of recommendations, and so this is the first video of his I've ever watched. I stopped watching part way through the video, because it became obvious to me that he is not a reliable source of geographical information, and I won't be watching any more videos by him.

Fun fact about denmark's trees: We cut all of them down a long time ago for two reasons. 1: Wood for building ships and 2: farming area. When the british destroyed the danish navy, they had no wood to rebuild their ships, all the trees had been cut down. So, they planted a whole bunch of trees so that they could rebuild their navy when they grew big. When the trees were finally mature enough to build ships, we no longer built them from wood. The people responsible for the planting and maintaining of the trees wrote a letter to the navy notifying them that their trees were ready anyway.

Denmark once had vast birch and pine forrests, but due to a massive naval build up before the napoleonic wars, a lot of the trees where cut down to support them and the lands where then turned into agriculture. I'm pretty sure there are only 1 or 2 natural forrests that haven't been re-planted.

Yes here in Denmark we do not have a lot of trees, it was also a lot from the Vikings when they came down here and cut a lot of trees to make ships. Our wood was prized in making ships until the 1800s

As a Slovenian yes trees are everywhere you might be asking why it’s because most of our terrain is an accessible hill and large towns and cities only crop up in valleys and because Slovenia only has a maximum sea level of around 3000. It has a lot of space for trees and also we sort of pride ourselves in trees for example literally one of us symbols is a Lipa leaf which is a tree that’s really really common in Slovenia

6:16 those are the county borders that give them the jurisdiction over those sections of Lake Superior, and the reason the housing prices are so high up there is because a lot of people by cabins in the UP to go up to on vacation to get away from everything. Since there is only so many cabins you can build with large property lines, the prices have gone up as more people want cabins in the north

Little story about ding dong ditching for ya: Behind the football field bleachers at our school, there is a fence and a neighborhood. People during games hop the fence to mess with the people in the neighborhood, ringing doorbells, knocking over potted plants, etc. One marauding group apparently got a gun pulled on them. Moral of the story; even if ding dong ditching isn’t illegal in the US, it’s still not a good idea.

@@aurumble Hey in the mindset of the person who lives there they don't know if the people coming into their home and causing property damage is going to turn into causing human damage. Violent crime is way more common here than in other parts of the world. Not as common as the stats might make you think as a lot of it is localized to ghettos and even certain blocks and streets in those ghettos, but there's still enough for it to be a legitimate concern.

4:38 The reason why Denmark and the Netherlands have no trees was due to the fact that from the Viking age and toward the very end of they 18th century, Denmark and the Netherlands were the top builders of ships in all of Europe. Yes they made even more ships than France and England as well. Both countries are very much countries with deep naval histories. In 1801 during the battle of Copenhagen, Britain took the entire Danish navy after Denmark's defeat. And to make up for it, they planted a handful of oak trees, (no more than 50) most of which never grew and instead withered due to the soil the British chose to plant them on.

For the tree stuff, we actually have lidar satellite images that allow GIS software to count trees by the millions. Its really cool stuff. You can also make the software count hay bales, cows, cars whatever its cool stuff

Around 4:20 Previously you would count/estimate number of trees per area unit and calculate it trough area of forest. You would get rough number depending on class/type of forest. Today they use satelites and program to recognize tree. Previously it depended on person who counted them per area, today it depends on what can program recognize as tree

I'm from Bosnia, we actually do send aid to Ukraine through private donation channels. Our government is kinda blocked since we have 3 rotating presidents, one of which is a Pro-russian Serb, who is and was supported by Russia in other times. Since the government cannot make anything official, those that wanted to help, helped. On another note, a lot of Ukrainian volunteers fought for the Serb army that was fighting in Bosnia, so most people here just want to see Russia fail but do not give a damn about Ukraine in general. Funny, the people those Ukrainians were fighting for are now the staunchest allies of Russia, wanting to see their Nation disappear. BUT, now is a different time, I hope the Ukrainians win, so they can move to a brighter, democratic future. I have the same hopes for my country as well.

The dots near Moldova would be in transnistria (hope i wrote it right) which is a breakaway part of Moldova that "wants" to become part of Russia, and in which there are indeed Russian troops stationed. To my knowledge the troops stationed here are yet to take part in the conflict in a significant matter

Guess what? Cherry knocking as it is sometimes known in the U.K. is no doubt practised by kids here as much as anywhere. When we were kids, we did it all the time, no one _ever_ got arrested. This suggests two things:- 1. Police don't enforce this _law_ in the U.K. 2. Prohibition never works.

BTW if you wondering why car is so low then in India here we see Cars as "if you have excess money then only buy", many Indians rely on public transports(bus, train, metro etc) or auto rickshaws. Bikes(Motorcycle) in India starts at very affordable price that's why people tend to go with two wheeler as compared to that of 4 wheeler. Since one should have atleast 1 public vehicle. This is very common mentality here not sure if its prevalent in other places too

In FInland we have the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. They count every tree in Finland so we can optimise our forest usage.

Actually the US is the exception to that because of the vast forests existing here since colonization, most private residences are built of wood but commercial buildings are built with other materials like concrete and/or metal. And home ownership in the US is more prevalent then elsewhere as its cultural: successful = home ownership (it's actually called "The American Dream")

For that tree thing atleast here in finland its probably taken from what the foresters/lumberjacks give as the density You take this piece of plastic that has a certain sized hole in it with a certain sized handle (usually 60cm) and take a random area to count all the trees that fill the hole when you look through it while standing in one place You take a few of those and you get a pretty close density of trees per 100m² and put that on some sorta website (woodforce in my case) I cant belive i wrote this out here but hey if someones intrested even a tiny bit 3 years studying forestry ans forest machine operating wasnt complete waste Tldr: lumberjacks or whatever u call em measure the trees in an area to ger the number of trees
