I love Trophy Eyes. I love stage diving. But with this, you share some EXTREMELY valid points. John had no warning before diving into the crowd and putting Bird in this very unfortunate condition. There needs to be more of a warning/crowd interaction before blatantly DIVING into the crowd on the first song.

Such a tragic incident. Glad more people are talking about this though. I've always been a strong advocate for "no crowdkilling." It pisses me off to no end when people are trying to enjoy a show and there's always those 2 or 3 idiots in the pit that are more focused on showing how "tough" they are and not caring that people could get seriously hurt. Looking at you Knocked Loose fans... I don't mind stage diving as much, but when it's done in such a small venue where there aren't enough people to hold you up, it becomes really dangerous especially in this situation.

Such a sad story and I wish Bird all the best in recovery. For the most part (uk based) concert etiquette has been really decent these last few years however that Bring Me The Horizon tour and Bad omens supporting them tour was one of the worst crowds i have ever seen. It's irresponsible as someone who is 6'6 to do that especially without warning. Typically when I go to the show the singer at least gives an indication or says "you all better catch me". 100% preventable and I hope they are less reckless. I saw them in Saturday. He addressed the incident to the crowd. Pretty much said something along the lines of it's important to look after each other, raise your hand if you get overwhelmed and I'll stop the set, etc. No real sense of personal responsibility which I think some people wanted to see but who knows maybe he did that in private or is avoiding that for legal reasons? Even when people were crowd surfing he was making sure people were safely escorted to security. I personally hate stage diving all together, not huge on crowd surfing either but it's a part of these shows which is why I try to stay toward the pit where people typically dont dare to surf. Im with you on crowd killing as well. Mosh pits are fun because pretty much everyone in there is consenting to being pushed around and people at the trophy eyes shows were very helpful in helping those who fell down and escorting those who wanted out of the pit. Going to make a donation shortly to Bird, hoping for the best. Really well articulated video, I enjoyed hearing your thoughts!

I actually saw Trophy Eyes on this tour last week, and there was a moment during one of the opening bands' sets where the show stopped momentarily while a person left the room after (I think) a crowdsurfing accident. Needless to say, they handled it as responsibly as they could, but it was nowhere near as reckless as this. I like John, had a really good time at that show, but he should definitely know better.

I completely agree. I've never been a fan of stage diving, mosh pits, or anything of the sort. Most people go to concerts to have fun and enjoy live music. They don't go to have drunk or overexcited fans hit them or jump on top of them. The fact that this kind of thing keeps happening shows that people need to wake up and realize that this behavior is making concerts a lot more dangerous for no reason.

I go to 50+ concerts a year, mostly local stuff and a few big touring acts. Local shows have remained more or less the same post covid but the touring ones i think people have gone feral. It feels similar to going to the movies now where people think there ticket to entry lets them do whatever they want. At least my local scene is pretty chill, everyone knows each other and is always careful and there to help if anyone gets injured. At big shows it seems like that sense of community has been lost to some extent.

I was at a Hotelier concert and they encouraged stage diving from fans. This big 6'4 dude got on stage, did it, and got kicked out. I remember the lead singer saying something to the effect of how some dogs are bigger than others, and even if they don't mean it, might not be able to play as rough before security came to get him. It seemed harsh, but this is the reality of it: if you're big, it's not worth stage diving. And I don't know who shows up to a Wonder Years concert swinging that shit is insane

It should go without saying. I don't go to a lot of concerts but I do attend wrestling shows from time to time. Professional wrestlers train to catch wrestlers who are doing aerial maneuvers. Even with all the training and athleticism, they don't do that with the big guys. You won't see Rey Mysterio trying to catch the Big Show. Ever since the Astroworld disaster, I've been way more observant of concert behavior (from both the crowd and artists on stage). I'm not a fan of stage diving whatsoever, but if you're gonna do it, AT LEAST give a huge warning to the crowd in advance. My mom took me to see Akon and Pitbull years ago, and Akon let the crowd know (at least a minute or two prior) that he was gonna surf, and he was able to be carried by the crowd safely with no injuries. It can't be that difficult, right? John Floreani's stage dive was completely irresponsible, and not even apologizing publicly is pretty scummy. (The band also only contributed $5k out of $100k, and left the fans to cover the rest...) The prior disregard for safety concerns online before the incident (with a "fuck you"), and disobedience of the venue's rules only makes this situation infinitely worse. I cut mosh pits some slack since at least moshers have etiquette about helping people up if they fall, but reckless behavior like this needs to completely stop. I don't want to hear about another Astroworld happening, and I feel like concert etiquette in general has gotten worse in recent years. I wish Bird a quick, easy, and full physical and financial recovery (having to pay $100k worth of medical bills for this is awful).

the issue is that people are confusing all shows that are heavy as if they are the same. Wacken open and Graspop bring in really have fans. There is no crowd killing there. That's not what a mosh pit is about. At metal shows it's push pits or circle pits. There is not hands or fits b3ing thrown.

It should be fun, not scary, and people shouldn't have to worry about serious injuries or losing their life. As a lifelong concert lover who loves heavier genres like hard rock, heavy metal and punk i often see this at shows. I can enjoy jumping around and bouncing from left to right but i rarely pit unless the etiquette passes the vibe check (pick others up when they fall). It's essential to be very aware of the crowd and never drag people into it that don't want to be part if it because it ruins their experience. I rarely use the word 'hate' but i can say i despise crowdkillers since for me it's just plain assault. A wild and large moshpit is a place without law and justice which actually suits the roots of the music and would be nice if people are aware of their surroundings. People can take the chaos of the pit and utilize it to mask their ill-intended actions towards certain members of the crowd. I still love concerts and keep going to them, but my tolerance for crowdkillers is decreasing as i grow older and i'm barely 30.

What the fuck happened to no elbows/fists/knees in the pit? The amount of times I’ve gone in to pits and someone’s thrown an elbow my way is insane. I’m 5’2, I’m VERY easy to elbow in the head if you’re taller than me. I go in the pit to jump around and push people around, not get elbowed as that is NOT what I signed up for. Not to mention the groping that goes on in those crowded areas at shows. I’ve helped up and given first aid to so many people in the crowd that get messed up in the pit, hell even concussed. I love moshing, but we need to normalize not using our boney ass appendages to shove people. Crowd surfing and stage diving is insane to me. I got scooped up to crowd surf WHEN I DIDN’T WANT TO before, and the security at the barricade almost didn’t catch me in time because of how many people were coming over. In the case of Architects. They are a metalcore band; in any core show, the pit will be crowd killing, that's just an integral part of the culture whether you, I or anyone likes it or not. You just have to know what you're going into in a gig beforehand and decide whether you should go into the pit or not. Because the pit isn't always going to be just a mosh pit. Mate, trust me I get the sentiment I got my nose broken in the pit (I was pelted by a backwards fist) when I was seeing Spiritbox/Loathe/Brand Of Sacrifice and although I say 'just showed how great the gig was', it wasn't nice especially considering I didn't really know what I was getting into either lmao.

I’m about 5’2 went to see all time low not that long ago at the Philly show so I kindve have no choice but to be up front Alex never told the crowd to step back (opening act did though which I found odd) ended up standing next to tall people probably 6’0 who where able to luckily look out for me and others while people who should’ve have been crowd surfing where got kicked in the head a few times and almost fell down luckily someone held me up to where I didn’t fall down but needless to say people need to behave more respectful and responsibly while attending a concert were all their to forget the hell we currently live it should never add on to the hell or create a new form hell so what I’m saying is it’s also unfair to those who are 6’0 who now ended up feeling obligated to be a security guard basically when we’re all just their to enjoy a night out

Time to ban mosh pits and dives this is a concert not a WWF wrestling match
@evacody1249
@evacody1249 Месяц назад
you are confusing hardcore and punk pits with mosh pits at metal shows. At metal shows actually metal shows moshing which is just push pits are far safer then what happens at hardcore and punk shows.

This world sucks where the biggest assholes never fully get punished and held accountable. In this case, the frontman should 100% pay for the medical bills, it’s his fault and his fault only. What an a hole. To be semi petty, thank god their music fell off for me, sorry not sorry.

although i respect the opinion i think the culture would suffer from a ban. just put yourself in a better situation and you probably won’t get hurt it’s common sense

im sorry but as a metal fan i simply cannot agree with the stance that we shouldnt mosh or stage dive

I think that both parties are some what responsible for this terrible accident. John should have warned people and that girl probably shouldn’t be right in the middle of the crowd. If u go to concerts and don’t wanna do that stuff most people know to stay to the side. I would say it’s 80-20 his fault tho. Really sad.

@mr.sushi2221 at metal shows with actual metal bands, it's a different culture. People need to stop throwing metal in with the Punk and hardcore culture.

They all have strict policies against stage diving and they all overlook it. It’s a general disclaimer. It is for legal shit. I’m sorry but that is generally understood. Sorry the bloke was injured. But this is terrible luck.

I’m very pro dangerous behavior. Live a little. Watch your own and others backs, give a s&)t and people won’t get hurt. Rollercoasters hurt like 100 people a year and kill 5 should they be banned?
@beyondartv

Nonsensical argument. Roller coasters don't dive off fucking stages AT YOU. You CHOOSE to ride them. Grow up, have some empathy, or just continue being a miserable shit up2u

@@beyondartv I feel for the person but damn, it’s ok it. Mistakes happen. Thanks for being nice dude. You could have just said the roller coaster part and left out the part about me being possibly being miserable. I’m just saying it’s a show….. I hate the same crap you do….. but kids are going to be idiots and so will front men. So I guess I was being an ass, I don’t want that stuff either - but I encourage kids to be idiots?
