In todays video I am looking at why pricing photography is so hard. It is really something that at some stage we all struggle with, so hopefully this explanation as to why it is hard to price as well as giving you some pointers.
In my opinion, stock imagine can certainly be a worthwhile pursuit.
In this video I talk about my thoughts on the matter.
This is a stock agency that I couldn't remember the name for www.trunkarchive.com/C.aspx?V...

That was brilliant, thank you for the background and why it’s confusing and then explaining a way forward. I now feel equipped to.... hide in my studio because it’s still tricky 🤣

I feel like a lot of times when this subject comes up there’s a lot of people who swoop in to blow smoke up your a$$. “Know your worth” is great. But, there’s also what’s realistically going to get you the work that you seek and realistically what is a fair price to consumers. Honestly, I’d like to charge $100k for one job and call it a year. But, I know that I’m not going to make that deal. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to make this video. I feel more confident about my pricing for it.

Okay I love your content and you really have some amazing information but I think theres something wrong with your audio, is this just me?

How would you alter a price to licence an existing image, do you take away the day rate or not?

I think as you said it’s difficult because there is no industry standard depending where you are in the industry. Also having those good clients is paramount and like you have said in other videos smaller places like shooting a coffee shop wants you to turn up for an hour and want editing and art direction as where big commercial jobs are very different.

yeah, it is all very varied

Every time I bid on a job, I drive myself crazy second guessing the cost of every line item, worrying about what my competitors are charging.

Just a thought. But wouldn’t revealing your current day rate actually help other photographers to know what level they need to be at to charge the same, rather than keeping it secret and stick their finger up in the air? If it’s the ceiling I mean.

It might do, but I can't on RU-vid for a few reasons. One being clients discretion and the other being the agreement between myself and my agent. However, if I told you that I had charged £1000 or £30,000 for a days work, I don't think it would help you unless you understood the commercial work that I do and the exact shoot brief in which I quoted for and most importantly, to whom. I think it is better to research your own market to find out where that sits

Made me laugh. I was just getting frustrated over pricing and your video popped up. I made the mistake of throwing out a price to photograph coats for someone and know it was too low for the time it takes. I am trying to get into Product. Jewellery and watch photography, so have price per image rather than day rate. Not sure if that it the right way or not.

People still charge a usage fee? Taking notes: So raise your prices high to the top level of what advertisers are willing to pay, with high quality work and your door will be knocked on with those clients that are willing to pay the top dollar. Hmmm, let me try that!

Am I missing something? The video seems to finish very abruptly half way through a sentence about insurance !!

Ok as a baseline of what to charge. A family shoot lasting an hour of my time. I have done 3 in the past so I'm such a newbie but I'm confident in my abilities nevertheless at taking and editing. They will get say 30 photos that are edited, maybe 2-3 hours max editing time. 1. How much do I charge for the session + editing time 2. Do i charge additional to that fee for a USB of those 30 images 3. If so do I promote the USB more or is printing still the way to go I get the feeling if you give people the USB then you wont see them again..of course would the USB be social media resolution only and any high resolution retained for printing I have more questions than answers in my head..sorry!

Well price depending on how many projects you get it every day Some top products photographers charge 250£ per full package of 7 images but they get at least 5 products a day so I think they understand the marketing instead charge 1000£ a day Hope that make sense for you
@DynastyUK
@DynastyUK 3 года назад
£250? lol, That must be a very quick shoot, super quick edit and done. I bet the products don't look anywhere near as good. It would be all a preset lighting etc. The work the £1000 a day guys do is much more bespoke and probably take half a day just setting up the lighting correctly. haha.

@@DynastyUK good point Here is my question I understand 1000£ projects not easy to get everyday or a week two projects Who will pay £1000 per project? Are there any companies pay that much I am not talking few projects for this price a year ago continuing job for the price not sure ! ?
