I’m not famous but my mom does the same type of stuff. You can’t tell her anything because she doesn’t respect your privacy and blabs it all over.

I understand him. My mother exposes my life for everyone. Never learns, never evolves. Know nothing about boundaries. One day she will lose me, and it's not far.

It was COMPLETELY her fault. Its good to reconcile and forgive, but be real about what happened.

Even if he wasn't famous she needs to keep her mouth shut about certain things.

I love how honest he was about it. Many celebrities stop speaking to siblings/parents because of the same thing he said, selling stories, photos, info to the press. Accepting book deals, etc. Jennifer Aniston, Drew Barrymore, Oprah, Mariah to name a few. Wish Mariah would come on, her childhood and family is crazy off the rails to where she now calls her siblings, ex sister, ex brother and her mother by her name because of similar betrayals and all the childhood trauma .

In 2008 my dad and I stopped talking to each other I tried to talk to him three years ago but he had a massive stroke and has never been the same and just last Wednesday he passed away without me and him reconciling our differences and making peace I am totally distraught over this don't do what I did don't wait that long you might not get a second chance

I think it was his wife that helped him find balance the most ... she’s an amazing mother and very nice to her mom in law

I stop speaking with my mother a year ago and boy, let me tell you, it feels great!

and now he loves her so much he wears her hair.

I don't talk to my mom and never will for the same reason. The endless negative gossip and betrayed forgiveness goes beyond reputation, it's mortally wounding and toxic to the point you just have to say... I don't love my mother and that's okay.

It WAS definetly her fault. And her fault only. Being so egoistic to sell out her child, whom she suppose to protect. Such a betrayal! It’s hard enough being betrayed by someone, but to be betrayed by your own mother must have broken his heart.

His mom just showed his room and stuff my mom gave my stuff away to other people without even telling me. One time she gave away a thing that my dad had brought for me. I got so mad. I told her what she did wrong and all she had to say to me: "Dont every talk that way infront of other people." Nothing. No remorse or even a hint of guilt.

He's right it takes time.cause this happened between my sister and my own mom.with the not speaking much for 10 years

My mom did this to me all the time. So I just stopped telling her anything beyond very surface level.stuff. like i told her i was pregnant & right away everyone knew. I got married in private just for the insurance on my husbands plan & we had our church wedding 7 months later with the ceremony party. Our court house wedding was literally just for me to go on his plan . But we wanted it quiet bc it was not anyones buisness & people might have felt weird like " oh they are already married " so my mom protected her other sisters kids secrets or lied to me plenty about major stuff but my stuff blabbed. She told the one person I begged her not to my other aunt who was pycho & lived to just cause problems in the extended family. My mom was like " sorry I promised I wouldn't keep things from her anymore " I'm like mom that was not ur secret to tell & its nice to know u protected ur nieces & nephews but bc I'm ur daughter it's ok bc I'll always be there. I have had to cut her off for months not even to teach a lesson but just to set a boundary & I was pissed. So I feel for matthew here. Omg if I ever got famous my mom would humiliate me & write tell alls.

My Mother passed when I was 30 and she was the best and without fault except for marrying the wrong, man but who really knows a person when you’re young and in love? Any good i’ve done i owe to her.

Trouble is with Parents they have no loyalty to their kids they think they are property that thy own and can say and do what they like regarding their children.

So nice to hear that FORGIVENESS brought about a ‘new’ relationship with his Mom! Too many (especially!) children (grown up) turn their backs on their parents (or one of them) until its too late to ‘go back’ - simply because that parent has died! BITTERNESS, especially against a parent, can poison your life to the point that you don’t recognize yourself anymore!

His mother caught him doing intimate things more than once? Sounds to me either, someone wants to be caught or someone is WAY to nosey

Personality changes and poor judgement show up way before memory loss in dementia sufferers. Have mom go to neurologist before writing her off. That’s eight years you can’t get back and the guilt is not worth it

Sorry Mr McConaughey, your Mom opportunistically wanted some limelight. She certainly shows a degree of narcissism that seriously disrespected your privacy and broke trust completely. Not only that but she showed little to no insight into her rather serious transgression.
