they came to a rather suprising and sudden end, who know that "axe tot he face" was such a common disease in skyrim and that it was so fatal for the Thalmor
It makes it Hilarious though, how during the Oblivion Crisis, a Sap drinking pondscum could kill people with literally 100 years of training in straight combat. The hero of the oblivion crisis is "Nothing Special" aside from their uncanny luck.
I am actually tried this and it works, if you wore the thalmor cloth and you are any race (you can find some in the embassy during the quest) the soldiers will say "let me see your face" once they see that you are not a high elf they will attack. if you were a high elf, they will say "why aren't you at your post".
@@mythshark409 Tss, you are obviously confused my pointy ears friend, Auri-El is just a fanfic of the great god of Humans, Akatosh. Case in point, Alessia received help from the Dragon God, not you the Altmer clan of suckers known (before genocide) as Ayleids. But don't worry, it's no big deal, you can continue, no one cares. Especially not your god, it seems so.
@@DarthKader Elves are superior ? Then how comes history is dominated by humans, and not elves ? I mean, despite your fancy magic and technology, and the era of the elves lasted but a fraction of the era of men. You're so powerful you can't even comprehend how weak and pathetic you are.
I absolutely love how nobody is realizing that the Thalmor are really, really similar to the Nazis, even when taken from their perspective. Just compare the (actual unbiased) history of the Nazis to the Thalmor. They're incredibly alike.
They're not 'evil' for seeing through humanity's bullshit. And according to the lore of the series, the Empire's society was based on Altmer traditions and customs. So really, the Altmer have spent the last 700 years or so watching Men bastardize their culture while constantly boasting about how great they are.
Bestest Kitty You can't really compare them to Nazis since the Gods existence have measurable effects in TES. Nazis relied heavily on escape goats for political agendas.
And you think the Altmer aren't scapegoating humans? The elven religions are based around reaching divinity via the teachings of their favoured gods. For the Dunmer, this is the worship of Azura. For the Wood Elves they worship the forests and for the Altmer, they *used* to worship Auri-El, but lost the teachings of Auri-El somewhere in the past, which resulted in the current (as of Skyrim) Aldmeri Dominion. This is a result to them losing this means to reach divinity (which is mirrored directly from Nazism, wherein Nazi ideology stated that the germanic peoples were once gods, but due to *OTHER* races lost their godhood) and so they seek to literally destroy humanity in order to re-attain godhood by controlling the world, which is also a direct mirror to Nazi ideology. At this point, it has very little to do with the gods actually having real effect on the world as A: if they destroy the world they'll join with the gods and give the pantheon back a lot of their power, B: due to the Oblivion Crisis and Auri-El/Akatosh helping humanity for so damn long (since the Aelid rebellion leading to the first empire) they're probably feeling a bit salty about Akatosh on its own and C: they're also looking to get back at the creators of humanity, Shor/Ysmir/Lorkhan and Kyne/Kynareth/Kynarti for what they think, was stealing their divinity to make Nirn and humanity. All of these are direct parallels to Nazi ideology. I know it'll turn your stomach to read, but Mein Kampf is a fascinating look into the mind of a rational madman and his beliefs, and gives great insight into the ideology behind what he did.

@@Rockcroc2000Rm1wE3erWmNfkL Hey, best way to defeat an enemy and conquer their land is to infiltrate their ranks, by becoming Dragonborn, and then leave the country on its own, unable to receive outside help, by removing the Empire from Skyrim. SKYRIM BELONGS TO THE MER!
If you want to do a real alter, thalmor build let the war rage on so both side use up their men and resources but if you have to pick a side ho stormcloak because they have no real allies out of Skyrim and they can’t really run away either you could pretend to be an undercover agent so that justifies killing your own men

Cyanide Slushie Talos ascended to some higher plane of existence based on blessings and intervention in Morrowind, but that doesn't make him Aedra or Divine.
KevkyHD You can't find numerous other heroic Nords in Sovngarde either. I always thought that the reason the Thalmor outlawed Talos worship was to spur on the rebellion. The Thalmor occupied the Imperial City for two years before being driven out. Since neither the Thalmor or Imperials were able to beat each other in the Great war, they had to come up with a treaty for the time being. Ulfric was an Imperial soldier that had been captured during the Great War and had been interrogated by Elenwen. He "escaped" later returning home. The Thalmor would know a lot about him, including his feelings toward Talos. During that time the Forsworn had taken over Markarth and was trying to become a recognized kingdom in the eyes of the rest of the world. After the Great War had ended and the treaty signed, the Empire wanted the Reach back, creating a militia lead by Ulfric in order to push them out. After overthrowing Madanach, Ulfric demanded to allow Talos worship within Markarth before he ceded control of the city. The Empire said sure, but the Thalmor (knowing Ulfric's beliefs) insisted on rigid adherence to the treaty. This pissed Ulfric off and was a key moment in starting the rebellion. When you are in the Thalmor base and read Ulfric's dossier - he is listed as a "dormant asset" that they no longer have direct contact with. Implying that he was once and asset and that they did have direct contact with him. This also implies his escape from the Thalmor wasn't actually an escape in the first place, meaning they either let him escape or simply freed him. The Markarth incident is what made him too angry to talk to the Thalmor anymore, and spurring the rebellion. What I thought was that during the war the Thalmor realized that Ulfric could be a useful tool to them. His zealous belief in Talos could potentially be used against him. I imagine Elenwen would have insisted on the White-Gold Concordat being upheld in Markarth simply to anger Ulfric. But why do this? Why start a rebellion in Skyrim in the first place? One, the Thalmor are not strong enough to defeat the Empire outright, and need to break off pieces so that it's more conquerable. Two, should Skyrim leave the Empire they lose access to Skyrim's warriors, lumber, and silver. Three, this would also deplete some of the Empire's resources in a needless fight. Four, should Skyrim leave, that means the Empire must pull out of Skyrim too. They will also want the Thalmor to leave, but here's the thing. They won't. I figured that the Thalmor's plan was that after Skyrim - in a now weakened state after just fighting a war and no longer having the support of the Empire - will be easy pickings for the Thalmor to conquer. Also, Skyrim not being in the Empire anymore means that the White-Gold Concordat doesn't apply to them. If Skyrim's on it's own, there is no treaty protecting them from a full Thalmor assault. And the Thalmor can do it legally without violating the terms of the treaty. Then the Thalmor can take their resources for themselves. But another BIG point that nobody seems to think about is the fact that Skyrim is Cyrodil's northern border. The Imperial city is almost straight south from Helgen, over the mountains. This also means that the Empire actually couldn't defend Skyrim because that would mean violating the treaty and potentially starting another war they aren't prepared to fight. This literally puts the Empire in a position that they cannot defend their northern border from being taken over. This would put the Thalmor at a huge strategic advantage, because they will have free access to points very close to the heart of the Empire, while the Empire won't be anywhere near Summerset Isle. I always thought that the move to ban Talos worship was purely a strategic one - not a moral one.
Well reasoned, and this is why I back the Empire. The Empire is temporarily appeasing the Thalmor for strictly political/military reasons, not because they condone the Thalmor. Whereas the Rebellion are inadvertently playing into the hands of the Thalmor. Ulfric and his lot are too short sighted to realize that even if they win the rebellion against the Empire, they're doomed. They're not only a bunch of nationalist, racist bastards, they're dumb as well. Good riddance the Rebellion. Would be cool if TES VI comes with this exact history included. The rebellion wins, and then the Thalmor kick their arses.
'A stormcloack victory is also to be avoided' the same thalmor dossier about ulfric. If stormcloacks pull it off, they would be a considerable threat to the thalmor, thus the elves just want to prolong the war, not pick a side and win. Everything that fuels the war further comes to their advantage
Talos is also the warden of mankind in TeS. Reasons are both political, magical and of envy. In tes world aedras are dead, theyr blessings still "work" because people worship them. Talos blessings reduces shout countdown of 0% : it is useless. Probably because only in skyrim he is still prayed. And also the merkind are descendents of the aedras, but a man achieved Chim before one of them. They want to damnatio memoriae Tiber septim.
Dianna Bowen this has been the most helpfull answer, honestly.. but still why do you think that the thalmor also stated that a stormcloak victory should be avoided? do you think that if skyrim and empire are seperated that would double the forces against the thalmor? even of skyrim has withdrawn from the empire the hate for the thalmor is just as same, and all the more reason for the nords to conduct their own skirmishes against the thalmor since theres no treaty to stop them? now the thalmor would have the nords to deal with while semi-expecting plots from the empire itself? if skyrim becomes independant could the empire secretly and indirectly aid the nords in their skirmishes just to preoccupy the thalmor and launch their own from beneath the thalmors nose then finally regain allaince with skyrim with the abolishing the ban of the worship of talos now that the empire has regained higher ground? ☺
Dianna Bowen it’s a bit of both you see the thalmor don’t only want Elven rule on Tamriel they want to completely undo all of creation so they could go back to being et ada see fudgemuppets video on the thalmors secret plan for more information
@Cactus Juice Thousand times better than trying to annihilate Falmers during the ancient era. There aren't exactly any completely just race in Tamriel, but some are more just than other. Nords are just barbarians that kill based of emotions, not justice.
Don't want to get biased or anything but the Nords only killed the snow elves because they attacked them first. And as for the high elfs, they want to get revenge for being conquered by Tiber Septim. Both have reasons of course. Thalmors banned the worship of Talos for their emotions too.
Nah milk drinkers won't dare go near a knife, they probably threatened them with politics and other stupid word stuff... meanwhile I SLAUGHTERED 127 ELVES WITH A FUCKING FORK!
I like humans cause they don't got 500 years of time to fuck around lol. An elf can train for 500 years and could still be beaten by a man only 30 years old.. Guess that mortality really gets us up and moving
Well its a fictional world created by humans, so of course humans would beat up almost immortal elves to fuel the gamer's ego and also because it would be one hell of a boring game if elves could just stomp humans as if they were roaches. IRL I dont think we would be able to compete in any aspect with such a long lived species.
Ehh, I think we would have a chance, pure adaptability is humanity's strength, to change with the sudden currents and go with the flow. Longer-lived species are susceptible to 'taking the long view' to literally and getting stuck in the past or sacrificing everything for a future 300 years from now. Living in the present is very important for ever civilization, they may have more insight on how to do things, but if its influenced to much by teh old ways it could lead them to ruin.
What about the whole "we hate lorkhan because we are no longer divine" thing. Elves believe themselves to be the direct descendants of the aedra, and because lorkhan tricked them into creating mundas they came to despise him. Lorkhan himself is believed to have created men, so the elves hate men because they are the, "embodiment?", perhaps creation will suffice here, of lorkhan.
Reckoning I think the Ayleids worshipped Daedra, which is why they left Summerset in the first place. This explains why Akatosh favored their men slaves, they actually worshipped him.
Well kind of. Ages ago after Lorkhan was punished the remaining Et'Ada who participated in creation either became one of the Adra or became one of the Ehlnofey. The Ehlnofey fell to Nirn in two groups: a dense group who banded together and tried to preserve Et'Ada society on Nirn (the Old Ehlnofey) and a scattered group that found there way after wandering Nirn for ages to the Old Ehlnofey. Instead of being welcomed with open arms they where shunned. Due to unknown events a war started between the less numerous Old Ehlnofey and the more numerous Wandering Ehlnofey. This war sunk a great deal of land under the sea leaving us with the Nirn we have today (Tamriel, Akavir, Yokuda Pyandonea, Aldimeris, and Atmora). The Old Ehlnofey became the elves and the beast folk and the Wandering Ehlnofey became men and where scattered from Atmora to Yokuda to Tamriel. Assuming all tis is true than literally every sentient being in Nirn is a descendant of Padomey and Anu, Anui'el and Sithis, Auri'el (Akatosh) and Lorkhan.

As a player of Argonians, one of only two (playable) races native to Tamriel (the other being Khajit), I see this as a bunch of invaders striking against other invaders. It matters not who invaded first. (^_~)
Actually, the lore (as far as I've been able to find, at the very least) is very much unknown on Argonians in the Dawn Era; What we do know is that by the time the Aldmer arrived and began exploring Tamriel in the Merethic Era, the Argonians were not only already there, but also that they had a tribal (preliterate) culture, which would imply that they had reached sapience in Tamriel rather than having traveled there from another location. Likewise, while they have a strong connection with the Hist trees, there is nothing in the lore (that I have been able to find, anyway) that states the Hist created them. However, if you have a primary source that states otherwise, I'd very much appreciate it if you could share this source with me.
There is a Theory that Argonians are no different than the Hist themselves, and hist are just... "Elderly Argonians" Given that no one sees them breed or really how they age, they might even flip genders during there life like fish, always being stuck as female when very old and providing "milk" (Sap) for the newborns while they are tree-like.
I have a theory but it's based on ESO events...sort of. I know ESO isn't popular around here, but the AD main questline opened my eyes to a few things. SPOILERS: in the questline, you run into a group called the Veiled Heritance. The VH is an Altmer supremacy group (very Nazi-like) that is partially supported by the Maomer. Anyway, at one point in the questline, you find that the VH begin to infiltrate the Thalmor. 2E Thalmor are nothing like 4E Thalmor. Rather, 4E Thalmor are VERY MUCH like the VH. It is my theory that after Tiber Septim decimated Summerset and after Crystal-Like-Law fell in the events of Oblivion, a resurgent VH infiltrated the Thalmor and staged a coup of the AD. It makes perfect lore sense (since the VH were not completely wiped out in ESO) and explains the 4E Thalmor mentality. Anyway, it's my theory, nothing more.
Tiber Septim literally recreated Cyrodiil not just in his present, but backwards through time. That level of power should be enough to be convincing of his Godhood. As for remembering ancient wrongs, the Elves kept men as slaves, by the Nine!
FunkyFyreMunky talos was a liar a killer and a dictator who killed whoever had a chance to surpass his reign as high king, fuck talos... I’m a high elf and yes I support some objectives of the thalmor but I do believe we should all be neutral to each other instead of having cold hatred towards both man and mer, but fuck talos though he was an evil barbarian who had undeserved abilities in which he used for himself instead of his people
To be fair, good or evil has little to do with godhood. Most people define a god by their power, not their moral compass. There have been plenty of evil gods in the world of Tamriel. Like the FunkyFyreMunky said, his level of power should be enough to be convincing of his godhood. Deserving of worship? Probably not. Deserving of the title? Undoubtedly.
I know what you mean, I can't tell you how many times I've gotten bad mouthed from someone in Skyrim and then thought "Bitch, I killed The World Eater, your punk ass better watch your tone before I kill you and your family" I realize their speech is scripted, but I do not hesitate to follow through and slaughter them for any back-talk.
This inspires me to try out an RP character based on the fact that as a child he witnessed this attack by Tibus and grew to despise man. Everything you knew has been destroyed. you wander the land searching for a new start. For years you are a vagrant, for intensive purposes, you become a bandit. You one day come to the Skyrim boarders where the Imperials do not recognise you as a high elf because you simply do not look like it, how you are dressed, the dirt, the clothing. They think you are some spy for the Stormcloaks and so capture you along with the Stormcloaks. that's how you end up on the cart. you still harbour a deep hatred for man and anyone who worships Tibus. You lie through your teeth and fake being nice to get by but you wish you could roast hem where they stood. At times you do lose it and kill them. it's in one of these times where you lose it after hearing one too many praises of Tibus and talking down of your people that you discover you are Dragonborn, that you can shout as the dragons do. would be very interesting to see how you navigate the game like this. your character may change his views in the future from kindness from man but it would be gradual and you would deny it greatly. obvs this would be very much an RP character.
All of my charecters in my 1000+ hours in Skyrim either passionately hate Thalmor and attack on site or side with them. I wish there was a joinable Thalmor faction mod with its own quests, and torturing Nords like you can in the Dark Brotherhood to level up skills. Such as one hand flame and left hand Heal Other...
Elves kept men as slaves and slaughtered them for fun just because they considered men "the inferior childish short living animals" way before Tiber Septim decided to take revenge on them. You should support your own kind, shame on you.
I hope Bethesda can pull themselves together and give us a good in depth view on this in the next TES game. Would be awesome if you could actually side with them and see different perspectives and different factions in the Dominion.
Ironically, the ban on Talos worship has caused an increase in Talos worship, even among the Imperials who are supposed to be enforcing the ban. So, instead of weakening the despotic Emperor who became an Aedric god, Talos is becoming stronger than ever before. He might eventually become stronger than the chief Elven god, Auri-El, because of this. Oops.
I agree. The idea does not sense, but it is fairly common fantasy make-believe theology. It seems more the result of trying to make human beings more significant than they are in relation to the divine. I would not go to the Elder Scrolls for solid philosophical theology. However, increased worship could give more strength to the political cult of a God.
A conflict between the gods would be interesting indeed. The strife between Lorkhan and Auriel would be a reflection of the nature of the relationship between Anu and Padomay, wouldn't it? It would be cool to see that struggle play out in the course of a main line Elder Scrolls game. I think it is true that the divine strength coming from worship received is true for Elder Scrolls but is nonsense in its own right, which is fine.
I heard another, completely different theory, in which I suspect the Thalmor want to destroy the world by prohibiting the worship of Talos. This theory basically suggests that the elves view themselves as the mortal descendents of the Aedra, and indeed many races of Mer had more contact with Aedric beings than any race of Man. You see, the theory is that Talos isn't just up and worshipped, but that he basically became Lorkhan, the creator of Nirn, but most importantly, the bane of their existence. The elves blame Lorkhan for their limitations, believing he forever broke their connection to the spirit plane -- and the elves believe they can only return by destroying Nirn. If this is all true, then Talos not only represents Tiber Septim, who conquered the elves, but also Lorkhan, who denied them what they thought was their superior existence. It doesn't help that Lorkhan supposedly despised elves and was seen as a hero among men. As such, if they can prevent the worship of Talos, they might weaken his power and make the world easier to annihilate. It's also suggested that there are seven towers that hold Mundus out of Oblivion -- the two that come to mind being the White Gold Tower and the Throat of the World. At least two of these towers must be standing in order to keep Nirn from falling into Oblivion. So far, the White Gold Tower is one, and the Throat of the World is another. I believe the Heart of Lorkhan was another. If the elves can destroy most of these towers, they can destroy the world and send it into Oblivion. Consider that, during the Winterhold questline in Skyrim, we see a situation where Ancano - a Thalmor mage - starts drawing power from the Eye of Magnus, and the implications seem to be that what he was doing would have, in time, destroyed the world. It's quick to assume this was a reckless grab for power, but it seemed that he could only benefit from the eye's power while channeling it directly. So, what, was he going to stay in that chamber forever? No, it seems more likely he had a goal, a motive. It's possible that Ancano had a means to speed up the process that was taking his bretheren centuries to achieve, and that his goal was to destroy Nirn. This makes more sense when you consider one theory was that the Eye of Magnus contained Mundus itself. Of course, that's just one of many theories.
also to point out. every province of Tamriel has a tower and a stone(much like the sigil stones found in Oblivion). It's also my understanding that all towers must be destroyed in order to break the mortal realm. I can't remember them all of the top of my head but. province -------tower/stone Morrowing = red mountain/Heart of Lorkhan (destroyed) Cyrodiil = White gold tower/Amulet of Kings (destroyed) Skyrim = Throat of the world/? (if Alduin is the stone then destroyed) Valenwoord = Falinesti/? (giant tree) Summerset = Crytal Tower/? (maybe destroyed during Oblivion crisis) High Rock = Adamantine Tower/Zero Stone (?) Hammerfell = ?/? Elswyr ? BlackMarch = Hist? Also the Brass tower which I would assume is a dwemer replacement for red mountain since the Heart is it's power source.
@Dex4Sure well the last dragonborn can be any race. Not to mention being dragonborn isn't restricted to nords or humans. it's just the most famous ones are since the dragons mainly gifted those in skyrim with power. Plus outnumbering a race doesn't mean much if you consider the 500 companions defeated the whole race of snow elves. not to mention a tower full of high elves defeated so many daedra during the oblivion crisis that the bodies almost poured over the walls. Plus Tiber only managed to beat the dominion after obtaining a dwarven metal god despite outnumbering them even before that. It all comes down to individual skill.
@@johnlowrey2572 Martin Septim was a dragonborn. In fact, the entire Septim bloodline were all dragonborn. So there were probably more imperial dragonborn than nord dragonborn cannonically.
Right, because there has been an uncivilized ape conquering your lands you send someone out to get the Eye of Magnus, one of the tools Magnus used to create mundus itself, so they could not only erase man from the face of nirn, but also erase man from history. not just the books, I mean history itself, if the Psijic order would not have intervened, man would never have existed.
That's assuming that pathetic whelp could have gotten his hands on the eye of magnus and the staff of Magnus. Even if he did manage to get the Eye and Staff of Magnus without the help of the Dragonborn, the other master mages would have been there to stop him. Some would have lost their lives, but they could have stopped him.
On their hatred of Talos, it's not just Tiber Septim killed so many with Numidium, or that a man is being worshipped as a god (Reman was the 9th before the Warp in the West and is still worshipped as a minor god in some regions, and the Thalmor dont seem to care). It's that Talos is more or less Lorkhan reborn, and to the Altmer, Lorkan is not only basically Satan, but Talos is the main force keeping their binding mortal coil together
Tiber Septim was an important man in history. Just like all the great, he had his sins and virtuous accomplishments, both of which were far greater than those of any other person in his time. You can respect Tiber Septim as the great unifier of Tamriel while also despising what he did to Barenziah. Numidium was the best way to achieve his goals quickly.
This is another reason to become a vampire from a roleplaying perspective in Skyrim (at least if you aren't an Elf!), because you gain those centuries of time (especially since the dragonborn is already powerful and nobody is likely to kill them if they aren't an idiot and say start something in the middle of town and even then you'll dominate if you have the right equipment!)
just a friendly reminder that in The Elder Scrolls IV: Knights of the Nine DLC it was Talos' blessing that allowed us to travel to Umaril's spirit plane and truly defeat him... also, elves got wrecked by what was essentialy a child to them lol
The Aldmeri Dominion didn't lose to the Redguards for Southern Hammerfell. A small fraction of the heavily weakened Aldmeri Dominion lost to the Redguards for Southern Hammerfell after underestimating the Redguards, and they *still* managed to devastate the entire region in the fighting. What would happen if it was the entire Aldmeri Dominion at full strength falling upon Hammerfell without underestimating their foe like last time?
And they stood alone for five years! The stormcloaks have every right to be enraged about the dishonorable surrender. However, that does not justify their assistance in destruction of the great empire, in my opinion. My loyalties will always lie with talos, and his empire.
After learning this I'm thinking the Stormcloaks might actually be the better side to go with After all, if the Empire wins, Talos stays banned and becomes weakened, which is what the Thalmor ultimately want.
No, what the thalmor want is for the stormcloaks to win, weakening the empire, and the rest of man, to a point where they can take over. That's why I hate the stormcloaks. They're so blinded that they can't see this obvious plan the thalmor have.
According to uesp, "Altmer live two to three times as long as humans; with a 200-year-old Altmer being old and a 300-year-old Altmer being very, very old."
Except a dragonborn and an army of storm mages/archers. Drain their magicka and make them get close, then hit them all with a shout. The archers cut them down as they get close, the Dragonborn and his dragons cut them down throughout the battlefield. Humans can fuck and spit out babies much quicker, so we have the breeding advantage.
@@borrburison648 I think a literal demigod trumps a bunch of bitchy genocidal elves. Especially bringing their allies into it. Got a thalmor problem? Bend Will half of their army. Call in a dragon as an ally. Unleash a violent thunderstorm that strikes them all down, elf by elf. Master the thu'um and create your own shouts that can not only bend the will of mortal, dragon, and Earth alike, but can also bend the wills of time and space. Miraak shows that the thu'um has far more potential than we realize, using a seven-word shout "[dragon name, three words of power], zii los di du," that can steal a dragon's soul without lifting a finger. What of the Last Dragonborn? What kind of abominable shouts could they come up with to fight the Dominion? Perhaps an even more potent form of Durnehviir's soul tear that works on AoE? Perhaps a shout that calls the ghosts of not just one, but many ancient heroes, to battle alongside them? A shout that combines Storm Call, Frost Breath and Cyclone, creating a much larger tornado, hail, and lightning? The possibilities seem pretty endless for a dovahkiin who has truly mastered their abilities to Miraak's degree and beyond.
@@lsswappedcessna you realize that the dragonborn is mortal, and therefore can and will be killed by someone more skilled in battle, which, in case of the thalmor, there will be. Not to mention this scenario is very hypothetical since, the common theme in elder scrolls games, the character you play as has no bearing on the lore once his objective is complete
@@borrburison648 This entire situation is hypothetical, yes, that's the nature of any kind of theory based on a videogame. Epic Rap Battles of History is also unrealistic and yet people enjoy the "what if?" What if Jesus Christ himself freestyled against Obama? The idea of it is completely unhinged, but fun to think about. And no, the Thalmor aren't necessarily better in combat than the Dragonborn. He would have betters among the Thalmor's ranks, for sure, but how common would they be? I doubt very common, because whatever skill the Dragonborn has is undeniable. This all goes out the window if you defeat Alduin at level 6 like I somehow did on my first playthrough. ONLY did the main quest because stupid 12 year old me thought there was a time limit until Alduin absorbed the soul of every living thing or whatever. Sounds dumb now but it made sense then. Pretty sure the common Thalmor agent was actually a higher level and more skilled than that Dragonborn, lol. How I and most others play it now, doing every side quest they find and eventually hitting Level 100 or higher, though. I imagine the average Thalmor couldn't hold a candle to that. Especially since the thu'um is an entirely new (to them) school of magic that they have no access to or ability to understand beyond "it exists and makes dragons clap our cheeks like a cheap Dunmer whore."

It's far more complicated, Talos is reincarnation of Lorkhan who was slain by Akatosh - the Aedra most reveered by elves. This too is a simplification, but that's basically where you should look a lot more.
Honestly, do you care much for the life of a creature whose short existence is more of a nuisance than an actual benefit to the world you live in? Do you care about a mosquito's life? Or a rat? "They spread diseases, they're dirty and attack us!" Yeah, so do people. I completely understand the Thalmor pov. Doesn't mean I like them any better but they kind of have a point...
Tell you what, when I see a high elf rockin the numidium, then ascending to a higher plane such that their blessing gives the divine crusader the power to follow Umaril into oblivion to kill him for good, I will gladly acknowledge a 10th divine. Until then the high elf gestapo can hold that shit.
A high elf did rock the Numidium, then ascended to godhood such that their blessing allowed their followers to bend the eternal laws of Arkay himself and capture the immortal souls of lesser men and mer!
The main reason men have not lost is that because of their short lifes they are able to reproduce way faster than any of the elves, this is why some elves ate still recovering from the great war while men already have a new generation ready to fight
And the father is Sheogorath. No one knows the mother... either an Argonian concubine or a Sybil of Dibella. Either way the mother gave birth while held prisoner in Rataway Vaults for insanity. Sheogorath sex is a death sentence or worse, but those who survive to tell about it swears it is the best.
I used AI dungeon to make an ending for my main Altmer character who believed the world is screwed up because of the Empire and did a time travelling ritual where he went back in time and killed the prick Tiber Septim before he came to power(gory details included to show how much anger my character had on him) and then enjoyed a meal out of him as a werewolf and then got the timeline repaired where the world is now in its former glory without the Empire.
You glossed over how each race of man has a history of not just war, but genocide of a whole race of elves. The Nords drove the Falmer into the arms of the Dwemer, the Meads/Imperials overthrew the Aylids who may be totally extinct(looking at you Altmer and Bosimer, I bet you were hiding them), and the Redguards exterminated the Left-Handed elves. The only genocide we hear of by the elves are what the Dwemer did to themselves, and even then they probably aren't dead.
I struggled to understand the Thalmor in Skyrim, especially from the game alone as I found both sides of the conflict distasteful and never declared an allegiance to either so I'm sure missed out in a lot of info. However, the lore uncovered for the Aldmeri in ESO I found interesting. It's a few years out and I had no reason to remember, I just know they were (in comparison) easier to stomach and support at that time in their history, and they've fallen from grace in my eyes by time Skyrim takes place. This video makes them make much more sense to me, but even more now the morality is a grey mess and I dislike every optionable action even more, lol.
Don't believe their propaganda brothers and sisters! The elves enslaved, raped and murdered man long before Talos started his war, and they had been doing so up til then! The prioritize their delusions of grandeur over the lives of others! They despise the god that created this world! They are the enemy of the whole of Tamriel!
Finally! Someone explains why I don't like Talos and his Empire. Somehow, nobody reacts at Tiber Septim's behavior, but in real life it would scandalous. The Thalmor isn't just a bunch of villains. They feel resentment because Tiber Septim used the Numidium against the Altmer, because the Empire copycat their culture, and that guy who slaughtered their friends and family is now a god and a hero. Don't forget men already slaughtered several races of Elves. In Altmer's point of view, men are a threat. The Thalmor do awful things but it isn't just because they are the villains
99.9% of Skyrim players just take the game as it is, served on a platter, and the game assumes you'll play as a Talos-worshiping Stormcloak Nord, so the Thalmor are just one-dimensional mustache-twirling villains. Most of these players are also Pelinal and Ysgramor fanboys and think massacring innocent elves, down to the last child, is "cool".
I actually never thought about the lifespan of elves effecting their assimilation. With humans, and this is true in the real world, after one or two generations you can assimilate a culture and nationalism dies, but if one or two generations can last up to 2000 years it becomes virtually impossible to stop rebellion and unrest.
there is the once a year holiday called midyear mayhem from eso where the outfit for the event describes it as an event where pelinal whitestreak and his deeds are celebrated. so while the aeylids did deserve it, its yet another butcher celebrated every year and elves live a long time so they get reminded of this a Lot.
You should do a video on the perspective of Tiber Septim throughout his conquering days. I can already think of possible views he could have had, such as seeing the threats other provinces posed. He could have done what he did to unite Tamriel.
Tiber Septim might be considered the "last straw" as far as the mer having a reasonable hatred of man. Let's not forget, it was the creator of man, Lorkhan, who is responsible for the High Elves connection to the aurbis being severed. The introduction of man is essentially the reason for mer being mortal instead of divine.
Lorkhan is no less the creator of elves than of men, elves and men both arose from an essentially political split among the Ehlnofey, degenerated Et'Ada spirits who are the ancestors of the mortal races. Both were created through the same means, spirits who were drained of almost all their power in the creation of Mundus, but had just enough left not to die. Lorkhan is just viewed more positively among men in general because of said political split.
I know what the video's about but the choice of words and the thumbnail makes it look like that elf was just dumped by his boyfriend, and he's venting on tumblr about it.
I agree with the video but I think the elves outlawed talos worship so that the nords would rise up against the empire and fight the Aldmeri Dominions war for them.
Elves don't live to thousand+ years old unless powerful magic is at play. According to UESP, "Altmer live two to three times as long as humans; with a 200-year-old Altmer being old and a 300-year-old Altmer being very, very old." This comes from a Bethesda-employed lord-master interview during ESO's early development interviews. Edit: This would allow an elf to live from before Tiber Septim's rule until well into the third era, seeing 17 emperors of the Septim dynasty rule over them.
bolionce you have to understand that this is a rewriting of elvish lore from original lore. read the real benziah books (misspelled name) she was born in the second era and banged Tiber septim, she's also a protagonist in the original game arena. previously elves had the same life span as more traditional fantasy elves.
that's bullshit, we've seen several non wizard mer survive for far longer you could say that they had magical support or potions from others, but all that would mean is that any mer that is rich enough can live up to a thousand
Joseph Johnson I know about barenziah, but as far as I know she's a rather non-ordinary elf, we don't really have proof of any other elves living as long as her besides someone like Divayth fyr, who was a mage
I actually did reconsider my opinion of the high elves after watching this video! Seems like Tamriel could use more understanding and diplomacy overall. Thanks for the perspective!
Thanks for the easy to follow lore dump :) Skyrim is the only Elder Scrolls game I've played and it's very easy to just see the Thalmor (and by extension, the Altmer) as evil bastards. Definitely changed some of my views on them. This is going to affect how I RP from now on :)
I've been playing the Elder Scrolls games since the 90's (ever since Daggerfall), and the Altmer/High Elves have always been one my favorite races. In Daggerfall they had the really useful immunity to paralysis (D&D game related trait), and in the later games they were really powerful mages, albeit being weak to magic as well. I myself enjoy this "glass cannon" type of character build and especially in Morrowind I usually took the Apprentice sign to further strenghen these two opposite features of the race.
Blue Pencil Talos brought peace to Tamriel and achieved CHIM Christopher Columbus brought disease and achieved nothing as the Vikings got to North America before him
Blue Pencil Terrible analogy bud, a better one would be to imagine if most of the contemporary “Old World” worshipped Genghis Khan like men of the TESverse worship Talos since Tiber Septim and Genghis Khan are way more comparable.
Christopher Columbus was absolutely nothing like Talos. He was only in it for the money, he came to the Americas bringing disease and a greed for wealth.Talos was a genuine hero.
