Why Mortal Kombat Is More Complicated Than Game Of Thrones

I don't think that enough people appreciate how good the acting is in this series.

This series has slowly passed after hours as the best thing on this channel.

I can't believe I knew exactly what he was talking about the whole time because I've been playing Mortal Kombat ever since the series began.

The funny thing is I remember looking on the internet for a complete breakdown of the story of MK. I found one user that had started, but stopped after covering only the first 3 games or so with no explanation. This video pretty much did what that guy couldn't in about six minutes.

I'm oldschool, and let me tell you, MK was always ripe with a robust mythos and backstory, which filled our imaginations and conversations, since we weren't always allowed to be on our Segas or at the arcade.

Mortal Kombat has a crazy, awesome universe with some really interesting stories. Street Fighter does too, but the difference is that MKs is pretty easy to follow and actually is seen in the games... whereas SF's story takes a lot of extra work and time to follow.

It's really not as complicated as you think, people. Mortal Kombat is, at it's core, a series of interconnected revenge stories with intertwined plots and a whole lot of set-up.

Actually Scorpion regained his humanity along with Jax after Raiden mixed his magic and Quan Chi's necromancy and Sonya Blade stomped Quan Chi in the nuts to save johnny cage. I say that without a shred of irony and i fully endorse every single word in that sentence

So I have not played Mortal Kombat X, but did he just get mad because he was going to miss the story then proceed to explain the entire story of the game like he already knew it?

I have no idea why it was enjoyable to listen to someone go through all the Mortal Kombat lore when I have no played the game since the Sega Genesis version ... but it was.

I so feel the leet in this. This scenario is basically me every time I try to explain any of my video games to anyone in my family. granted, this happens to every gamer at one point.

To be fair, this has always been part of MK lore, only before, there was no concrete storymode, only piecing together information from the arcade endingsthat were right only half the time as well. Then, around Deadly Alliance, Konquest mode arrived, which featured a sort of story with a sort of new gameplay feature (the 3rd person exploration stuff) and basically just tied together core fights that told you the story of that game. And then, since about MKvsDC, there has been a concrete storymode, that's like this. Cutscenes and episodic fighting with characters that change after about four battles. Or five. This isn't a new feature at all, it's been around for the last three games. And Injustice. Not counting Konquest mode, which is another three or four games. And even back in the day, there was a story, only it was buried in the arcade endings with small hints as to which had and which had not had any impact on the story.

This is how I've always felt about the story of MK. The story in MK9 was good, but I couldn't repeat any of it back at you. It was fun in the moment.

I thought it was Quan Chi who disguised himself as Sub Zero then murdered Scorpion. That's why Scorpion, against Raiden's wishes, kills Sub Zero. Which then brings sub's brother Bi Han in to be the new Sub Zero

MK9's story mode was LITERALLY the same story of MK1, 2 and 3

In fairness, they didn't actually summon the Dragon King. He had been working behind the scenes as well, manipulating Shujinko to find the items in each realm that would allow for his revival. He only happened to show up when his army was attempting to be stolen.

I honestly feel like this was the best and most memorable one you guys have done.

I don't know if everywhere does things this way or what, but our little league tryouts for the area had a bunch of aptitude tests; running, catching, hitting, sliding, etc. and grouped the kids into teams based on how good they were. I didn't score well on tryout day so I ended up on the Blue Jays, which was filled with other kids who didn't score well. I couldn't hit for crap; pop fly or ground out, every time. It made me very sad that I wasn't very helpful to the team and as an outfielder, I'd get very bored standing around for maybe 20 seconds of action per inning. Needless to say, we lost. A lot. My sister watched baseball on TV all the time would watch for players who hit like I did and how they adjusted, and she used that to teach me new batting stances. My next Little League game I hit a double for the first time and got my first two RBIs. It was a rare win for us and the coach named me MVP of the game. Dad was very proud of me and I will always remember how happy I was that day.

Still my favourite series on Cracked.

You just clarified the MK storyline for me. I have been so confused about where MK X is when I thought that Armageddon was more or less the end; especially because of Shao Khan's secret sneak attack on the Blaze spawn at the end of the game.

When I was in little league I got assigned to a new team at the beginning of the season so I showed up for practice on a new field. 30 seconds after walking onto the grass I get hit in the eye by a fly ball. Black eye for two weeks..

I remember being this unusually engaged in Mortal Kombat's overall story arc. Used to go to the MK fansite Kombat Pavilion to read their research into the franchise and watch flash parodies. Good times.

I enjoy how much he knew about the storyline. Like he even understood how raiden essentially retconned all of the games.

To tie the two together, there's actually a brilliant article from a British sports organisation that talks about why video games are better than sports (i.e. looking at the things that attract us to games that either sports could borrow from or that too-intense dad coaches have taken away from them, driving kids to video games).

This is the most insane thing I've ever heard Michael explain and it's the ACTUAL storyline of the MK series!

I was hanging out with some friends when I saw a cut scene, so I said I didn't know that mortal kombat had a story (I'm not a gamer), so he started telling me about how all the characters are related and how no one stays dead. Now I know there's even more to it.

I remember when I was introduced to MK when I was 10-12 by a friend of mine. for the first 4-6 years afterward it was a wild goose chase/rubiks cube to figure out all this stuff and be able to follow it afterward, now its easy to understand and follow for me. XD
