Cardiovascular exercise is definitely beneficial for our overall health, but relying solely on it to lose weight is not the best strategy for fat loss.
Many people tend to overestimate the number of calories they burn during cardio, such as boot camp classes or treadmill workouts. The reality is that we don't actually burn as many calories as we think, and it's very easy to quickly consume those calories back in just a few minutes.
Over time, our bodies also become more efficient at cardio and burn fewer calories. Additionally, if we overdo cardio, it can impact our strength training performance and decrease our NEAT (non-exercise activity thermogenesis) because we tend to move less due to fatigue.
Therefore, while cardio can be a supplement to weight loss, the primary focus should be on proper nutrition.
