Telling what? Pray, tell. Or do you think that Americans are unaware of their own flag or do not know their own submarines? It's much worse than getting the Kasan-M's acoustic signature. That boat when straight through the US Navy's ASW training range, being tracked and followed the whole way. Now the US Navy has detailed information on how to track the boat from all significant bearings and ranges. They couldn't hide from a Virginia class as it was, now the US Navy will be able to detect it with confidence at greatly extended ranges. They have essentially made that whole class obsolete now.

can't they just swap the prop and replace the tiles and now the acoustic signature is different? If i had to send a sub through such places i'd pick one that was due for maintenance
@john_in_phoenix
@john_in_phoenix 2 месяца назад
@@robertsaget9697 Besides props, a big part of identifying a sub is machinery noise. Things like cooling pumps for nuclear reactors, air purification, etc. Replacing a prop isn't at all easy, they often take a year or more to machine, and multiple years to design and test. It certainly is a major drydock operation, and the current prop was designed to give the most power with the least noise.
@trplankowner3323
@trplankowner3323 2 месяца назад
@@robertsaget9697 It would be different, but that wouldn't solve their problem. Changing the anechoic tiles wouldn't change anything if they were in working condition. They don't make noise; they just absorb some of it. Every time a US sub encounters another sub, they record it and file it's acoustic signature. Even our own subs. This way they have a better idea what is out there. Remember subs are blind, so the world is like being a bat to them. They listen to everything and hear everything. However, the Russians sending on of their best subs through our training area let our experts listen to it from all angles and at all practical ranges. Basically, they just handed the US Navy the textbook on finding and tracking their most dangerous sub. Bubbleheads (US Navy submariners) are enjoying an early Christmas and April Fool's Day combined right now. For the next few years, when you see a bubblehead lift a glass to toast, it'll be to the health of whichever Russian idiot came up with this idea.

Mocking the Russians for a poorly thought out deployment and then using stock pictures of U.S missile submarines does not encourage a sense of professionalism.

Its standard practice for the Russians to send tugs with their fleet because their propulsion systems suck

Good point. The core advantage of ANY submarine ever is the enemy not being sure of just where it is. As 'flexing" goes, this move is up there with shooting oneself in the foot. ... And it wouldn't only just be NATO, but other allies of the US (and of NATO) that would undoubtedly get this data sooner or later - Japan, Australia, South Kore, and others. I'm sure that, wherever the Kazan might go next, it'll be sure to find friends. :)

the submarine lost it's stealth alright - a lot of the 'stealth' tiles have fallen off!

They had that profile years ago, our submarines patrol constantly for new submarines for these profiles everyday in the north Atlantic, this fact is nothing new.

you're kidding right? the US knows exactly where every Chinese and Russian submarine is at every moment and has since the day that each was launched.

This was great! Oh wait, you meant for Russia? Aaron over at Subbrief: (not about Kazan) ".... and she produces 140 decibels at 1 foot. How we know that is none of your damn business."

You got played, sound wave form was altered two ways. A reflector to alter sound which made it louder And a screw which is to be replaced. End of Line

OK---------. Hope everyone noticed the Sonic Tiles missing with the Deep pitted Rusting holes on the Huill of the Russian Sub. Making it possible to detect the Sub from over twice the Range it could have with its whole hull covered...
