Rich people who can afford to raise children don't want them. Poor people who can't afford to raise children want them

It's not selfish to not have a child. In fact, it is very much sefish to have a child just because YOU want to or under societal pressure and then not having enough time and resources to spend on him and give him a good life.

I am a single man decided not to marry but soon will adopt a baby girl(actually my mother will) and i will take care of everything like medicines, lifestyle, studies and all. I always wanted a baby girl daughter/ sister now my dream is coming true i am so much happy and excited 🎉

Every child deserves a parent but not every parent deserves a child. Having the self awareness or caution to just not have kids if you don't feel capable is honestly admirable...

We don't like to repeat the mistakes our previous generation did. It's okay to be unmarried and also okay to not have a child

Even keeping aside the financial aspect, having kids is a HUGE responsibility. Only people who are ready to be parents should have kids.

You could've added one more point that is: OUR EXPERIENCE : Growing up in an household where you see your parents continuously fighting or you can simply say in abusive environment tends to plant a seed of "How better it would've been if i was born in this-that household". This thought continues to grow a insecurity in ourselves that "What if we can't be good parents and end up like ours". This can be a reason not a major one but still I guess.

Not having kids because of any reason and accepting it frankly is the most noble act rather than becoming a bad parent or being selfish.

Our generation is so lucky to be having the wisdom that they can also NOT have a child. Previous generations just blindly followed the norm.

I am into kids free marriage for the last 13 yrs , but our reason is we want to take care of our parents and we want to dedicate our time to our parents but everyone around says" ek bachcha to hona hi chahiye" people around us are not happy with our decision but I have nothing to do with them this is our personal decision.

For me it's mainly financial.. Being middle class to lower middles class I've always felt broke and I've just earning and saving and slowly feeling I can buy the things I want, travel and basically enjoy a little freedom. I love kids but the thought of going back to that financial burden just scares me.. I've seen my parents struggling to pay my and my Sister's education fees or the sacrifices they've made to give me whatever I wanted. My father couldn't even buy new clothes for some festivals and it broke my heart man. I'll just earn as good as i can and I'll buy whatever they want and take care of them that's it. I don't want to have kids and again fall in the same loop. In today's world raising kids is a HUGGGE financial matter to consider. One can argue you can try to earn more. But there's no end to it. I'll lose myself trying to earn and struggle for my kids and it scares me that one day I might not like them for spending all my money on them. I Just want to live peacefully.

Being childless is better than being a terrible parent

honestly being in a toxic household where moms were forced to make babies within 9 month of marriage or where parents treat you like shit, it's better to not have kids.

As a 22 year old woman. I also decided not to get married or have children in future. It's not because I'm selfish it's because I've seen more people with failed marriages than successful ones and as a woman in India I'm not ready to accept the indian marriage system.

I may be the only one here who has a kid. And trust me, it's not the best decision we made. I had to make serious changes in my career, personal life and my overall behaviour. I am a totally different person now, coz I am responsible for another tiny human being. I didn't want this in my life. And many ppl hate me for saying this upfront.

Why is it selfish? You are being so very generous to the environment, the planet and the other humans who share this planet with you. How can you be selfish towards someone who doesn't exist?

Married for 9years and we are childfree. I love kids but not enough to have one of my own. I don’t even feel that my life is empty or joyless. My husband and i are both doctors and honestly we don’t even have the time. We also want to retire early and we are slowly moving towards that. We are both actively involved with animal welfare and would eventually like to get more involved with that. We also support education of our help’s kid. My parents were doctors as well and i had a very neglected childhood. I won’t say i had a bad one but my parents weren’t always there for me. They made those sacrifices for me and i am grateful for them but it affected my bonding with them at a psychological level. No child should be neglected like that.

Raising a child is no joke ...here i am at 3:15 am watching this video with head phones on and chasing my toddler as he is not sleepy ...being parents need loads of patience and sacrifices

There is no need to glorify parenthood. Having a child for yourself is also selfish. One wouldn't ask the child if she or she wanted to be born, would you? NB: I am a parent myself.

Please spread this msg as far as possible. No kids can be blessing for over populated India. Poor and Illiterate people must also be encouraged to have no children or fewer children.

I am 41 n married for 15 years but childfree n i have never regretted my decision. We travel, learn new things, take care of our health, do social work, animal welfare, care for environment . If not having a child is being selfish then having a child doesn’t make you selfless you just enlarge the circle of your selfishness . I think the thought of not wanting kids was always there, people just ignored their thoughts cause they felt it was a part of life and they just have to do it as a part of growing up. This just led to bad parenting and unhappy marriages just because it was not something the parent wanted. I'm not saying having kids is bad, I'm just saying it's a big life decision that not everyone wants to take and there is nothing selfish or wrong about it.

I chose K.V rather than private school for my son, though I could afford any high class school. He is getting quality education at minimal fee of Rs1850 for 3 months. It was the best decision of my life.

My husband (now) was married with another woman almost 10 years ago... Had 2 kids with her... Now they are divorced and fighting for their custody... Realizing how toxic my husband is, it's better that we don't have one... I don't want to have kids with him... And honestly feel sorry for his sons... Many parents raise their children to be toxic and narcissists.. making them raise another generation of toxic mentality...

I am 40, married for the last 11 years and decided a long time back not to have kids. I work as an animal activist, and have my own stray cat rehabilitation home. I enjoy spending all my money for the betterment of animals ( stray and farm) and environment. I enjoy more my giving to the earth in whatever way I can, rather than taking 🌱

Mohak, you completely missed one point. The physical pain which a woman goes through for birth. Post partum depression etc. I don't have the heart to see my wife like this. Plus risks, what if something happens to her. The thought is terrifying! 😢

My parents are poor we don't have a good lifestyle, good higher education and healthcare. My parents don't go to hospital even when they are ill because we don't have money. I respect decision for not having children. Only those should have children who have money and can raise children with better lifestyle.

In India it is very necessary to teach the male child to do the housework chores…we talk about gender equality only in corporates but not at home… from past few decades majority of the women started working and shifted to metropolitan cities where raising kids along with their job is a big task and dear husband behaves like 2nd child

I am gynaecologist , when i went for an interview for job after my marriage, I was asked - when I am planning pregnancy instead of my work experience and qualifications. I was kept on adhoc only (for 1.5years) and they never made me a permanent resident as they feared that I will take maternity leave 😢

Raising children is very expensive.

I am a millennial and I am still adjusting to the world. The world is definitely not a better to place to live. I do not trust people so I cannot further bring in a latter one and let the child go through this effed up world. I am scared living now, I don't want the next to live dreadfully.

I used to think the same thing that we will live a carefree life without kids.... we had decide it very early when my husband was my boyfriend..we got married nd after few years surprisingly i came to know about my pregnancy..it was unplanned that too with twins....we decided to keep the babies....currently my kids are 1.5 years old.... for kids we changed city to our nearby hometown so that they can have time with grandparents we both are working but i having kids is best decision....me nd my husband used to be so workholic busy in party nd carefree life...but now we want to spend our time with our kids nd family nd our parents we learn so many things.... our kids bring simile on their grandparents face.... i feel like our parents are sooooo lively when they are with grandkids....nd believe me its satisfaction over any monetary thing....

Me being an 18 year old girl always used to think that its literally our duty to produce children i never thought about it as a CHOICE even coming from an educated family. I think it's mostly the impact of our society on us and our way of thinking. I knew many families and specially women who wants to be a mother ( who don't get pregnant that easily or had complications). It's totally normal to not have any child and live life happily but personally when i was younger and introduced to pregnancy by the first time , the very first thought came to my mind is that i am not going to do this all as i was really scared of all those things (imagine being 9 months pregnant with a heavy bump and then giving birth is going to be the hardest part ever) i knew that I can't do it and kept this thought with me for years but now as i grew older my mind is changing and it's convincing itself that no having a family is so important. And somewhere i also want to build a sweet family.

I just wanted to give an example: One of my relative both husband and wife in their early 30's and have 2 year old daughter when they were searching for her school they told me how expensive education is in Nodia they were talking about schools charging about 8-10K per month. They were finding it expensive. But at the same time On Diwali they both purchased New Iphone 15 Pro coz it was in trend. I feel nowadys people want to spend more on Trends just to be accepted in the society even if they face a financial constraint for that.

I belong to a middle class family, lower middle class to be precise. Presently I'm doing a decent job in a government undertaking sector so I live a good life. It's not too good but it's obviously better than most indians. The two of us earn enough to go on holidays throughout the year, we can spend money on ourselves without worrying much. We surely know that once we have a baby it's only downhill from there. Once again we are in the lower middle class section. So no thanks, we don't need a baby.

Considering the population of India and the expenses as well described in the video, this isn't a bad thing by any means. People spend decades to finally live a stable life. Let them enjoy that stability for a few years at least

I have mad respect for people who don't want children. If you like children so much, go and offer your service to an orphanage for a few days. People should stop blaming childrens for only cause of global warming and climate change and thinking becoming child-free somehow solve the problem. I mean they are still will be a big population who wouldn't be dying anytime soon and will be more likely to consume more than most people. There is another big issue which should be addressed but no one wants to address that is rise of consumerism because everybody enjoys that. In recent years consumerism and over consumption is growing rapidly in India people are eating more meat than ever which is already takes a lot of resources to produce plus there is brand fan boys like the apple fan boys in most modern cities who buys every new iPhone every year but doesn't think about the effects of it in the environment

Cost of living in Bangalore is so high, I can move to Europe and educate my future child for free in their public schools. Also, my child won't have to deal with the stupid pressure that Indian education system puts on kids.

Very well explained. It's really a personal choice. We have such diverse mindsets in India that have different perspectives from place to place, cities, towns, villages, traditions. You have only talked about the urban population but what about the small town and villages which does not like this at all. We are not going to see population decline until we have reached a development threshold and we are still not there yet.

Beautiful yet extremely crucial topic, I personally feel adoption is the best option coz there are many homeless lives that deserves decent living. But my husband is not very accepting to the idea of adoption, he wants to have our own kids. But this video gave me great perspectives by giving me right information of all aspects of today. I'm 25 years old, I live in Mumbai with my parents. Last month I talked to my parents about not marrying. They were shocked, and are still trying to persuade me to marry at the age of 30. But I want to earn money, lots of money, I want my parents and my younger brother to travel and see the world, I really don't any life partner. I want money, good friends, my parents, my brother and memories to cherish for a lifetime. This is my road map for the next 15 years. When I'm 40, then I'll decide my life's course for the next 20 years.

Being a father of a 2 year old. I can understand the reasons for not having kids. 1) Privacy- There is no me/we time, we can't remember when we last time went out together. Before kids, we use to travel a lot and eat out restaurants. If you have toddlers you can imagine the headacne of travelling and eating out. I remember we went to restaurant and everyone were looking at us why because my little one was through tantrums. 2) It can be exhausting- I work from home so me and my wife share responsibilities. But there comes a time where we both want silence. 3) Romance- Making out or spending romantic time reduces a lot. Why because sometimes both couples are tired. This is just getting started, other things, like expenses, time management and all. But do i regret having a kid absolutely not because even though I might find crazy we love having kids and sometimes we spend lot of cute moments. So, yeah if you really want to have kids only they can cope with it. Haivng kids is not a joke but also it is a blessing.

Taking more responsibilities is glorified in india and leisure time, mental health preference is seen as laziness.. I m glad ppl r taking wise decision nd prioritizing themselves first before taking such huge decisions

Those talking about the demographic dividend are missing one key part of the story: the rise of AI and the threat it represents to the requirement for human labour. Yes, it is a concern if there are fewer working age people forming a tax base that can support the growing elderly population. However, in a world with AI/automation, what is the point of being of working age if you cannot find work? If so many jobs are going to be replaced by AI/automation, the available piece of the pie for working adults will keep shrinking. In such a scenario, BOTH the old and the young will be relying on government support. This feels like a disaster.

I thought only I am thinking about no kids cause of financial and emotional unavailability. Not be able to give time for anything in life working in mnc like rat. Trying to save and invest money. And from younger age took financial responsibility of family and now tired of responsibility, so not getting married as well. Just want to live love and be relax.
