It would be good ROI if he can get around that half mill. As for a replica, it might be fun for him to thrash around for a bit and it would be a load off from insurance and maintenance.
I member seeing expensive cars in person as well, couldn't care less since I have no desire to be able to afford one. But at the same time, why doesn't my brain care to care for more other than what it decided to care about ?
@@mikaxmsthere are a lot of people that have identical fake versions of their real Rolexes for wearing in sketchier places or situations where it’s likely the watch will get damaged
The Fiero is a great car to use as a base for a kit car. The Ferrari 308 whole body replacement kits are hugely popular along with the Countach kits. I put a little twist on the kit car thing though: I put a Pontiac Fiero GT whole body kit on my Ferrari 308, no one can tell it's a kit car.
I would love to find an unaltered Pontiac Fiero Mera. Tons of people took off the Mera and pontiac badging to add Ferrari ones. Nearly impossible to find the factory one unaltered.
Heyyy so good so see you back Hoovie! I’ve grown used to 2 videos per week but you make us wait now. Absence does make the heart grow fonder! We appreciate you!
24:07 (He never finished his thought) The three motors you can swap into a Fiero are: 1) the 1991-95 Cadillac 4.9L (that's the one that was in the first (unfinished) Countach replica shown in the video), 2) the 6-cyl 3800 Supercharged (from 1995-2008 GM FWD cars), 3) the 5.3L LS4 V8 (from the '05-'09 GM FWD cars).
Someone did an amazing job on the exterior fit and finish. They even made the V-6 sound legit. But they completely dropped the ball on the interior! A good interior remodel would make that look the part.
@@audiophile6475 replicas tend to take either legit money or legit time. they're best as hobby things. that it is a replica just gives it a goal to go towards rather than making a custom car. though still, the benefit is that it can be anything you want it to be on mechanicals etc. as a hobby thing the time investment becomes more of a positive, as a learning, doing and timewasting hobby. approaching it as a thing to save money is a fools errand, more so if you pay someone a lot of money to do things.
@@davidelliott5843 there's a a company making a kit / selling that, the cars called Listerbell STR (tho you can use a toyota engine too but I dunno why you would do that, ok I kinda know why but the alfa v6 is an option). they don't list the price though, its all just by enquiry only edit: europe has lots of transverse bussos from 156's, 166's, gta's etc. not hard to find as such
Good to see you Hoovie, it's been a while. Hope things are getting better for you. Don't sell the lambo, you will regret it when it's worth 2 million in 5 years time!
As a fiero owner, yes they are much easier on the anxiety. Also, just put the supercharged 3.8L in it and you'll have more power than it could possibly need. That kit's exterior does look really good though.
Would be a sad day it you had to sell the Countach especially as we know how much you love it! Some of the work that goes into these replicas is impressive!😂 Keep up the great work Tyler! Much love from the U.K 🇬🇧❤
I think because he says he doesnt drive it alot, it makes sense to sell it. Especially since Matt Farrah preaches the driving them alot is actually what keeps them running well and saves on the maintenance. So it sounds like it would be better off cashing in now. The only sad thing is the price point its at, probably will still not be driven alot by whoever was willing to pay.
@@IllegallyAcquiredKIA idk, I think they won't go too much hire because they are an icon of the 80s, they are shit to drive and live with, and compared to other cars of the era, more common
My first amateur rally build was a Fiero when I was 16. I still have that car, but it's a few generations of rebuilds later with a manual gearbox Toyota 2GR V6 I planned on using for a Celica FWD build. All new suspension and everything to give a solid mix of grip and comfort for touring. Body mostly original but with a slight different height (I liked it when it was actually raised a bit for rally, so it's basically a wannabe Lancia Stratos in terms of height and tire style). With some common complaints fixed, they're not bad little cars for what they offer for the price. I have two Opel GTs (One all stock, one with a turbo LE5 1.4l I4) that blow both the Fieros I own away in a lot of categories, but all of them are fun to drive.
In highschool I drove one & really liked it; what put me off buying one was I'd see them pretty often in the junkyard burnt to a crisp. I ended up going with a 325i instead.
@@vincedibona4687Wizard actually WAS talking about one hanging lower. With such a strong overreaction I would've thought you actually knew what you were talking about.
Delorean guys hate Video Bob cause Bob only has negative things to say about them, plus he ruins them to make Time Machine Replicas. I'm pretty neutral on all of it.
@@nimaside They made about 9000 Deloreans and maybe 2% of them have been "modified". The purists need to accept that no one would know what a Delorean is if it wasn't for Back to the Future. That's what they hate.
.....when you come to realize the mathematics of 600k vs 20k (+10k more to make it better) 'fake cars' seem like a better proposition. 600k / 30k = 20, that's 20 proper fake cars, a week has 7 days! 🙃
I remember watching the video of you buying it in New Year’s Eve 2019. Man what a special time of life was before something came and changed history forever in the first month of a new decade.
My former landlord had a number of exotic cars that he had restored, and one of them was a Bizzarini (1960s tube chassis with aluminum body panels and a Chevrolet 327). He was hit by a pickup truck when driving the Bizzarini, and had to do some serious work to get it back to perfect. He later built a Cobra kit car, which came out very nice because of his attention to detail, and this was the car he actually drove and enjoyed.
Hoovie - you don't want a fake anything. What happens is you spend all your time watching people's excitement turn to disappointment as you answer the "is it real" question with a no. It totally ruins the ownership experience.
There are some cars that are very difficult to find real versions of. I think as long as the replica is well made then it's fine, just don't try to sell it as something it isn't. Like, most people aren't going to be able to find a Shelby Cobra or a Ford RS200 even with money. Hell, I'd gladly put an RSi bodykit on my Beetle if I could find one. Would I tell people it's a real RSi? No, I'd be honest, but I'd love the look regardless.
I remember having a poster of a red countach on my dorm room wall. That and an SR-71. lol! In fact, I even built a red countach model when I was a kid. They were THE car back then.
Great video with Video Bob. Glad you met up in Vegas. I wouldn't shed a tear if you sold the Countach. You still have lots of gems in the hangar and could spend the proceeds to finance some future dreams.
I saw a Fiero replica on CarGurus for an insane price the other day, but it was listed entirely as a Countach. Zero mention of it being a Fiero, aside from the picture of its engine, but a non-car person wouldn't know its about 1/3rd the size, but if you know even a little you can obviously tell just looking at the fenders etc, but it looked just like all the other kit cars.
I'll admit, I've never seen a real Countach up close and in person. However, I can spot anything built on a Pontiac Fiero. Having owned a Fiero and worked on it I know those cars extremely well. There is always some give away with kit cars and replicas that use Fiero donors.
Hey Hoovie, years ago back when the Countach was being sold new, Harry Levinson of Harry Levinson's men's clothing in Indianapolis had one. I remember him pulling up and parking it along the windows of the Friday's on the north side of Indy. He got out then walked around the car and opened the door for his wife/girlfriend. She was in a dress and heals, she turned sideways in her seat and put her feet out the door. He then grabbed her hands then pulled her up and out very smoothly, I was impressed. His car looked like a twin to yours, white with a red interior.
As someone who daily drives an '86 Fiero, it's great to see you enjoying one! If you ever decide to add one to the fleet, check out my local club, the Kansas City Fiero Owner's Group! We've got a myriad of cool swapped cars with all sorts of engines, and we've even got a couple of kit cars in the group (including a beautiful 3800SC-swapped Mera)!
Hey Hoovie I love your videos and content... the laughs and knowledge are well worth subscribing, I am sorry to hear the double edge sword has come to swing on the ownership I love that you finally achieved your dream car, but sadly it is time to send it on to the next custodian. If you cant enjoy it because your afraid you'll destroy the value then its no longer any fun to own and I am a man who believes in Jay Leno's mantra, cars are meant to be driven not sit in the garage.
The top air intake vents don't look proportionate, but one of the better exteriors I've seen. I saw one at a car show last summer and it took a bit to tell if it was a kit car.
Sir, you are so busy with the channel that I understand why you skip leg day at the gym. Keep up the great work, and my condolences on your car collection shrinkage.
Bob's accurate impression of Sam Hard (+100 points) Creative interpretations of real exotic cars ("Trans-terrosa" +100 points... because Trans-Am, "Count-ash" +90 points... it's still got a little ways to go.)
Just about more than any other classic, I can see the Countach as a relative bargain. Even though there are quite a few available, compared to say a Miura, the Countach is just so iconic. Over the top styling, poster's on the wall, a great story, the v12, it's the rich baby boomers & genX dream car. $500k today? Can't see why these won't double in five years or less.
Would love to ask a bunch of Gen Z’ers if the love the Countach or if it is just meh. Since I grew up drooling over it I can’t give an unbiased opinion.
@@jphilb It doesn't take many. I just looked up the production number and it's just under 2000 units total, I was thinking much more because they were made for many years. The Muira is only about a third of these numbers, and seem to start around $1.5MM
Personally I don't see much realistic value to it apart from being sentimental and exclusive. Other supercars are more comfortable, handle better, look better and have better parts availability. Owning a car like this purely for investment purposes is such a dull use of money.
The countach must be pretty meaningless to people who weren't around in the 80s. It only means anything to people because it was so insane back int''day
My absolute favorite car of all time. I’ve never seen one up close. I’ve met you before, many years ago, before you started youtube. Next time I am in town, I’d love to see this machine. Think we can make it happen Mr. Hoover?
Well done wizard keep it going bud Tyler sell whatever you have to it’s fine. Just get money for food and everything. Stay hydrated as well bud check in with Doug as well please
The problem with garage queens. You are to scared to drive them as it would depreciate their value, and what if someone rearends you? One a sidenote, i think a backup camera in the countach would be a lovely thing to have.
@@freepieanchipsgarage Do you own a half a million dollar car? like what the hell are you talking about? Hoovie has talked multiple times how scary it is to drive it because he's afraid to damage it in someway.
@@Mastermind12358 irrelevant. He’s joking for the video, and he even drove it. I suspect it’s practically becoming uninsurable. If you own a car collection, you understand the rigours of maintaining it and you don’t use infantile phrases such as “garage queen.”
For a kit car Lamborghini it deserves a much better engine than that and then it would be worth it. A nice turbo or pro charged V-8 or even a Flat plane crank V-8 or even a viper V-10. For 20 thousand it would be worth it to give it a much better power plant. I’ve seen one that is a full frame and body kit that has nothing to do with a donor car and you would think the kit car was nicer than the production version. They were the same size as well and looked almost identical. The interior has a much more updated and functional look to it as well.

Enjoyed the torn bar code sticker on the back of the rear view on the red replica. It says everything the guys who build and keep these things. Also liked the puffs of oil smoke out of the exhaust. It's always fitting to use junkyard engines in the replica cars without going through them. When they get too bad, just get another one from your local auto recycler. Don't even bother to hose off the grime. That said I feel that 20k is too much money for them.

The moral of the story. Never get married. If you do, you had better have a prenuptial agreement. His ex was a waitress when he met her. Now, Hoovie is forced to sell everything to give her half. It's absolutely BS
Impressive. Almost as impressive as Bob's humor and charisma. However, there is NOTHING like the sound of that Italian V12 pulling up next to you. I'll never forget the rumble of that first time. I love the sounds of engines and sitting at a stop light in my youth, hearing that roar as it came to a stop right next to me, thinking "What is that? That is NOT a V10. That HAS to be a V12!" And sure enough, at green oaks at an under pass in Arlington, TX of all places, a Lamborghini Diablo pulled up next to me. I became a man that day.
Years ago my coworker had a Ferrari F40 Fiero kit car. From 20 feet going 20 MPH you'd think it was the real thing - it was surprisingly nice. it only had the 2.8 FI V-6 engine like this car though. He sold it and got an actual Ferrari 360. That car stops traffic where ever he parks. I think he made a better choice with the real Ferrari. Except for parts maybe...
23:56 I bet that thing would rip with a modern engine and a properly tuned turbo set up. Even with the 3.1L upgrade. I saw a conversion to a 3.8 and it was a rocket.
oh my god Video Bop is hilarious ,what a quick wit and hes really funny ,im so desperate to follow hes channel now,hes an enigma in the way he looks scary as hell but when he speaks hes a riot ,best guest youve had Tyler
Can someone explain why the wheels never fit the wheel wells of these replicas? I've never seen a replica without a 8" gap between the wheel, fender and offset?
Hoovie: If, as you say, you don’t drive it much, how can you say it’s reliable? Is that a relative concept? Apart from that, if it cost you around 100K and now it’s worth 500K then perhaps it’s time to let go given any ongoing deterioration. Depends upon how much you need 400K right now. Good luck mate.
Isn’t love grand?.. sorry Hoovie.. we all saw your demise upon taking delivery of your mail order bride….always remember : living well is the best revenge…
No it isn’t 😂 Those are HORRIBLE cars. Literal giant pieces of crap. They’re built like garbage to begin with and don’t hold up to use at all. Not to mention, the interiors are worse than a same period Toyota 😂
I don't think I realized until very recently... that It was actually a privilege growing up living next door to a guy who owned not only a yellow, but also a white Countach. And not only was my bedroom window right next to where they were parked, but every single morning I would wake up to the loudest noise of him cold starting either his or several other people's Countach's that he worked on as a full time mechanic....out of his garage. That shit drove me crazy hearing those things at 6am on a Saturday morning. I will admit, those days when I missed the bus in the morning and ended up nervously walking behind his car with what seemed like...6 foot wide rear tires at the time. To make my way up to his front door and ask if he could give me a ride to school.... were absolutely legendary. I was so young and so used to seeing them everyday that I didn't really comprehend how awesome and not-so-normal it was to see 4 of these beautiful beasts all parked out front, much less getting to ride shotgun in a Countach going 90mph in our neighborhood at 6 years old....before he had to tame the wild horses down as we quickly got to that 20mph school zone.😂 Then I'll bet he probably regretted saying yes to those few rides to school after maneuvering that bright yellow Countach through the carpool line. Good times...
Bob’s a very funny guy.Dump any car you’re afraid to drive.Great info,as a six plus footer myself I’ll scratch another one from the list. Thanks for the fun video
Ditch the "real" Lambo. Cash out while the getting is still good. I don't see why you would even need the kit car. Get an 88 Fiero GT with T tops and a stick and enjoy it. If you must have a Lamborghini looking car a kit car makes way more sense anyway. They made some fake Countach cars on a space frame base as well if you must get all fancy and stuff. I'd you went Fiero I'd also recommend the Northstar for the massive power, if not the oil leaks :)
Oh, you should search out a Fiero. My father had one back when they were new. I loved driving that car. He had to sell it because it was too low for him to get out of because of back issues he had. I should have bought it back then.
