Sirius Black respects Harry because he sees James in him. Severus Snape treats Harry poorly because he sees James in him. It’s a dichotomy seen in Order of the Phoenix.

I feel like the movie needed something like this, because the books make it very clear that Sirius sees Harry as a “new James”, whereas the movies were a bit lacking in that. That one line really captures this.

@@drn6741 i haven't watched the movies in awhile (planning on bingeing them again soon) but i am in the middle of rereading the books, and in ootp i remember that sirius and molly were often at odds over harry's safety/knowledge of what was going on, with molly arguing that sirius was treating harry like james (who had been older/more experienced/etc) while she wanted to protect him as her surrogate son. the "nice one, james" line in the movie really drives that point home and i agree with you.

U have to think about it from a filmmakers perspective. That was a fairly pointless plot point that had no business making the final cut of the movie. It made Harry feel more isolated, but didn’t really contribute that much to the story

Uh, okay. Except the scene showing Harry haunted by Voldemort at King's Cross is *DISTURBINGLY* isolating! The sharp cut from the closeup on Voldemort in a black suit to Harry waking up on the train, noticing Hermione sitting down, and thinking, *"Yeah, she won't understand this..."* is FAR better than the book scene with Ginny, Neville, and Luna.
@brianfoss571
@brianfoss571 Год назад
Also, Ron's prefect status is implied when he diffuses Harry's argument with Seamus in the common room and says, *"Has anyone else got a problem with Harry?"* There are plenty of ways filmmakers can acknowledge the spirit of a book without slapping exact scenes down verbatim from the novel. Order of the Phoenix, as a book, is a 1000-page meandering slog compared to the rest of the series. Michael Goldenberg's work slimming it into a 138-min movie is nothing short of masterful.

i watched these all several times as a kid, but when going back to this film and noticing harry attempt to use the cruciatus curse on bellatrix is something i never noticed and was done so well in the film. it really shows how dark harry is becoming and how angry he is. in reality he doesnt have the strength to use it, but the fact that he attempts is insane
@niharikadatta6442
@niharikadatta6442 2 года назад
And the fact that he casts the Imperius and Cruciatus curse successfully in the Deathly Hallows book is even more insane. I mean, I genuinely expected him to cast the Killing Curse and come full circle but I think that in the final showdown, when Voldy dies because the Killing Curse rebounded makes it come full circle because Harry's spell deflects it to go the other way round (though it's not supposed to do that).

Also, to the main comment, I absolutely think that's insane that he could perform both spells. I can't specifically remember the cruciatus curse, but in Order of the Phoenix that fact that he tried the curse to cause so much pain to the person who killed his godfather is crazy. Yet still, I understand why he did it. He goes through 3 stages of greuf within a minute and when he reaches Anger, he unleashes his biult up rage he's been carrying all year, executed in one of the most extreme ways possible.

@@niharikadatta6442 What's insane is that when he uses the Cruciatus curse in Order of the Phoenix Bellatrix points out that it didn't do her much because the caster needs to truly want to cause pain on another person. I've looked for that scene unmuted, or quotes from other actors, but I've never been able to find anything that coroborated that post. On the contrary, in a commentary David Yates stated that the 2 reasons why Harry's scream was muted was: 1)to pay homage to Al Pacino's character's famous cry in "The Godfather" Part 3, which is one of Mr Yate's favorites. 2) he wanted the viewers to really feel the gravity of what has just happened. He wanted viewers to take a moment to stop and realize that Sirius is gone, and what it means for Harry. Anyway, both times he talked about this scene, he didn't say anything about Daniel's scream making other actors cry (?) being the reason for the mute button... you'd think it would be something that he would mention. I know this story is often hated as a book…even by the author…but this story is an excellent character study into ptsd. When you consider that Harry’s first true experience with death that he can remember is the death of Cedric…it changes the entire context of this story. This story is about Harry truly accepting that he is the chosen one and because of that, his loved ones are in danger. The scene where he screams at Dumbledore is easily my favorite in the entire story of showing his evolution as a character…the scene shows him blaming everyone around him for what happened as he accepts that he has no control…only to partially realize, even if he refuses to admit it…that everything is Dumbledore’s fault, that Dumbledore was farming him from the very beginning for a fate he didn’t ask for

it is actually my fav book in the series you know? fred, george and peeves. the escape from hogwarts. the order getting back together. harry's loneliness and his yearning for a family but then the comfort he feels when working with members of the order until sirius' death. his time with sirius too. this book was my absolute fav. it's sad its so underappreciated. :(

It's my second favourite after POA eventhough Sirius dies. It makes me much more emotionally involved then any of the other books maybe because I have dealed with some of the struggles my self around the same age as Harry. The whole department of mysteries is so facinating to me. I like Luna and Nevills development. Also the backstroy with Snape and James because we see both of them in a different light. I also like the way the story is build up and told especially the first couple of chapters. -The movie is among my favourites too.

You are SO RIGHT about everything, in this and your other video essays! I'm a much older HP fan--not that that matters---but you are bringing back to life the magic we felt as first the books, and then the movies, were first released! There is only one thing about the OOP book that isn't (and almost certainly could not be) converted to film; yet to me it's the most powerful and heartbreaking line in the entire story: " If death is nothing, Dumbledore, kill the boy..." "Let the pain stop," thought Harry. "Let him kill us... End it, Dumbledore... Death is nothing compared to this.. . . . And I'll see Sirius again." It is Harry's horror and grief at Sirius's death that drives Voldemort out of his mind forever, not seeing his friends. That's a Hollywood touch. Harry's dying thought, in the midst of his sorrow, is that he has the chance to meet Sirius in the afterlife..it is what saves him.

I honestly always got the feeling that they essentially forgot about Bonnie Wright (Ginny) after her she stopped being a comedic, endearing component that was crushing on the idea of Harry. We never see 10% of the silly, adorable things she did, like making the Valentine's Day card that sang shrilly to Harry, or all of the times she would totally clam up in Harry's presence. And then they completely disregard the arc she had gone through when Harry wasn't really paying attention to her, namely 3rd and 4th book where Ginny is (in the books) always going off to hang out with her own friends, dating whomever she wants and dumping them when they don't meet her standards. Anyway, Bonnie Wright obviously had the potential to be Ginny, but it seemed she was being directed to act a hundred different ways. And in the end, it felt like they directed her to basically be a replacement for Harry's mom. Which is even more stupid than having the whole almost-kiss scene with Harry and Hermione in Deathly Hallows Part 1. Great video btw! You're great at breaking everything down and using the facts to back up any opinuons you state.

Filip Gustavsson I think half blood prince did fine with Ginny for the most part I just think that specifically they should have had less “awkward teenage romance” between her and Harry in the film. Though the scene where she says shut it, the moment when she goes after Harry as the death eaters show up (yes I know it wasn’t in the book) and the moments where she’s consoling him about the book and after Albus’a death (albeit silently) are great moments. I think if they had added their conversations from the book and stayed true to their actual first kiss that it would have been perfect.
@fg5music
@fg5music 4 года назад
@@joshz2491 That's exactly the problem though. They didn't add the conversations, basically all she has to do is "awkward teenage romance". Ginny is not awkward (in the books). She's funny and sassy and smart. Movie ginny has zero personality (apart from maybe one or two blink of the eye moments). As for the death eater scene the problem isn't that it wasn't in the book, the problem is that the scene doesn't matter. They show up randomly, they burn the place down, they leave and it's never mentioned ever again.

Filip Gustavsson Oh believe me I agree with you here. Compared to the book of course Ginny was handled badly I’m just saying that within the context of the movies it was fine. For whatever reason the movies made various choices that weren’t in the books with characters and plot some good, like a lot of movie 5) some bad like (most of movie 6) and some that fall right in the middle. Every movie has things to love and things to hate, in the end I have a very vivid imagination so I just picture the books being acted out whenever I reread them😊

@@ailsa7471 Look at it this way, you could skip all of the Goblet of fire (the movie tho) except for the graveyard scene, and there would be no holes in the narrative. The whole film is watered down tournaments, which should be the setting of the story, not the story itself. The whole Barty Crouch Jr. storyline which impacts the pointe of the film gets merely glanced at. The goblet of fire is an abomination of a film.

Order Of The Phoenix is a masterclass in directing a character driven fantasy film. Much the same as Hitchcock’s Psycho, and Kubrick’s The Shining. Yates really mastered this film, and did so much for Daniel Radcliffe and his acting!

The relationships Harry forms with Neville and Luna are very underrated in this movie. When Harry says that he and Neville will make their parents proud makes you remember that Neville lost his parents as well, and it makes his character in the eighth film even better. Luna helps Harry through his isolation this film because she can see the thestrals and hear the voices in the veil. She helps him stay sane when he feels like everything around him is crumbling.

I feel like most HP movies rush to the end after the climax. They should have focused more on Harry’s grief towards Sirius, and kept the conversation between him and Dumbledore at the end. That whole exchange is simply brilliant, and my top 1 favorite moment in the series. Also, the addition of the two-side mirror (and Harry breaking it) would save it from being a plot-hole in Deathly Hollows, as well as providing an excellent opportunity for Daniel to shine as a dramatic actor.

I would argue an hour more. None of the Harry Potter films come close to REALLY showing us the FULL BOOK. I vote that the Harry Potter series be released as HBO seasons. 1 season for every book. We all know the story, how many of us want to see the Deathday Party of Nicolas? I do.

So true the ending is so extremely shortened and like the end of Order of the phoenix literally explains the whole Harry Potter series like why snape knew Voldemort would attack lilly ( because he heard the prophecy) and why Voldemort even wanted to kill Harry in the first place. I swear this pisses me off so bad I don't understand why everyone likes this movie. Its story was by faar the worst edited in the whole series. Also the Magical mirror he gets from Sirius is missing making the mirror extremely random in DH.

I hated that I Half-Blood Prince her character was watered down so much that she had no substance. She wasn’t the bold and fiery girl we knew from the books and what little we saw of her in the other movies. She was nothing but a love interest and we didn’t get a feel at for how important she was as friend and love interest for Harry. The interactions between the two were so damn awkward in HBP as well and there was practically zero dialogue between either. The kiss between them was sooo much better than in the books.

It really does hit u in the feels, and Dan's anguished portrayal of the death of the only father figure Harry's had was brilliant! U felt the pain that Harry felt! It made the following scene - chasing and cursing Bella, watching Dumbledore fight Voldemort, and then getting possessed - even better and more powerful! A teary and sad scene followed by a teary and hopeful scene as u watch Harry throw him off! It truly is the highlight of the film!

Your attention to detail just makes me love and appreciate this beloved series even more than I already do! Great video, it really captures the greatness of this film and the character development. I agree with you on every point but the thing that sticks out to me the most is how relatable the characters feel in this movie. Yes, they are witches and wizards but their inner demons and insecurities do not differ so much from our own. The scene with Harry confiding in Sirius is particularly touching as it reminds me that sometimes our loved ones see us more clearly than we see ourselves, especially in moments of self doubt. The fight scene between Dumbledore and Voldemort in this film really kept me enthralled when I first saw it in theaters, and to be quite honest I am still in awe at whole scene whenever I rewatch. The part where Dumbledore reminds Harry it's how they are different, not alike, really gives me chills. I always feel I am right there alongside the other DA members...feeling helpless at his struggle to come back to himself. I also love how it is another important figure to Harry that reassures him of the goodness within after Sirius is gone. It really reminds us, along with Harry, how important and cherished he is to the other characters in the series. Beautiful movie, and really outstanding video. Thank you for creating content for us HP lovers to enjoy! 💙

Can we all appreciate how Sirius looks in this movie? He was in prison for 13 years, but he grew up rich, he was an aristocrat. He for sure dressed well as a child and teen in Hogwarts, he talked a bit pose-y but that's what we really love about him. He was a marauder, but in this movie he so serious-not Sirius :). His hair is styld and when Harry gets to Grimauld place, we can she the difference between Remus and Sirius. Remus grew up poor and his life has always been difficult. Sirius grew up rich and even though he has faced many difficulties too, this is one thing that truly stayed with him. He hated his family but the importance of looks stuck with him. There are fan stories with him wearing jeans and metal jackets, and I can accept that too. In every story we write, he always has a pose when speaking-not a prejudice- and he later becomes more like his family -not in ideas, but in appearance. Like, we all use Ben Barnes' photos from Dorian Gray cause that's how we imagine he dressed as a 20 year old. We use Timothee Chalamet's photos from little women because he is Regulus and Regulus is a black. Hope you understand me.
