When Tyrion said Lysa was always "touched", it was a genteel way of saying she has a history of mental instability. My ideas of what made her such a way were: 1) She was always less beautiful than Catelyn, and receive less attention as a younger daughter because she was expected to be born male. Another daughter was a disappointment to a noble House hoping for male heir. 2) Her love for Petyr was never requited until Petyr (pretended to) love her in order to manipulate her to poison her own husband. 3) Unlike Catelyn who was first engaged to Brandon then married to the young, gentlemanly, and handsome Ned Stark; Catelyn was married off to old Jon Arryn who was old enough to be Ned's father. It was an obvious political marriage where they never seemed to grow fond of one another. Her loneliness and bitterness were later taken advantage of by Littlefinger. 3) She killed her own husband, probably passed off her son as his (though he is possibly Littlefinger's bastard); and the guilt tormented her. 4) In spite of all her sacrifices, Littlefinger never loved her, she subconsciously knew this, and that really pushed her over the edge (figuratively and literally). I feel sad for Lysa. Crazy b^tch as she was, she still deserved better.
I agree, her story is a sad mix of naivete and tragedy. Don't forget that she was forced to drink moon tea as a very young teenager to abort Littlefimger's (first) bastard and have several miscarriages before Robin was born.
The thumbnail with Lysa and Robin is so touching, you could never tell how dysfunctional the two are by looking at it. They just look like a loving mother and son.
Dude, if anyone gives you crap, ignore it. The work and easy to understand flow you put into your work is astounding, and hands down my favorite GoT info channel. You make me excited to keep re-reading and re-watching more than I already do, so I thank you as a fellow fan for your passion in these projects.
Tully’s were never kings. Arryns ruled over the Vale as kings for thousands of years until Aegon the Conqueror changed that. The Tully’s had multiple chances to become kings after the fall of the Mudd’s but never did.
0:39 EXCUSE ME? THE ARRYNS ARE COOLER THAN THE TULLYS? Well, Actually I Guess The Mountains Of The Vale Are Probably Colder Than The Riverlands. Nevermind.
Here is some sort of family tree for the Tully's: Ser Edmure Tully | Lord Axel Tully | Line of Axel | Lord Elston Tully | Line of Elston | Lord Tommen Tully |__________________ | | Line of Tommen Samwell Rivers | Lord Edmyn Tully | Line of Edmyn | Lord Grover Tully | Line of Grover | Lord Elmo Tully | Lord Kermit Tully | Line of Kermit | Lord Medgar Tully | Line of Medgar |_______________________________ | | Lord Hoster Tully Brynden Tully |____________________________________________________ | | | Lady Catelyn Tully/Stark Lady Lysa Tully/Arryn Lord Edmure Tully I did not include unnamed sons and daughters. There also is Celia Tully. She is somewhere in the Line of Medgar. You also might have noticed lord Grover, Elmo and Kermit. That is not a joke on my part, they really existed. Arryn: King Artys I Arryn | Line of Artys I | King Roland I Arryn | Line of Roland I |__________________________ | | King Roland II Arryn King Robin I Arryn __________________________| | Line of Robin I | King Osric V Arryn | King Hugh I Arryn | Line of Hugh I | King Hugo I Arryn | Line of Hugo I | King Alester II Arryn | Line of Alester II | King Mathos II Arryn | King Osgood I Arryn | King Oswin I Arryn | King Oswell I Arryn | Line of Oswell I | Queen LiRegent Sharra I Arryn |_____________________________ | | King/Lord Ronnel Arryn Lord Jonos Arryn After lord Ronnel and lord Jonos, came lord Hubert. I don't know where to place him in the tree, so I'll just go further from him. Lord Hubert Arryn | Line of Hubert | Lord Rodrik Arryn |_______________________ | | Line of Rodrik Queen Aemma Arryn | Lady Jeyne Arryn | Line of Jeyne | Lord Donnel Arryn | Line of Donnel |_________________________ | | Lord Jasper Arryn Lady Alys Arryn | Lord Jon Arryn | Lord Robin/Robert Arryn There's also Alyssa, but I didn't know where to put her.
The book also hints somewhat that Lysa's poisoning of John Arryn wasn't entirely out of love for Littlefinger as Hoster Tully on his deathbed kept apologizing to "Tansy" whom Catelyn later realizes is a nickname for Lysa and that Jon Arryn repeatedly forced himself on Lysa shorty after a quickie marriage in an attempt to have an heir when he was already pretty old and fearful of infertility.
Are men just infertile in this universe at an old age? This never made any sense to me because in the real world most men are fertile from when they hit puberty up until they die.
@@OoOMonkeyCoFreakOoO Jon Arryn was married once before Lysa and was always implied to have infertility from a young age. There's a reason that Harry the Heir exists in the Vail.
@@OoOMonkeyCoFreakOoO as you age, you are more likely to become infertile. Also in a pre-viagra world, you would lose the ability to get erections regularly at a variety of ages. Even today, after 90 you're quite unlikely to get erections easily.
I have watched a lot of GoT lore videos from RU-vidrs and yours are by far some of the most streamline and easily understandable. I subbed after watching the Targaryen video so I wouldn't sell yourself too short but I must admit it is refreshing to see a youtuber take criticism and work off it! Bravo Ser
I think the winds of winter will have howland reed finally making an appearance in a long time since the first book, he probably has Ned's bones and Robb's will to crown jon as king of winters?
I have no doubt that Howland will be in the next book. I'm more worried about him not appearing on the show. I thought for sure Meera and her father would have at least one scene in season 7 but...
I personally love what you do on your channel. Some people are just too stubborn and want things their way without appreciating the time it takes to make these videos! thank you
Also, another important thing to note are the Waynwoods themselves are related to the Starks. Lord Rickard Stark's aunt Lady Jocelyn Stark married Lord Benedict Royce and one if their daughters married into House Waynwood.
i like your original targaryen family tree to be honest. Its a very long tree so you can expect people to get confused just by that factor. Good job on this one.
How about far Northern clans and Houses (like Skagosi). Infact, I think Coldhands (in the books), is from House Stane, a thousand years ago. Septon Jorquen wrote a book (the Black Centaur). It mentioned a member of this House becoming First Ranger and died shortly afterwards. Besides Coldhands speaks prayers in the Old Tongue, rides a giant elk, and appears as an ancient Ranger of the Nights Watch. Not to mention Leaf said he died long ago. Yeah not Uncle Benjen, sorry. A Child of the Forest saying long ago (Is a really long time). I'm sure Benjen is still alive in the books. He should have a chapter in Winds of Winter, on Skagos.
I understand what you mean about not a lot of info on some families, but why not try a "lesser houses of the Reach", "lesser houses of the Westerlands" etc.? Just a suggestion. Keep up the great work! edit: extra context
Dude. Don’t worry. At least you put in the effort and we appreciate it. You’re videos are still very entertaining. Everyone makes mistakes. Don’t strive for perfection. Strive for results
One thing i don't get how Lysa is the killer and lansters were like oh cool jon dead we are not surprised I think you get what i try to ask so please answer
You don't need to wait to redo your Targaryen family tree. As the show has shown that Jon is a Targaryen, then that is true for the books as well. Remember that the reason the writers were allowed to turn the series into a show was that the correctly guessed who Jon's mother was.
I’m with ya on the swords story not really adding anything to the real story lines .Just he went here his brother went there for some time then he died and the exiled brother comes back to rule .magear was a beast in battle dark sister bla bla bla. It’s all been said before and it felt like I was reading world of ice and fire chapter I’m guessing that prob what it was !
You forgot Edmund Tully. Ancestor to Hoster and his brother Brynden the Blackfish. He rebelled against Harran the Black and was made Lord Paramountof the Trident by Aegon the Conqueror
a surprise that the Blackfish never went to The Wall. he might yet. I suppose as long as his family had a need for him... and BOY do they ever, now....
Ther isnt enough information about the Arryn familly? Have you ever considered diving a bit further in the familys House like going back into the Houses early begginings? Ther is tones of information we dont have infront of us & care more about the Houses Past & not so much what we can see & hear for ourselves by paying attention to the shows dialogue.
You have to wonder why so many Lord's in Westeros accept Harrenhal, knowing its curse and history. If I was a Lord of Westero's and a King granted me the title Lord of Harrenhal and the accompanying lands & wealth, I'd accept gratefully but I'd tear the castle down and start again, building something much more manageable than the cursed ruin.
